Let's make some May babies

The end of July is drawing near; SWI with DP hasn't been as frequent as hoped; and I've decided to err on the side of caution.

So. Here's a thread for anyone else hoping to make a beautiful May 2012 baby.

I am 27 and TTC #1. Been on pill for an age so unsure of cycles. Only been trying for a couple of weeks - the more I type the more I note my wild optimism!!

Anyone else who knows more about this business than I do? Please come and give me some hope that a May baby might be at all possible :)

Sorry Mamma heres a Brew and cake

festiemum · 07/08/2011 12:26

Hmm, mamma, this is the difficulty now, isn't it? I find it nigh on impossible to relax when I know I'm meant to! Hope AF turns up soon, so you can start a new cycle afresh! :)

festiemum · 07/08/2011 12:23

Oh no notnow; you don't think we're all working each other up into a frenzy do you?

Personally I find it useful to vent my madness, rather than letting it fester inside!! :o

MammaInTheMaking · 07/08/2011 12:21

Hiya notnow. I must admit that I have been on a heightened state of analysing every single twinge and reaction my body's been making over the last couple of weeks and I'm concerned that this level of anxiety had made my usually regular cycle go up the wall! I can't say it's because of MN at all because I'd be like it regardless. But I think it has taught me to just chill out a bit about this whole thing. I'm not sure what I can do to make AF turn up but I reckon I will take a little back step from things to try and settle my nerves!

The support is incredible on MN however despite all the signs this month, deep down I did know I wasn't pg. Seeing it on the stick was a real bugger though.

I'm not sure what to do at the mo, am sort of in limbo with no AF. This has never happened before!!

notnowImreading · 07/08/2011 12:06

So, the question is, do we make it harder for each other by being in such a heightened state of excitement whenever anyone has a twinge or a day late or whatever? Finding out you're not pregnant when you already know really that you're not pregnant sucks (I do it obsessively every month) - really sorry to hear it sucks for you too this month, Mamma - but does the encouragement and support from the thread make it worse or better? I've really enjoyed being part of this thread and everyone is, undoubtedly, supportive. But are we doing each other any favours? What do you all think? Is mental catching? If so, watch out - you'll all get it from me...

festiemum · 07/08/2011 11:00

Oh no Mamma; I thought you were a sure thing! It sends us all bonkers doesn't it?

Hi Ecgwynn - lol at nice pants - definitely a winner in our house. If I stick on nice underwear, you can see OH thinking 'I know what she's after!'

Don't know what to say about the ttc madness; we all suffer from it to some extent. I've become thoroughly bonkers every time, (and this is the 4th time!). When you're a control freak like me, it's bloody hard to accept that this is one thing you can't really control. Yes, you can give it a bloody good go, but at the end of the day; you're at the mercy of your body! All I can say, is you're not alone, and this thread is full of great people who are all in the same boat! Support is vital, and there's plenty of that here! :)

Ecgwynn · 07/08/2011 10:42

Hi everyone! I'm new to this, although I've lurked for a while. DH and I have been ttc for a week now (!) and I find the whole thing still quite scary!
I think I have ovulated at some point this weekend so I'm working hard on my feminine wiles and wearing nice pants. Wink
I'm a bit of a perfectionist so I'm desperate to get preganant although I'm worried it's not going to work (and I know that I've got an 80% chance of failing!). Any tips to help me cope with this?

threecurrantbuns · 07/08/2011 09:42

Oh no I was convinced you would .et a positive may be worth testing again in a few days so frustrating that we spend most our life avoiding pregnancy then it seems like a task when trying to get pregnant.

I can't test till Fri bt the earliest, feeling sick today and sore boobs but had a late night involving bubbly so maybe that is why. I know im so bad although haven't touched alcohol for months as only recently stopped bf, think this could inhibit conception as my milk isn't completely dried up yet.

MammaInTheMaking · 07/08/2011 07:30

Was brave and got BFN. I knew I couldn't be but late AF is so rare for me. Perhaps I'm so excited to get started TTC for real it's messed up my cycle. Angry hope she shows up soon coz baby needs to be made!!!!!

missuswife · 07/08/2011 01:59

Minshu and Kveta, everyone I know is pregnant too. Four of my friends have announced it and one hasn't yet but has been very bad at hiding it. Don't know if it's our age group just doing its thing or if the economy being in the toilet means everyone is staying in!

Minshu · 06/08/2011 23:12

Kveta - I am one of those mums who tries to resist talking about sleeping habits in fear of jinxing things, I'm afraid... (early start for us this morning - I went in a bit after 7 am). This is really a lovely age - DD is really developing a sweet and adorable personality - makes me forget about the strain of the first few months (otherwise I might not want to do it again :))

Three people at work plus my cousin's wife have annouced pg recently, so very broody. All but cousin's wife are first timers, so I have no real right to be jealous.

notnowimreading - I definitely found early pg identical to pre-menstrual with DD - not helpful, is it?

Kveta · 06/08/2011 17:50

hiya Minshu! yep, I was (am) on the sep '09 thread - DS just squeaked in to september thanks to lots of induction and forceps :o how is your DD? DS is still sleeping atrociously (he was up from 3.30 am today. seriously), but becoming more and more of a little person rather than a baby. He never stops chattering away now either, it's tiring!

