The old thread seems to have run out of room... I'm hoping this works as a continuation...

Hi All, I'm back at home after a very long morning in the hospital. In for 8am but not in the surgery until 12.20. Very thirsty!
They only got 8 eggs so I'm feeling a little disappointed. They're talking ICSI which in my view isn't great, but I don't know all that much about it. Everything is crossed now that a good number fertilise tomorrow....
blacktreacle have you called your nurses? You may just be having a reaction to the drugs, but it's worth checking to find out.
I'm off to bond with the sofa & an episode of Glee before DH returns with DS.

Sorry you are feeling poorly blacktreacle.

I went in for my scan today. My ovaries are, in the words of the nurse 'massive, and squashing my uterus into submission' and I have a fair bit of fluid around them which is causing the discomfort, but she showed pics to the consultant and they aren't concerned enough to stop the transfer, though goodness knows how they will do it if my uterus is all squished.

My bloating from the progesterone is still awful, apparently this will be better after I can start using the pessaries vaginally after egg transfer.

Overall I feel very uncomfortable and amazed that anyone could be back at work two days after EC - I'm still not sure I'll be alright next week, especially since a bizarre side effect seems to be car sickness believe it or not!

blacktreaclecat · 26/10/2011 14:13

The NHS don't measure it you have to pay privately. As I say with 31 eggs you don't need to worry.
2ww- 7 days post blast transfer. Feel fine, just normal except for progesterone induced constipation etc. Full of cold and not taking anything except paracetamol. Having an afternoon in bed.
Trying not to think about it too much and keep thinking at least we got frosties.
Hope you are feeling a bit better today
Xxx

Cloclo15 · 26/10/2011 07:01

Thanks blacktreacle. I know all my hormone results came back normal so I'm guessing that was as well or they would be bound to have mentioned it.

How are you feeling now on your TWW? What day do you test?

blacktreaclecat · 26/10/2011 06:23

AMH is antimullerian hormone and is an indicator of ovarian reserve and likely response to Stims. With 31 eggs on 150 menopur yours is likely to be normal/ high. If you have PCOS it can come back high as well.
HTH

Cloclo15 · 25/10/2011 22:53

Teds don't feel bad, my DH was determined to call anyway and I'd rather be safe than sorry. I will ask at the scan tomorrow if there is anything I can do about bloating/trapped wind/constipation. If I'm honest I usually have the opposite problem so I'm not used to this.

On a positive note my lower abdomen feels a lot better already, so I think everything is healing nicely.

The doc said my vomiting could have been due to anaesthetic or all the hormones floating around or simply from being prodded about so much the day before.

As far as meds go, I was on 150iu of Menopur each day. Not sure what my AMH is - what is that?

bugsylugs · 25/10/2011 22:47

Clo how gastly for you hope you get good news with scan tomorrow. now I come to think about it did get constipated on progesterone just did not put 2 and 2 together!!! hope you get some well earned rest tonight

Pinkforboys · 25/10/2011 22:42

It sounds like you're having a really miserable time cloclo. I'm finding the meds are making me constipated and bloated too- I'm into comfy sweats and unbelted jeans...but it's like being authentically pregnant not just pupo! I've had it since before the progesterone. Not resorted to prunes...yet.

Let me know if you find anything that works!

Meanwhile I'm trying to distract myself by planning a 40th birthday weekend away with friends. Any advice on weekend rentals within 3 hours drive of London would be a welcome Grin

Teds77 · 25/10/2011 22:34

Hi Clo glad you're home and does sound miserable - feeling bad about suggesting the call but think it's best to be safe. I was really constipated too, to the extent that when I did eventually manage to get some.. err... movement, it was like giving birth Grin

bugsy I'm not really sure about the doses as I've not mixed menopur and gonal f - sorry not to be more helpful. I'm on 300 units of menopur and my AMH is 2 so a fair bit lower than you.

Cloclo15 · 25/10/2011 22:32

Thanks blacktreacle, I might try that of things don't move soon. I am trying to eat plenty of protein as I've been told but think I might have to intersperse it with fruit and fibre and stewed prunes!

blacktreaclecat · 25/10/2011 21:50

That sounds really miserable cloclo. Glad you are home in your own bed. The progesterone makes me constipated etc. Fibogel and lactulose are both fine- checked with my clinic.
Hope the scan tomorrow is ok.

Cloclo15 · 25/10/2011 21:32

Well I called the clinic and left a message - they eventually got back to us about 4 and said if I had vomited then I needed to go up to the gynae ward. We got there at 4.45 and have just got back now. We waited 3 and a half hours to be seen! My bloods and urine were fine but there was noone around to do a scan so I have to go back again tomorrow :( feel knackered, starving and officially hate waiting room chairs.
Also, did anyone else get serious bloating/trapped wind from the progesterone? My belly is killing because nothing is shifting, apparently progesterone slows the muscles down but none of my trousers fit!

bugsylugs · 25/10/2011 18:40

pink thanks for the link.
clo glad your blood tests are ok hope you are feeling better. could just be the effect of the drugs they used for collection. great news on fert rate the problem is wewant them all to work and all to be top grade.
jumping you are in my thoughts.

is anyone able top do a list to show where we all are?

