Me and hubby have been "trying" for a baby for a year now and unfortunately still no luck. Admittedly we were not particularly focused (!) at the beginning but now we are fully temping and opking and still bfn.
my logical side knows that this doesn't necessarily mean there is something wrong. I've just turned thirty so that will reduce our chances per cycle too.

I guess I just wanted a quick straw poll of mumsnetters to see what the average is for people. So...... How long did it take for you?

just to add a curved ball in - my DP (we're a gay couple) took 7 tries (home insemination, so timing critical etc, took us a while to work out what we were doing; also some months we missed for various practical reasons) and a mmc for DD1 (now 2.5) at 38; our DD2 took 3 goes, at 41. Glad to say that we can throw all our fertility paraphernalia away now - baby due in November!

FWIW I tried for 9 months, nada, nothing, but I was rather old.

Rainydaze · 13/06/2011 21:17

Sorry, I was aged 28.

Rainydaze · 13/06/2011 21:17

Came off the pill after 12 years. Was pregnant the following week!

BlooferLady · 13/06/2011 21:15

TTCing about 18 months for #1 - no luck so far. All tests clear and bonny for us both. I'm 31, DH 37. It is, to quote the docs, purely a matter of statistics Grin.

All these are giving me hope. My view is very firmly that physiological issues aside, it's all totally random. I second the advice to go the GP after a year for an MOT if you're over 30...

RockStockAndTwoOpenBottles · 13/06/2011 21:10

DD1 - 1 month, aged 22
DD2 - Wasn't TTC, 1st time after having DD1, 11 months between them, aged 23, obviously
DS- no idea I was pregnant til 5 months gone and he arrived at 6 months, aged 25
DD3 - 2 weeks after having the Mirena coil removed pregnant aged 38

headfairy · 13/06/2011 21:05

1st pregnancy aged 36 (when I conceived) - 18 months
2nd pregnancy aged 39 - 2 months (I'd sussed it out by then)

in between I had two miscarriages, and each of those I conceived in 1 or two months.

Hulababy · 13/06/2011 21:05

DD - 15m, early mc, the another 14/15m.

Started TTC for #2 when DD was 2y. She's now 9y - so 7y, two OPs, hormone treatement, Clomid - and still nothing. TBF I am not doing anything in particular these days, just not doing anything to prevent it.

duckdodgers · 13/06/2011 21:01

DS1 - approx 5 months (age 22)
DS2 - approx 18 months (aged 30)
DS3 - approx 6 months (aged 37)

Now trying again aged 40, for 10 months now and nothing yet.

Doitnicelyplease · 13/06/2011 20:17

DD (now 2.9) - 14 months - age 31
MC1 - 1 month - age 33
MC2 - 1 month = age 33

Still trying for DC # 2 Sad

havealittlefaithbaby · 13/06/2011 19:08

I'm 29 btw Dh is 26 (whippersnapper). We will be trying very early in.cycle cos I seem to be ovulating between cd8 and cd13!

Comfychair · 13/06/2011 19:04

Ninjachipmunk and showofhands - We've been thinking about going to see the GP as well but personally I've been really nervous about it as I thought it would make it feel more like there was a "problem".
looking back through my diary it's probably been just over ten and a half months so far so we have decided to just see how it goes for the next cycle and if no luck we'll be making an appointment then.
Thanks for all the replies......... it's so nice to hear from other people who have had different experiences as I find it a private issue and don't talk to many people in real life about it.

Fingers crossed !!!

About 15 months with my DD and DS (due in July). I am 39. Frequency seems to play a role, as did not counting too closely (i.e. just doing it every day). Have to admit it didn't make for great sex and it all felt rather utilitarian but it's the results that count! Did get rather worried about getting too old when trying to conceive my DS so had the tests done at my doctors but got the results back (all fine) the same day I found out I was pregnant.

mandoo · 13/06/2011 13:46

DS aged 28 4 months
Current pregnancy aged 31 5months.

Some of my friends have been trying for a lot longer, up to 2 years to conceive.

Good luck, hope it happens soon for you :)

JenniL1977 · 13/06/2011 13:41

42 months, IUI pregnancy (am 31 weeks today.) Was 30 when we started trying, am 34 now.
There's help out there if you need it - go and talk to your GP if you're worried. It's better to get the process started earlier than later.
I can tell you though it took my body nearly two years to get back into any vague semblance of a cycle after stopping the pill (but that's why I needed fertility treatment, as the pill had been masking all sorts of issues - to the point where I needn't have remembered to take the fecking thing for 13 years!!)
Good luck :)

wrighty2010 · 13/06/2011 13:32

Hi, dont be disheartened we are all different, have you tried using ovulation predictors? I used them and also some vitamins, Vitafem, meant to boost fertility (bought both online from a website called Pride Angel)
Anyway

DD aged 26 5 months
DS aged 31 5 months
DS2 aged 36 1 month
DD2 aged 40 3 months

So don't dive up, I was 40 when I had my last baby (no more for me now) so there is hope for you yet you are still only young!!

Good luck xx

LostInTransmogrification · 13/06/2011 11:22

Nearly a year from stopping the pill. It wasn't until a friend suggested trying on the last day of my period that I fell pregnant (worked for her and her sister too), it worked on our first attempt!

FetchTheMaid · 13/06/2011 11:20

GiraffeAHolic · 13/06/2011 11:17

Just over 2 years for Dd
24 months for this bump

NinjaChipmunk · 13/06/2011 11:16

ds took one month
no2 we've been trying for 14 months, all tests so far say we're healthy but nothing yet?
Am 36 though so who knows how that affects things.
If you've been trying for a year I second the opinion to go to the docs just to get your bloods and dp's sperm tested.

mrsravelstein · 13/06/2011 11:15

ds1 - age 27 - 4 years
ds2 - age 35 - 5 months
dd - age 37 (and breastfeeding) - 1 month

Bumpsadaisie · 13/06/2011 11:13

PS was 34 with DD and 36 this time round.

Bumpsadaisie · 13/06/2011 11:12

1st - month 1
2nd (due Oct) - month 2

Mind you before TTCing no.1 I came off the Pill about a year before we started TTCing - and it took my body a LONG time to get back to normal. Had I come off just before TTCing I am sure DD would have taken longer.

ShowOfHands · 13/06/2011 10:23

It's normal for it to take a year to two years in a fertile couple but if you're 30 and it has been a year, then I'd see the GP and just start with the first basic tests if you haven't already.

It took 14 months, then a miscarriage and a couple of chemical pregnancies to get and stay pregnant with dd. I am fertile and healthy (as is dh) and was 25yrs old at the time.
