Let's make some May babies

The end of July is drawing near; SWI with DP hasn't been as frequent as hoped; and I've decided to err on the side of caution.

So. Here's a thread for anyone else hoping to make a beautiful May 2012 baby.

I am 27 and TTC #1. Been on pill for an age so unsure of cycles. Only been trying for a couple of weeks - the more I type the more I note my wild optimism!!

Anyone else who knows more about this business than I do? Please come and give me some hope that a May baby might be at all possible :)

Sorry to hear that all4u.

DS was born during a heatwave in mid June. It was so hot we didn't dare swaddle him and it was very hard to get him to settle. But at least DH got to see the whole of Wimbledon Grin He's hoping for DC to arrive early August next year so he can watch the Olympics.

Kveta · 27/07/2011 12:28

only problem with may is that it's exam season! other than that, we def want a summer baby* - whole family are feb or december babies, except DS and my mum who are september - which in england, is good for the school year. (I'm a feb birthday, so in scotland was youngest in the year all through school).

I was pg with DS through a british summer, so it wasn't too grim :o I just know I don't want a july/august baby, because I would feel they were at a disadvantage at school (as I was) now we live down south.

  • disclaimer - an autumn or winter or early spring baby wouldn't be he end of the world, but a summer one would be lovely :o
Catsycat · 27/07/2011 12:10

Just spoke to DH and he is trying to rearrange his work schedule next week so he is only away on Tuesday night. He was going to be away Tuesday & Wednesday, but I whinged at him last night that it was right in the middle of my cycle. Good to see that he is committed to the cause too!!!

I was born in May - as all4u says, it is a nice time to have a birthday - mine is early in the month so I often got the may bank holiday as my birthday. My mum used to make me a birthday cake with a maypole on it, which was fab. The weather is often really nice too (not too hot, but sunny - my favourite weather!!!). DD1 was a september birthday, so I was pg right through a hot summer, DD2 was the end of december, and it snowed heavily when she was a few days old so no-one would come to visit us for ages and we couldn't go out, and I was bored!!! Definitely recommending may birthdays (and hoping for one for DC3).

all4u · 27/07/2011 11:59

May is a lovely time to have a baby! You really do not want to be heavily pregnant in the heat of the summer believe me (though granted heat waves can happen at any time). Christmas is not affected and their birthday is well away from Christmas. Plus it is early enough so they are not the youngest in their school year and you get bank holidays for birthday celebrations...arguably May is the 'best' month. But hey I slipped a March baby at 7 weeks many years ago (I realise now that something was not right with it and my body was just doing its job but it was upsetting at the time) so the May birth was not planned!

Quenelle · 27/07/2011 09:50

Sounds promising loulou. DS was conceived on holiday Smile

I have serious PMT going on. Very pinchy boobs and cramps. I keep wondering idly to myself if these are actually pg symptoms but I really think not. AF isn't due until next Tuesday so 6 more days of wondering.

I must get a grip, I'm not even in my first official cycle TTC yet!

louloubellamozzarella · 27/07/2011 09:03

That's what I like to see Festie; commitment to the cause!

Mamma - keep us updated!!

My AF may have arrived... v light though so we'll see.. if it is then that's a good thing as it will be out of the way for the start of Aug and plenty of holiday SWI Grin. I'll also know I'm actually ovulating which is a good start...

Had a friend over for dinner last night and let slip that we're trying - haven't told anyone else as didn't want any pressure. She's been TTC for a while so it was nice to actually chat about it - along with chatting about it on here it's making it more and more real!

MammaintheMaking Wow! You could be our thread's first BFP!

That's the spirit festie. Good to see the thread's starting off with a good work ethic.

festiemum · 26/07/2011 21:38

Right, well my AF's just stopped, so I suppose I'd better get down to business... See you later!! Blush

MammaInTheMaking · 26/07/2011 18:17

Well now I'm in a pickle and allowing my mind to get very carried away. DP agreed he wanted to start trying last week and we got right on down to it! I totally assumed we'd missed the boat for July however a quick look at the dates and things at work today shows we did the deed on Ov day and the day after. So I'm now driving myself round the bend thinking "what if"... I'm telling myself that it all starts for real in Aug however I'd prob pee my pants if a BFP appeared before. Oh goodness, AF due a week tomorrow....it's gona be a long week!

Kveta · 26/07/2011 15:01

glad I'm not the only one with a filthy mind then!!

my cycles have been all over the place recently, but past 2 months have been about 40 days, so am going on that information. DS is 2 in september, and still bfed, so I'm hopeful that that will make no difference to my fertility, but DH is fairly keen that DS is off the boob by christmas, so if no DC2 on the way by then, I guess I will wean him to potentially increase fertility. We had no trouble TTC DS though, so have no idea what I'll do if I'm not pg by the end of August!! Probably fall apart spectacularly for a couple of days, then regroup and continue SWI :o

Quenelle · 26/07/2011 14:32

I bought it from Access Diagnostics last time (even though it sounds like an auto parts website Confused). I will probably use them again because they packaged it in a nice anonymous brown package, which is necessary if you get it delivered to your workplace...

