CLOMID GANG - the new thread

thanks bubbly. I just rang them and spoke to a nurse. She says they have never offered that procedure but she doesn't know why. I have asked them to get the consultant to ring me just to explain why they don't offer it.
If it turns out that they don't then I'll just have to accept it this time but then i will look around for a different clinic.
I'm in manchester - the clinic is MSF. There is another one that I could try.

It is extremely frustrating.

katie let us know how you get on, i feel very angry on your behalf, this treatment doesnt have to be cancelled! what other clinics are around you, what is the clinic called that your with, where is it?

thanks bubbly, I thought the same to be honest (about 3 eggs not being that much). I'm pretty sure they don't do follicle reduction - no one has ever mentioned it. I will go and ask!

sorry, i should add that after that procedure, they insert the sperm, so all done in one go really

katie, i may have written it down in detail on my iui diary which is somewhere on this section, but briefly what they do is have you in an hour earlier than you would have gone in for insemination, give you a drug so you dont feel nothing, then insert a very fine needle which goes through your vagina wall onto the follicles and they suck out the fluid ...they scan you all this time to make sure they only suck out certain ones leaving the best ones in, easy simple procedure, i think its called follicle reduction

if your clinic doesnt do it, then i would honestly have to say id look at going somewhere else on your next treatment, somewhere where there policy is that they will do a follicle reduction

to be honest 3 isnt too bad, i cant believe they will cancel your whole treatment!!!

with all these drugs, i think its awfully hard to try to just have 2 eggs,

that's really interesting bubbly - they've never even mentioned that (yes I'm private). How do they get rid of them? They are just saying that it's their protocol that if there is more than 2 then they won't do the insemination.

I did think about that roobeedo (the BDing I mean). They say to only have protected sex (I guess because of risk of multiple pregnancy). I do have the HCG injection to pop out the egg they will tell me not to use it if it appears I have overstimulated.

katierocket, i over stimulated on my 1st cycle, but they got rid of some of my follicles on day of insemination...is there any chance your clinic will do this for you?

hope you dont mind me asking, but are you a private patient?

i never got charged extra for this procedure, and like you i was so worried that they would cancell my treatment, i had soooo many large follicles but they just got rid of some...worth asking your clinic

well I've been told my treatment is very likely to be cancelled. I had a scan today (day 8) and there are 3 follicles. If they have all grown by Sat (rather than just one or two) then it will be cancelled. Utterly gutted. I can't get bloody pregnant on my own and but I can't seem to have treatment.

Unfortunately it sounds like you've become resistant to clomid. It should be given anyway with a degree of caution to PCOS patients.

Am glad you've got an appointment with the cons albeit in February. You both need to talk through your options re treatment asap.

Having now had two ops under GA I would say the fear of same is far worse than the reality.

mincepee - as loubie says, it's usually ovulatory problems that cause consultants to prescribe CLomid although I was prescribed it even though I am ovulating to give my eggs "a boost". Didn't work though!

Kiera - Just checked one of my reference books by an American doctor which says you can have 12 consecutive cycles on Clomid before increasing risk of ovarian cancer due to its stimulatory effect. UK guidelines may be different. HTH. Good luck!

Kiera - My gyn/ob said it is 6 doses of Clomid that you are allowed to have assuming none of them results in a pregnancy. She was prepared to allow me 8 in total b/c I fell pregnant (but m/c unfortunately) on dose 5. However she said there were other drugs we could try after Clomid.

I didn't really respond well to Clomid (didn't ovulate for first two months on 50mg, then went onto 100mg and ovulated but didn't conceive, then still didn't ovulate, then after fourth cycle on Clomid had an HSG which showed the tubes were fine, then on fifth cycle went for a scan every 2-3 days to monitor the ovaries and then finally ovulated on about day 21 ... and conceived ... then had the m/c). So I decided to get off the merrygoround and went for acupuncture instead! For the first time in my life I noticed fertile mucus and had a regular 32-34 day cycle. The acupuncture was amazing! We conceived first month trying and DS is 14m today.

Hi there, sorry to hear about all the heartache you've experienced, I can't imagine what it must be like to go through.

Clomid is usually prescribed for ovulatory problems, I don't ovulate very often for some unknown reason (probably down to my age ) so Clomid was prescribed to boost the hormones that make you ovulate.

Can anyone explain what clomid assisted pregnancy is? Why do you take clomid?

I am not sure whether it is linked to what I have or not.

IN BRIEF:

I have had 5 m/c in 12 mths and have a possible diagnosis which is Luteal Phase Defect. I am being monitored by a couple of profs at a recurrent miscarraige clinic. I am currently taking progesterone supplements to try and sort this out.

Any info would be appreciated.

We get married on 30th December - 4 weeks on Friday eeek! We're off to Sharm el Sheik on holiday, really looking forward to it, it should be nice and warm, even in January.

katie - just waiting for the days to tick by to start first cycle with 100mg of Clomid. Still ds was conceived in December, after years of trying unsuccesfully, so perhaps there's a good omen there? (This month would mean a due date almost exactly when ds statrts school though - but we'll cross that bridge if/when we come to it!)

Hi everyone

Sorr I've not been around for ages, I've been trying to stop being so obsessive about getting pregnant so have had a month off charting, forums, OPKs etc. Not that it worked really, I still thought about it all the time and I'm still not pregnant!

The good news though is that I finally ovulated last month!!!!! My progesterone level on day 21 was 42 - not brilliant, but more than double what it was the month before

I'm having a couple of months off Clomid now, so I can get Xmas/my wedding/honeymoon out of the way. We're still TTCing in that we're not using contaceptives, and if I do fall pregnant (unlikely without Clomid) I'll be over the moon naturally, but I won't be too upset if I'm not, cos if I was I'd only be paranoid that something will go wrong either just before the wedding or while we're away.

I'm looking really forward to starting again in January when we get back - now I know it works for me, it's given me an extra boost of enthusiasm.

hello roobee - today is day 2 so I went to clinic for blood test to measure FSH levels (last time there were slightly elevated) and scan. All was OK so I start the injections today and do them every day - go back on day 8 for further scans/blood test and take it from theree. IUI will probably be around day 13. eek. Am trying to be positive, not get too obsessed but not get my hopes up too much that it will work first time.
