TTC/ pregnancy on Prednisolone or similar part 2

Starting up part 2 of this thread since the old one closed at 1000 posts!

iggi lots of luck for today, hope it's nothing - I know it doesn't help but I know lots of women have spotting and/or bleeding in pregnancy and it still goes ok. Definitely call the EPU, get scanned - it's worth it, honestly, at least you will know one way or another. Virtual hugs coming your way.

free I also started AF properly this morning, so looks like we may be both importuning a friendly witch for a good fertility spell on Hallowe'en? I know exactly what you mean about the scary stuff ... a small part of me was actually sort of relieved when I didn't get a BFP purely because it means I don't have to go through the whole worrying about miscarrying all over again. Bizarre, but there it is.

Really interesting battery - it's nice when you have validation from another professional to keep going with Mr S. Was it Zita herself? I have one of her books - there's a lot about nutrition and lifestyle in there.
I'd stopped taking my D3 but might get back on them again (skin has gone to pot since coming off the roids - I'll spare you all the list as it's embarrassing, but I am affected by various afflictions from head to foot).

stogan hope you're feeling a bit better today. The Fear does creep up on us even when we think we're fine. Bad dreams are perfectly normal after everything you've been through - and certainly don't mean anything other than you're worried.

duggs you get slapped with a wet haddock for testing so early! But only a little one because you've been so fab at organising the meet-up.

Didn't make it out to a display last night, which is just as well as dh suddenly developed a migraine and we all went to bed about 8pm [pathetic emoticon].

Battery and Duggs - I got my positive on Sat 29th. Thinking of testing on Fri 11th or 12th as don't think anything will show up before then. Thats the plan but I am guessing impatience will kick in and I will do it before!!!

Battery - I am going to keep taking the preds for 14 days unless my AF comes or I get a BFP. I dont want to stop taking them early incase a BFP does appear at a later date!

Encouraging that Zita West backs what Dr S says. It really is a minefield on who to listen to. I have heard the thing about laptops and also mobile phones in men's pockets. Hard to stop them doing that though.

One of my friend going though ICSI was told that men's sperm levels dramatically reduce around the age of 40 therefore making it harder to get pregnant. That's another thing to worry about - great!

Kittens - I am sure you will be OK, there are loads of people your age and older that have kids with no probs. At least we have had tests etc done so it rules out a lot of things to worry about. A friend of a friend just had her first at 48!!! Get your OH to put his laptop on a cushion.

Duggs - did you get my email about meeting up nearer to where we live instead of London? I suggested a pub in Farnham Royal so its close to the M40 and M4 if anyone else wants to join us???

ChoccyPud · 05/11/2011 21:42

Me too please battery :)

I'm 36, dh is 41... Great!!

Havingkittens · 05/11/2011 20:10

Thanks for imparting all of that info battery. Can you PM me the link to the online forum please?

Hmmmm, with regards to the men over 40 and women over 35 comment.... Oh dear! I'm nearly 42 and my OH is 46. Oh, and he uses a laptop a lot. Yikes!

duggs1976 · 05/11/2011 18:42

Forgot word - meant To say - "is interesting about uterine cells..." Blush

duggs1976 · 05/11/2011 18:36

Oh battery how useful yes pls to the link!
I got a positive opk last Friday - 28th so I'm guessing I'm 8 dpo. Symptom spotting driving me mad too ladies. When would you say i can test - monday ? 10 dpo? I wont get a positive then. My face is v round right now. what you heard about blood testing and uterine testing as doesn't dr s say is inaccurate - almost impossible to test uterine because of periods and timing!

I had acupuncture today - my second ever. Not sure what difference it made if any but felt useful and I relaxed for a while.
Any other news ?

Ties 6 dec looks like a date in central London then. We'll work on a venue nearer the time.

Hope u all ok lovely ladies. Off to my brother an his new wife for dinner. Will probably have to explain my huge face - they are young 31 ish and hope they don't start to talk babies x

batteryhen · 05/11/2011 18:00

hello - I have arrived safely back from London. The fertility show was good - brownie I went to the recurrent Mc lecture which your consultant did. He was very good - answered lots of questions. He did say about NK testing that it is controversial (which we know) and that blood nk cells are very different from uterine NK cells , and really its the uterine cells that should be tested if any for immunology. But he wasn't dismissive at all, and was very reassuring. He also said - men over 40 who have a partner over 35 can increase MC rates (oldies - me!)

The other lecture I went to was by a nutritionist - who talked about preventing mc through diet and supplements. She also talked about immunology - said how good D3 is and how she really believes in it. She also said that there is some suspicion that men who use lap tops regularly - are at risk of damaging sperm - the heat from the lap top etc - especially if they sit with their knees together. She is doing a free on line forum on the 18th November at 8pm - let me know if anyone wants the link. She is all for doing a 12 week programme for men and women before conception - and had stats to show it improves agg and sperm quality. Lots of stuff about zinc, vitamin E and C too.

