Hello Ladies.

I am a 26 year old mum of 1. My DS has just turned 2, i am currently off the pill as iv had a few problems with irregular bleeding ect. After a scan and tests and examination, My gp wasnt sure if it was due to the pill that i was getting irregular bleeding or an ectropian, which she described as being a small abrasion on the cervix :/. She mentioned changing my contraception, and so have decided to give the Pill Injection a try. I came off my pill which was cerazette on the 11th May i was told i had to wait for my first period before i could get the injection day day1-5. I had a small bleed on the 13th May, which i think was a withdrawl bleed.
What im confused about can i class that as my last period as i dont have regular periods and was bleedi ng evry 3-4 days while on the pill, I will mention since stopping cerazette iv had no irregular bleeding since my last bleed on the 13th which lasted 1 day, soo i now know its prob the pill that caused the bleeding.
Me and DH hav been having sex and using the pull out method (i know we should prob use condoms as extra protection) but we havent.
What i want to know can you still get pregnant doing this? Obv he is pulling out before you know what :O. I wouldnt be upset if i was to get pregnant and i dont think DH would be eitha, just wanted to know if anyone has.
We have been having regular sex 3-4 times a week using this method. I dont understand as i dont think iv ovulated as i havent had a proper period and dont know if i can class the 1 day bleed as a period ????????

Confused. Ill be interested in any comments. Thankyou

I had 1 day bleed on 13th May after stopping the pill.

Thanx catface1984, iv been reading up about it all, and im getting mixed responses. Mant people say they have concieved by using the pull out method whe they thought they were playing it safe. Others have said exactly wha you have stated that pre cum doesnt contain any sperm at all and the only way you could get pregnant this way is if the man has prev ejaculated and not urinated afterwards and then enters the lady again as there could be sperm left over from prev time.

Could i just ask if i bled 2 days after stopping my pill only for 1 day, would this be likley to have been a withdrawl bleed??

Catface1984 · 06/06/2011 18:35

Pre cum is produced by a different gland, sperm is only released upon ejaculation. Sperm would only be present in pre cum, had it been left over from a previous ejaculation, and the man had not urinated in between. If he pulls out before any cum comes out, chances of conception are very low. However if you are ovulating and he lets a little cum slip out, you could become pregnant the same as if he was cumming in you regularly.

:)

Really MRG!!! Gosh thats shocking. Its made me realise now that it can still happen. Thankyou again to all of you that have replyed.
I think i did ovulate a few weeks ago as i remember the slimey egg white discharge (sorry tmi).
We would be happy if i were pregnant as i said earlier we have discussed having a 2nd child :). Just wanted to know as if im not then at least we can notice when ovulation occurs and avoid or use condoms untill i can get started on the Pill injection.
Its a topic my work friends and i have been discussing and neitha of us apart from 1 thought it were possible and i thought we'd be okay doing this.
I noe kno it is possible !!!
Thanks again x

May I reccomend this book which may help you understand what's going on with your body and recognise your fertile signs. You can use the info to avoid pregnancy (.though ideally get some barrier contraceptive until you've followed the book instructions for a couple of months). Then when you do want to ttc you'll know what's going on with your body and the book has advice on ttc. It basically teaches you how to recognise your fertile signs to avoid pregnancy/ to get pregnant depending on what you want!

eurochick · 05/06/2011 22:38

MRG, that happened to a friend of mine too. No entry but he came near her and somehow some must have crept in.

EricNorthmansMistress · 05/06/2011 22:35

Also my DH seems to start spunking before he actually comes (TMI? nah) it's only a matter of seconds but if he is leaving it to the last second I reckon some still gets in there.

mollycuddles · 05/06/2011 22:33

My dh is a product of the withdrawal method. He's fab so I'm very glad it's not an effective method of contraception. Bit of a shock to his naive, young and unmarried mother in 1968.

EricNorthmansMistress · 05/06/2011 22:31

As Showy says, if he has ejaculated not long before you have sex there can be sperm in the tubes which will be carried out with the pre-cum. I know more than one person who has been pregnant through withdrawal.

