PPS - There obviously shouldn't be a smiley face on the first sentence of my long post!

PieMistress · 05/10/2011 11:15

, thanks for all your helpful info xx

PieMistress · 05/10/2011 11:14

Thanks guys, I am sitting at work trying to stop myself from crying :) I just had to facilitate a meeting and the whole time am thinking about it all and what it means. I just wish I didn't know :( To be honest, given i'm 39 i'm not sure what kind of FSH level I was expecting! I guess 'normal' or even 'fair' would have been good, not 'poor'!

manda I was going to get a 50mg B6 complex at lunch (there is already 10mg in my multi-vits). Or should I just go for the 100mg? Does it need to be a complex, or just the B6? My understanding is that you are only as good as your highest FSH level :( I doubt if, deep down, we would have done IVF anyway but I guess it's not having the choice makes it hard(er). Are you still taking the 100mg of B6 now? I'm a bit scared of AC having heard so many 'yes take it' 'no, don't take it' stories! But you are veering me towards the yes take it route! I think I will give it a month with extra B6 and also some wheatgrass which is supposed to help (listen to me, I never thought I would turn into a shaking vitamin junkie, this is ontop of my conception multi-vitamin and extra D3!). Do you take B6 and AC all the way through your cycle or stop AC at ovulation? Sorry for all the questions xxx

I am also cursing how stressful my job has been this year as stress seems to definitely play a part in raised FSH levels. PAH!

summer I do have private healthcare & already have approval from BUPA to see a gynae, just need the referral from my GP. She's off today but should be able to do it over the phone. I think at least an u/s scan would be good and possibly an HSG?? I'm sitting with you now on the huge leather sofa with a large mojhito and drowing my sorrows!

So happy to read the success stories from this thread though! And manda sorry if I didn't say so already (in my doom and gloom!) but I am sooo happy for your good scan yesterday!

I think I need to get a GRIP and not wallow in my crap blood tests. If there are ways of helping my body right itself then i'm damn well going to give it a go. At least then I'll know I did my best. DS is such a sociable toddler, he is always going up to other kids (strangers) to play with them that it breaks my heart to think he might be an only child (but, I am eternally grateful to have him and know we are blessed).

Thanks for being my sounding board, sorry to bring doom and gloom to the thread when we've been doing so well with lots of BFPs!!

MandaHugNKiss · 05/10/2011 11:07

Oh, and when I say it acts upon your hypothalamus and pituitary, the effet is it lowers fsh and increases LH, which, it would seem from your results, is exactly what you need to balance, normalise, your result.

Chin up, pie. Things might not actually be as bad as they seem.

MandaHugNKiss · 05/10/2011 10:59

pie Have you looked at/considered agnus castus? It is great for improving egg quality, lowering fsh, and improving progesterone levels after O. Also, high dose complex b vits are known to improve egg quality (it's been shown ivf patients produce consistently better eggs when taking it).

Consider trying these two together, to tackle your issue (which, also as I understand it, is not set in stone - you absolutely can improve the values of your tests and if it helps you fall pregnant then it won't matter on iota that an ivf clinic wouldn't treat you!)? Out it this way - they can't hurt. Or, at least the b vits definitely won't hurt and although agnus castus can screw up some women's cycles anecdotally (which is surely just one step away from statistically if such anecdotes are collated?! (listen to me putting a positive spin on everything!) for women with test results such as yours they see a big improvement.

I know the 'sensible' way to approach this would be to go to a herbalist to get them to 'prescribe' it for you but I've taken this combo three times now with success (yes, I took it to concieve DS2, DS3 and was taking 1200mg AC in the AM and a B100 complex when I fell pregnant this time - seemingly the first time I was technically able to fall pregnant because of my wonky cycles after the mmc)

If you really do want another child, I think it's definitely worth a shot. Give it at least three months (the AC contains no hormones in and of itself - it acts upon your hypothalamus and pituitary to balance things).

BlueCrane · 05/10/2011 10:48

Thanks summer glad you're doing ok...take as much time as you need in the VIP area!! Think bean and I may be slowly moshing our way to the loos soon...huge wave of nausea and light-headedness just hit! Trying to 'embrace the symptoms' as I panic if I don't have them...but amazing how it literally hit me out of nowhere as I was feeling pretty ok earlier Hmm Can't see me getting much done today TBH...