I had a 10 minute session with Zita west. She was impressed with the treatment I am having and said really the only difference they would do is intralipids - even though I have not got Very high Nk cells. She too was reasuring, and said just to keep to the treatment plan. There were lots of stalls trying to sell stuff - someone did a zinc test on me and announced I should be taking 5 x the amount of d3 that I am taking. I told this to Zita and she said 'rubbish - trust Mr S and his treatment - don't vary from it'.
I also got lots of freebies including a FR test :)

Sue I am on 7dpo too :) When are you testing? I am trying to hold off - I am not a fan of early testing but want to stop the pred asap if I get BFn. No symptoms to speak off though. stogan realistic dreams are a nightmare. I frequently dream about being pregnant and losing it , it really is very sad. I prescribe chocolate - and an airgun for lone magpies :) (only joking :) )

Hope everyone is having a good weekend xxxx

suemays · 05/11/2011 13:59

Stogan - you are bound to be worried but maybe the baby is feeling a bit sleepy? I remember when I was carrying my daughter she had times when I wouldnt feel her move much. It depends on what you have been eating/drinking and doing too. I just think that all of us will be far more worried than ladies who have not been through the whole recurrent miscarriage trauma. Try eating a bit of chocolate as the small amount of caffeine will wake the baby up - used to work with me and was a good excuse to scoff! Duggs is right as there are loads of babies that survive in worse circumstances so try and stay positive.

Cherry - yes socks in bed and keeping the midriff warm are supposed to help ttc. I was told to keep the feet warm at all times - it's probably a load of old cobblers!

Duggs - I am 1 day behind you on the testing front as am 7DPO today and already worrying if I will get a bfp or not next week. I have been manically checking my temp charts against other women on fertility friend who resulted in pregnancy as it looks like I might have had an implantation dip yesterday but I dont want to read too much into it as it could be false hope!

I was also awake at around 3am this morning and couldnt sleep! Damn steroids!

duggs1976 · 05/11/2011 12:51

stogan - ok. First things first. We all know what happens in our minds consciously or sub consciously is irrelevant to what goes on in our uteruses!! I know you know this but the dream was an expression of your obvious anxiety. It is too close to home though. The magpie thing - again I don't know u - but it is the state we get our minds into. The lack of total control - knowing we cannot help or do anything and we could potentially be catapulted back to a dark place. That will never change- not in our lifetimes anyway. SO VERY deep breath. Write down what you can control. Pretty much your actions and you can attempt with your mind. Distraction won't work if you are in this state so face it head on. Say right this baby has got this far and it will keep going until it is ready to be born. You will look after it and yourself all that time. Remember all the babies born in war times, in famines throughout history. The cells have had their chance you are just like any other woman. Say it out loud and go out tonight and keep saying it. Staying in watching factor won't help - it is no way good enough this yearWink Big hug

Stogan · 05/11/2011 12:26

Morning all !! X

digital reason I'm having another scan is Coz my little tinker wouldn't let u's measure its heart so I'm back again for a re-scan.
Very worried today can't stop crying. I no it sounds daft but I had a dream that I lost the baby last night. OH woke me up said I was screaming and my pillow was soaked with tears. Then today I have only felt baby move once and finally, stupid as it sounds, just saw one magpie on it's own SadSadSad supposed to be going out tonight but don't think I can face it, even thinking about going to buy a Doppler today, god I hate this I am Soooo anxious everyday it's driving me insane. Sorry to complain and I no I should be happy I've got this far and i am but I just wake up every morning thinking is this the day it all ends.

So sorry to be so miserable, just want it to be tuesday so I can be scanned Sad x

freelancegirl · 05/11/2011 10:54

Hi all, lots I want to add but am on phone and got lots to do, but just wanted to quickly say to lemon that when I interviewed mr s for the documentary he said nk cells can cause late losses if they have not been treated. Something worth bearing in mind.

Great news Digi that you're off the pessaries! I think taking ds to the park is a lovely thing to do and you would never intentionally give him a cold! Funny things our hormones make us worry about!

lemonsherbet · 05/11/2011 10:31

Just wanted to thank those ladies that gave us advice on Mr S earlier in the week. I am not sure he will be able to help us because what I have been reading the NK cells tend to cause earlier miscarriages. Since we have had a late loss not really in keeping. But thanks to what all of you have been saying. My DH agreed that we could go and see him privately. Just need to get the GP to write a referral letter and print off all of my test results. So on Monday we will give his secretary a call. Feel better thinking something may be done and I will not be told it is just bad luck.