I'm starting to get annoyed that we're TTC, because I want some WINE goddammit. I'm away to meet some friends at the end of August, and 2 of us are TTC at the moment, so we're lamenting the lack of wine that will be drunk. stupid potential pregnancy. I'm busy making blackberry vodka for christmas presents this year, and although I'm not a drinker normally, I am just CRAVING a taste of the stuff because I know I shouldn't have it. Grr!

everyone I know at work and on FB seems to be pregnant at the moment though. every other day a new scan picture pops up. It's getting me very broody :o

We did it once so far at the right time. According to the interwebs we have two more days to try this month but I got mittelschmerz on Tuesday so I'm not as optimistic. My husband works nights and I work days so finding time to TTC is tricky. Hoping against all odds we will get lucky on the 20th anyway.

MammaInTheMaking · 06/08/2011 15:26

Hi signet welcome to this thread. I hope you are feeling better by the start of next week.

orange I'm 2 days late now with no sign of AF at all. I've just bought a CB digital which is in the drawer...when I get up tomorrow morning I'll have a think and if I'm brave enough I'll POAS. When I say brave, I mean brave enough to see a "not pg".

Thanks for your support and questions ladies. x

orangehead · 06/08/2011 14:41

Welcome Signet, unless you on a silly diet where your cutting out whole food groups or surviving on little calories I dont think dieting will affect your chance of gettig a bfp, infact eating more healthily will probably mprove your chances.
Rusulka your right they just want to make more money from us, stillhard not t test though.
How late are you Mamma?

Signet2012 · 06/08/2011 14:09

Move over ladies make room for another one!

Hi all :)

Im Signet been kicking about and lurking a few months, TTC #1

This months planning isnt going to plan due to being ill since tues with food poisoning hoping to be fully recovered by end of weekend so we can press ahead!

Been with partner for 6 years Im 29 and hoping this will happen soon.

Im quite overweight (more so according to charts to my actual physical size) so im a bit worried i wont get a BFP whilst i have a ALHE so also dieting! (lost 8 pounds in 5 days with stomach so whoop!)

Wish you all best of luck!

Signet (29) TTC#1 4th cycle AF due 22nd August

threecurrantbuns · 06/08/2011 13:53

Just been roughly working out a due date if I was lucky enough to be pregnant this month, I know I'm obsessed! Anyway looks like the end of April so hoping ill be asking you next week if I can still stay ;)

Rusulka · 06/08/2011 12:15

Incidentally I think it's important to sooth ourselves with the statistics off the back of the box. Those cheeky bastards professionals at the test companies may say you can test 4 days before AF is due, but what they don't say is that only 55% of tests will give you a BFP, even if you ARE pregnant.

So to sum up, when testing:

AF-4 = 55% chance of BFP being recognised
AF-3 = 86%
AF-2 = 97%
AF-1 = 98%
AF-0 = 99%+

I hope this helps all of you as much as it's helping me. Just because it says BFN doesn't mean it knows what it's talking about!
Ultimately, AF is the deal-breaker, NOT the stick.

festiemum · 06/08/2011 12:11

Yes notnow, that's what I was thinking. Nature's way of pissing you off in the 2ww!!

I think I speak for us all Mamma when I chant: "test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test test!"

:o

Rusulka · 06/08/2011 12:09

I POAS this morning at 5am. I woke up for a wee and suddenly wondered if I'd been getting BFN because technically my reasonable hour wee wasn't my first morning one... So despite promising myself I wouldn't, I did it again... and I'm not sure. It looked BFN, but the light wasn't brilliant, and even backlighting it with a torch couldn't confirm for me one way or the other. DH wasn't awake to tell me whether I was seeing something that wasn't there. Grr.

Also I had a moment of panic when I thought maybe my cramps a week agop weren't possible implantation but ovulation... then I checked our SWI dates and the last one could just about have hung on...

Why do we torture ourselves like this? Mamma I too am in admiration of your restraint. Every morning it's a constant battle not to pee on all the sticks I can find in the drawer, so I can cross-compare. I've got CB digital as back up too, but wasn't planning on cracking one out unless AF is late and I get a possible BFP.

My parents are visiting when AF is due, I'm going to be a right barrel of laughs. Will have to bake non stop or something.

Anyone else talking to their tummies, just in case? Or is it just me? I don't mean really weird stuff, just saying hello in the morning, and promising to eat something soon... have I gone completely bats? Answers on a postcard...

notnowImreading · 06/08/2011 12:01

Don't the early symptoms of pregnancy feel almost exactly the same as 'here comes the period' feelings? You might be onto a winner...

threecurrantbuns · 06/08/2011 11:55

Mamma I've hot a feeling your preg, I am the same cycle same length always a day late doesn't happen I tested straight away on this basis and each time I yes a day late I was pregnant I have a week 2mo until test day and willing my period not to arrive but have had stomach cramps most of this week so its not looking promising

Thanks three and festi. I'm just sooo scared. I'm willing my body to be pg (aren't we all!) but seeing as this coming cycle is supposed to be our first month TTC I'm sort of not prepared for it! The restraint is killing me! I'm thinking of buying a test today and doing it tomorrow morning but I might chicken out. It's consuming every single waking thought at the mo...! Have told DP I'm late. He's cool about it but doesn't quite get that this is so rare for me. ie THE ENORMITY OF ME BEING LATE!

OMG!!!!
