IQ that's great! So happy for you that DH is home Grin

MyDaydream sorry about AF, on to the next cycle - positive thinking all the way Smile

Well just wanted to check in to tell you all about my clinic visit really. I saw the consultant this afternoon, DH came too. It was certainly £175 very well spent indeed. He was incredibly knowledgeable about PCOS, and he explained what the latest research was etc etc. He spoke at length about how PCOS isn't really to do with your ovaries at all but rather a problem that causes cysts on your ovaries as a symptom IYSWIM. Apparently the latest thinking is that it is all to do with insulin. Anyway don't want to bore you silly with the science of it so I'll get straight to the ttc relevant bits.

He told me that miscarriage rates for women with PCOS are 30-40% (as opposed to 15% for women who don't have it) and again this is thought to be due to problems related to insulin. He also said that egg quality is an issue, especially with late ovulation.

Anyway, long story short he has prescribed Metformin (a drug which is primarily used for diabetics apparently) which I have started on today, and he has given me Clomid to start on CD2 of next cycle if we don't manage it this time around (in addition to the metformin). He also said that I should stay on the metformin until at least 12 weeks if when I do get pg again.

I can't tell you how wonderful it is to have spoken with someone who knows what they are talking about and who was so positive about my chances of conceiving (and holding on to) our next baby. I was not expecting him to be able to give us a plan of action that could start so soon, without hundreds of tests etc but as I had already been diagnosed a couple of years ago by a different private consultant where we used to live (I brought him a copy my previous notes) he said that it would be unnecessary. I was so relieved - I hate blood tests....

So here we are - plan is metformin this cycle - he hopes it will start to work immediately so I should have ovulation at a reasonably normal time (he reckons in about 10 days time which would be CD20, much more normal than previously), then Clomid and Metformin next time around if unsuccessful, with a scan on CD10 to monitor the effect of the Clomid. Then a scan at 6.5 weeks when pg to check all is well.

Oh and one last thing - he was very pro Bvit complex... Smile but I may stop the agnus castus in case it interferes with anything.

and breathe......so sorry that was such an essay!

Lots of love to everyone Smile

IQ that is great, understand how strange it is when they first come back. once on DP first night back after being away he woke up looked at me said who the bloody hell are you and fell out of bed! Think he was expecting to wake up in his bunk surrounded by sweaty men. Still makes me laugh. Have a great evening.

InsomniaQueen · 28/11/2011 19:40

Hi all - been busy today as DH is finally home........yippee!!!!!!! Grin

He was very shocked by my bump and keeps looking at it like it's from a parallel universe but all in all very good - plus he said my boobs look amazing (gone from a B to a D)........was a bit Hmm but I shall take it as a compliment!!

it's a bit weird having him home to be honest but still nice to know I haven't got to worry about where he is tonight or whether he's safe as he will be tucked up beside me.

Hope everyone is well - I will catch up with you all in the next few days.
Love to all!! Xxx

eve34 · 28/11/2011 14:24

Afternoon all

Hope everyone is well no cake i see will have to make do with crap asda hobnobs.

Blue - so glad your week from hell is over. The problem with being good at your job is people will leave it to you to sort. Sadly sometimes things have to be let to fall apart so people appreciate all that you do. Although they soon will once you go on mat leave. How exciting for DH bus ride home. I am sure it was a shock but all labours are different. My contractions started off very slowly and took a further 52 hours before ds was born. No shouting or swearing just be saying ouch that hurts ALOT!

IQ how wonderfully creative of you. I am impressed. How was the wine party and when is DH back? Can't be long now.

Pie - have you booked your scan yet?

Baby - your scan must be soon too?

Peb - a day off and and a weekend away you lucky girl. Hope the SWI hits the right spot :-)

MDD - sorry to hear AF arrived. Fingers crossed for the next cycle, keep up the good work.

MrsS I know the reminders are really hard and each week is a mile stone on what should of been. Hang on in there. Testing after Christmas wow you have will power!

Nothing new to report here - I have yet to tell my mum, I don't know why I am such a coward thinking we should tell them at Christmas when we see them. Or am I just putting it off?

Hope everyone else is ok. I have to bake a cake for the cake sale this week for DS school. Now I really am one of those mummies!

MsScarlettInTheLibrary · 28/11/2011 11:14

Thanks wellies. Sorry about AF MyDaydream. Fingers crossed for a fun weekend away.

