Freak Out Room For Those Newly Updiffed After M/C Part VIII

dooscooby · 20/07/2011 12:53

Just found out you are pregnant after a previous miscarriage and too nervous to move over the to pregnancy boards? Freaking out about spotting, cramping, symptoms (or lack there of) and nervously awaiting your first scan? Here is a lovely place for lot's of support, hand holding and problem sharing.

Courtesy of owlbooty here are the Ten Commandments of the Freak Out Room.

  1. Thou shalt check thy knickers to the point of insanity until the baby actually arrives.
  2. Thou shalt also check the loo roll post-wipeage (sorry, gross, I know)
  3. Thou shalt bore thy physician and midwife to tears with the mentalling.
  4. And thy husband/boyfriend/family/neighbour's cat.
  5. Thou shalt obsess over the absence of symptoms.
  6. And the presence of symptoms.
  7. And the fluctuation of symptoms.
  8. Thou shalt pee on a vast number of sticks and keep ClearBlue and First Response in business.
  9. The day before any scan extreme mentalling is permitted without recourse to the Haddock.
10. Self-diagnosis with Dr Google is Forbidden.

The Haddock will be applied liberally to all transgressors.

katit will be fine.think positive
pointyi'm drinking some peppermint tea everyday

StickThemWithThePointyEnd · 25/09/2011 10:22

drink lots of water lime, it might help a bit. (personally, the stupid amounts of courgette seem to work...)

kat good luck, I know The Fear too well.

digi hiiii! thought it was time to come out of the woodwork again and join in the mentalling here, rather than going over it in my head all the time.

still spotting slightly, but will trust my GP when she says she thinks it is from my cervix.. although she has obviously got no idea about drugs withdrawal, considering what she put me through over the last few days.

kat2504 · 25/09/2011 10:05

keep ticking off those days limeflower every one that passes is a good sign.
I have lost the eating like mad thing.

8 days to my booking scan....am amazed to have made it so far but The Fear is really starting to set in now. I am in total terror of another mmc after seeing it alive twice this time. Perhaps I should get a doppler after all. I have avoided it so far to prevent even more mentalling.

Off to see the folks today for a nice sunday lunch, Guess who is driving?

LimeFlower · 25/09/2011 09:52

Morning everybody,how are you?
I'm grateful for every day that passes.Still eating like mad and no symptoms-except yawning straight away after getting up and constipation-haven't been to the loo in the last 2 days(sorry if TMI).Cough eased off a bit.

digi you must be some kind of legend on Conception board Smile

LivinInTheMoment · 24/09/2011 15:47

Digi I don't think i'm due another scan til my wk 28 appointment, so thats a long way away... :(
But i'll be back to the GP in 5wks so he will listen with the doppler.
Hopefully i'll soon start feeling kicks and movements so that will keep me going.

digitalgirl · 24/09/2011 15:07

Waves at pointy/ivy and AandR very exciting to have you on this thread!

Welcome lime

notnow glad to hear you were well taken care of. Hope you savoured that rare steak and glass of wine last night. Belated birthday wishes.

Lucky you getting a scan with your booking in livin. Do you still get your 20 week one?

I have another scan (private one this time) on Monday. And then my first GTT on the 5th - bleurgh. Not a fan of those. The hospital midwife called me at home yesterday to tell me they'd messed up my blood group test - was a little disconcerting to get a call at home but thankfully it wasn't serious.

Had a very productive day yesterday - day off with ds - but am flagging now and struggling to keep my eyes open at my inlaws (which is tedious at the best of times). DH, annoyingly, told MIL when I didn't really want them knowing till after the dating scan. He's informed her that I'm not talking about it as that is the main reason I didn't want them knowing. I just don't like talking about it with other people.

