Another thread for those who are waiting to try for a baby. It doesn't matter how long or short the wait; why you are waiting; or how many DC you have. All are welcome.

Old thread here.

awayinamanger i think i qualify for MP mid-April and my cycle predicts ovulation in early May...happy to have found someone else on the May boat Smile

Strange... I never felt this strong urge to start a family up until the last few months. its just taken over. I like babies but at the same time I am very non-maternal (not yet changed a nappy -eeek!) and this time last year was terrified at the prospect of having one and now I just have this mad obsession of charting, calculating the months (same as you stuckinthefens), dreaming about my own little family and lurking on this forum :)

Ratata · 27/11/2011 19:49

Thanks awayinamangercooper

Good luck to all when the time comes :)

xxx

Awayinamangercooper · 27/11/2011 19:00

redstrawberry me and you both! Except I have to wait till May.

redstrawberry · 27/11/2011 18:28

I am really pleased for you zara looks like you are going to have your hands full and a very exciting December. Haha make sure you get these favours returned and more when you fall pregnant Grin

I had a chat with DH this weekend and I think we both agree it will make sense to stick to the new job (maybe I am not giving myself enough time to settle in) and then yes start a family. Have to wait till April as I will then be eligible for the maternity pay. I have started a slow cycle count down! 5 cycles to go :)

CEDR · 27/11/2011 14:53

Zara- good luck! I'm nervous of the idea that your "DH" isn't ready for it without demands, I hope it's all in jest!

I would never try to persuade or force OH into TTC, but then I know that I'm young enough to have a bit of time left to wait and I'm luckily not obsessed. Well, only obsessed since we agreed to ttc! :-S

Awayinamangercooper · 27/11/2011 02:17

Ratata thanks for waiting with us and good luck with the TTC - and congratulations on the wedding!

Ratata · 27/11/2011 01:59

waves goodbye I've been more of a reader than a poster here, now waving goodbye as we started TTC on our honeymoon (just back 2 days ago) even though we had planned for December. Wishing all the luck to everyone for when they start :) xxx

nenehooo · 26/11/2011 23:03

Ah zara brilliant news that hubby's on board... I've been charting this month, and think i'm ovulating so last night I let my hubby know, joking that we should get some practise in. He didn't take it too well - so looks like I'll have to use all my wiley feminine charms when the time comes!!! Away I also see what you're saying, I was worried when my hubby proposed that he was doing it out of duress because I wanted to get married so much and had the same fears about telling him I wanted babies. In the end all it took was for me to tell him what I wanted and when and give him a financial breakdown - not much then! But that is how he sees things so it was necessary. But still, it does sometimes feel like we're held to ransom over our hormonal urges and that's unfair.

Awayinamangercooper · 26/11/2011 20:56

I mean if that's something you're happy with, or if that was the plan anyway, by all means go ahead. Just throwing it out there.

Awayinamangercooper · 26/11/2011 20:49

Aren't you sending the message that DC are 100% your project, rather than a joint one? I'd be worried he'd constantly be opting out of the nightfeeds and nappies saying "well you wanted a baby, this was your idea" etc.

Zara1984 · 26/11/2011 18:45

Awayinamanger probably only half-joking Wink

The chores and dessert are limited to December only.... Hey, I can handle that! When I was between jobs I took on the full-time domestic goddess role so it's nothing new. On holiday for part of December anyway.

As for naming rights... DH is very particular and forthright when it comes to this. He'd never allow our kids to be named something he 100% loved anyway, so it's a moot point. We've already got a list. This is the man who insisted on seeing my wedding dress before I bought it, and will tell me outright if he doesn't like my outfit. He's lovely and perfect for me - but my friends are constantly shocked because he doesn't buy into the concept of female sensitivities Grin

Awayinamangercooper · 26/11/2011 18:38

Zara in case you are not joking and surely you are, aren't you a bit worried about what are you setting yourself up for? It's not just December you have to worry about!

Zara1984 · 26/11/2011 16:32

redstrawberry sorry to hear about your job problems - I've been through that kind of switch myself! Don't want to stir but is there any way you can go back to your old workplace? Or will sticking it out at your new place until you go on maternity leave be good career-wise (and then move on to somewhere else when you want to go back to work, if that's possibly timing/financially-wise?)?

jobcar You've got DH on board - that's the biggest obstacle over! Soon you'll have the wedding planning occupying your every thought... so probably good to wait until AFTER the big day to TTC! And it means that you have an extra incentive NOT to blow all your loot on the wedding (which, from experience, is an easy thing to do)! :)

Ok some updates for my situation... we are going to start TTC in December!!! How do these schedule changes keep happening you may ask?? I'm worse than Ryanair!! Well... mostly I keep getting over babycracked out and plead my case to DH. To get to starting TTC next month though, have had to make the following concessions for the month of December:

  • I do ALL of household chores next month
  • change kitty litter every day (wearing gloves and maybe a mask for baby-safety reasons - and as soon as I do get pg it is back to being his chore!)
  • I make him his favourite dessert every weekend until the end of the year (starting this weekend)
  • He gets full naming rights on DC#1. In fairness he'd probably get the final decision about a baby name anyway as he's much more fussy about those kind of things than me.

Ladies, what have I done?!?!? I've signed myself up for a whole lot of work in December! But I'm ECSTATIC and I think it's worth it (ask me again in a few weeks' time...)! I think I made a good deal.... Grin

Booked flights to Australia and NZ in late March and I have every appendage crossed tightly that I will have exciting news for friends and family by then.... come on CBFM, work your magic!!

