Just found out you are pregnant after a previous miscarriage and too nervous to move over the to pregnancy boards? Freaking out about spotting, cramping, symptoms (or lack there of) and nervously awaiting your first scan? Here is a lovely place for lot's of support, hand holding and problem sharing.

Courtesy of owlbooty here are the Ten Commandments of the Freak Out Room.

  1. Thou shalt check thy knickers to the point of insanity until the baby actually arrives.
  2. Thou shalt also check the loo roll post-wipeage (sorry, gross, I know)
  3. Thou shalt bore thy physician and midwife to tears with the mentalling.
  4. And thy husband/boyfriend/family/neighbour's cat.
  5. Thou shalt obsess over the absence of symptoms.
  6. And the presence of symptoms.
  7. And the fluctuation of symptoms.
  8. Thou shalt pee on a vast number of sticks and keep ClearBlue and First Response in business.
  9. The day before any scan extreme mentalling is permitted without recourse to the Haddock.
10. Self-diagnosis with Dr Google is Forbidden.

The Haddock will be applied liberally to all transgressors.

Dachs I'm so sorry the op didn't work. What happens now?

Banana I'd definitely complain too. What's the point in paying if you just get the same treatment?

CollieandPup · 18/05/2011 14:43

Hi all. dachs so glad to hear things are not as bad as expected and that there is hope. Everytime I read your posts Im close to tears. You're little pups are such fighters, hoping they hang in a bit longer.

yay for lara fab news sweetie

Good news from me. All is fine. Also had bloods to supplement nuchal scan results. lara wish I'd known about the sprite before my scan. Pup was very lazy and uncooperative. Sonographer was rubbish too. Just not interested. Her measurements were 2 days behind private scan but not sure which dates mw using yet. Paid £4.50 for one measly picture. Daylight robbery.

banana I got my results there and then as I went private. Have to wait 2 weeks for those results though.

Off to vets now as one of my cats is poorly Sad

dach oh what a day for you. I'm so sorry the op didn't go as planned. What have they said now? is it back to being a case of waiting, and not moving? keeping fx for you all.

glad scans went well hihp and banana sorry you didn't get your results today my nhs wouldn't due to bloods being part of it so i had to wait.

keeping fx for the rest of the scanners.

Wombat33 · 18/05/2011 14:41

Oh Dachs I'm so sorry the op didn't work out. Does that mean you continue on bed rest as before? We are all continuing to keep everything crossed that the pups stay put and you stay infection-free xx

Velvetcu · 18/05/2011 14:40

oh no dachs what happens now? So sorry it didnt work.

DoubleDiffedDachs · 18/05/2011 14:36

The op didn't work. They couldn't get the membranes back in, so they couldn't put a stitch in.

LaraMi · 18/05/2011 14:34

Banana - WTF??? A private scan? I think you def need to complain - write a really snotty letter and demand a refund. Try and relax though - from what you've said, bean seemed well and that is all that matters.

Blackkat · 18/05/2011 14:22

Banana that's truly awful. Bad enough that she wouldn't show you beans legs and features etc on the NHS, but really unacceptable bcs you've paid to gain additional TLC and reassurance (not that you or any of us should have to).

Can you get DH to complain today, or do it yourself tomorrow when you're less angry and upset?

Angry on your behalf ....

banana87 · 18/05/2011 14:18

Thanks WIW and everyone for your reassurance. The most frustrating thing is that it was a flipping private scan! The mistake is that it was at a NHS hospital so I got the same treatment and obviously the same wait, despite having paid for the scan. She also wouldn't tell me the heart rate, just that it was good. She muttered where the hands, feet, etc were under he breath, I have no idea where what is and it was just horrible. I may as well have gone on the NHS for the treatment I received. Never. Again.

Velvetcu · 18/05/2011 14:10

banana I didnt find out on the day of my NHS scan, I had to wait 2 weeks for a letter but as WIW said 1.7 is a normal measurement so it should be good news.

lara yay for the good scan. Lucky you skipping a whole week!

LaraMi · 18/05/2011 14:09

WIW - loving the knowledge... you and MummyA went to the same school of pregnancy it would seem!

Minnie74 · 18/05/2011 14:07

Afternoon all

So pleased to hear about the positive scans from harrassed banana (even with the frustrating NT wait) and lara Got my sprite ready for later x

dachs better news just made me cry. Keeping everything crossed that it works out xxx

Am so hoping the good news continues- not looking forward to the scan at all, being my usual pessimistic self! Blush Just puked doing the washing up so will be leaving that to dp from now on. Grin Every cloud!

