The old thread seems to have run out of room... I'm hoping this works as a continuation...

Hi All, I'm back at home after a very long morning in the hospital. In for 8am but not in the surgery until 12.20. Very thirsty!
They only got 8 eggs so I'm feeling a little disappointed. They're talking ICSI which in my view isn't great, but I don't know all that much about it. Everything is crossed now that a good number fertilise tomorrow....
blacktreacle have you called your nurses? You may just be having a reaction to the drugs, but it's worth checking to find out.
I'm off to bond with the sofa & an episode of Glee before DH returns with DS.

jumping I'm so so sorry what you and your other half are going through - I don't have any clever words, but just to let you know there are real and heartfelt feelings for you from me and the all the other posters. It is true that your got a BFP though and I hope that gives you lots of positivity going forward.

Re the other question on time from testing, I tested 11 days after my 5 day blastocyst transfer.

Teds77 · 24/10/2011 17:07

Clo that sounds terrible - really hope that you are doing a bit better by now. Look after yourself xxx.

Cloclo15 · 24/10/2011 13:39

Hi all, posting from my bed in recovery ward, had procedure at 9.15am but was in a lot of pain when I came round and they have to keep me here till 1.30. Unfortunately I'm not allowed to have a nap either :(

Pain came from the 31 eggs they collected! Just been told I'm at risk of moderate to severe OHSS which isn't much fun. Was a bit jealous when the people in the next cubicle left at about 10.30am to go to Costa - she even went in theatre after me! But I suppose I shouldn't complain about the number of eggs. Let's hope some of them fertilise...

A lovely quote from Audrey Hepburn- Nothing is impossible, the word itself says 'I'm possible'!

Thanks for your kind words ladies - posting on here and getting this support has been so valuable.

Believe me, I'm not being brave - I've spent much of the last 2 days blubbing and feeling very 'not brave'. However, the only thing we can do now is look to the future, 'what doesn't kill you makes you stronger' and all that.

Sending love, waggles and Thanks to all of you x

zeebee1 · 24/10/2011 09:02

Hi clo - we only had to wait 12 days after ET to test. I Think some clinics have different "rules". 2ww was ok to start wiith - then after about the 4th day we both found it hard to deal with. The key is to keep busy, look after yourself and if you have the zita west relaxation cd - I found that v helpful after a long day...
pink your ET sounds joyless! Glad they got there on the end tho. Keep well.
sorry - on my phone doing this message on bumpy bus ride to work!
Excuse the typos!
Good luck todayeveryone

zeebee1 · 23/10/2011 19:02

jumping I am so sad for you. How devastating. Thinking of you and sending you lots of hugs. You sound very strong.
Ivf is such a tough journey isn't it. We are almost not allowed to enjoy any of this experience - it's fraught with anxiety all the way through.
Anyway I hope guys are being helpful and compasionate.
Zb

Cloclo15 · 23/10/2011 19:00

I'm not at 2ww stage yet, but I know I'm supposed to wait 16 days too. It seems like quite a long time, but I suppose it means you get a definite answer :/

Pinkforboys · 23/10/2011 18:34

Hello All,
Thanks blacktreacle for reminding me that I need to take my other dose of Voltarol. Unpleasant as it is!
I now have 2 embies on board after a marathon 40 minute transfer session. Turns out my 'slightly' heart-shaped womb was a real challenge and after missing the target, then hitting but missing one of the embies, they finally left me with one embryo in each chamber. And one leftover to develop another day and hopefully make it to the freezer tomorrow. Oh- and I had to sit on a full bladder for 3 hours. Altogether an experience I would like to forget. I just hope the outcome in 9 months overshadows this afternoon.
How are the TWW's going? I'm not supposed to test for 16 days, yet in Oz I had my blood test just 11 days later. How long has/is everyone else waiting to test?
Happy rest of weekend x

I'm so sorry jumping. You sound like you are being very brave. It is the worst emotional pain ever but eventually you do feel a little better.
Take care
Good luck for EC cloclo and for ET pink. Do you get voltarol for it? I didn't and would have liked some!
Xx

Pinkforboys · 23/10/2011 11:04

jumping I'm so sorry. This journey can be so cruel and having had the euphoria of a BFP to be followed by a loss is horrendous. But there is a positive to take away from this- that you did get to see the BFP line. It is possible for you to get pg and you can hope to see it again, and hopefully all the way through to a screaming bubba next time. Meanwhile take some you time- you'll need it, and don't under-estimate how much time you'll need.

