This should be clomid and IUI (for Katierocket) thread. Hoping this one will be luckier than the last - can't be any worse, don't think we had a single BFP did we?

Lots and lots and lots of luck to us all.

Excellent news beckiF - hope this month is lucky for you.

naditude · 23/04/2006 14:04

BeckiF - Well done for your smiley face!! Its so exciting isn't it when you get that pos and you know you're in with a chance again this month. I'm waiting for my line on the opk this month. I too have quite long cycles and they ALL vary from cycle to cycle. I spend a fortune too, but buy the test strips off ebay, a lot cheaper than the digital ones. I go through 10 -15 sometimes in one cycle.

Natty1806 - I too was wondering about drinking while on clomid. I'm on my 2nd cycle of clomid and felt really down on about days 2 - 8 this cycle. When i drank a few glasses of wine one night, I felt suicidal! (A bit dramatic probably but VERY down!) I nearly bit my DS's head off for eating my last slice of pizza at a restaurant!! And nearly cried! We laugh about it now but it was totally out of character.

So, I'd welcome any thoughts or comments on alcohol and clomid.

I think we've definately decided that we're trying no more than 3 cycles on this evil little pill. Lets hope we don't have to!

Good luck everyone - and I echo BeckiF when I say 'Lets stay optimistic - you have to be!' Smile

Got a smiley face this morning! Yee-haahhh!!! Let's just hope that ovulation and a pregnancy and a healthy baby follow!! How optimistic am I?! Well you HAVE to be!!

BeckiF · 21/04/2006 16:20

Hello ladies. I'm getting despondent this month. Last month I ovulated on CD25 and this month (the 2nd and last on Clomid) I am on CD24 with no signs. I have been using the Clearblue Digital Ovulation kits (onto my 3rd packet and they're aren't cheap!) and still no smiley face. Could I ovulate later this month than last? Also last month I had tingly nipples from CD17 right up to when AF started at CD35, but nothing this month. Any ideas??

Natty1806 · 21/04/2006 15:38

Sorry also forgot to ask about caffine do you think this effects ovulation along with alcohol or is it just one of those things that i am unable to ovulate?

Natty1806 · 21/04/2006 14:59

Hi

was just wondering when you are put on clomid is it best not too drink? When i first started ttc i cut right down and ate really healthy etc but as i am know having a few problems the weekend drinking has kicked back in. Saying that i think i would do anything to have a baby so giving up being extra social and having a drink at weekends will just prepare me for when i do (fingers crossed) get pregnant.
Sorry i do ramble on a bit.x(grin)

dizzy36 · 21/04/2006 13:17

well, 99% sure clomid not worked this cycle. all signs of impending af are there...expecting it any day now. Still have no realy idea if and when I ovulated.

My last scan showed good size follicle on day 18. I opk every day after that and no surge. I can only think that the surge may have occurred b4 day 18 and I acutally ovulated on 18. Am I clutching at straws do you think? If af arrives by next tues that would give me a 14 day lh from day 18 which I suppose would make it almost certainly I ovulated on day 18.

Will give clomid another go next month but will see consultant if gives me a longer (or shorter cycle) again. Its hard to ttc if don't know when ovulating!

PS. managed to get easter weekend at the lakes and had a lovely relaxing time. did me the world of good and did not think of ttc at all...too busy enjoying myself. Was just what I needed.

Am considering not going for a follicle monitoring scan next cycle because of the all the stress it and the nurses put me under last month. I know that I should make sure chlomid not creating more than one egg but I haven't on previous 4 fertility treatments so I don't think its likely.

trace2 · 21/04/2006 08:21

skbf, i agree with bubbly, dont take it, it can be quiet dangerous if your not given from gp

trace2 · 21/04/2006 08:18

yes i was and yes we could do with another meet, gingerbear

Gingerbear · 20/04/2006 18:28

yes we did trace - Barnsley lass aren't you? Grin Could do with another get together.

bubbly1973 · 20/04/2006 17:07

skbf, sorry to butt in but id never forgive myself if someone went onto baby aspirin and it wasnt the right thing to do all because i didnt post

although baby aspirin has helped women who miscarry, i strongly urge anyone who is thinking of going on it to ask there doctor first, and not just take them, i am sorry if i sound patronising but there are ladies who may just about try anything and sometimes whats good for one isnt necessarily good for another.

trace2 · 20/04/2006 15:34

hi gingerbear, me too old and waiting for af to come, for first lot of clomid, i think i met you at christmas meet, looked a photos this morning they have gone.

Gingerbear · 20/04/2006 12:04

thanks Iona and Trace. Still waiting for AF to start. First go with clomid. Had usual tests and a HSG scan - all normal. I reckon my eggs are no good, low progesterone and have stopped ovulating.
CD 29 today- my cycle seems to be getting longer every month.

