Just found out you are pregnant after a previous miscarriage and too nervous to move over the to pregnancy boards? Freaking out about spotting, cramping, symptoms (or lack there of) and nervously awaiting your first scan? Here is a lovely place for lot's of support, hand holding and problem sharing.

Courtesy of owlbooty here are the Ten Commandments of the Freak Out Room.

  1. Thou shalt check thy knickers to the point of insanity until the baby actually arrives.
  2. Thou shalt also check the loo roll post-wipeage (sorry, gross, I know)
  3. Thou shalt bore thy physician and midwife to tears with the mentalling.
  4. And thy husband/boyfriend/family/neighbour's cat.
  5. Thou shalt obsess over the absence of symptoms.
  6. And the presence of symptoms.
  7. And the fluctuation of symptoms.
  8. Thou shalt pee on a vast number of sticks and keep ClearBlue and First Response in business.
  9. The day before any scan extreme mentalling is permitted without recourse to the Haddock.
10. Self-diagnosis with Dr Google is Forbidden.

The Haddock will be applied liberally to all transgressors.

Welcome, pointy and aandr.

Shellshock, we did it once my initial spotting had stopped for 2 weeks, and it was fine, but after the next time, I had some more spotting the day after, so I'm a bit wary now.

digi, hope the scan has gone ok.

kat, I'm feeling The Fear too. I've got 11 days til my scan, and I feel the same as you about mine. It's nearly 5 weeks since I saw my 6 week bean on the scan, and dreading being told the worst. Fingers crossed everything will be fine for both of us! I don't know how I'll get through the morning at work beforehand, I will be a nervous wreck. My nausea has virtually gone now, and I'm not even 12 weeks yet. Hoping that it's just that I've got to the stage where my body has adjusted to the hormones.

(waves to everyone else).

shellshock7 · 26/09/2011 16:55

Agree with stitch too that I haven't felt well enough anyway for a lot of the time, I think maybe that's where this train of thought is coming from...got my iron dosage upped last week and feel a bit like I am coming out of the other side...which is prob why we almost DTD at the weekend and why I'm considering it a bit now...maybe after the next scan would be a good time like you say stitch thanks Smile

Biscuitsandtea · 26/09/2011 16:39

Ditto LAF Blush

LAF77 · 26/09/2011 16:33

Have to admit we haven't. I have zero libido and I'm scared as I'd hate to see blood afterwards!

stitchinline · 26/09/2011 16:15

shellshock we have once and that was just after we had the 16 week scan so I felt ok about it then - I did have lots of anxiety about it early on but now thinking I might be ok with the occasional go Blush. Have berm sick since then so nothing more since then.

kat2504 · 26/09/2011 16:12

I've done it a few times. I had a scare at 6+5 with some spotting and didn't do it again until 9 weeks, had another a couple of days ago. So probably about 5 times since conception and I'm 11+4 now!

shellshock7 · 26/09/2011 15:47

Quick question then on reading the last few posts - personal so don't anwser if you don't want to!

But have people started to DTD then? We still haven't since the BFP Blush DH is fine about it, and we almost did the other morning but I was worried I'd get upset afterwards or panic for days so we didn't?

He thinks that we just won't do it now till after, but that seems a bit crazy in the cold light of day, but perfectly sensible at anytime it is on the cards!

stitchinline · 26/09/2011 14:49

Well I?ll try to catch up but apologies if I miss anyone, been lurking but a combination of things meant I haven?t posted for a while. Have had my parents over visiting, been doing a little travelling and also have the most hideous sinus infection / sore throat / cold and cough that I think is possible to have. Seriously bemoaning the lack of drug taking at this point in time.

digi hope everything is ok at the scan today, i was too scared to dtd for ages in case it unsettled things and I just knew I?d be a basket case if i had any spotting. Poor dh has been very understanding.

Also my boobs have not changed in size at all, but i do now have a bump ? it popped out at pretty much 16 weeks. I also had crampy pains and back ache and generally af feelings for quite awhile, now I can definitely tell it is ligament but before it was hard to distinguish the difference. I am glad I had the 16 week scan to break up the wait between the 12 and 20 week one, it has definitely helped the mentalling for me. No movements here yet.

limeflower i eat five dried apricots a day (yep i count them out) and also find drinking apple juice helps things move along

lady yay for a good scan last week and fx for you for the next one

Welcome googie, i had my first scan at 9 weeks which was a good time for me, had also prev seen a hb and then mc so wanted to wait a bit longer this time

Welcome also to pointy and aandr

scarlett thinking of you for your scan on wednesday

Waves to biscuits, shellshock, LAF, kat, livin, moomin and any lurkling grads

To all those getting dopplers i second shellshock on not trying for ages to find the hb, in fact i couldn?t get it at all until nearly 16 weeks so after trying a couple of times unsuccessfully before then put it in the back of the cupboard for a couple of weeks. Last night as I was quite worried and nearly flipped out when I couldn?t find it but dh did a very methodical scan and found it for me. Didn?t get a good listen as it must have been wriggling all over the place but it was enough to make me a bit less stressed.