Comedyworks · 05/11/2011 06:55

If it helps to know that you've had company Duggs I've been awake for a few hours too - bloody steroids. I can't wait to go to bed, sleep, wake up and it be morning rather than the middle of the night. Looks like I can make the 6th - at least we should have no difficulty finding each other - I'm the one with the very round face!

duggs1976 · 05/11/2011 04:44

I'm wide awake-Just poas which was pointless as only 8dpo but still always the faintest hope! No idea how these next few days going to speed up.. Tuesday 6 dec looks like it just has edge. euro hopefully u can join !- I doubt it will be our only RL gathering? Why so awake it's Saturday FFS and I'm only responsible for myself and my cat and even he is asleep here snoring in union with DH breathing.

eurochick · 04/11/2011 22:30

The week of 3/6 December is the last week this year that we can possibly go away on holiday, so it is fairly likely we will be away but if we are not, I will be there!

digitalgirl · 04/11/2011 22:25

Tuesday 6th would work for me. Exciting!

It's been 5 days since I've been off the cyclogest. Was wondering what side effects I'd get. So far, itching has subsided. I thought boobs had stopped hurting at night, but last night disproved that. And am now am ever so slightly constipated...lovely.
Emotionally, had a bit of a blub last night thinking about DS...and going over all the rubbish mum moments I've put him through (taking him to the park on a freezing cold day so he ends up with a temperature, all the failed controlled crying episodes etc). No idea why my mind started working in that way. Clearly, my hormones are much more volatile.

comedy can't believe you had to deal with Ofsted on top of everything else. Hope you're taking it easy this weekend. When's your next scan?

iggi what time's your scan on Monday? Mine's at 2pm.

stogan did you say you've got another scan? Is it on the NHS or a private one? I'm wondering whether to get a private one after the anomaly scan. I'm hoping that by then the movements will keep me reassured from that point.

brownie when's your next scan?

Can't believe the mass POASing starts next week! Bring on the BFPs!

We're hoping to go to a fireworks display tomorrow. First time with DS - think he just might be old enough to appreciate them. Happy Bonfire Night everyone!

eurochick · 04/11/2011 22:10

cherry I think there was some discussion about womb warming that moved to keeping extremeties warm, hence socks in bed, but I might have got that completely wrong!

snoopygirl · 04/11/2011 21:47

Bradley Cooper... didn't know who he was ...but googling...he'll do! If not can we interview Matt Baker (one show) for the job. His butlering/rumba skills could be vital for the position!

BrownieGecko · 04/11/2011 21:20

Tues eve 6th is good with me. Sorry tis only a quick one as on iPhone.
Up North for the wknd so have a good weekend girls. X

cherrycheeks · 04/11/2011 20:57

Hi Everyone..
suemays Socks I'm bed?? I really can't wait to read through this thread so that I'm am up to date on important techniques.
On my phone so just a quick post(again)
Gonna wear socks in bed tonight and find out why tomorrow.

Havingkittens · 04/11/2011 19:55

Sat 3rd would be perfect for me because OH is at his work Christmas do the night before so it would mean I wouldn't be at home to listen to his hungover whimpering Grin BUT, if the Tuesday is easier for most I'm happy to do that instead although there is a risk I'll end up working late and may not make it.

suemays · 04/11/2011 19:28

Forgot to say that some of the posts on here make me laugh so much and cheer me up so much!!

So who else is on the 2ww? I am so impatient and keep looking for signs too! Reading on what everyone has said though, it seems the preds have surpressed it. I also wonder if we SWI'd enough too. Maybe I should have worn more socks in bed!!!

suemays · 04/11/2011 19:23

Hi to all the newbies! I still can't believe how many of us are on here now. It takes ages to go through the posts after only a few days!

I would love to meet up but I am about an hour away from central London by train. Maybe we should have 2 - one for the 'burbs and one for central London? Not sure where everyone is out of town but I am near High Wycombe in Bucks so would be happy to drive to anywhere in Bucks, Berks, Oxfordshire and West London etc.

I was surprised that the preds delayed my OV seeing as it was my first month of taking them. I took them on day 11 as wasn't sure when my OV was happening (I wasn't temping or using OPKs that month) and was eager to start. I probably should have waited until I saw a peak on my CBFM but was too impatient!!!! My DH was away last month when I eventually OVd anyway so it was a waste of taking the preds.

Ari - I am not convinced the CBFM works that well which is why I am temping and using OPKs too.

Butler at the cocoon house sounds great - can he look like Bradley Cooper too???!

Well done on the scans again ladies.

ChoccyPud · 04/11/2011 18:48

I can do either that Sat or Tues evening. :)