Notnow happy birthday and glad you startin to feel better.
Stickthem congrats on twins! and welcome back :)

So had my bookin in apmt yesterday it was grand. No waiting around at all. Had my bloods taken, scan and meeting with midwife. All went grand and was in and out in no time. The scan gave me a new EDD, i am now due in February not March! So thats fine by me! Got another set of pictures of baba to take home too.
I'll update the list to show my new dates now.

hi to all !
Leaves chocolate chip brownies and big pot of decaff for everyone x

LadyMaybe · 24/09/2011 11:50

Hi pointy I remember you as IvyS - I was ladybee. Congratulations on your twins Grin
boodleboot are you out there? Did you have a re-scan this week or is it still go come? Hope all is good with you.
AandR lovely to see you here, hope you do stick around. My EWCM always cleared the day after ov, if its the same for you then dates would be a little later. Yolk sac is also good, shows normal development thus far.
I have been soooo lazy today, but feel better for it, no sickness and less overall nausea. Won't get the same opportunity tomorrow unfortunately, off to see the inlaws. Hope I can stay awake after lunch!

LimeFlower · 24/09/2011 11:32

notnow I'm sorry for your loss.Unfortunately some people open their mouth before they think.
Ladyglad the scan went well
pointytwins-gosh,I always wanted twinsEnvy
LAF,there's always something to worry about, lack of symptoms, too many symptoms, twinges, pains and goodness knows what else.
googie have you booked your app yet?

I still have no symptoms at all,not even peeing more often.Just sore boobs and that's it.Eating loads though.I'm trying to ignore the fact that I'm pg hoping that it will keep me away from freaking out and sitting with my head in my pants.
Glad I'm going to the doc on Monday as started coughing-rattling like a skeleton in the biscuit tin.
Noticed EDD buddy on May thread-still lurking.

Bloody BBC promised good weather full of sunshine-the washing machine is loaded and it's lashing down outside.Should've known better bloody BBC forecasts.

Off to check the fridge-I'd like to munch something(again).Hope all of you will have a nice weekend Smile

StickThemWithThePointyEnd · 24/09/2011 11:18

they run in the family, so not surprised, but still shocked..

as for due dates, I only have a provisional date so far but was 5+5 at scan last week, but will have another soon to calculate some more.

kat2504 · 24/09/2011 10:54

Fantastic news A&R. In my opinion, if you ovulated after day 14, 5+4 is spot on. My 6ish weeks scan was 3 days behind what i thought it should be but it got the days back by 9 weeks.
Have everything crossed for your scan next Friday, hope you see a really lovely heartbeat!

AandRMum · 24/09/2011 10:51

Hi All, Just peeking in really as I am not sure if I will get to stay - had a 6 week scan on Friday but no fetal pole yet so they dated me at 5w+4. I ov'd sometime between day 15-18 (EWCM stopped on day 18) so I am hoping it is just a bit early - just hoping there are some happy stories on here about dates being out ... Next scan is on Friday. I completely relate to all the knicker checking stories !! I am so leaky (tmi) it is not funny ...

Welcome pointy - twins how brilliant. I really don't get due dates - I am not 7w until next Friday but the EDD I have been given is the 17th May?!

Biscuitsandtea · 24/09/2011 10:37

Well that's fab news Pointy - were you expecting twins or were they a surprise? xx

kat2504 · 24/09/2011 09:09

Twins!! congratulations Pointy!

StickThemWithThePointyEnd · 24/09/2011 08:43

will be 7 weeks on wednesday, but we are still in the realm of estimating a bit as on twin 1 and 2 seem to be a couple of days out.

Biscuitsandtea · 24/09/2011 08:28

Welcome Pointy - and congratulations.

How many weeks does an edd of 20 May make you? (Maths brain not engaged yet this morning! Blush)

LAF77 · 24/09/2011 07:32

Congratulations pointy (if I may call you that) and welcome!

