TTC 6+ months plus, part 2

Hi all.
I've got another thread on conception about TTC for over a year and was advised to come join this thread.

It's now been just short of 14 months since I came off the pill and nothing has happened so far.

I've decided I'm going to book an appointment with my GP tomorrow but I'm nervous. What should I say? What should I expect? I'm worried they'll just tell me I'm young so not to worry about it. I've also suffered from health anxiety so I worried they'll think I'm panicking about nothing.

Oh spirita that's rubbish, such a shame that you'll miss next month. Shag away when you can though, just in case. Clearly our bodies are a mystery to us so best to cover as many basis as possible!

Haven't read the link yet joycep re flossing, but I'm a bit lax in that department. Great, something else to worry about, along with my age, low Bmi, wine guzzling, caffeine partaking and everything else you care to mention .

I also think period pains must be catching as ive been quite sore today, which is unusual. Sore enough to need painkillers, albeit we appear only to have co-codamol which is probably overkill!

that reminds me to book a dentist appointment! It still says it only took the women with gum disease an average of 7 months though

Sorry that AF arrived nelly and you have spotting spirita. It does seem that lots of you ladies on this thread have synced your cycles! I don't really know where I am in my cycle, I think I might be 5dpo.

I just tell everyone I know that I don't want kids. Stops them asking daft questions for the most part.

Am now on proper CD1 so full on . the only plus is that as I had a longer cycle this month, it now means OH and I won't be apart for fertile time, Every cloud and all that...?

Glad I'm not the only secretive one amongst us. I hadn't mentioned to my mum about ttc, and so haven't said anything about having to go for tests. She's just so keen that I don't want to say anything to encourage her. I guess if it's identified that we might struggle to conceive I'll have to say something, but I'll keep shtum for now...

Sorry it took me ages to catch back up with this... I saw the Doc last Tues (different doc and he was FIT which was rather embarrassing) and again he took the whole thing very seriously and gave me an immediate referal. I even had quite a few hospitals to choose from and I went for one which was an 'fertility and reproductive medicine' department rather than gynae - the department had really good reviews on a thread on FF. Appointment is 10th Aug and I'm pretty nervous.

pout sorry to have mentioned the endo, but definitely they should give you a laproscopy with your symptoms. They can operate on it which apparently results in future pregnancy in 40 % of cases.

Ladies, you should be aware that the leaflet in the mefemanic acid box says not to take it if ttc. I discovered this when I was so bored waiting for a delayed plane that I had resorted to reading the leaflet (it was that or do some work). Arguably, if you are only taking them for the first couple of days of your period, that should be well away from ov time, but I have stopped them just to be safe.

Hmm joycep yes perhaps you have thought about poor Kate's dilemma a teeny bit too much . But bloody hell I can't believe your boss opens your mail. To be fair, I work in a VERY large office and they have a no-personal-parcels policy, as they'd have to pay a couple of members of staff just to distribute them; so in those circumstances I can maybe understand (ie all parcels should be work related). But that's pretty rare I think? Maybe order a bunch of books with titles like "sexual discrimination in the workplace" or "start your own business" or something!

buggerlugs hello - great name! That's quite a long cycle you have . I hope the drug does it's stuff soon. In the meantime, kick back with us and muse about Royal procreation (yuck). Whilst we are on the subject, I have to say that Wills definitely had his best days aged about 18. Poor Kate.

Ooh spirita good luck. I'm still not quite on CD1, but trying not to let my mind wander - I always get a couple of days like this. Like you if it still hasn't kicked off properly by Wednesday I will re-test, but I'm sure that won't be necessary. However I am on 15DPO and CD29, which is my longest cycle in a year, my average has been 25 since we started TTC.

Don't worry about the HSG. It wasn't painful. I would just advise not Googling it before hand because all that did was make me worry, needlessly!

Spirita I will at least ask my GP about the painkillers you mention, thanks for that info. At the moment I take one Solpadeine soluble with 1 Ibubrofen because nothing else touches it & that is the best combination I've come up with.

Madness I thought that I was being a bit weedy too but I honestly dread AF not just because it means I'm not preggers. Can we be all overly dramatic together

I can't even enjoy sitting in the garden being childless and carefree because I have spotted a huge hornet buzzing around - it's a conspiracy I tell you!

I hate buying anything TTC related, I even hide my vitamins at the bottom of the trolley. It does make you feel like you are some naughty teenager who shouldn't even be having sex let alone having a baby. When we were showing our house I used to have to do a sweep of the place to hide any TTC paraphenalia.

Joycep you have one nosey boss! at your analysis of how Kate could get TTC contraband into the palace.

She couldn?t even get her mum or dad to do it on the sly as the paps will follow them too! But even internet shopping, she would have to get it sent to Kensington Palace and that would be a bit obvious. Oh I have clearly thought about this far too much.