Haematologist rang last week when I was away to say my blood test the week before was a bit low and she wanted to increase my fragmin dose so now on 7500 in the morning and 5000 at night. So very nervous that either my being so poorly or not increasing the fragmin dose soon enough will have affected the bean but guess I?ll know more in a couple of weeks. GP gave me some antibiotics this morning so hopefully that will help clear things up and I?ll feel a bit better. I seriously thought I was through the worst of my ms but this last week has just been hideous, being in Italy and not being able to eat is like torture!

LAF77 · 26/09/2011 14:26

Thank goodness you have a scan today digi to put your mind at rest. I know how you feel. The sight of blood drives me to despair.

Thinking of you.

Velvetcu · 26/09/2011 13:29

Digi I hope everything's ok this afternoon. I had lots of brown goo episodes and bleeding up until 14 weeks. I know that doesn't help though!

Biscuitsandtea · 26/09/2011 13:22

Digi keeping everything crossed for your scan this arvo. As everyone else says The bleeding is hopefully nothing but I know nothing will set your mind at rest apart from a scan so good luck xx

I am sure I am just fretting over nothing, but I think my stressing has gradually reduced a I went past the 8 and 12 week scans and has reached its minimum level and will remain here until I'm taking a baby home I think! There may be a slight decrease I'n stress (not visible to the naked eye) when I am getting regular movements.

Hope everyone else is doing ok xx

shellshock7 · 26/09/2011 13:10

Sorry to read everyone is having a bit of a bad time at the mo, fingers crossed all is well for us all and it is just mentalling.

Biscuits I felt first flutters at 15+6, confirmed by midwife at 16+1 so it might not be that long for you now Smile

I also bought the cheaper angel sounds doppler and highly recommend it, has reduced my mentalling greatly - only advice I would give is don't try to find HB for ages, if you can't find it after a minute put it away, have a big drink and wait till you are bursting for the loo and try again. It got me stressed at first trying for 5 mins or so unsuccessfully so DH made me do it this way and it is MUCH better!

scarletfingernail · 26/09/2011 12:53

digi I'll be thinking of you at your scan this afternoon and hoping all is well.
I'm sure it will all be fine. Most bleeding in pregnancy doesn't mean the worst and there are loads of posts all over MN about bleeding in pregnancy after sex.

Biscuits everything is fine. You've had 2 fantastic scans and there is no reason to think that anything has changed. Second trimester MC is very rare as we all know, so just think you have got the worst part over now (1st trimester) and in another few weeks you will be able to feel your baby wriggling about.

Ha, says me! I'm am the most pessimistic person when it comes to myself. I am also mentalling today after having weird pains all weekend. Got a scan on Wednesday morning which should hopefully show a 10 week baby, but I won't sleep for the next 2 nights worrying about it.

LadyMaybe · 26/09/2011 12:07

Gah! Bloody phone!

Erm, oh yes, less boob-ache too, although sitting here in bed I am forcing myself to remember that I woke up feeling shitty as per usual. Sigh. Anyway, will find out what's what soon enough.

Sympathy to those nervous post 12 weeks, I do remember it as being a really hard time with DS. A month or so of absolute limbo. Things all kicked off me at 17 weeks, that's when I first felt movement I was sure were movements and also HAD to switch to maternity stuff.

LadyMaybe · 26/09/2011 12:02

Ah digi I'm just heading to bed and sincerely wish that when I log in again in the morning I'll see a line from you saying everything is ok. I think it is more likely to be a bit of cervix irritation than anything else, esP with no cramping.

I'm also putting the freak out room to good use as have had quite a crampy/backache day, which is a pre-AF feeling and makes me wonder why I'd be feeling like that unless it's all over for me. Less nausea and b

kat2504 · 26/09/2011 11:49

digi so sorry you have to go through this stress. As you know, lots of us, myself included, have had the spotting.
I will be thinking of you this afternoon and hoping so much that it is good news for you.

zombiebanana · 26/09/2011 11:42

digitalgirl

Oooh, lots of sympathy for the stress . . .

Good luck for your scan this afternoon.

digitalgirl · 26/09/2011 11:40

In keeping with the title of thread I am officially freaking out today. Had a brown blob appear when I went to the loo last night. Nothing since and no cramping. But all my miscarriages have started with a bit of brown spotting Sad.
Am really hoping it's from when DH and I had sex on Sat morning (first time since bfp). But I can't help being on high alert now. Have a scan this afternoon at 4.40.
Sorry for me me me post. I see these 'oh shit I'm spotting' posts all the time on here and it always works out fine. I really really hope it's the same for me. Supposed to be 11 weeks.

kat2504 · 26/09/2011 10:34

Ha I look like I have eaten too many cakes anyway recently. I put on a stone after the last mc so I just look generally a bit fat and I'm sure nobody would notice any difference yet. How rude though for someone to make that remark to you!!