Well we've been SWI several times a day recently Blush so if it doesn't work it's been fun! Suppose I'm technically in the 2ww again. AF should appear 7the Dec -ish. Sticking to my promise of no POAS before Christmas, though, regardless.

MyDaydream · 27/11/2011 11:55

MsScarlett good luck for this cycle, fingers crossed for you.

AF came yesterday, bit disappointed but fingers crossed for next month. Ovulation will be at the same time we've got a weekend away booked, so hopefully a bit of fun and forgetting about it all will help.

welliesandpyjamas · 26/11/2011 23:27

missscarlett good luck with this cycle, nice to hear from you

datdream any news?

MsScarlettInTheLibrary · 26/11/2011 23:25

Haven't been around much, I've been trying to put baby things out of my head but just popping in now as I can feel definite ov pain so it's hard to ignore. This will be cycle number one post mc. I should be 24 weeks pregnant now, but I am gearing up for SWI instead.

We shall see what happens! I am interested to note I am ovulating from the right side this cycle. When I conceived I ovulated from the left. This has little bearing on the outcome I'm sure but seen as structural abnormalities of the uterus may have contributed to my late loss I'm conscious of things like that. Maybe if this one makes a baby it'll get in a better place. I still haven't heard anything about the post mortem results from the hospital, we're six weeks on now.

Fingers crossed for everyone at every stage, I'm sorry I can't comment individually right now, but I am keeping up and wishing you all well.

welliesandpyjamas · 25/11/2011 21:52

blue hope you're chilling nicely :)

daydream no news is good news, right! If you do make it to superdrug (as I did today) they have a buy one get one free on the first rresponse ones. I bought two double packs for £10ish.

insomnia I second the Veet sensitive

Got chucked backwards a bit this morning. My temperature entry on fertility friend for this morning moved my ovulation day to CD14, not CD10 as it had me up til now. Very disappointing because we didn't BD enough around then. So now I feel guilty for being irrationally annoyed at DH for not being in the mood after 16 hour days as a student teacher Hmm So mean of me to think that way before being rational about how impossibly tired I know he is at the moment. Sigh. Yet another example of why ttc screws with your head :(

MyDaydream · 25/11/2011 21:05

poppy still in the running for this month, I'll keep everyone updated.

insomnia On Veet, buy the sensitive type, and it's really easy, just slap it on, wait and then remove it. I used to use it, don't know why I still don't TBH the only downside is it stinks but it's really easy and the smell goes as soon as you wash it off.

InsomniaQueen · 25/11/2011 19:26

Hi all,

Thought I would send a quick message as I'm off to a wine party - yes I said a wine party where there will be free samples.......slight sad face as I do miss a nice rose but at least there will be nibbles which I'm sure people won't frown on me too much for having a few helpings!!!

pie good to hear from you and sorry things have been manic at work. I totally understand the lurking because if worry, hopefully you'll get some nice news from the reassurance scan. Do you think you will take the plunge any time soon??

pebs veet sounds like an interesting option but never used it before so not really sure how it actually works......any good advice before I gamble as I don't want to end up with no fanjo hair which happened to my mate!!! Grin

poppy that tea sounds nice - haven't had a herbal tea for years. I will keep it all crossed that this gives you a nice little boost in the right direction.

my daydream I used first response firstly but I couldn't do it again after the MC as I had a bit of a it's 'jinxed' moment so have shoved them somewhere and now can't remember where the heck they are. Have used IC and CB Digi's since which have been easily the most reliable and easy to decipher.

blue hope your having a relaxing evening with a nice hot chocolate and hope you enjoy time away with your family over the weekend......lots of hugs from here!!

Love to everyone else and hope your all enjoying the end of the working week!! Xxx

Poppyjen · 25/11/2011 19:12

Well done blue have a wonderful relaxing evening and a lovely weekend Grin

mydaydream how are you doing? Any sign of AF? Keeping my fingers crossed for you Smile

BlueCrane · 25/11/2011 17:29

Evening all project has finally been submitted! We managed to upload it to the Client's website with minutes to spare...phew! Has been one of the most full on days I've had for a long time and after a super crazy week. I'm now off home to collapse in a heap and then we're off to my Brother's tomorrow and back Sunday so I will probably catch up then on how everyone is! Thanks for all your kind words and support as I have ranted and vented this week. Hope you all have good weekends! Smile

MyDaydream · 25/11/2011 13:07

I used a Sainsburys one this morning, and a Boots one today. Tried to find a Superdrug to pick one that's been mentioned a few times since I've been here, but couldn't find the branch!