AFM- i'm on the countdown to ET... voltarol in 30mins. Downing 1.5l water in 90mins and then transfer at 1.30pm. I'm finally feeling positive about this so the timing is good. Watching the All Blacks lift the World Cup is helping!

Hugs to all x

Jumping, I'm so sorry, can't imagine how you must be feeling. Please take care of yourself and give yourself time before preparing for the next round.

Less than 24 hours for EC for me, boobs are killing me and I'm sure one side of my belly is sticking out more than the other, but DH has convinced me this is all normal. Just can't wait to get all these eggs out now, it is the weirdest feeling isn't it?

Teds77 · 23/10/2011 10:55

jumpin so very sorry Sad and you're not being self-indulgent at all.

I know there's a chance of miscarriage with any pregnancy but somehow I wish we ivf ladies were exempt - after all of the ups and downs of the journey it seems heartbreaking that you've now had this xxx

Give your self a little bit of time to grieve and be sad - you don't have to be superwoman and be positive straight-away.

bugsylugs · 23/10/2011 10:45

Jumping there are no words I am so sorry for you both. Be kind to yourselves, and give yourselves some time. I really hear you that this is harder than if you had been BFN originally hugs

jumpingjackhash · 23/10/2011 09:39

Hey there all, apologies I've not got time to read through all of the updates but huge congrats to Zeebee!

Sadly I lost out little Jackette yesterday, woke up with terrible cramps, started to bleed so the emergency doctor called us in for scans and tests. They confirmed I was miscarrying there and then. Sad.

We are beyond gutted, I think this is worse than getting a negative pg test result in the first place - for the last week we've been so deliriously happy and now it's all come crashing down.

We're seeing the consultant again at the end of November to discuss the next steps, we're probably going to be starting all over again in the new year. Until then we're just trying to put this behind us and have a positive outlook for the next attempt, which is hard at the moment, as it felt we got there 'by the skin of our teeth' at each stage this last time.

Total mixed feelings of sadness, frustration, while trying to find a positive outlook somewhere in it all.

Sorry for (yet another) self indulgent post - you guys are the only people we told about the ins and outs of it all and the bfp (aside from parents, who are also incredibly sad).

bugsylugs · 22/10/2011 22:19

zeebee congratulations [hgrin] that is fantstic so pleased hope you enjoy your Wine. I was up at stupid o' clock looking only just got back to the computer
fatima welcome hope you find you next nhs place much more suited to you, and good luck with the private one.
it is great to know peoples experiences with EC etc makes it so much less stressful. stent=cannula

enjoying relaxing watching strictly late still with a glass in hand. Harry has just danced.
lovely weekend to all

blacktreaclecat · 22/10/2011 18:50

I felt dreadful the day after trigger shot. Sensitive bladder more than cystitis. It didn't hurt to wee but needed to go all the time. Also had nausea and upset tummy and again after EC.
If things get worse or you are very concerned I would ring your clinic, there should be an out of hours number for advice.

I was terrified about EC because it was going to be sedation rather than GA. It turned out (Care Notts) to be such deep sedation I couldn't tell the difference. The only difference was with GA they have to intubate you but with deep sedation you can maintain your own airway. I would ask what drugs they use- I had a cocktail of midazolam, propofol and fentanyl and it was great!

This seems to be a very lucky thread, hope the run of bfps continues!