Summerbird73 · 05/10/2011 09:37

oo and you too blue hope you and your bean are bouncing around in a moshing stylee!

whoa whoa whoa pie WTF is your GP doing telling you that the bloods are normal if laypeople like yourself know that this is not good? is there any way you can get a second opinion? even just going to a different GP at the practice? that is fecking outrageous Angry for you!

i urge you to seek some kind of second opinion, do you have any kind of private healthcare? we have it through work and i got a referral to a gynaecologist a while back.

thank you all so much for your support, i was a bit weepy and moody with DH last night (bless him) but i am feeling much better today. DH is going to make me a lovely meal with oodles of vino either at the weekend or Monday. I got loads of cuddles and kisses from DS last night Smile so am appreciating what i have got.

Hope i can spend a little more time in the VIP area though as i am getting rather comfy, and enjoying all the cakes and lattes, i enjoyed some of the complimentary vino and cocktails last night and moshed danced within the velvet rope - was rather looking forward to a rerun tonight Wink

manda excellent news on the 11mm of wonderfulness in your tum! i can imagine it was amazing to see Smile

IQ MissG manda my advice is spend spend spend!! I waited until after my 12 week scan with DS but once i was there i was a retail dream!

Will try and catch up later when-i-am-sick-of-work

BlueCrane · 05/10/2011 09:35

pie I'm so so sorry...just googled FSH and have been baffled with science but get the general gist that the levels really aren't conducive to conception Sad What did your GP advise was the next step?

summer how are you feeling today?

IQ so sorry to hear about your friend...this whole TTC business is very much a rollercoaster and not an easy one! Hope your work is ok - are you back with reduced hours now? Good that your DH is going to chat to your BIL too! How long til DH is back?

I had a v relaxing evening which was very much needed as was soooo tired...probably the other reason I was feeling a bit emotional yesterday but feeling a lot better for some good sleep last night!

PieMistress · 05/10/2011 08:09

Arghghgh just lost my message ! GRRRRR

summer how are you today? Hope you are okay xx

Well, i'm fucked. Got my CD3 blood tests results back yesterday and i've basically got a diddly squat cat in chance hell of conceiving each month. My LH was 5.5 (which is fine) but my FSH was 12.7 (!!) That is not freeking good AT ALL. They are supposed to be 1:1 and anything over 10 is considered poor. Looks like my eggs are finally giving up :( :( :(

I was awake half the night fretting and am so down. I really don't know what to do. I think I am going to have to get used to our family of 3 and resign myself that DS won't have a sibling. I am so so gutted. I wish I hadn't even got the bloody blood tests done, at least then ignorance would have been bliss! My GP said my results were 'normal' but even I know anything over 10 means my eggs are in a shambolic state! Wish I hadn't asked for the actual figures now. Seemingly most clinics won't even do IVF with a FSH of that level.

So that result, combined with my low progesterone doesn't bode well at all :( :(

Sorry for me, me, me post. I feel like crap and don't know what to do. They won't normally give clomid to people with high FSH levels either as it just stimulates the follicles to produce more FSH and you have a risk of early menopause (especially if you are older).

IQ I'm not sure if I have PCOS. If you have a higher LH level than FSH you do but mine is the other way around?

I have read you can reduce your FSH levels with diet, vitamins etc but once you have had a high level that's the one that the consultants will always refer to as if it's lowered it's not a true reading (or something).

so sorry for the downer post x

InsomniaQueen · 05/10/2011 07:53

Frown has been turned upside down - just had a lovely conversation with DH which is normally wonderful but was made even better as he has promised to 'have a word' with the horrible BIL and explain that my culture and the way we do things is fine for us and he needs to take a back seat because his comments are not ok with him and "he won't have anyone upsetting his wife"........my face is now Grin!!!!! God I love that man - he drives me mad but he does usually come good and sort it out for me.

Also starting to make some headway with my housework which has been neglected due to the terrible bad back but in that time has mounted up considerably. I woke up at 6:30, I could have stayed in bed but decided that getting up would be a better use of my time. I now have a sparkly bathroom which is a huge improvement from the hovel that it was last night. Weather is looking a bit gloomy here so going to start dragging my 'autumn' wardrobe out again.

Hope you are all well!!! Xxx

InsomniaQueen · 04/10/2011 21:20

Hi all sorry have been a 'lurky' again lately.

Firstly big congratulations to Manda on her lovely bean and heartbeat news!! Grin

Secondly summer so sorry you are feeling horribly down at the moment. Sending you lots of love and hugs from casa iq and hoping that you are having a relaxing evening with lots of treats and wine!! Xxxx

So an update from me - I was away all weekend with my parents - which was ok and avoided any dramas by using the tiredness excuse to go to bed early. Went back to work on Monday and life has been insanely busy with a mammoth inbox to deal with. Never mind, on the up side I went to aqua natal yesterday which was really good and helped me sleep so that was great. Was also nice to meet other women who are also pregnant and around the same point as me.

