Hey guys!! Have taken the big step of coming of the Pill to TTC another DC. This will be DC number 2 - already have DS who is 15 months old and a DSD who is 7 years. We have spoken about another baby for a while now but it has now become more of a reality now that we have decided to stop using any contraception!! I am so so excited but know all too well about this horrible waiting game of patience which seems to get worse even after a BFP as then it's the painful wait for a 12 week scan!! (although this time I may pay for a private scan) I have had a MC before DS was born so am also aware of not getting to ahead of myself...but I'm so excited nonetheless!! I bought my friend a little present for her brand new (with tags on) baby girl and was so so broody. Cant wait for my turn now!!

Sorry for the long warbling post. This is such a hard time, the pre TTC, the waiting for BFP or BFN etc etc...I am the most impatient person in the world as it is...and to not to be able to tell anyone in RL makes it even harder!!

Hope there will be some ladies in the same boat as me!! Look forward to meeting u and sharing journeys!!

Lots of love, Pip xx

I'm taking folic acid and zinc and DP is taking zinc. I've not got much of idea what it's meant to do apart from it's "good" and DP seems to think zinc is a bit like Viagra

cherrypiew3 · 20/10/2011 20:45

CUP i have told one friend in rl and she was [hshock] that we are ttc again and asked why when we already have 3.

Have any of you started to take folic acid or anything like that yet?

CupOfBrownJoy · 20/10/2011 10:14

Has anyone told people in rl that they are ttc?

I talked to my mum about the possibility before we decided to go ahead, but haven't mentioned anything since. I told my friend but she is now trying to dissuade me, which is really annoying tbh. The issue is that DP and I aren't married and she thinks we are "rushing".

That has rather put me off discussing it with anyone else, and really its only mine and DP's business anyway....

He's buying zinc today

cherrypiew3 · 19/10/2011 21:49

vino You seem to have the same worries i do, i have 3dc and worry about the effect another baby will have on them. How old are you other dc mine are 9,7 and 5. I also think along the lines of i have 3 healthy children and would we be tempting fate i mentioned this to dh the other night and his replied to this with i think you are thinking about all this to much lets just get on with it.

fishpants Like you say there are lots of different family units. Baby will be loved and thats all that mattersSmile Dont want to be nosey so dont answer if you dont want to but have you told your family. I have not mentioned anything to anybody that we are ttc #4. When we told family we were ttc#3 we had lots of issues and people trying to change are minds this time i am keeping quite untill we are pg that way if anyones says anything to us it will be to late to care.

kirrinIsland · 19/10/2011 16:57

For me it's definitely the long termness - it pretty much the only decision you make in life where there is no going back. I worry about how it will be having 2, but I know I want more than one so I'm just trusting that it'll all work out fine!

fishpants I think it a line doesn't count for anything on an opk unless it is darker than the control line, but don't quote me on that :).

Fishpants · 19/10/2011 13:53

Oh, little update - did my first OPK today. The 'test' line was fainter than the 'reference' line which is supposed to indicate a definitive NO but I'm having a little test anxiety [hgrin] ... does the faintness of the line mean it's on its way? GAH!

Fishpants · 19/10/2011 13:52

I worry about so many things - stigma attached to single parenting, more so from my family than anyone else. Money, as golden said, I worry about not being able to afford lots of things, but there are so many more important things in this life than money.

I worry about the baby - will he/she be angry that I didn't give him/her 2 parents instead of one? Hopefully as baby grows, they will understand that families are made of many different cohesive elements and some are different than others. But I still worry [hsad]

And, like Cup the sheer LONG-TERM ness. 18+ years of living at home for a start...

Goldenbrown1981 · 19/10/2011 12:52

Money. I have no idea how much a baby costs (I'm fairly sure it's a LOT) and I'm so worried about how we will cope, but we will. Belts will be tightened etc. I figure if we wait until we have enough spare cash then we will wait forever

Vinolover · 19/10/2011 10:11

I think there are many aspects to be scared of.
For many having their first baby it's the unknown. For me personally I worry about how my children will like having a little brother or sister (especially as the're older), I also worry that because I already have two healthy children im scared im tempting fate ( I had this fear with #2 also). Then I worry about money and what happens if something goes wrong and we have another mouth to feed.
The one thing I I don't fear this time, which I know many women do when expecting #2, is worrying I won't love the next baby as much as the first because I know there is enough love to go round :)
Xx

CupOfBrownJoy · 19/10/2011 06:17

ok so, just out of interest, what's the scary bit for everyone?

I think for me it is just the sheer responsibility and long-termness of the decision.

It just feels like the most important decision I'll ever make, but I'm going ahead because I can't imagine NOT having children, and if my little brother (ok he's 32 Blush) can cope, then frankly so can anyone!

Fishpants · 18/10/2011 21:40

I'm also very scared - especially as I'll be going it alone, as such. I've always been a firm believer of the camp that 1 supportive, loving, stable parent is better than 2 unloving and unstable parents...now that I've finally decided to take the plunge (there were a lot of uhm's and ahh's for over a year) it feels scary.

But I have to just trust that if it was meant to be, it will be, and I know I'll be the best mommy ever of course [hwink]. As my cycle's been irregular I'm supposed to start testing with OPK's on Day 10 but think I'm going to wait til Day 12 as they've been longer rather than shorter lately and don't want to waste the expensive things.

cherrypiew3 · 18/10/2011 20:21

Evening Ladies

Well glad i am not the only one that has cold feet, it is a very strange feeling. I am very excited though and wish you ladies lots of luckSmile

Tequilamockinbat · 18/10/2011 17:43

I'm pleased somebody mentioned fear, I have that aswell. AF was a couple of days late last month and I was really scared but excited at the same time.