LAF77 · 26/09/2011 10:13

biscuits I ordered the angel sounds from Amazon that was £25. I couldn't justify £80. Maybe it will drive me crazier, but hopefully not. People think once you pass 12 weeks, you can relax, unfotunately, I can't! My scan does seem ages ago. I am seeing the consultant tomorrow to get my karyotyping results. I think that they are ok, cos if there was a problem, they would have seen me sooner than now. Maybe she can reassure me tomorrow.

Thanks for the words of wisdom about the bleeding Kat it's comforting to be here because no one really understands what I'm going through in RL.

I on the other hand do look pg. A colleague commented on my boobs, another one asked if I had eaten too many cakes. I try not to get upset by it cos people have no idea what I've been through!

kat2504 · 26/09/2011 07:19

Thanks everyone! I just wish I had a little bump, or bigger boobs or anything convincing. I neither look nor feel pregnant.

googie according to the internet 3 scans are routine in France 11-13 weeks, 21-24 weeks and 33 weeks. Of course, if you/your insurer will pay, you could have one privately at 9 weeks and then the normal one at 12-13 weeks.

laff I have had bleeding after epic constipation. Although I managed to ascertain, by means of rooting around up there, that it definitely was not coming from the front. I think the strain of constipation can break the small blood capillaries up your bum.

Biscuitsandtea · 26/09/2011 07:06

Oh, but just for reference *LAF, which Doppler did you order?

Biscuitsandtea · 26/09/2011 07:00

LAF, I'm with you on the mentalling front! The 12 week scan seems so long ago and it just feels as though nothing is happening now. I feel less queasy etc (which I know is supposed to happen in the second trimester) but haven't started feeling any kicks or anything yet. I'm only 14 weeks tomorrow so I wouldn't expect kicks yet but it is just that feeling of not knowing what is going on. I have a bit of a bump but have done for weeks and certainly since before the 12 week scan, and obv you can't tell if it is getting bigger day by day (iyswim - it doesn't change appreciably from one day to the next) so I am just frightened something will have gone wrong Sad

I thought about a doppler but I wasn't sure at what stage you should be able to find the hb yourself? I wouldn't want to start panicking myself by not being able to find something and it really just be my incompetence!

Morning to everyone else.

Googie that is a tricky thing to gave to pick the times yourself. How many scans do you want / are you allowed to have? 8 weeks is a good time but given your history it might not be that reassuring Sad. What if you waited until say 9 or 10 weeks? Can you then have another one at 12 or so weeks? Do they do anything like the dating / nuchal scan we have here? Does anyone co-ordinate your care or advise you?

Kat you're doing great - we're rooting for you. Smile

xx

LAF77 · 26/09/2011 05:41

good morning everyone. DH leaves for work at 5, so I'm up early! I've caved in an ordered a doppler this morning. I am panicking every day. I've had nightmares about losing the baby and I had a tiny pin point sized drop of blood on the loo roll yesterday. It came after an epic constipation session and seemed to come from the front, but maybe it was related to the back. Anyway, I haven't seen anymore of it, but I am still mentalling.

I think that I will talk to the midwife about counselling because I don't want to feel this hysteria all day long. However, I feel like if I don't consider the worst, I'll be unprepared if it happens. It's not fair to the baby though. I checked that what to expect when you are expecting book on Friday and inadvertently found myself in the miscarriage chapter. It said that second trimester miscarriages have a 1 in 1000 chance of happening. As there aren't 1,000 of us on the thread, we should all be safe :-) Most 2nd trimester miscarriages are due to infections (like toxoplasmosis) or incompetent cervix. I'm pretty sure I don't have an incompetent cervix as the sonographer made a point of telling me that it was 4cm at the scan and that was good.

limeflower copious quantities of dried apricots will get things going. I guarantee it!

I'm sorry that DH spilled the beans for you digi I know how annoying it can be when people know and you don't want them to. Ironically, it is often the people closest to us that can be the last to know because it can be the trickiest to tell them.

glad to see you back here aandr

it must have been good to see the baby again livin

you've come a long way kat we are cheering you on. Just think, you are on treatment this time, the pg is far more likely to have a better outcome. (I suppose I could give myself the same talk).

googie I think 8 weeks is a good time to have a scan. How many can you have in France? Could you go back at 10 and 12 weeks?

googietheegg · 25/09/2011 13:11

Hi all, how's everyone feeling today?
I went to the doctor last week and he's given me a letter to take for a blood test to confirm it, then I need to go to the gyne. As I'm in France it's all a bit different here - not very joined up but everyone's helpful - so when I told the GP I was pregnant again he said 'what happened last time? did you have a baby?' so I started to say about the mmc but ended up having a little cry. What a twat I am! I pulled it together quickly though thankfully.

Last time, I heard the heartbeat at the 8 week scan but had an mmc at 11 weeks (after one tiny spot of blood made me make an emergency appointment) so I don't know whether to wait til after 8 weeks this time? when do you think is best for the first scan? It's all private here so I can make my own appointment.