I'm 15dpo today, due on today and usually wake up with my period already started as I've always been fairly regular. Don't chart or use ovulation tests, when we started to try again we decided to try the first few months just in a try and see way to not put too much stress on for now, but come January/February will probably start thinking about these a bit more if nothing has happened. I do have some ovulation tests that were gifted to us since the person had bulk bought but not finished the stash before she conceived, so I say all this, but since they're there I might crack and pee next cycle, who knows.

Poppyjen · 25/11/2011 12:26

Sorry to hear that MyDaydream - the inevitable questions follow.....which test did you use, and remind me how many dpo you are? There's always hope whilst AF stays away Smile Do you chart your temps/use OPKs to be sure of ovulation date?

Positive attitude is so important in all of this - so pleased you are feeling it, long may it continue!

MyDaydream · 25/11/2011 12:18

InsomniaQueen all the sewing sounds lovely, I need to get mine out and practising again it's been stuck in a cupboard for months and will be feeling neglected if I don't find a project soon!

peb Good luck with the pouncing, think it usually works for anything. I could probably get DP to agree to spend his savings on shoes if I pounced at the right time. Have a good weekend.

Tested first thing this morning and the test didn't work! Went out to buy more and ended up with bfn. Still feeling hopeful, mainly because I don't feel like crap, which is the usual sign of my period coming. So fingers crossed I'll continue feeling fine, and I'll get that bfp over the weekend. And maybe this positive side will stick around for a bit too, this really isn't my usual attitude to life.

Poppyjen · 25/11/2011 10:30

Ooooh Pebs I am very Envy of your day off and weekend away, sounds fabulous Grin - all in all you have a brilliant few weeks shaping up don't you...lucky thing! I guess starting to ttc would be the icing on the cake wouldn't it. I hope your DH thinks so too Smile

Time for a mid-morning cup of tea I think, mine's a Twinings green tea with apple and pear (recently discovered at Tesco). It is really nice and I hear drinking green tea helps out with ttc related matters (eg CM) so I have a cupboard full Blush

pebspop · 25/11/2011 09:28

hi everyone!

i am on a day off today - haven't had a day off work for three months arrgghhh!! just waiting in for sainsburys delivery then i am off on a girly weekend away. dh should be missing me when i get back so i might pounce with my 'lets try this cycle' routine! hope he says yes, i think it makes sense as if it worked i would be seven weeks when i get back from oz. i could start having my early scans and injections then. if it doesn't work theres nothing lost as we were thinking of trying next cycle anyway.

blue sounds like a nightmare day. you need to speak to your bosses as you don't want to be getting stressed out. it's not good for you. do you have any holidays you could take to get a few days off? it's nearly christmas so hang in there - do you get a good break at xmas? we finish on xmas eve and go back after new year, we are lucky!

iq could you not slap some veet on down there? that would do the trick! i think time is going very quickly at the moment. since i knew i was waiting until christmas to ttc i have planned loads of things to do so i am rushing around all the time going out, weekends away, doing a course at local college etc. then i booked the big holiday to australia and that will see me through!! i wish time went this quickly during those first 12 weeks of pg.

pie can you not arrange an early scan with the epu? it might help to put your mind at rest.

eve glad the risk of downs was low. was it you that got told the measurements looked high by the private scan place - i would ring them and complain for making you nervous.

PieMistress · 24/11/2011 22:25

Just popping on to say a big hi to all (and welcome back to martha !!!!). I have been lurking the past few days as a) work is MANIC and I don't have time to even do any christmas shopping on the net at lunch (shocking!) and b) i'm oh so freaked out as to whether or not i've even got a bubba growing. I still haven't been for an early reassurance scan and am now approx 8+4. I'm too scared but know that I must as can't risk finding out at 12 weeks i've had a MMC so must get one booked asap. My nausea hasn't been as bad the past few days (cue metalling) but my stomach is huge! I feel so bloated all the time and my tummy is bigger than at 20 weeks last time!! I am a stone and a half heavier to start off with though (booo).

