Hey guys!! Have taken the big step of coming of the Pill to TTC another DC. This will be DC number 2 - already have DS who is 15 months old and a DSD who is 7 years. We have spoken about another baby for a while now but it has now become more of a reality now that we have decided to stop using any contraception!! I am so so excited but know all too well about this horrible waiting game of patience which seems to get worse even after a BFP as then it's the painful wait for a 12 week scan!! (although this time I may pay for a private scan) I have had a MC before DS was born so am also aware of not getting to ahead of myself...but I'm so excited nonetheless!! I bought my friend a little present for her brand new (with tags on) baby girl and was so so broody. Cant wait for my turn now!!

Sorry for the long warbling post. This is such a hard time, the pre TTC, the waiting for BFP or BFN etc etc...I am the most impatient person in the world as it is...and to not to be able to tell anyone in RL makes it even harder!!

Hope there will be some ladies in the same boat as me!! Look forward to meeting u and sharing journeys!!

Lots of love, Pip xx

Have a look on amazon. I have just managed to get 60 strips for about £10. Really good value and they should last a couple of months or so (depending on how many you use).

Good luck with the timing!

Cheeser · 30/10/2011 13:14

Thanks for the welcomes Smile

I was going to add myself to the list but not sure what to put for most of it as I've not technically had AF yet and not sure how long my cycle usually is. I came off the combined pill about 8 months ago and had 3 months off completely, my period came back 28 days after and got straight back into rhythm. Then changed to POP which I took for four months I think and now off everything. Hope it doesn't take long to settle.

It would be really good if I managed to get a due date of July as it would really fit in with work! Blush - that's one way to make sure it won't happen!!

How cheaply can you get OPKs? I am tempted to get some...

Fishkiss · 30/10/2011 13:02

Once you know the mechanics required it's actually pretty incredible that so many people manage to get the timing just right!!

Despite all my pretty good attempts at AI last week I'm not feeling very positive for some reason. Oh well, 4 more weeks and it all begins again!

Clandy · 30/10/2011 12:58

Hi cheeser!

I am jumping on the opk train and gotta get some ordered! Just got to wait for MIA af and I'm on!!! Makes sense I thought just see how it goes and if not luck after a while then opk but as someone said why wait!

Vinolover · 30/10/2011 12:33

Hi Cheeser, welcome :)
Im sure you are absolutely fine! It will probably take a while for your body to adjust after 10 years so try not to panic. It could however just happen right away. A lot of women have a 'fertility surge' after coming off the pill! Good luck to you.

Good thinking secret. You can't have too much Wink.

hello everyone... can I join?

TTC number one, never been pregnant before or ever had a "scare" so I've managed to convince myself i'll never get pregnant Hmm

Have been on the pill for about 10 years now - combined pill and most recently the POP - and came off on 9th October and haven't had a bleed yet.

We've only had sex a couple of times - wanted to just 'not not try' for a while - so almost certain nothing will have happened this month.

I'm 29 and DP are getting married in May so I'm now procrastinating over whether to buy a wedding dress now or wait until nearer the time. The dress I have fallen in love with is very unforgiving and will require big diet. Do no chance of wearing it while pregnant. Eeek!

Vinolover · 30/10/2011 12:23

Have just ordered 60 (yes 60) Ovulation test strips and a twin pack digi cb preg test for £16 with free next day delivery from Amazon!
I now have plenty of stick to pee on :) Oh, I alswo have 10 left over from my cb OPK. Should keep me going :)

CauldronOfBrownJoy · 30/10/2011 12:02

ok I'm going to do twice a day from day 10 too. Its a bit tricky to have so much swi when dp is away for most of the week. I'm trying to always do Monday night and Friday night to try and cover as much of the week as possible Blush

I can see that if OD is on a Thurs or Fri though we're not going to have much chance Sad

Fishkiss · 30/10/2011 12:00

Yes I just found out about the sperm life fairly recently. It's degenerative, so even after an hour some will have already died. After a day about a fifth have died, etc

Vinolover · 30/10/2011 11:52

Well put fish. DD being conceived on day 25 is a prime example! This is why I am using OPK this time. Ok so I have managed before without them but if my body decideds to be difficult then I want to be prepared! I will be using them twice a day from day 10 next month though just so I can be sure.

Im so glad you explaned the life span of the sperm. I knew they lived up to 5 days or so but i wasn't sure about the amount.

I think we are all a bit more prepared now!

Fishkiss · 30/10/2011 11:48

Grin I was so excited to get my positive OPK. Mine was only positive less than 24 hrs so I'd definitely recommend twice daily testing, despite the once a day official recommendation

CauldronOfBrownJoy · 30/10/2011 11:45
Fishkiss · 30/10/2011 11:42

*Better to at least SWI in the 2-3 days before ovulation not after. Sorry, I'm on my phone. Blah.

CauldronOfBrownJoy · 30/10/2011 11:41
Fishkiss · 30/10/2011 11:41

Oh bollocks forgot to write about how the OPK's work. They detect a surge of a hormone called LH, which is always present in your urine but increases dramatically in the 24-36 hrs before ovulation. So if you test twice daily at the same times then you are pretty much guaranteed to catch it. Please note some women don't have enough LH present to show up on the test even if they do ovulate so if you try it two months in a row without any positives, I'd combine it with something else like temp monitoring, etc.

It's also possible not to get a positive as not all women ovulate every month (bugger right Sad).

Ta-da!