Good luck with scan collie

LaraMi · 18/05/2011 14:07

Don't stress, Banana - at least the scan went well.... It just must be the protocol of your trust. FYI I just came home and saw on my notes (the letter for the doctor in fact) that not only have they spelt my surname very, very wrong but they also have written down completely the wrong doctor at the wrong surgery.

wombatinwaiting · 18/05/2011 14:02

How frustrating for you banana - I was lucky enough to be private here and to get the results same day was very reassuring, however.... please see this from babycentre.co.uk :

An NT measurement of up to 2mm is normal at about 11 weeks, and up to about 2.8mm by 13 weeks and six days. The NT normally grows in proportion with your baby (Nicolaides et al 1999).

Sooooo.... you are definitely well within normal range Smile. Also, according to this website, your background risk, based on age alone is 1 in 910. I think your risk will come down even more once it's combined with the NT measurement. May I please add a disclaimer that I am not a doctor, nurse, midwife or ob/gyn! hope this helps with the mentalling during the wait though. Did you have bloods taken today as well? This was added in for me but I don't know if they offer it at all NHS trusts.

Blackkat · 18/05/2011 13:51

Banana sorry xpost pleased that the scan went well. Grin I don't think everyone has found out NT results straight away, I know Irene and Katherine had to wait and all was well. FX, perhaps it just depends on your NHS trust, not that that's any consolation. ((hugs))

Blackkat · 18/05/2011 13:48

Lara been worrying about you all morning; was expecting you to post back at 5.30!! So pleased that all was well and that the Nuchal risk is low fantastic news Grin Grin

Bit Envy that you've skipped ahead of me; it was nice to have a mentalling chum

Collie Banana any news? Minnie I know you're being scanned this aft, hope the afternoon goes quickly for you. Smile

Sending big (((hugs))) too Dachs for a smooth op xx

banana87 · 18/05/2011 13:47

Error: 12+6

banana87 · 18/05/2011 13:47

I've come back from my scan a little upset. They wouldn't fing tell me my risk. Nuchal measurement 1.7mm, 12+5. I am 30. She wouldn't tell me shit about the reading, and said I have to wait 7-10 days to hear. How come everyone else on this thread and in RL knows ON THE DAY their risk, but I can't? ARGGGHHHHHH. Mentalling continues.

Bumpwanted · 18/05/2011 13:42

Yay Lara that is brilliant news! So so pleased for you Grin Grin. Sorry you were up so early this morning though - you must be knackered! I ended up getting in bed at 8pm and still fell tired today! xx

LaraMi · 18/05/2011 13:32

Oops - didn't mean to be disrespectful by putting my rant above the "Thinking of" section - am working off a tiny laptop and didn't scroll down properly. Will re-post:

Wonderful news lara and can't believe you've gained a week - we're almost twins! I'm so pleased for you. Great tip about the Sprite too!

LaraMi · 18/05/2011 13:20

Hello Ladies

Firstly, the biggest hug to Dachs - came back from my scan at 11am, read your first set of news, couldn't bear to post, went out to the shops, came back and saw that looks are looking miles more positive. Got my fingers and toes crossed....

For obvious reasons I didn't feel it was right to post earlier but now that we seem to have lots of luck in the freak-out room, I'll quickly post my scan news. It went really, really well. I took a tip from my sister and drank Sprite before I went in (!) and as such, bean was dancing! Everything was fine and I'm actually a week further along than the first scan thought - so today am 12+5 (one week less mentalling and one week less to go until mat leave, woo hoo!) Nuchal results good too and chances of Downs have gone down from 1 in 500 (as I'm 31) to 1 in 10,000. My due date will be 25th Nov.

Still can't believe it - was certain it was going to be horrendous but I guess not....

Will read back on what I've missed today and reply individually shortly. A big huge thanks for all your good luck wishes - love you all and in fact almost ran home to post before I rang my mum! xxx

CaribouMoo · 18/05/2011 13:19

I'm so heartened to read your last post Dasch, hope everything goes well with the op. Just shows you that no matter how hard it is its important to keep on hoping and believing x

IzzyWizzyletsgetbusy · 18/05/2011 12:46

Oh god dachs I've only just had chance to catch up on this morning's posts and I can't begin to imagine what you've been going through. Fantastic news that things aren't as bad as originally thought, and that they're planning to do the op - they must think you're in with a fighting chance. I'm thinking of you and praying for a successful op and for those babies to stay put! xxx

(btw your names are lovely, one of them is v close to one we've picked and one is v similar to dd's name so I think you have absolutely impeccable taste!!)

Congrats to harassed on a good scan and good luck to all those waiting x