I am an old hag, and probably too long in the tooth for all this. (conceived DD at 38 within 3 months no problems at all)

trace2 · 20/04/2006 08:12

Gingerbear, i start mine this next cyle day 2 to day 6,

ionaming · 19/04/2006 22:59

Gingerbear, the proper red bleed counts as day 1. Ignore any days that are just spotting. I had clomid prescribed for days 2-6 of cycle but when to take your tablets varies from consultant to consultant. HTH & Good luck, Iona x

Gingerbear · 19/04/2006 21:28

Could anyone tell me when you should start taking clomid? I mean what day of your cycle? And is the first day of your period counted as the yeuky brown stuff, or the proper red bleed?

MeerkatsUnite · 19/04/2006 16:39

Natty,

Did the doc compare your LH level against your FSH level if that was measured?. If he did not then the test is not valid.

Clomid is usually provided in cases of non ovulation but the underlying cause of non ovulation needs to be fully established. It is best to see a gynae in this regard.

I hope you get a response back from the clinic very soon.

Natty1806 · 19/04/2006 15:37

Forgot to say Doctor said all my other levels were fine. Indicating that i do not have PCOS and that it is just a case of non ovualtion.

Natty1806 · 19/04/2006 15:03

Hi MeerkatsUnite

Thanks for your advice, i am in the Oxfrodshire area so not sure if that is a good or bad thing.

Anyway hopefully in a few weeks i will hear one way or another.

Thanks again

MeerkatsUnite · 19/04/2006 14:34

Natty

Where abouts are you?. I ask only as someone else on here may reside in the same county.

Waiting till 30 is not an option. Age should not be a barrier to you receiving treatment and your GP should realise this.

Presumably you have been referred to a NHS unit and the response time for that is variable to say the least. Hopefully your GP will get a response soon. You may need to be referred to a major unit 0in a larger town or city if these people are putting up barriers. It is true also to say that some subfertility units are far better than others.

Did the GP mention what your LH and FSH levels were like?. Usually in PCOS patients the LH level is in excess of FSH which in turn leads to the knock on effect with regards to progesterone.

The clinic ought to see you if you're on clomid as you should ideally be monitored whilst on it (with blood tests and or ultrasounds). It is not always suitable for all PCOS patients, some PCOS patients can become clomid resistant. Side effects with clomid can include bresat discomfort and headaches. It should be taken for a max time of six months after which other treatments should be tried.

Verity has a very good website with regards to PCOS; they are a charitable based organisation set up to help women with PCOS. Their web address is www.verity-pcos.org.uk.

I would advise you to educate yourself re PCOS as knowledge is power!!.

Natty1806 · 19/04/2006 14:14

:) Hello
I am new to all of this and after a bit of advice.
I have been tested for PCOS but have been told that only my progestrone levels are really low so my doctor wants me to have chlomid (sorry can't spell very well) but has to get permission from the local fertility clinic. He has sent a letter and has mentioned that they might want to see me or even more worringly - they won't until i am 30 (currently only 23)
Does anyone know how long it takes to get a response? When roughly i will get the tablets and what the side effects are? Also if they won't see me or allow my doctor to give me the tablets - what do i do then?

ShouldKnowByFriday · 15/04/2006 20:46

Hello everybody. Have been off for a few days as busy but now trying to catch up. Mumsnet was off last night so did some googling and found 2 very interesting fertility sites: one is www.inciid.org which is very thorough in answering most asked questions and www.thefertilesoul.com. That one explains the 3 month preparation of an egg and how you can help with the quality, etc so thought it might be of interest to you all. After reading as mcuh as I did I wondered if it was worth going on to baby aspirin (75mg per day), taking wheat grass, Co Enzyme, blue green algea, cutting out caffeine (but how will I get through the day?), sugar and dairy. Also recommends acupuncture as incrases blood flow to ovaries which is important. Its worth reading the articles on these sites as they both gave me hope.

Loubie, good luck this month!!!

I am on cd 14 and had ewcm yesterday and today and DP back tomorrow. BUT I do have period like pains and wonder if this is my body struggling to get back to normal and that I am about to have a period? I thought the cycle would be longer than this? Has anybody had this experience? Did not go back to clinic for another blood test as last one was 50 and the dr said he would be happier at 30 so I was supposed to go on Tuesday but quite frankly, I couldn't be bothered and didn't make an appt as I just couldn't face going there yet again for a blood test. If I start menses in the next few days I shall go for a blood test this week so that I get the definite all clear to start clomid on the coming cycle.

Jodee · 15/04/2006 19:20

Hi all, I've not posted on this thread for a couple of weeks, reading with interest all your updates tho'. On second clomid cycle, and OPK indicated a surge, but unfortunately only managed one bd session DH and I have been so tired, so I don't feel very confident about this month.

Loubie, I really hope things work out for you this month, try not to put too much pressure on each other and relax - fingers crossed!