StickThemWithThePointyEnd · 23/09/2011 23:47

Was on here a while ago, some people may remember me as IvySedai.
vv early days but have had two scans and we picked up tiny heartbeats on the dildocam last week.
EDD 20th may, babies #3&#4.

bigmacandhappymeal · 23/09/2011 20:16

notnow I'm so sorry to hear your news. Hopefully we'll see you back here very very soon xx

I noticed that the dates on the grads bit had gone a bit skewiff so I hope you don't mind me updating the list? Hopefully I haven't totally knackered it up :)

Wishing you all a restful and uneventful weekend

Oh I am so sorry for the shit birthday timing. My last mc was over my birthday too and it was bollocks. But I'm glad that you are doing ok and have been treated well. You enjoy that glass of wine now!

notnowImreading · 23/09/2011 19:16

Hello everyone - thanks for all the nice wishes. I'm nearly all finished now, I think, and starting to feel a lot better. I went back to work today and had lots to catch up on so plenty to think about and keep me occupied. I told anyone who asked me why I had been off work and I have to say that everyone's been brilliant and supportive. Although, I could have done without my (male, sixty-something) headteacher telling me that 'the worst thing is having to go back to having sex according to a temperature chart'. Ew ew ew ew ew. It's weird, but the miscarriage (awful in itself) has not seemed the worst thing - it's been a strange kind of relief from worrying about miscarrying every second of the day. The EPAU were great too. After everything I've read on here, I was really worrying about going in for the scan to confirm the miscarriage. They had a separate waiting room for the people like me who weren't going for happy scans and a screened off area of that waiting room for when you come out weeping. No one said anything crass and even the medical student who had a really good look up my fanjo with a very bright light was delightful. The number of people who have seen my lady-parts in my whole life doubled on Wednesday! It's my birthday today and when I went in for the 48 hour blood test for ectopic, the phlebotomist asked me to confirm my date of birth, said 'Oh, happy birthday,' then looked at the list of blood tests requested and said 'Oh, not such a happy birthday' and that is absolutely the worst thing that anyone's managed to say to me - not too shabby, I thought. The NHS must be either getting better or very good locally. Everyone I've talked to has managed to make me feel better rather than worse. Obviously two miscarriages in three months aren't a good thing, but I don't feel as psychologically scarred as I thought I was going to.

Good luck to all of you. I'm going to enjoy the one up-side with a big glass of wine and a rare steak for my birthday tea. xx

Moominsummermadness · 23/09/2011 19:01

Glad that the scan went well Lady.

Laf, I'm ok thanks. Still having some brownish discharge on and off, really counting down the days til I can have the 12 week scan. 2 weeks to go still though. It does seem crazy about the EPAU referral procedure- I think it's because they simply don't have the resources to cope with seeing too many patients. I live in a medium-sized town, which has it's own hospital, but deals with patients from quite a wide area. The EPAU is only open mornings, Monday to Friday, and there is one midwife and one sonographer on duty at a time. The midwife on duty has to take phonecalls from patients while seeing other patients (I know this as I had to ring them to obtain BHCG results), so I think they are already over-stretched. I guess things vary across the country, I know that our local hospital has struggled funding-wise, someone I work with couldn't have a much needed hysterectomy until the new financial year because all non-emergencies operations were cancelled. The maternity buiding needs ripping down and replacing- this was planned a few years ago, but due to budget cuts the plans were scrapped. I wish I could just self-refer, but then part of me really doesn't want to have to go back to the horrible EPAU! I guess I will just have to see how things pan out for now, there is always the option of A & E should the bleeding properly come on with a vengeance. (Hope not!!)

I can empathise with everyone who is struggling to look at things 'long term'. Despite me not even being 11 weeks yet, people at work keep talking to me about the pregnancy as there is no denying that I look pregnant! Questions like, "How's the baby doing?" are really difficult to answer!! I feel like saying, "I'm not sure, as I don't really know myself yet" !!

Biscuitsandtea · 23/09/2011 16:06

Good news on the scan Lady :)

Agree re the knicker checking too - I sometimes wonder, after so long of TTC and the mc worry, what it would be like to not be anxiously searching for something every time I go to the toilet. Imagine just stress-free toileting based on demand rather than panic levels. Crazy.......