If you are using NFP (charting when you are fertile and having no penetrative sex at all during that time) then you are pretty unlikely to get pregnant. But as you don't know whether you have ovulated or not I'd say there is a chance you could conceive. You will ovulate before your first period arrives.

ShowOfHands · 05/06/2011 22:30

Sperm are determined little buggers. You have to pull out and run as far away as you can. You then have to nuke the bastards in case one breaks free.

I know somebody sort of in a friend of a friend type way who swears blind she got pregnant when her bf ejaculated in the bath they were sharing. Not sure if he was supposed to be ejaculating mind. Quite rude if not.

QueeferSutherland · 05/06/2011 22:28

Really MRG! Shock

purpleflower123 · 05/06/2011 22:28

I came off of cerazette and must have ovulated after 2 weeks as i tested positive pg test 4 weeks after I stopped taking it. I didn't have any physical signs that i had ovulated.

MumblingRagDoll · 05/06/2011 22:25

Mate...I got pregant without it even going IN! The penis that is.

ShowOfHands · 05/06/2011 22:23

There are a lot of myths bandied around about the withdrawal method.

If used correctly it has a 4% failure rate. The failure rate increases to around 27% if you're not using it consistently or effectively.

There is no sperm in pre-ejaculate fluid. They did used to think there was but it's now clear that there isn't. What can very rarely happen is that if you have sex and some semen remains in the tubes and then you have sex again very soon afterwards, the residual sperm is pushed through and there's a minimal risk of conception.

Its major problem is that it's extremely hard to follow in theory. You're relying on somebody to pull out in time, consistently and reliably. This is where the failures occur, not due to errant sperm in pre-ejaculate fluid.

Personally I wouldn't rely on it and would just buy some condoms.

whydobirdssuddenlyappear · 05/06/2011 22:22

No prob. For what it's worth, there are a couple of physical indicators that can help you to be more aware of when you're ovulating. A clear, wet, slippery discharge (known as egg white cervical mucus) is one. You could also get pains in your lower back on one side, though not everyone gets this.

redflagsahoy · 05/06/2011 22:17

Hi Shellmc you can 100% still get pregnant. Have you considered using ovulation sticks to check when you ovulate? Barrier method i.e. condoms should be ok until your new contraceptive is started

shellmc · 05/06/2011 22:15

Thanx for your reply whydobirdssuddenlysppear. Me and DH would love another DC but we did say about waiting a little while before TTC again, bt if it happens it happens. I was just interested to know.

FWIW we did it for over a decade before it failed - happily for us though not deliberately.

shellmc · 05/06/2011 22:07

Thanku Apieofbutter :)
Do you know if its likley i will of ovulated though as i havent had a proper period in ages.

OP posts:
whydobirdssuddenlyappear · 05/06/2011 22:06

Just because you haven't had a period doesn't mean you haven't ovulated. You ovulate 2 weeks before your period - this means that once you've come off the pill and your system's started to readjust, you'll ovulate, then have a period 2 (ish) weeks later. It can take a few weeks for your system to readjust post pill, equally it can be almost instantaneous.

APieOfButter · 05/06/2011 21:55

Pre cum can very easily get you pregnant.

shellmc · 05/06/2011 21:51

Thankyou, Im sorry if iv came over to you sounding petty and immature.

I didnt think it was possible i was discussing it with my work friends last night 2 ov those who also didnt think it wer possible. Yeah i suppose i may sound stupid but i came on here to ask.

Thanks for the answears tho.

Do you know what they call people that use the withdrawal method.....?
.....Mum and Dad!!!

Suggest you get to the your local Family Planning Clinic, there are so many options of contraception available to you. You could get a coil fitted if neither your DH or you are big fans of condoms, or go back on the pill if your doctor thinks you are an eligible candidate. You should do as soon as possible, and if you are not quite ready for the next bundle of joy, you may be putting too much pressure on you and your husband.

You will be offered good advice and something that will suit your body and lifestyle. To find your closest clinic and more advice see the below link...

good luck!

piprabbit · 05/06/2011 21:40

15%-28% failure rate compared to 2% failure rate on the pill - according to Wikipedia.

thenightsky · 05/06/2011 21:38
