Have been reading up about Vitamin B6. Apparently you can take up to 100mg quite safely. I'm on 50mg but was wondering whether I should up the dosage, as my LP was so ridiculously short. The website I was on also said that Clomid is often prescribed for short luteal phases as it helps to regulate them. Now than I did not know.

maybebaby - yes Lady Luck may not be typing as we do but I feel she's hovering nearby. Ah well, then I will tell DP that we should both go for it, but I don't think I'll manage anything this side of Christmas. Now I'm wondering if your DH is a geography teacher though with his cords? Not sure why because my DH would love some nice smart casual cords but can't find anywhere that sells them in a 36, or pref 38 leg, and he's not a teacher of any sort

biscuits Loving the care and attention showered on DP's precious jewels. It has crossed my mind, but he's a boxers-only man, has showers and doesn't cycle huge distances (or wear sticky lycra - heaven forbid says he who is strictly a cords and tweed kinda fella), so fx he's not boiling his bits.

My GP referred me for my day 3 bloods (suspected PCOS but came back fine) and said that they would only carry out further investigations after a SA for DH, I think it is just NHS policy, plus it saves you from the more invasive tests if they aren't necessary. Also, your DP would just have to, ahem, 'do' his sample at home and drop it into the surgery (at my GP anyway). Hope that helps a little.

But as dear Biscuits has said, this thread has indeed proved lucky for some, and will eventually be lucky for us all

Oh, and just one more thought Bean but you mentioned your dh cycles a lot. One of the things they say about is wearing boxers instead of briefs and not letting things get too hot down there. I don't know if that would mean that cycling in cycle shorts sort of thing could have an impact?

Have to say that I've tried all sorts of reverse psychology to "trick" the plumbing into a pg, so won't count on joining this thread as a guarantee but like the idea all the same.

So glad you got there. You're right, it will happen.

Let's see about SA for DP; you never know he might come round. I'll chat with the doc about me for now and see what tests I can wrangle from dear old NHS and go from there. I feel like the NHS owes me anyway: I had an indie midwife for DS and so barely saw a doc for the entire pg/birth. Plus all that tax/NI I've thrown at them all these years of not having a family.

I should say though, from what I've seen if you go to the docs, the standard tests are day 2 (or 3?) and day 21 bloods for you and a SA for him. You'd probably need that before you could get referred to a fertility clinic. Even if the referral is just for further investigations (we knew we'd never get treatment on the NHS because of already having ds).

Thanks so much for your frank and full help: v much appreciated indeed (and congrats on getting there after a long wait for pg2). It sounds like a team effort for improvements which led to eventual pg2. (Bless our boys - if they knew we were online doing virtual semen analysis what would they think?!)

The good news is that DP agreed to take some vits about a month or two ago (he's v lovely but not always enjoying the frantic broody moi). The sad news is I'll never get him off his generous 1-2 every night - having said that he doesn't get properly sloshed (well hardly ever), doesn't smoke, has a good diet and cycles to work most days, though I do wonder whether I should be putting cotton wool round his saddle... : ) He's also a very laid back sort and in general doesn't strike me as a likely candidate for probs. I really can't see him going to the docs to give a sample so am keeping myself in check for now.

You have given me hope that it is worth plodding on - sometimes I just want to give up, throw in the towel and take up handgliding (well, maybe not) but you know what I mean.

I think you should show your DP that site, far. Might concentrate his mind on the job in hand . I think someone I know vaguely may have had an arrangement re: sperm. Could well have been off the internet. Baby's absolutely gorgeous.

I know I've missed people, sorry, but I'm exhausted. DD woke me at 3am with screams of 'MUMMY'. Of course I ran in, terrified she was being attacked by ravening zombies only to find... she was bored and wanted to play. Seriously, I have never been less amused by my toddler holding up her toy dog in my face and saying woof. And then I couldn't get back to sleep again as I was so adrenalised.

Re: mooncups. Yes, you do have to empty them out into the toilet and either wash or wipe them. However, it's surprisingly non-yucky. I've been using it for a couple of days now and find it much more comfortable than tampons, which I had a major problem with after DD remodelled the place on her way out. Hi Bean - lovely to meet you. I suspect you're the first person who I'll have discussed my DH's sperm with in the first 'meeting'

I'm nipping in from the grads thread, but have read your earlier post. I would say re your dh's sperm it can't hurt to take a conception vitamin for him. We have ds who is 3 now. We got pg with him the third month of trying. Prior to that we'd got pg the second mth of trying but sadly had a m/c. So we weren't really anticipating any delays this time round. We started ttc no 2 when ds was 15 mths and it took us 19 mths!

Now, after a year we were referred to the fertility clinic, with the 'standard' tests. My blood tests came back ok but dh's SA showed reduced motility (whereas I assume there were no issue before? We'll never know as he wasn't checked before). Anyway, in due course the fertility clinic did a repeat SA for DH, which was about 3 mths after the first. During this time he had given up pepsi and started taking wellman conception (already didn't smoke at all, or drink v much). And his second SA was normal.

At the sane time as that the fertility clinic sent me for a HSG which didn't show any probs but you never really know if has cleared a bit of muck out.

We got pg the month after the HSG, but also within 3 mths of dh's improved SA.

Now we'll never know what the real cause was. Maybe it was the sperm, or a blockage subsequently cleared by the HSG, or a combination of both. Or maybe his first SA was just 'unlucky' as they often say you can't rely on one sample, and there wasn't really a problem there in the first place?

So quite possibly for your DH there won't be a problem, but I think it can't harm to try a male conception vit to give everything a helping hand if it is taking longer than expected.

We used the wellman conception one (well we actually bought the pregnacare his and hers but it's the same thing) but I know lots of people gave looked at just certain components if it and I'm sure someone who who knows more can advise on that.