I didn't have this with DD as I was a few months PG before I found out.

It's certainly a strange feeling!

CupOfBrownJoy · 18/10/2011 12:36

well said, Vino.

My first reaction when DP and I agreed to ttc was fear! DP was just excited and couldn't understand why I was so scared!! I have a feeling this is because he hasn't really comprehended what he's let himself in for (yet!) Smile

Thanks for all the answers to my question, and thanks for the link, Caffeine. I'm quite lazy about jumping straight in the shower (not very romantic!) so now I think that's probably a good thing as it gives the little swimmers more time!

DP can't believe his luck at the moment - I'm due to be at my most fertile from tomorrow to Monday, so I've been insatiably trying to get as much practising done as possible! He's not complaining... Blush

Welcome to MN and onto the bus, Fishpants!

Good luck to everyone for this week...

Vinolover · 18/10/2011 09:30

Hi Cherrypie

I know exactly how you feel about cold feet! I desperatly want this but im also very scared about the whole thing. I think it just shows the amount of thought you're putting into this and not just jumping in both feet first.

Good luck to you!
Xx

cherrypiew3 · 17/10/2011 21:17

Hi can i join you Ladies please.
Today is the last day of AF i think and the pill went into the bin yesterday morning. I am 30 and will be ttc #4 for the moment i am just going to take a relaxed approach to things. I have 32/33 day cycle but last time i came off the pill my cycles went all over the place so who knows.

Although i am very very happy about ttc #4 i thought dh would never want anymore but after a 3 month scare last christmas we also realised are little family was not really done. But i do have moments where i get cold feet does anybody else feel like this?

kirrinIsland · 17/10/2011 19:50

I will be using opks. I also don't know the length of my cycle so will start on day 11 but keep going a bit longer to cover all possibilities.

Tequilamockinbat · 17/10/2011 19:02

Hi Fishpants and welcome to MN Smile

I haven't ventured into the world of OPK's yet but might do after Christmas if still no BFP! Keep us updated

Fishpants · 17/10/2011 15:37

Hi there!

I'd like to join if I could (brand new to mumsnet also btw!) - I am not on the pill but will have some hit-and-miss months I assume coming up, as I am TTC as a single mother by choice with a known donor friend. So only have 2-3 shots a month at this! Up until about 3 months ago I had super regular cycles, 30 days exact. But here lately have been 34-37 (?!) so hoping this works.

Has anyone ever used the OPK's? I bought some Clearblue (not the digitals) yesterday but not totally sure when to start testing since my cycle's been irregular. Have lined up BD for the 20, 24, and 28 so hopefully something works! Grin

Caffeinefiend · 17/10/2011 14:33

Cup apparently it doesn't affect your chances. www.webmd.com/sex-relationships/guide/birth-control-contraceptive-myths

Caffeinefiend · 17/10/2011 14:31

Vinolover I've been told that your cycles return pretty fast after it's removed. That's why they ask if you've had sex recently when they remove it because theres a small chance you could get pregnant straight away :) Good luck

Caffeinefiend · 17/10/2011 14:23

Sarah5656 Would like DS but wouldn't be upset to have another DD..suspect DH feels overwhelmed with pink and dollies though! :)
Question for anyone with experience coming off mirena:
Been off mirena for nearly 4 weeks but confused. Sorry if TMI but had massive period straight away, now feel constant nausea. Someone told me that first period after mirena is "not real period" and nausea is due to hormones adjusting, has anyone experienced this? Don't know whether to do test as it seems a bit early...

Vinolover · 17/10/2011 12:25

It's so nice to have so many other ladies to bounce off (so to speak).
I've never used an opk before but have got the digital one this time. I had my coil out on fri 7th Oct which was the weekend period was due and I had, from the sunday, the most awful bleed which seems to have gone now after a week (although still get the odd pain and spot of blood). Im hoping my cycles will return to normal strait away!
I have just purchased, for nearly £20(!!!!!), a pot of manuka honey. Lets hope all this does the trick otherwise we will have no money left for an actual baby!
OPK is still showing no surge but it's still early. Best just get the practise in ;)
Hope everybody had a good weekend. Xx

Sarah5656 · 17/10/2011 09:35

Cup the shower thing same as what Kirrin said I think it shouldn't have any affect. Maybe try a deep penetrating position Blush and then lie down for a bit before getting up to shower.

My DH has is own business but like Kirrin's it is quite established so not completely 24/7 anymore. Also like Kirrin said most appointments you probably won't feel he needs to attend like the midwife appointments. The two scan's you have you normally receive the letter in plenty of time, so the both of you should have significant time to book it off work.

kirrinIsland · 17/10/2011 09:24

cup not sure about the shower thing to be honest - I always stay laying down for a little while as I've heard that can help increase your chances, though that's possibly an old wives' tale??

My DP has his own business, though it is quite established now so doesn't take up every waking minute like it used to. TBH there is no real need for him to come to every appointment unless you'd prefer it of course - they are mostly quite dull! If he's pushed for time I'd just make sure he can get to the scans. Assuming all is well, there should only be 2 of those.

tequila got my fingers crossed
