TTC/ pregnancy on Prednisolone or similar part 2

Starting up part 2 of this thread since the old one closed at 1000 posts!

iggi lots of luck for today, hope it's nothing - I know it doesn't help but I know lots of women have spotting and/or bleeding in pregnancy and it still goes ok. Definitely call the EPU, get scanned - it's worth it, honestly, at least you will know one way or another. Virtual hugs coming your way.

free I also started AF properly this morning, so looks like we may be both importuning a friendly witch for a good fertility spell on Hallowe'en? I know exactly what you mean about the scary stuff ... a small part of me was actually sort of relieved when I didn't get a BFP purely because it means I don't have to go through the whole worrying about miscarrying all over again. Bizarre, but there it is.

Am pouring over that DPO testing list that Snoopy reposted and thinking for Cheerful 10DPO is really still very early to be getting such positives so that's surely a good thing? I am probably around 13DPO and a good 32% of people don't even get a positive at that stage so i guess that means something too. Or does it. I have no idea really.

Ah, sorry Choccy, I only read your msg after I got off the phone (had to go into a private little office to make the call, as I work in an open-plan office). Call them now, they were really helpful 01372 738 938 .

Arianrhod · 15/11/2011 13:40

Well I took your advice free and just called NLC, I'm going at 10:30 tomorrow. Choccy I might see you there?! And I had the exact same response .. I just messaged my DP and said I have to see Mr S on Wed 7th Dec for scan at 7 weeks, assuming we get that far. Same level of non-optimism right here.

OP posts:
ChoccyPud · 15/11/2011 13:37

Wow.. Yay free!!! I'm all welled up here. I'm kinda glad we're all panicking, iykwim, I feel less stupid doing so myself now. Am calmer than earlier tho now I've spoken to the office.

Ari they fax NLC who then call to arrange intralipids. Can you mention you know someone else is also waiting to hear if they call you/you speak to them?! I'll do the same. Whoever said to chase is right I think. Just getting a date will calm us down a bit. I'm seeing S on 3rd Dec assuming it sticks til then. There I go already being optimistic... :(

Thanks for all the congrats and the comments about faint bfp lines. Typical for us to already be worrying we aren't pg "enough"! If we hit it with everything asafp at least we won't look back and say "what if..."

Ari let me know when you get your intralipids appointment.

digitalgirl · 15/11/2011 13:36

Congrats to free!!! Lines are always faint this early on, it's hard but try not to compare to your last pg.

I know you're all incredibly nervous ladies but today is a good day!

Oh my, three bfps in one day! Congrats. X3!! I can't believe such good news in one day :-)

For those worried about faint lines, remember in terms of hcg your urine is a few days behind, first it is detectable in the blood, the 2-3 days for the kidneys to process it in the urine.

My line is getting darker but still fairly faint on the Cheapies which ate actually the most sensitive. I had a blood hcg done Sunday at 10 dpo and another this morning which came back at 48 and 154 so I'm happy to go ahead with the intralipids. No idea how much I will have to fork out for all this but I'm find out soon as I'm just off to the hospital now. I'm really nervous :-(

Iggi- well done on the 12 weeks!!!

Free- the hospital here wouldn't do the intralipid without a doc from the hospital writing out the prescription. There's no way I could use Dr S's prescription here even if he'd signed it. Might be worth checking it out. When are you back in the Uk?

cherrycheeks · 15/11/2011 13:22

OMG ladies 3 Bfp's today!! That's fantastic.. Woo-hoo!
Congratulations to you all!

snoopygirl · 15/11/2011 13:17

Here's the list that free posted. Shows you that even thou Dr S says do a 10 day test that it is still hit and miss at that stage. That's a bit dodgy isn't it when you could stop taking the pred at 10dpo and you could still get a positive? Anyway lets just revel in the brilliant news..

DPO & % of women who get BFP on that day:

10dpo 35%
11dpo 51%
12dpo 62%
13dpo 68%
14dpo 74%
15dpo 80%
16dpo 88%
17dpo 92%

snoopygirl · 15/11/2011 13:08

Can't believe this thread today!!!!! Shock free omg! that's amazing hope it keeps getting darker, get the drugs down you quick. Don't know how long you are there for but hope you have Intralipids sorted.

ari phone again your paying for it at the end of the day and even if you weren't like you say if it's that important should be arranging for you soon as.

God, I'm so happy for everyone on here and I don't even know you! Welling up now...is that the pred makin me a soppy cow? Smile

freelancegirl · 15/11/2011 13:06

Aaaaarrrggghhhh indeed!

I think you will be in tomorrow Ari as they organise it really quickly. I think when I organised it last time I actually then called NLC directly and arranged a time so you might want to try that if you haven't already done so.

