TTC/ pregnancy on Prednisolone or similar part 2

Arianrhod · 18/10/2011 09:55

Starting up part 2 of this thread since the old one closed at 1000 posts!

iggi lots of luck for today, hope it's nothing - I know it doesn't help but I know lots of women have spotting and/or bleeding in pregnancy and it still goes ok. Definitely call the EPU, get scanned - it's worth it, honestly, at least you will know one way or another. Virtual hugs coming your way.

free I also started AF properly this morning, so looks like we may be both importuning a friendly witch for a good fertility spell on Hallowe'en? I know exactly what you mean about the scary stuff ... a small part of me was actually sort of relieved when I didn't get a BFP purely because it means I don't have to go through the whole worrying about miscarrying all over again. Bizarre, but there it is.

Hello, had the scan, complete ball of nerves but all seemed good.
Never thought I'd get to 12 weeks.

ChoccyPud · 16/11/2011 10:03

I've been to centre parcs a few times in my youth Digi, always had fun. Enjoy the massage!

I'll slap Ari when I see her later. I was cheered by a line appearing straight away on this morning's test and it was definitely more obvious than yesterday's. Saying that my back is aching slightly, kinda pre AF style, but I am trying not to panic about it, as I know full well it could be bad but equally could be pg symptom or just tension or from having sat wrongly or whatever.

Off to NLC shortly.

digitalgirl · 16/11/2011 09:20

ari I always try and wait four days between tests. But at the very least two days as it takes two days for hcg to double. At this stage your hcg is still quite low around 50-100. So there's not going to be much difference in line strength. Also if you are actually comparing it to yesterday's test by lining them up then yesterday's test will have got darker over 24 hours as it dries, so it's not a fair comparison.
Now stop panicking over strength of lines at this stage - it's really not scientific enough for you to tell whether your hcg is rising properly. Trust your body to do the right thing (and respond to the treatment accordingly). You've already upped your pred dose so you're doing everything you can.

free good luck with that clinic, nice of your brother to turn it into a sight-seeing trip!

brownie pleased to hear scan went well. Congrats on getting past your previous mc milestones, it eases the worry slightly.

iggi good luck today!

As I predicted I overdid it physically yesterday. We hired some bikes and went on some very short bike rides (20 mins max, no hills). But had also done about an hours worth of walking too. So very very achy and stiff last night with accompanying cramping and twinging. Feel fine this morning but will have to take it easy today. Bum hurts from bike too as I haven't ridden a bike properly since I was 10. DS is having a great time though, which is wonderful. Dh has a trailer on the back of his bike and took him for a longer ride while I was having a massage. Will definitely come back here, as long as it's out of season and I'm not pg.

Arianrhod · 16/11/2011 09:00

lol Thanks cheerful, I need a dose of slap-in-the-face. But you know ... I thought of that .. my urine was actually more dilute yesterday, I drank more the night before, so it would actually have been stronger this morning ....

Keep slapping please! :)

OP posts:
Cheerfulcharlie · 16/11/2011 08:58

Ari! What are you talking about?! It's unlikely your urine was the same strength as yesterday, so stop panicing and enjoy your intralipids :-)

Arianrhod · 16/11/2011 08:52

Morning ladies, only a very quickie as off to NLC in a few mins.

free hope the aching legs/hips have buggered off, and you managed to sort out your intralipids?

And good luck to those with scans today, give us the good news when you can!

Right, so I'm now into MAJOR panic mode because ... I tested again, 12dpo, and the line is exactly as faint as yesterday's. Reason I'm panicking is because out of the three pregnancies I've had this year, this is exactly what happened with the middle one where I lost it very early. Pregnancies 1 and 3, 12 dpo the line was as strong as the control line, no doubts there. Pregnancy 2 in Feb, 12dpo was faint, tested every day for next 4 days and line stayed exactly as faint, 5th day turned negative and 6th day I lost it.

Doesn't the fact that the line hasn't got any stronger indicate that my hCG levels aren't rising, and therefore that implantation either hasn't happened properly or just isn't developing?

I know others have said they had faint lines for quite some time, and still carried on with their pregnancies, but given that my history seems to indicate I get a strong line if it's ok and faint if it's not, doesn't that mean that's the case this time too?

Major panicking going on, and really wondering if I'm about to throw away £350 on intralipids I'm really not going to need. Bugger bugger bugger :( Absolutely no confidence at all in this "pregnancy" :(

Morning ladies, not sure who but I remember some of you have scans today, everything crossed for u and can't wait to read your lovely scan stories tonight.

Have a nice hump day everyone !! XxxGrin

freelancegirl · 16/11/2011 00:20

Great news Brownie! That really is amazing. Am so pleased for you.

Scooter wise words from your counsellor. Sorry time is dragging, especially in what must be a stressed time in terms of number of weeks for you.