Decided I really ought to look at protocol today so it is suprecur 0.5ml sc, then for stim menopur 225 units and gonalF 150 units how does that compare I think my AMH was 8.7. think I will repeat it and TSH tomorrow to see if there has been a chnge as it is more than 6 months what do you all think. Have really kept my head in the sand have not read the info, note to self get finger out of hole and head out of sand.

House sale done yippee.

Teds77 · 25/10/2011 13:48

I would call if you have vomited. If you're blood tests are clear that's great but I think it's better to be safe.

Cloclo15 · 25/10/2011 13:34

Thanks Teds. Bit worried - my blood tests yesterday showed no signs of OHSS according to the nurse who phoned earlier but I have just vomited - do you think I should call them back? :/

Teds77 · 25/10/2011 13:13

Hi Clo don't know if I'm being helpful, but there is some evidence that suggests that you don't necessarily get a better outcome if you get more than 15/16 eggs - but obviously it you get 15/16 (or more!) then you do get the best outcomes statistically. So I think with 18 fertilised you have a really good prognosis so you should be hopeful! That's huge potential for both some nice blastos to choose from at ET and some for the freezer. Plus remember you only need one good one anyway.

On the sperm, you're right on the day 3 stuff. If embryos develop slowly before day 3 it's more likely due to the quality of the egg and after day 3 then the sperm comes into play. But with ICSI the embryologists are able to pick out the best swimmers and even if your DH's count and quality isn't great there will have still been loads to choose from. Promise x.

Cloclo15 · 25/10/2011 12:50

Hi zeebee, it's really hard cos you just don't know how they are going to get on do you? DH's sperm is pretty poor, so I suppose if we at least get to blasto stage we'll have a better idea of what is viable, especially as we will only be allowed to transfer one. Am I right that after day 3 the sperm starts to affect development more? I'm sure I heard that somewhere :/

zeebee1 · 25/10/2011 10:45

clo amazing news on your record (?) egg collection and that's a really good rate of fertilization too. Of my 20 eggs only 11 fertilised, and of those we had 2 put back and 4 on ice. It was half and half ivf and icsi...
bugs good luck with accupuncture - I found it v useful throughout the ivf process. It de stressed me at times I most needed it.
pink I like your Hepburn quote- inspiring.
jumping how are you doing today? Keep thinking about all you've gone thru. Sending you some good vibes and some Smile's

zb

Cloclo15 · 25/10/2011 10:15

Hi all, have had the phone call and of the 31, 25 were big enough for ICSI and of those 18 have fertilised. I had hoped that more would fertilise, but it still might mean some frosties depending on how they get on. The embryologist said about 20-30% will probably be viable in the end. Looks like we might be transferring on Saturday rather than Friday which at least gives me a chance to recover as I'm still feeling very sore today.

Pinkforboys · 24/10/2011 22:09

bugsy- have you tried www.acupuncture.org.uk/?

Is anyone else on Clexane? I'm finding the evening shots really painful. Imagine if all you had to do was have sex to get pregnant Envy If everyone had to go through what we're doing to get a child the world's population would be soooo much smaller....

blacktreaclecat · 24/10/2011 22:01

Cloclo- well done on 31 eggs, hope you feel better soon. I was high risk of ohss, but not as many eggs as you- 21. I didn't get it. I was on cabergoline and drank lots of water, also they say isotonic sports drinks to keep your electrolyte balance. Lots of protein also salty foods.
If you are still in a lot of pain you can have cocodamol, I checked.
Xxx

bugsylugs · 24/10/2011 19:52

cloclo glad you are at home with hotty, sorry it has been such an ordeal great number though canapes, music and the obligatory champers on route.
Pink oouch my bladder would never have survived well done.

fingers crossed we my have sold the house tomorrow. (we moved out a few months ago). otherwise no news from me.

Still trying to find someone who does acupuncture near stafford where is a good place to look.

Cloclo15 · 24/10/2011 18:01

Thanks all for your well wishes. At home in bed now, still in quite a bit of pain and having to drink 4 litres of water a day to try to alleviate OHSS, but happier for being in my own bed with my hot water bottle :)

Teds77 · 24/10/2011 17:19

Oh and pink just properly read your post about ET - also sounds ouchy and have no idea, err, how you kept the wee in so long! Fingers crossed for it all being worth it xx.

Pinkforboys · 24/10/2011 17:17

Clo- how awful, but 31 is fantastic! You could start up a football league with that lot!
Take care in recovering. x

Also on testing questions, I thought it was 16 days after EC so that will mean different dates after ET depending on what day ET you had.
