How long did it take for you?

Me and hubby have been "trying" for a baby for a year now and unfortunately still no luck. Admittedly we were not particularly focused (!) at the beginning but now we are fully temping and opking and still bfn.
my logical side knows that this doesn't necessarily mean there is something wrong. I've just turned thirty so that will reduce our chances per cycle too.

I guess I just wanted a quick straw poll of mumsnetters to see what the average is for people. So...... How long did it take for you?

Preg 1 at 18, had abortion as was an accident in a violent relationship. However as I remember it, I wasn't on contraception for 3+ yrs, so not the most fertile teen, or may have been because I was 6 stone and constantly on edge?

Preg 2, aged 21 ended in mc, happened on a one night stand with split condom. Never thought that would happen due to above.

Preg 3 at 25, took us 13 cycles, used pre-seed in the end, seemed to help, now 26 weeks.

Writing this down is crazy, I've never thought of my preg history like this before. All I can say is that looking back, stress was a major factor in conception for me. I moved house twice in the 13 months trying for this pregnancy, and feel the stress was making me less fertile. Good luck, but I was relieved knowing that it can take up to 2 years for fertile couples, so there is plenty of hope!

DC2= TTC 2.5 years.... still trying

Well i followed my ovulation cycle very closely and we were at it like rabbits as soon as i was ovulating, however with no joy for months. As soon as we gave up obsessing about ovulating and had sex last day of my period (there was still a tiny bit of blood - sorry) and also the following day (first day after my period) i became pregnant. My husband then went back to work overseas for 2 months so i know for sure that i conceived either on the last day of my period or the day after - and not when i thought i was ovulating. Result - Twin Girls born 5 weeks ago.

1st dd 3 months
2nd 21 months and counting

georgie22 · 15/06/2011 13:26

Dd - 2 months. Not very organised and didn't temp or do OPKs but was on Pregnacare Conception as thought it might take a while as I was 35/36 - turned out I didn't need to be concerned.
Do worry what might happen when we try for another baby, but fingers crossed.

havealittlefaithbaby · 15/06/2011 13:17

hi hairy how are you?

hairylights · 15/06/2011 13:02

age forty three (and recurrent mc)

First attempt - 6 months after coming off the pill, only really focussing for two-three months due to lack of knowledge, working out fertile times etc
Second attempt - first month of trying
Third attempt - first month of trying
Fourth attempt (currently Pg) - first month of trying

thisisstupid · 15/06/2011 12:58

Don't get worried my mum had fertility treatment with me when she was 30 and her fourth child my youngest brother when she was 40, she was on the injection as well so a complete suprise, statistics are generalistaions and mean absolutly nothing to the individual.

thisisstupid · 15/06/2011 12:56

Pregnancy 1 accident i had an abortion, my firstborn was an accident i was on the injection crazy. Pregnancy 3 i was an accident i didn't use a condom one night which was a stupid thing to do and ended in a second abortion. Pregnancy number 4 first time we had unprotected sex i got pregnant and am 36 weeks now and counting, none of my pregnancies were really planned they just happened best way really you avoid the stress of actually trying

TheGashlycrumbTinies · 13/06/2011 22:42

DD1 3 months age 35
DD2 1 month age 38

goldmaple · 13/06/2011 22:39

DC1 (due in Nov)- took 7 months, age 27 (had been off pill for 1 year and periods had just gone back to normal for 2 cycles)

PelvicFloors0fSteel · 13/06/2011 22:30

DS1 - 9 months age 28
DS2 - immediately age 30

I found stopping the pill totally messed my cycles up and I'm sure the difference 2nd time round was not having gone back on it in between.

Pipbin · 13/06/2011 22:20

All these quick times with women over 30 really are giving me hope.

NinjaChipmunk · 13/06/2011 21:42

its interesting to see what a wide range of time frames it takes. Not just from person to person but from dc to dc.

drivingmisscrazy · 13/06/2011 21:41

yes, fingers crossed for all of you; it's tough when it doesn't happen like you expect

Asinine · 13/06/2011 21:33

Asinine · 13/06/2011 21:32

Ds - 6 cycles - age 24

Dd- 8 cycles - age 28

piprabbit · 13/06/2011 21:27

DD1 - 2yrs 8mths (started when I was 30).
DS1 - 2yrs 9mths (started when I was 34).

Several MCs on the way to conceiving both DCs, we were just starting infertility investigations when I became naturally pregnant with DD1. Then we had an ectopic pg followed by a diagnosis of endometriosis and 1 course of IVF which led to DS1.