I too would have thought they would be way more advanced here than at home. But it turns out it is exactly the opposite. Have spent ALL day trying to track down someone who will convert a prescription for me and finally come across a clinic about an hour away who are really speaking our language. They sound amazing! The trouble is they also want to do Progesterone tests and other things but can do intralipids there and I am probably looking at a bill of around 700USD rather than £350 but am thinking I can get the money together and it might well be worth it.

I was crying with frustration earlier - even the doc beer clinic told me they didn't believe in intralipids and only prescribed Pred to people with antiphos. diagnosis!!! Not want we want to hear when we are putting our faith in this stuff. These guys here sounded like they were more than on the same page as Mr S. Am still reeling from this revelatio - I thought Dr Beer's lot would be all over it.

www.acaciofertility.com/acacio-distinctives.html

My bro says it is a really lovely drive and nice area too. Waiting for them to get back to me after she has spoken to the doc.

Good to hear scooter that there is a back up plan in terms of me being able to wait until 5 weeks if I really have to. But am thinking that if they get back to me regarding the doctor here I might well go for it.

Sue in terms of SWI I did every day from CD11 to CD16, shorter than last time I was then away from DH at my friend's after 16. But I got pregnant very easily on the first time with Pred and that didn't help me.

One thing I am quite worried about is my legs and hips have started to ache already and this happened the last time. Having not had a successful pregnancy to compare to I don't know what's normal. I worry that it is my body going into attack mode already.

BrownieGecko · 15/11/2011 22:39

OMG indeed!!!! I haven't been around for a few days and it is all a go go here. Whispered Mexican wave for Free, Choccy, Ari & Cheerful. Know you must be bricking it, sending you lots of hugs.

I have had my head buried in the sand till we had our scan yesterday, I had convinced myself sudden lack of symptoms meant I had had another mmc. Happy to report the little bean measured according to dates and had a strong heartbeat. We were blown away as never had a hb this far on. Next scan is nuchal on 28/11

Only a quick post now sorry, good luck to you girls having scans tmrw. I will update the list and spreadsheet tmrw morning. X x x

suemays · 15/11/2011 22:25

Oh my god - look what happens when I don't go on here for a few days!! Massive congrats to all you newly pregnant ladies!
Free I said you would get pregnant so how funny!!!

I now feel like the pressure is on and really worrying it will take me ages to get pregnant again!

Did you all do the sperm meets egg plan or SWI every other day??? The rest of us TTC need some tips!!!

scooterchaser · 15/11/2011 22:14

Wowee! Gaping at my phone like a loon so delighted to hear about the BFPs! Little hoorays all round for cheerful, free, ari and choccy! I am still at the stage of allowing myself one little hooray a day when I wake up still pregnant and it still surprises me when another week ticks over so all I can say is throw all the meds at it asap and then just try and brrrreeeeathe!!

free good luck with your intralipids quest, I've heard NK treatment is generally a bit more advanced in the States so I am sure the right expert must be just around the corner, definitely badger Dr S's office for contacts out there. I had first intralipids at 5 weeks and i think coconut did later but you definitely need to hear what Dr S recommends for you. I've found Annabella and Cheryl pretty good at returning emails quickly when there is time pressure. It must be frustrating to have to deal with different time zones when you just want things sorted!

iggi well done for the big milestone and rooting for your 12 week scan! Keep us posted.

coconut glad to hear of your good scan today and that you got to share it with DP.

stogan brilliant for sharing your hilarious rolypoly pregnant moment, ever hoping for some of those in the not too distant future!

Staying optimistic as possible here, despite very few reassuring symptoms. Just hoping they are pred-masked. I was frankly overjoyed during an hour of nausea the other morning!

Went to the counsellor today, first time since the pregnancy. She was really reassuring and told me to just accept the rollercoaster and try not to beat myself up when all the bad memories and negative thoughts fight their way in. She also said that they had done studies and there is NO correlation between maternal anxiety levels and miscarriage. There is a slight link between anxiety in pregnancy and post-natal depression but I can't see any of us being depressed at the point we finally get a baby!!! Touch of mania, maybe!

DH is away now for the two week window in which I lost all of my pregnancies (7-9weeks) so I may be keeping a low profile while I try and trudge through time and make it out the other side. This week has already felt like an eternity and it's STILL Tuesday.

Arianrhod · 15/11/2011 21:38

LMP for me was 19th Oct btw

OP posts:
Arianrhod · 15/11/2011 21:37

Just a very quickie .. cheerful I'm taking 5mg l-methylfolate (well 4.8mg since Folapro comes in 800mcg tablets) since those of us with homo MTHFR have little or no ability to convert synthetic folic acid into the methylated form usable by our bodies. I'm taking no chances.

free how did you get on/are you getting in with arranging your intralipids? It's a good idea to see if Mr S can recommend someone I think, if you're getting no joy. Better safe than sorry, right?