JobCarHouseNoBaby · 26/11/2011 12:11

Hi all

Can I re-join? I have posted from time to time on one of the old waiting threads but the broodiness is hitting home big time at the moment so need a bit of support...

We're getting married in October 2012 and basically as soon as we have paid for that we can start TTC!! Even DP has agreed, and keeps saying things like "only 2 more Christmases to go then we'll have our own little family" and "can we go look in babiesRus at how much prams are?"....!!!

Thing is, now he's actually decided he can't wait for kids either, we're both just as bad as eachother pining at home for baby, going gooey over baby-stuff on TV, getting rosey-eyed at baby's first Christmas.... There's no way I could walk up the aisle pg, but we might just try for a honeymoon baby!!!

Not sure whether I can wait that long, good luck to all you other waiters who are watching the clock tick slowly...

redstrawberry · 25/11/2011 23:20

hi - sorry I have been trying to staying off this thread to stop the constant brooding. Probably not the right thread for this post as its not so much to do with ttc.

I'm having a bad week and just needed to get it out of my system.I used to work in an excellent company with very nice people for the past 4 years, but the job was not the right fit for me. So I changed jobs and found my dream job at a very reputed company, but sadly after a month there discovering that the job is good but the people and culture not so good. I miss my friends and colleagues at my old job :'( feel very isolated and lost at new place.

On the other hand I am feeling very very baby obsessed but we have to financially wait till March / April. Walked into Mothercare today to get a pressie for a 1yr old and just looking around made the babycrack addiction worse.....Just wish all the pieces would fall into place - roll on 2012. Cracking open some vino! I can't believe I am actually looking forward to taking Folic Acid....never thought I'd feel this obsessed.

Awayinamangercooper · 25/11/2011 18:52

StuckintheFens that is exactly the same as our situation, we've booked a trip to the States to drive the route from LA to Vegas, to the Grand Canyon and then up through the National Parks to San Francisco in May. It coincides with the date I'll qualify for additional maternity pay in my new job.

MN is such a good place to share and vent. This thread has been fantastic.

StuckInTheFensAwayFromHome · 25/11/2011 11:10

AwayInAManger its been a dream for ages - to get good at snowboarding and the only way is an intense period on snow. Not gonna have the opportunity (time or money!) to do that with a bunch of kids so we are gonna do it this winter.

Mentally I so want to to be pregnant now! but I know in the long run as a couple we need to do this trip before family - otherwise we'd regret it/find it hard (read impossible!) in the future.

Its such an eyeopener reading these forums and finding people in similar(ish) predicaments to me about needing to wait but bursting to do it now!
I'd never been massively driven to have a family and after a few bad relationship experiences and my age (36) had kind of written it off. Then I met my boyfriend and have been astonished at how strong that biological urge is. What made me realise its what I really want is when we had a bit of an unplanned pregnancy scare - I was so devastated when my late period eventually arrived - it shocked both of us that it was the overriding emotion.
So its great to find this place - I can vent my broodiness here and give my boyfriend a bit of space!

CEDR · 25/11/2011 09:38

My brain is totally taken up with baby thoughts. Haven't spent much time with my OH this week, so when I have its been all baby baby baby! He's fine about it though as it was his decision to ttc!

Been 2 weeks off the Depo and my hormones are s bit haywire! Was on the pill for 8.5 yrs and then Depo for 1.5 yrs so my body is s bit confused. Had 2 weeks of period pains and been feeling very fuzzy and weird for a couple I'd days! I hope it all settles down soon so we can ttc!

Awayinamangercooper · 25/11/2011 07:36

*month

Awayinamangercooper · 25/11/2011 07:35

StuckintheFens a two week holiday? Wow!

Awayinamangercooper · 25/11/2011 07:33

Veni for me it's the sheer number of people who go from not thinking about TTC at all to trying straight away - or at least that seems to happen for a lot of people. Both partners are just spontaneously ready and on board out of nowhere, and before I know it I'm reading their birth story.

MrsTwinks · 24/11/2011 22:50

you should point out to DP that when the cat is 8 it will still be pooing in a box and making you clean it, demanding to be fed, open doors etc, while an 8yr old kid can flush the loo, open a packet of crisps as well as doors and whats more should be capable of making him a cuppa/getting him a beer from the fridge. It worked on my mum :P

seriously it sucks when they are like that, hopefully he will come arround

Evilwater · 24/11/2011 20:13

Hello everyone,
Hello newbies, welcome to the mad world of waiting to ttc.
I tryed talking to my DP, about a baby. The answer I got was and I quote
"get a cat"

Lw

StuckInTheFensAwayFromHome · 24/11/2011 18:54

hello - another new joiner here!
Am broody as hell but have to wait till March... Its a good reason though - we're heading on a 'last opportunity' type of holiday in February for 2 months - and as its physical (snowboarding) I wouldn't be able to go if pregnant... So halfway through the holiday we are going to stop being careful and take it from there.
But because its on my mind I've been looking and lurking on this site so hello everyone!!!
Am I also completely mad (or obsessed!!!) that I keep counting out - if it happens in March we get a christmas baby, if its April its a January baby and so on!!! I realise its a bit crazy because these things aren't always straightforward... but somehow I can't stop myself

MrsTwinks · 24/11/2011 09:22

zara good luck at the doctors. Very tempted to change mine as they've cocked up my Rubella blood test so after a month of appointments and them messing up still no idea. Feeling a bit dejected, surely this part shouldn't be so hard right?