Choccy did you get an appointment?

Cheerful emailed me the prescription they emailed her - it's not signed or anything so I hope it's ok to use here. Wonder how much it will be. I asked the clinic for it twice last week and they never got back to me. Might have to give them a call in a bit and see if they can email me a signed one with my name on it.

Just to also add a huge congratulations to iggi for the 12 weeks mark too!

Havingkittens · 15/11/2011 13:00

Bloody hell, it's an epidemic! Well done free.

If you weren't pregnant though I might have to slap you with a fish for your "It can't be good news can it?" remark. Lots of people only get a feint line at 14dpo. Wasn't it even you who posted the table of percentages of people who got a BPF at varying dpo? There is every reason this could actually work out ok. Try not to worry too much. (You can tell it's been a year since I was last pregnant with remarks like that!)

I'm flapping a bit because a feint line has come up on my OPK and my GP hasn't yet got the letter from St Helier with my new treatment prescription. It had bloody better turn up by the time I've ovulated, that's all I can say!

Arianrhod · 15/11/2011 12:59

Woohoo free, that's three of us all today!! I can understand your concern being over in LA and all, but def. kick in the 40mg pred and intralipids as soon as you can.

I still haven't heard from the clinic, so I'm presuming I won't be in tomorrow. I may be super-impatient and phone Mr S's secretary again in an hour or so, I'm surprised I haven't heard back yet.

And I'm with you on the "why the heck do these things have to be faint", all it does is make you doubt the positivity of the things. Hence why I will be testing, testing, testing again. However ... yes, it can be good news and hopefully is - remember many ladies don't get positives at all until after their AF is due.

May I just say on behalf of the three of us ... Aaaaarrrggghhhh!

OP posts:
freelancegirl · 15/11/2011 12:48

So.

It's 4am LA time - couldn't sleep, did a test...

....and a very, very, very, very faint positive from me too.

Haven't even been able to get through to DH yet to tell him. It can't be good news can it? Why does the f*cking thing have to be so bloody faint?! It's definitely there though. I wasn't charting this month but it is 14 days since the first day I felt a few ovary twinges (felt them the next day too and light cramps, bloating the day after) and 13 days since I started the Pred.

Not quite sure what to do now. Kick in the intralipids/40mg Pred? I guess I have no choice.

I feel bad that DH doesn't know yet (he's at work and busy) but I felt I needed to come and speak to you lot too!

Ari they can arrange intralipids pretty quickly so I imagine you will be in there tomorrow. I am very much with you and Choccy about the mentalling. Actually I don't even feel scared or nervous yet. I just don't feel like it is actually real. Or that anything will actually come of it. I have got pregnant easily before (again that ominous faint positive) and it all it seems to prove is am fertile and deadly (great name for a band by the way...?).

Hmmm. 4.45am. Guess I need to neck some 40mg Pred and a Hydroxychloroquinine.

Arianrhod · 15/11/2011 12:02

Thanks guys ... I'm not excited at all, I'm bl**dy terrified :( And the thought of the cyclogest ...err ... insertions?! aren't filling me full of delight either!

Preg ladies, can I ask, at what point did you have your first intralipids? And how quickly did the clinic come back to you with an appt? Naively I rather thought I'd have a call from them this morning, if it's supposed to be that urgent to have the first one as close to BFP as possible, but I haven't heard anything yet. I spoke to Mr S's secretary about 9:15 this morning, I thought the clinic would have called me by now?

iggi Lots of luck for your NT/dating scan tomorrow ... that always used to be my biggest fear (because of my age) ... now, I'll just wait to see if I even get that far!!

OP posts:
snoopygirl · 15/11/2011 11:07

Ari brilliant news so excited for you. good luck and try to stay calm if that's possible. That's 3 bfp's in the last few days!! The list is almost balanced I think?!

iggi congrats on reaching 12 weeks it's a real milestone and I know you'll be dreading it but wishing you all the best for your scan tomorrow and let us know how you get on. x

Havingkittens · 15/11/2011 11:04

Congratulations Ari. Blimey, so that's 3 more to add to the list this month!

iggi, the 3rd I mentioned was a baby, not a miscarriage. I was really confused by reading duggs' post because what I read was "most carry 1st pregnancy to term on treatment, some have 2nd, no 3rds so far" so I thought she meant successes rather than MCs. But then I've seen comments relating to that post referring to MCs so not sure which way it was meant now! Anyway, what I was trying to relay was that I know of a couple who have, after several miscarriages, had their 3rd baby on the treatment (but I think they did have a couple of MCs in between pregnancies, also on the treatment).

digitalgirl · 15/11/2011 11:01

Flippn 'eck ari as well! Congrats to you too! Get those intralipids booked ladies! Grin

iggi999 · 15/11/2011 10:53

Brilliant, 2 bfp's!