The omep I decided I'm only going to take as and when I need it and only then if the Rennie fail first. Strangely I haven't had the severe reaction tummy-wise this cycle that I had with the first, no indigestion at all, just wind for the first few days.

coconut great to hear about your scan, sounds fantastic. You pg ladies have given us all the hope that maybe, just maybe, we might have a chance too.

OP posts:
ChoccyPud · 15/11/2011 21:32

LMP was 20th October.

Thanks Coconut think I'll see how I go.

Coconutfeet · 15/11/2011 21:05

Yiiihaaa! Congratulations you three! Wonderful. wonderful news. I know you're all bricking it now but we're all here for you for those mentalling moments.

Those who weren't so successful this month: I really hope it'll happen for you next time around.

Free - I really hope you manage to get your inralipids sorted out. I think asking Mr S whether he knows someone is a really good plan. I mentioned to him that I was thinking of switching to Homerton hospital and he immediate gave the the name of one of his friends who would be sure to look after me and give me a particular scan that I'm going to need at 23 weeks (can't remember offhand what it's called but apparently it's a good indicator of late pregnancy complications).

Choccy - I was on 40mg of pred and didn't bother with the omeprazole as it didn't mess with my stomach, so you may find that you're lucky and you don't need it. I think others have taken it as and when they've needed it.

Well, I finally had my NHS scan today. The sonographer was really good and took time to really talk us through what she could see, which hasn't always been my experience. It was dp's first time to see the baby as he's not been able to attend the appts with Mr S so he was pretty emotional. We've finally got an official due date (7th May). That feels weird!

Who else is being scanned this week? Iggi and Comedy I think? Good luck both of you. Keep us posted.

freelancegirl · 15/11/2011 20:50

When is your LMP date? Mine is Oct 18th. I can't help thinking about dates as I have trips to plan to distract me from everything!

ChoccyPud · 15/11/2011 20:39

free I'll ask about Xmas closure dates when I'm at NLC tomorrow. Not wanted to calculate due date yet or even when second intralipids would (will?) be due, but if you need to know, I must need to know. Will post when I've found out. Hope you get it all sorted soon.

freelancegirl · 15/11/2011 20:28

It is indeed worldwide network of drug-swapping, emotionally supportive, intelligent, well informed chatter boxes here today Choccy and Battery. I like to think we are a rather special group and I do hope that there are other people getting this support if they haven't yet found us.

I think about Cornflakes who came on and then went AWOL and I hope other people feel free to join! Let's try to remember to put something like that on the opening bit of thread number 3 - which at this pace will need doing in no time!

I also can't believe that on the 6th, those who can make it of course, we will be meeting in person to talk about steroids and weird infusions to our hearts content and we will all know what we are going on about :)

Still no confirmed intralipids here yet but am working on it and hopefully will here imminently.

Choc I took the Omep as and when I needed it after going up to 40mg last time. It was more frequent at first but not every day. I am already feeling a bit sore in the tummy today so might have to start necking it. I think I too will be getting some more pg tests as well so I completely understand.

Thanks for the date info snoopy. I am needing to know the dates on the first side of Xmas so will have to wait until I find out or anyone else might know.

batteryhen · 15/11/2011 20:16

God - there is a lot of organising going on around the world tonight!
I have updated my bits on the chart

ChoccyPud · 15/11/2011 20:12

Wow. What a day. I've just gone back and read through today's posts - do you guys realise we've run up 3 pages today alone?!

I must say that I don't know how I'd have got through the last few months, or how I'd feel now, or how I'll cope regardless of what happens from here on in, without our group here. You are such a fantastic bunch of people. The fact that we all know there are others out there on the life raft is SO important and knowing that there's support there if needed makes such a difference. As does the genuine emotion behind all the lovely congratulations posts today. Big big hugs all round Thanks

I've got a bit of a buzz on this evening, must be the huge Pred plus a fair amount of adrenaline presumably. Beginning to dip a bit now I've sat down to read the thread, which is good, as I would like half a chance of sleeping... I must also confess to digging the FR out of the bin to have another look at that line just to check I didn't imagine it - is that mad? Undoubtedly. Blush

Pg ladies: what's your view on Omeprazole? I didn't take one this morning as I thought I'd see how my guts feel on 40mg Pred. Do you have to take it for a while to let it build up or can it be popped when necessary? I'm sure someone has asked before but I wasn't paying attention at the time can't remember what the answer was.

snoopygirl · 15/11/2011 20:10

I enquired a week ago and only know that they are back open on Wed 4th didn't ask when they were closing as wasn't relevant to me.
hope your getting somewhere!

freelancegirl · 15/11/2011 20:06

Thanks Snoopy I might well need them.

This is completely premature but does anyone know of what dates the clinic is open/closed over Christmas yet?

snoopygirl · 15/11/2011 19:15

free is this any good to you? they are in LA

www.pacificinfusion.com/patients.html

freelancegirl · 15/11/2011 19:09

Good point. Wonder if I can still get through to the clinic at 7pm? Prob not so will try again tomorrow.