Cloclo15 · 22/10/2011 18:25

Just a couple of hours off the trigger shot now, and I seem to be getting the onset of something like cystitis as wellas an upset stomach, trying to sip on lots of water to stop it. Anyone else had this happen?

Pinkforboys · 22/10/2011 15:28

Hi Fatima and a big welcome.
I feel like one of the experienced ones now that I can say I've had EC both under light sedation and GA. In Oz I was conscious throughout and got to see all the eggs being found on a big screen- better than any cup final!
In London they said they preferred GA as some research suggests that the eggs might be sensitive to light. Though they would have kept me awake if i'd insisted apparently... The sleep was pretty good, but I have a suspicion that they're a bit rougher with you when under GA cos it's taken me a good 4 days to feel like my insides are back to normal this time. It's not a major procedure so light sedation is fine, you're just groggy for a while afterwards as with GA.
GOod luck.

FatimaLovesBread · 22/10/2011 13:26

Zeebee thanks Grin
We're based in West Yorks but close to Manchester and South Yorks

Has everyone had GA for EC? THe clinic where i' having private treatment has said they'll sedate me rather than use GA and put me under Confused

Pinkforboys · 22/10/2011 13:20

Congratulations zeebee!!!!
So good to have so many BFPs! Let's keep this clean positive record going.....

clo the descriptions of anaesthetic are just like my experience- I'd just add the warning that as you come out of the drug-haze you can say all sorts of things. Thankfully I was really loving to DH. I over heard the lady opposite me say 'I hope I didn't fart'! Lots of sniggers from behind all the curtains!!

Our ET has been put off yet another day, but the triplets are doing well- one a 14 cell compaction (?), one pre-morola, the last one a morola. I've no idea what any of that means other than it's good news and hopefully there will be at least 2 blastocysts by tomorrow.
Now I just need to get myself into a positive state of mind. So difficult when feeling bloated and constipated and permanently dehydrated!!! Oh and having fearsome rows with a rather stubborn 4 year old DS. It is worth all this effort, I promise, even on the tantrum days!

Sticky wishes to all xx

hurray zeebee such lovely news! I had Wine too to celebrate, it felt like something to be toasted! Well done! Fantastic!

zeebee1 · 22/10/2011 11:57

clo thanks and glad that made you feel less worried Smile.
We aren't doing much to celebrate - altho just booked us tickets to see "We Need to Talk about Kevin" - that might actually put us off having kids of our own - but i've just read the book and found it intreguing!
Teds thanks so much as well - how are you doing?
fatima welcome to our lovely thread - it's a nice safe place to vent! I hope you manage to find a good hospital - sounds like you've had a bad experience which is unfortuante. Where are you based? Good luck with it all.

Teds77 · 22/10/2011 11:44

Congrats zeebee lovely news! And belated congrats to polly I think too.

clo I'd never had anaesthetic before either, was also a but nervous but it was fine. I think the stent (?) was put in whilst I was waiting outside the theatre. So just went into the theatre, then lay down in the right place (some bottom shuffling required), the anaesthetist asked me to think of the place where I'm happiest and I said 'home' and the next thing I knew I was waking up next to DH. I was also pain free for the rest of the day and didn't need to take any painkiller.

You'll be fine xxx

FatimaLovesBread · 22/10/2011 11:44

Hi can I join now the thread is nice and new?

I'm currently awaiting ICSI due to DHs Oligozoospermia.
We are on the waiting list with the NHS but this is moving very slowly. We're also having private treatment with egg sharing.
We've had all the test etc for egg sharing and currently waiting for a recipient match before we start treatment.

NHS wise we're waiting for another consultation at the beginning of november, we've switched hospital through patient choice as the woman who gave us our initial diagnosis was horrible and unprofessional and DH does not want to go back there.

Just seems to be a never ending wait! Not helped by me dreaming I was pregnant and then had a DD last night so woke up feeling a bit crappy.

How is everyone else?