Will be back at the weekend and catch up! That was supposed to just be a quick hiya! :-) Pie xxx

InsomniaQueen · 24/11/2011 19:12

Evening all,

I've spent the past week at my sewing machine to stop me going stir crazy and losing it due to the fact I can barely leave the house for very long because of the hernia pain. So far I've managed 3 pairs of curtains, a set of moses basket sheets and a cot bumper. Not bad really but if I was on my A game it would all be done by now. There is a fab second hand baby shop here which I love love love and have managed to get so many wonderful things for complete bargains.......it's so dangerous that DH isn't here to stop me but in my defence everything is off my baby list and.......well I just bloody wanted it so I bought them!!!! Grin. Oh and also EXCITING - DH is due back any day which is making me Smile YAY. I had a hilarious conversation with my DSis though - i explained that i hadnt been able to 'manage' my bikini area recently since he left nearly 14 weeks ago due to the size of my tummy. She replied "oh well, considering he's spent the past couple of months around a bunch of hairy blokes he'll feel right at home" - my DSis is blunt to say the least........it did make me laugh though!!!

poppy good to see you have some good info from the clinic and at least you can see the costs up front so you can kind of see what kind of money you would be looking at before you get down that road IYSWIM!!!

Martha welcome back to the pit - your winning bullying ways have been missed by all but Manda has at many times stepped into the breach and provided slaps, I mean hand holding where necessary!!!! So glad your feeling on the up though - just hope things keep going that way.

eve great news on your test results - i bet you feel massively relieved and well done for your Xmas shopping - I have barely thought about it but really with so many to buy for I really should get a wriggle on!!

blue so sorry that work is a nightmare you fully have all of my sympathy it is bloody shit to be honest and I really do hope that your weekend brings you a bit of down time from your hellish work life!!! And 'ha ha' about your DH with the labour on the bus......bet he was a bit Shock!!!

wellies sounds like a great plan - if you get them BOGOF it feels less like pissing on a £5 and then you have a spare for secondary testing. I'm sure your OH will oblige as well so this will help you stay strong test wise.......keeping my legs crossed for you!!!

myday I felt Grin when I read your post - handing over the test pee end first just tickled me sooooo much!!! We shall be waiting on tenterhooks for any news tomorrow, hoping it's a good outcome!!

pebs how are things with you? Hopefully good and the days aren't ticking by too slowly!!!

Right im sure I've forgotten people but I will apologise for my poor brain and poor memory during this time!!!

Love to all xxxx

BlueCrane · 24/11/2011 19:07

Well...DH left when the ambulance arrived, aparently the lady's waters broke on the bus and LO started making it's way out right then...think she was 32 weeks so hopefully they will both be ok! DH said she let out the most horrendous scream as her contractions started...think it was a bit of a wake up call for him as to what it's really like to be female!!!

Sorry for my earlier rant all

Am going to try and get one more thing done and then make my way home and deal with the rest in the morning...mustn't start thinking about my bed until I make it to the car though!!

eve glad results were ok...I also posted a scan pic to my Mum this week, though she has known for a while but will be a lovely gift I'm sure!

Poppyjen · 24/11/2011 18:58

Blue wow what a day Shock

Chocolate is good. That's all I'll say.

BlueCrane · 24/11/2011 18:00

And, never a dull moment...DH just rang, he was trying to get home quickly as had decided that he would at least try and cook my dinner before he went out but apparently the bus has had to stop as a lady has just gone into labour on the back seat of the bus and they're waiting for the ambulance to turn up hoping that the LO stays put for a few more minutes and doesn't come as quickly as seems to be happenning at the moment Shock Shock Well, that wasn't quite the call I was expecting!! Hope she's ok...be interested if DH decides to help out as he's horrendous with blood (can't even cope with the mention of it!) Hmm

Meanwhile I found a box of quality street o one of the secrataries desks which I have raided and made myself a cup of chocolate (probably feel sick soon but chocolate is definitely comforting until then!)

welliesandpyjamas · 24/11/2011 17:51

blue get a take away, eat it, go straight to bed. Sounds like you more than deserve/need it.

baby oh, and do you know...I have to walk past superdrug tomorrow morning again on way to rhymetime....and I love BOGOFs! Will have to give them to dh to hide from me until next week!

martha welcome back!!!

Poppyjen · 24/11/2011 17:44

eve sorry pressed go too soon... that's is brilliant news!!!! I hope your mum enjoys receiving her card and scan pic, what a lovely idea Smile

I have to say you are very organised getting christmas presents sorted so early, I am only just realising I have to think about it.... Grin