It looks like they do the full range of products to help you obsess fertility products, Pregnacare Conception tablets are cheaper there than Boots, although I think I'll give Boots own brand a try this time.

louloubellamozzarella · 26/07/2011 14:10

Gnahaha [smutty laugh] - have just re-read thread from my 'anal' comment in a whooole different light Grin. Sorry, this is probably meant to be a lovely fluffy conception thread and I've really lowered the tone...

Loving the 'topped up at all times' method. Do you think you could get it into the MN acronyms list: KQTUAAT - hm catchy!

I would really love my AF to arrive so I knew where my cycle is at. I am going on hols next week - guarantee it will start on day 1 of bikini wearing....

Quenelle, I might have to give preseed a try.... where do you buy it - are we talking Tesco or online?!

OP posts:
MammaInTheMaking · 26/07/2011 14:06

Yup my mind fell in that gutter too!

Confused
Quenelle · 26/07/2011 11:48

I didn't like to say anything festie, I thought maybe you knew something we didn't Wink

festiemum · 26/07/2011 11:45

Oh Gawd, it's just impossible not to symptom spot isn't it?!

There's just no way I'm going to be able to be all cool and laid back about it! Do love the Keep Quennelle Topped Up At All Times method though - think you should patent that! :o

You're right though, regular SWI between periods is the way forward. Though I LOL'ed at Kveta wondering how loulou was planning on conceiving with anal!! :)

Quenelle · 26/07/2011 11:37

Hi, can I join too? We're also just starting TTC DC2.

Last time we spent months concentrating on SWI at the right time etc and tbh I don't think we were doing it enough Blush. We finally decided on a plan to SWI every other day between periods using preseed. Not sure if the preseed actually helped with the conception but it certainly made it easier to have a 5 min quickie if we weren't in the mood. Aaanyway, it worked the first month and we now have 2yo DS.

So this time we're going straight in with the Keep Quenelle Topped Up At All Times method. Although I confess I'm already symptom spotting after we SWI this month on CD19 Blush

louloubellamozzarella · 26/07/2011 11:29

Blush oops! I do often make unintentionally smutty/un thought out comments; sorry for that!

Welcome ladies :)

Kveta · 26/07/2011 11:03

hiya, DH and I have just decided to TTC DC2, so is it ok if I join? DS was a bit of an unexpected conception, involving lots of alcoholic beverages, so DH thinks we should just get pissed and not bother with contraception - I'm more into planning this one! I've worked when I should be fertile, so am just going to ambush him more often in that week.

we've just got our first bed, too (after years in rental properties, and several months on a sofa!), so we're making the most of it :o

Loulou - when you said 'I like to do things 'properly' (ie anal' I read that a little bit wrong :o and thought 'well, that's not going to make any babies!!' I apologise in advance for my mind being in the gutter :o

festiemum · 26/07/2011 10:56

Hello! Can I join you too?! I am another anal control freak, and my other children were planned with military precision, but this time, I want to try to just go with the flow and see what happens!

I have a feeling, it's not going to be easy though! :o

louloubellamozzarella · 26/07/2011 10:42

Hi Catsy, sounds like you might have a good chance so good luck! I have no idea how fertile I am (if at all :S) - starting to think I should maybe have maybe called this thread 'Let's make some May-August (possibly winter 2012) babies' Grin.

'The product' made me smile - might have to employ that one as my secret codeword :)

Catsycat · 26/07/2011 10:33

Hi, can I join you? I had a mc & ERPC at the end of June, and have just had AF (came back pretty quickly). DH works away part of the week, but on his return will be swi... This would be DC3.

Can't help thinking it will take ages this time, though the pg I mc happened the first month of trying :( when we were on holiday. Hoping it's true about being more fertile after a mc. Have ordered DH not to be away too many nights next week, as requiring access to the product at all times!!!!

Am charting and will try ovulation sticks this month, but only because I am wanting to check everything is working properly after the mc. However, I think generally being relaxed about it as much as possible does help, and definitely trying to keep dtd fun and "spontaneous" as much as possible will keep DH happier!!!

louloubellamozzarella · 26/07/2011 09:20

Why thank you for joining me ladies; let's hope this good luck gets us somewhere.

I definitely think the advice not to take it too seriously to start is spot on.

I like to do things 'properly' (ie anal and planaholic) so my instinct is to get stastical but I can tell that's only going to stress me out, so I'm forcing myself not to even think about testing early or thinking about cycles etc.

Deciding to TTC is a big enough jump at the moment anyway, so it's good to take it slowly. Don't want to over-inform but I have loved coming off the pill after so long on it (nearly 10 years). Amongst other things I'll just say that hadn't realised how much my libido had gone down over that time Wink.

I'm really not expecting TC straight away anyway; my cycles always were a bit hit and miss. Be nice to have some company for the journey anyway, so would be good to know how you're all getting on :).

I'm jumping on this thread too!! I've just started TTC and think I might have missed an April baby so have all fingers and toes Fx for a May bub. Just stocked up on Folic Acid vitamins at the shop, I'm so excited!!! My cycle is a very regular 29 days so hope I've got things sussed there.... Good luck ladies

Marwoir · 25/07/2011 13:39

Just wanted to say good luck to you May 2012-ers. I had my boy in May 2011, and I vividly remember this time last year, seems like a lifetime ago. But May is a gorgeous time to have a baby, I wish you all the luck in the world!