MissG I have also been up to no good but I have been spending not just looking.....so far I've bought a second hand set of drawers and wardrobe (was such a good deal from a friends cousin I couldn't let it pass me by) and the bedding and fabric to make matching curtains, bumpers ect. I had vowed not to buy anything until 24 weeks after my 4d scan but i just couldn't stop myself. Too scared to keep anything in the house though.

Today has been a bit of a down day for me also - a good friend went to see her fertility consultant and was told that she has PCOS (I think pie also has this) and her hubby has a low sperm count. She is gutted and isn't really sure how to pull herself up off the ground at the moment. I felt so sorry for her cos she has been my rock in RL going through all this TTC stuff as we both started trying at the same time. I sent her a bunch of flowers to cheer her up a bit as it's been a hard bloody year for her. The consultant has given her some drugs to induce ovulation and a period but the dr isnt hugely confident and thinks they will have to go down the IVF route. At the moment everyone keeps asking the "when are you going to have a baby question" and it is getting tougher to be polite or lie and just say that they arent ready or want more time together ect. Feel so useless at the moment cos I just don't have anything I can say to help her. Sad face this evening - Sad!!!

Sorry for the big moan and non name check - I promise to sort it out!! Love to all you lovely ladies!!! Xxx

Missgiraffe1 · 04/10/2011 16:08

Summer Hope you find some sort of peace after today. Until then, you can have your very own plush sofa in the VIP padded area, with an array of pastries, cakes, chocolate, savoury snacks and a fully-stocked bar for your unlimited use. Grin (and don't mind me sitting at your feet slevvering over the wine you are drinking and pate you are eating)
And re SWI... it only takes the one little swimmer remember!
Oooh, and home improvements! Exciting.

Manda great news! Smile Isn't it amazing when you see that wee blob with a heartbeat flickering away??!! Blue that is EXACTLY WHAT YOU ARE GOING TO SEE (PMA PMA PMA PMA PMA PMA) although you may even see a bit more if you're 8 +2! The difference a day makes is really quite phenomenal.

I am trying but failing to not get too ahead of myself but have been looking at cots Confused. My justification is that I need to review the sleeping arrangements as my nephew will soon be too big for his travel cot. Trying to work out if I could fit a junior bed in the nursery (which currently houses a bearded dragon, 4 bookcases and lot of boxes of utter junk)
And when you look at the size of junior beds, you then need to look at the size of cots, and wardrobes and changing tables ... and rocking chairs.... and prams ... and moses baskets ... and play gyms... and car seats ... and cots sets ... and christening gowns ... and .. and .. and ...... FAIL!!

BlueCrane · 04/10/2011 15:30

Yeah Grin Grin manda been wondering how you've been getting on all day!!! That's really great news! Amazing that you could see so much too! I know you will probably be moshing around again soon but hang onto the joy from that for a while at least if you can! Also v glad the peace lily is bringing comfort too.

MandaHugNKiss · 04/10/2011 15:22

Yes, it was me who bought a peace lily, and it's totally surprised me how much peace it brings me. Havinng something solid, literally in my view at all most times somehow means he's never forgotten (not that he ever IS...) It's a very odd thing to try and explain but it's like the thought of him is here and present in our actual lives rather than just our hearts/heads. I know this isn't making much sense! All I can say is give it a try if any of this rambling makes any sense and you think it might help you too Smile

I will catch up with you all properly later, really. But have to tell you all The News.

So!

Baby measures 11mm (giving a gestational age of 7+2 (I'm 7+4) but it was an abdominal scan so I'm not worried about 'losing' 2 days with that measurememnt; I'm sure it would've been more accurate with a dildocam but there was really no need) and, in the sonographers words has 'a beautiful, really strong heartbeat'. She pointed out the yolk sac, and said 'look, you can even see the head has developed' pointing it out - last pregnancy I had a scan a 7+3 and it was really just a smooth skinny sausage shape so it was interesting to see the difference a couple of days makes!

All in all, it looks perfect for this early stage and I'm very relieved.

How long that relief will last I don't know! But, for now, I'm happy. Hooray!

BlueCrane · 04/10/2011 15:09

summer indulge away with the me me posts...it's important to let it out otherwise you'll get to exploding point!! I know others bought a plant or something similar to mark the date - have you thought about doing something similar?

Any news from manda really hope she got on ok this morning...

Summerbird73 · 04/10/2011 13:07

thanks to you all ladies i needed that! trying to cheer myself up with thoughts of a kitchen extension (getting a builder quote round tonight) and how much easier a bigger kitchen area will be with a new bubba in July next year.... not sure if this is the month but we got in another spot of SWI last night, i OV'd yesterday so we prob have tonight left but who knows Hmm