Nelly I am always paranoid about going in to Boots and being seen. What i normally do is, i stand quite far back from the shelves and eye what i need from a distance. I then scan the shop before pouncing on conceive plus or pregnancy tests. I then keep a very beady eye out when i?m in the queue and I pray the cashier puts them all straight in to the bag instead of waving them around for everyone to see. I always feel so embarrassed by it , as if i?m a teenager or doing something illegal. And you are right about getting things by post. I ordered some books on Amazon, thank god it wasn?t my fertility book as I came in one morning to the office to find my boss had opened them. He loves opening my post!

Well I guess there is always internet shopping for Kate . I have to say, the other day when I farcically had to PO3S before I got a valid test, I was close to stomping out to the shops to buy an expensive digi one. But actually I'm terrified of being seen by someone I know. I'm actually thinking of ordering a couple of fertility books but I'm away for the weekend and Mum is house sitting. I'm terrified they will arrive and she'll open it, or the box will have a sticker on the outside or something. I feel like it's my dirty little secret, which is ridiculous. And that's without the world's press watching every move.

pixie I don't think the camera ultrasound can check if your tubes are blocked, I think you need a hsg for that but not had one of those so can't tell you what it's like. I think the fear of these things is always worse than the actual procedure though and the worst part is how undignified the whole thing is.

When Kate bought some face cream from Boots the photos were plastered all over so don't know how she is going to buy her sperm friendly lube, conception vitamins, OPKs, grapefruit juice, pregnancy tests etc. It's not as though she can just get her sister to get them either or that would be front page news too.

God imagine if you were Kate and you couldn't seem to get pregnant. What an awful pressure! Anyway, she will be fine. But I was thinking the other day, who would she send off to go and get pregnancy tests or ovulation sticks and folic acid or other ladies stuff?! I presume the royal gynae would bring them to her. Intriguing.

happystressed - I was reading some other posts deep in MN somewhere, where a lady was told by her new gynae that for her old gynae to have put her on clomid was irresponsible because she was ovulating already. I have read this more than once. But my gynae doesn't see a problem with it. I think people who go to have IUI are put on clomid even if they ovulate as it's suppose to give you more of a chance. But like everything there is differing advice!

Pixie - welcome. Good luck with your scan on Friday. first ones are always a bit nerveracking but i'm sure it will be all fine. I had the hSG where they put dye through your tubes as has Pout. I'm not sure cameras can check this. Anyway if you do have it done, that is also ok so don't worry about that. Like all these things, the most awful thing about them, is the undignified positions you have to get yourself in to .

Pout - you have to get up twice in the night?? That's awful and very irritating. I find I wake up with excruciating kidney pain in the early morning if I need the loo. It only started about 4 years ago. It subsides as soon as I go.
It's difficult to know what level of pain is normal during AF. Obviously some people suffer more than others but considering you are trying to conceive, I would have thought it would be something to look in to. Perhaps we all should get one done on this thread! My gynae mentioned it to me last time as well but I would get it done on the nhs if i did go down that route.

Thanks MrsDen. Do you know whether they're likely to be able to tell much about fallopian tubes (assuming they use the camera). Only that when I saw the GP she said refer me to have dye put through them, but they seem to have changed their minds on that. Have to admit I was a bit relieved as I'd heard that was more painful than the camera.

welcome pixie, don't worry about the camera. I had it a few weeks ago and it didn't hurt at all and wasn't even uncomfortable. Much better than having a smear. Also, it was really quick. As soon as she put it in the Doctor could see my uterus and then looked at each ovary. If they know what they're doing, they can quickly establish if all looks ok. I think it took no more than 10 mins in total.

thatway I was thinking the same as you, I am going to make a point of doing all the things that my pregnant friends and friends with children can't over the next few months and then I am going to boast, boast, boast about it to them!

Wow the thread has been busy today! Sorry about the ruination of your weekend for so many. I'm not actually sure I'm on CD1 yet, as I'm still spotting; but I am only deluding myself to think it's anything other than a BFD this month. I've had a moan on the other thread I'm on, so will just say again here.

It certainly seems bizarre about the different levels of interest/options for fertility testing that are available across the country. I've only really had the first lot of blood tests so far, but I think I got lucky with the GP I saw. For instance he said that something wasn't recommended to be tested unless you were 37, but I pointed out I would be in a few weeks, so he arranged the test anyway. Re the sperm analysis, OH was advised it should be between 3 and 7 days since his last effort - hence I made him have sex yesterday .

I agree pout that having to take so many painkillers doesn't seem normal. Yes there are differing pain thresholds, but not by that much! Pushing for further tests seems like a good plan, fingers crossed it's helpful in the end.

Hello pixie, welcome :). Now the really important question - have you had a big wedding and been to Canada recently . Eek at the dildo-cam, though I've been told it's not too uncomfortable. Like you, I feel better knowing that investigations are being started. Better to know what you are dealing with, I think.
