so my appointment came through for the 22nd December. Mm. I don't have babies (hence the lap) and we are spending Xmas with my mum. Will it make Christmas miserable? I've searched for a few old threads but would be nice to hear from people who have had this done in terms of how long you feel crap for and if ill fancy my Christmas dinner!

I am almost phobically scared of hospitals but even more scared of finding out I have blocked tubes. I'm a great wife at the moment.

Hi ya,

Can I ask how long you were waiting on the appointmet? I saw my consultant at the end of September & still haven't been given a date for mine yet?
I suppose it means that you'll have your feet up over xmas Smile

Good luck

Hi whereismywine so sorry to hear you need to have a lap and dye to check tubes. I had one last year after 2 1/2 years of TTC.

I was in and out in a day. GA no problem at all. Two tiny scars one in my belly button the other on my knicker line. The scars were a little uncomfy, but I could wash etc the next day. Just a bit uncomfy standing up from lying down. The thing that hurt the most was the gas as birdie suggests, if it's all not released your shoulders and neck do hurt, and I was rather windy for a few days. I had a week off work and used the time catching up on sleep and having some TLC from anyone who would offer it. I wore crap old pants with no elastic so as not to irritate the dressing/stitches, big maternity pads to catch all the gloopy blue dye, took about 24 hours for it all to come out, and then big tracky bums for the next few days so as not to irritate the scar as it was healing.

All the best for the 22nd, will keep my fingers crossed you get the all clear.

The timing isn't bad tbh - you can have a few days doing very little over Xmas.

I had a laproscopy 16 years ago. Mine was on a Thursday. I was in and out on the same day. The GA left me feeling groggy and I was stooped over walking for the first few days. On the Sunday I took a coach ride from London to Birmingham, back to University. Carrying my weekend bag was a bit tricky but I was fine. I needed loose clothes for a few days because of the gas in my abdomen.

I took the Monday off and went back to uni as planned on Tuesday. On Monday I developed a rash. I went to the GP and she thought it was an allergic reaction to one of the drugs I had been given, probably the GA. In uni on Tuesday I came very close to passing out in a class so went home and took the rest of the week off, which is what I probably should have done in the first place. I'm not sure how much of the fainting incident was due to the op and how much was due to the allergic reaction, but my advice would be to take it easy for at least a week. It's only a short op, but a GA is a GA and puts on a strain on your system, so take it easy afterwards. Spend Xmas laying on the sofa and doing a lot of a dozing!

Hi

I had a lap and dye done a few years ago and as far as I can remember it wasn't too bad. You will be a bit sore and tender for a few days and expect pain in your neck and shoulders after the op which is totally not where I thought I'd have pain :) - it's something to do with the gas they use to expand your abdomin and the residue settles in your neck / shoulder muscles. But a nice massage from loved one will sort this out.

You won't be doing cartwheels over Christmas but you should be able to enjoy a nice relaxing day with plenty of good food!

Best of luck with it and I hope you get good news. Mine came back clear and I cried with relief when I got the result - actually that was the worst bit, waiting on the consultant to tell me the outcome!

Hope it all goes well. x

Hi - a lap and dye won't change the fact you are a great wife Grin. And you should still enjoy your Christmas dinner.

My lap and dye took a few days to get over. I was up and about quickly afterwards and able to look after myself (shower etc.). I think I had the op late in the evening and went home the next morning.

The immediate problem was that GA wakes me very tired and sleepy - so it took a couple of days to feel less knocked out. Also, they pump your tummy full of gas so that they can have a good look round - and the gas has to find it's own way out. The trapped wind was really quite painful for a couple of days, especially in my shoulder tips. Mint tea was great for making me feel more comfy and getting the wind out. And I did feel a bit as if someone had been rummaging round my insides (which they had). The actual little holes and stitches weren't too bad at all - but needed to be kept clean and dressed.

What took longer to get over was the news - which wasn't great. On top of the surgery, it did leave me feeling weepy and blue.

I'm sure yours will go very smoothly and you will be able to enjoy Christmas resting and being pampered - the ideal excuse not to do the washing up IMO.