I know it's a long scary journey, but it's good to be back on the road again.
I am 12 weeks today. No bleeding or bad pains, so a normal person would be feeling pretty good now! I'm viewing today as my last day to 'enjoy' being pg before the dating/NT scan tomorrow. I've dodged so many bullets this time I can't believe my luck will hold again.
Re the 3 mc on treatment, don't forget the treatment will have no impact on chromosomal abnormalities which must account for a lot of mc.

ChoccyPud · 15/11/2011 10:32

Yay Ari that's fabulous!!! You've inspired me to call the office to get an intralipids appt. That's got to be right hasn't it let's throw all we can at it - even -as I type the little buggers are probably trying to mess things up. Right. Gonna go call now.

Bricking it is frankly an understatement. :(

Arianrhod · 15/11/2011 10:15

Oh, and choccy ... I will definitely be testing tomorrow ... and the day after ... and if the last pregnancy is anything to go by, probably every day for the next week! AF isn't due until Fri, and I'm very much aware of the early miscarriage I had in February (where the lines remained faint for just under a week then turned to BFN immediately followed by MC). Last pregnancy in May I didn't even tell DP for a week after I'd got my first BFP because I wanted to wait to see if it turned out to be another early miscarriage ...

So a-testing I shall be, for at least the next week!

OP posts:
Arianrhod · 15/11/2011 10:12

Morning all ... choccy huge congratulations on that line, and you know what, that's two of us this morning then ... ok, I caved and tested at 11dpo (mostly, I have to say, not to see a BFP but so that I could stop taking the pred), and got the same as you, a faint but definite line. And I'm now absolutely bricking it :( I've started the 40mg pred, and already spoken to Mr S's secretary, got appt with Mr S for 7th December and waiting for NLC to call me with an appt for the intralipids.

I have to say I did initially think perhaps I should wait until next week to even start thinking about intralipids but then I thought, no, I'd determined to throw everything I can at the next pregnancy because it may well be my last, so blow it, I can always cancel the appt if it's not needed. At least if anything goes wrong (when?) it won't be because I didn't do things soon enough. If that makes sense to anyone!

Nervous as hell and worried to bits, I'm just scared here it starts all over again. Hope you can't get a MC from negative thoughts!!

/waves to everyone, hope you're all doing great, and I'll have a more coherent posting later once my brain has (hopefully) settled down a bit.

OP posts:
Havingkittens · 15/11/2011 09:49

Congratulations Choccy. I'd say go onto the 40mg Preds for sure. A line is a line after all, and also you want to be doing as much as you can to ensure the line gets darker and the bean sticks!

Suemays I guess you've resigned yourself to a BFN by now but I just wanted to say that my AF has been super short and light whilst on Pred. 2 days of spotting has been pretty much the norm for me. My most normal period all year has been the last one, which was after 2 months off the Pred.

free, and anyone else actually that's baffled by a BFN after much 'activity' felt a week after OV. I only started noticing this since being on Pred but after much Googling, every month, it seems pretty common for people to have cramping at around 7dpo. I have no idea why it happens but it's happened every month, without fail, apart from during the 2 month break. Curious!

coley I was on Pred for 6 months before they told me to take a break.

duggs, re you quote from Louise about no 3rd babies on the treatment so far, I know of someone who's had their 3rd quite recently on the treatment. Maybe not with Mr S though, I'm not sure.

Lovely to hear of all the progress with the scans. Time seems to go so quickly when you're looking at other people's updates. Weird that when you are the pregnant one it feels like suspended animation!

coconut &iggi, good luck with your scans. brownie how did yours go yesterday?

snoopygirl · 15/11/2011 09:24

Yee Haa choccypud!! Fantastic news.. won't advise on anything as just started using the dreaded pred but I;m sure the others will advise. Good luck to you and bring on some more BFP's!

Duggs Does your OH watch all those other crap channel 5 films too at night? There usually headed up something like...Robot Death Race Wars or some other highly intellectual title. Starring that versatile actor Jason Statham or the like. hehe

digitalgirl · 15/11/2011 09:01

choccy yay!! My fr line was quite faint till about a week or two after af was late - don't worry about that. If you got a smiley face 14 days ago you're still only 13dpo today.

stogan I had swollen feet and legs when pg with ds. Hasn't got bad yet, am hoping the colder weather will help. Feeling rather positive about it all. Was hoping to relax a bit more into this part, but just keep waiting for more defined movements and wishing the weeks away.

duggs good luck with the cycle monitoring.