Fishkiss · 30/10/2011 11:37

Ovulation is ideally supposed to occur midway through a cycle. Don't buy into this crap at all, as it is based on someone ovulating on day 14 of a 28 day cycle, and rarely is anyone exactly on that. That's why OPK's were invented. Even if you have a 28 day cycle there is no guarantee you will ovulate on day 14. Some women might ovulate on day 9, some wouldn't until day 20.

That being said, the period after ovulation until AF comes is fairly consistent from woman to woman. So when your cycle varies, there's still (for example) 13 days between ovulation and AF, just instead of ovulating on day 14, you might O on day 17. OPK's are useful for this, as you might not know your AF decides to be late one month til after the fact, and if you'd counted on O'ing on day 14, you could have missed it. (does this make sense??)

Now - spermies can technically love for up to 5 days, but whereas at the point of ejaculation there are around 250 million sperm, there could be just 400 left after 5 days. So it is the accepted theory to SWI every other day from about a week before expected O until day of. Once the egg is released it lives 12-24 hrs on average, so technically you could get preg if you only have sex the day of/after ovulation, but the sperm must be super awesome. It's usuallly better to SWI at least once in the 2-3 days after.

Until recently the theory of the 'every other day' was that the sperm count has time to build up on the off day. But new research has suggested the amount is negligible so as vino touched on I think one day, there is some evidence that every day is just as good if not better as every other day. More is more, so to speak.

Ahem. I am far from medically trained but I have friends in the medial profession and have read an astoundingly boring amount of material on this ... Does this help anyone?!

I have enjoyed a good waffle anyway Grin

Fishkiss · 30/10/2011 11:26

Dr Fish is in Grin writing a super long post so bear with me..

Vinolover · 30/10/2011 09:51

Good morning fish... Not cramping at the mo but still very bloated and really spotty. That's probably hormonal changes from having the coil out... I keep checking my boobs but they're only sore from me prodding them! Oops

Vinolover · 30/10/2011 09:48

Sorry for your bfn tequila. It took until I was 6 days late until I got a positive with ds and that was a regular 28 day cycle. With dd, although I didn't get a positive for about 10 days I found out from an early scan (had bleeding) that I hadn't o'ed until about day 25!! Again,I was having 28 day cycles. Did you do any opk? (I can't keep up with the thread lol).

Minky I'm sure you are making the right decision. Remember you're going into the unknown and it's bloody scary!

CauldronOfBrownJoy · 30/10/2011 09:46

That would be a lovely option too tequila, but DB is disabled and can't travel Sad.

I'm actually having to hold myself back from organising it all straight away. We're not going to do it until next summer sometime, and with it being so small it could be organised in a day! I bloody love planning though Blush

How far ahead do you normally book a registry office?

wannabemum24 · 30/10/2011 09:45

Sounds like we are in the same boat, Cherry. As far as I know, once you have ovulated that's it and generally, during the 2ww you can't get pg. It is a fairly small window which is why opk's can be so useful. My DH isn't too keen on opk's yet, only because he wants to take things slow and see what happens. I know when I am due to ovulate so I will be jumping on him morning and evening around that time!!!!

Tequilamockinbat · 30/10/2011 09:39

I'm trying to stay positive, as still no AF. She should've been here by now Confused

Re weddings, DH and I got married this year but we went abroad to do it. I can't be doing with big white weddings and stuff either so we went for a 2 week holiday with very close family and got married there! There were 14 of us in total, it was perfect, I would definitely recommend it to anyone. Didn't even have to plan anything as the wedding co-ord did it all! We just took dress, suit and rings and they did the rest.

Sarah I'm sorry to see you got a BFN today aswell Sad, we'll just have to try again in a couple of days Smile

CauldronOfBrownJoy · 30/10/2011 09:36

sorry about the BFNs tequila and sarah Sad. Try to stay positive.

CauldronOfBrownJoy · 30/10/2011 09:33

Morning Minky - intersting points in your last couple of posts.

I totally get the "not being maternal" thing, but I do think its an age thing too. I was completely uninterested in all babies and children, then I amazed myself 3 years ago by doing some work in a primary school and loving it. I'm now a year 2 teacher! I seem to be able to communicate well with the children in school and that's given me more confidence to go on and have my own.

I still don't get babies at all though, tbh. I love my new baby niece, the only bby in our family, but I live in a different country so her being around hasn't given me any more direct hands on experience with babies iyswim. If someone from work brings their baby in, no part of me wants to hold it and I really don't have anything to say to/about it! I see the baby stage as being necessary to get to the interesting stage I think... though of course I'll love my own.

Meeting dp has been a massive part of it too. I couldn't do what fish is doing on my own - I just don't think I would be bothered enough to go through it. No offence at all meant to fish, I think you're amazing for taking the decision and going ahead! But for me, dp is far broodier than I am and I don't think I would have had the confidence to go for it if he wasn't behind me all the way (and in front of me most of the time!)

Regarding weddings - as I got engaged on Thursday that's definitely occupying my mind at the moment! I hate weddings, all that fuss and stress and money and public displays of lurve. Eugh. But we can't elope as DM would kill me. So I think we'll have his immediate family, mine, 2 friends as witnesses... about 15 in total. Registry office then pub, I'll wear a dress, something special but not long and white. Its definitely possible to get married without buying into all that wedding crap (again, no offence to anyone who had this, its just not my "thing"). The only problem I can foresee is preventing DM from going totally overboard... Smile

Wow sorry for the mega post, but what you wrote really got me thinking!! Blush
