Just found out you are pregnant after a previous miscarriage and too nervous to move over the to pregnancy boards? Freaking out about spotting, cramping, symptoms (or lack there of) and nervously awaiting your first scan? Here is a lovely place for lot's of support, hand holding and problem sharing.

Courtesy of owlbooty here are the Ten Commandments of the Freak Out Room.

  1. Thou shalt check thy knickers to the point of insanity until the baby actually arrives.
  2. Thou shalt also check the loo roll post-wipeage (sorry, gross, I know)
  3. Thou shalt bore thy physician and midwife to tears with the mentalling.
  4. And thy husband/boyfriend/family/neighbour's cat.
  5. Thou shalt obsess over the absence of symptoms.
  6. And the presence of symptoms.
  7. And the fluctuation of symptoms.
  8. Thou shalt pee on a vast number of sticks and keep ClearBlue and First Response in business.
  9. The day before any scan extreme mentalling is permitted without recourse to the Haddock.
10. Self-diagnosis with Dr Google is Forbidden.

The Haddock will be applied liberally to all transgressors.

oh Dachs you poor thing. And what an extra worry. What does your consultant say? Does he regard this as an emergency? If so, he could formally write to the insurance company and say so. I know doctors often fudge it a bit. I mean - how can some call centre bloke decide whether this is an emergency and your policy covers you. Surely only a consultant can determine that.

Sending you a big hug xxx

mousebacon · 18/05/2011 18:30

Big hugs dachs so sorry the op wasn't successful. Maybe they could try again in 48 hours?

The insurance company are being ridiculous! Of course it's an emergency. I really hope mrdachs can change their minds.

I'm sending you and the pups lots of love and luck. Love their names BTW xx

Well done to all the scan dudes Smile

Ninunina · 18/05/2011 18:30

Oh Dach, how can an insurance company not consider this an emergency? This things make me furious. Glad to hear you've got 3 days to battle it out. Try and let DH sort it, and you just focus on keeping your pups safe. Thinking of you xxx

pigletmania · 18/05/2011 18:25

banana that is dreadful, I would demand a refund Angry

pigletmania · 18/05/2011 18:23

Oh no sounds a bit of a mess, all I can say is that I am thinking of you Sad

DoubleDiffedDachs · 18/05/2011 18:19

That was supposed to say 'isn't' an emergency situation...

DoubleDiffedDachs · 18/05/2011 18:17

DH's company is going to cover me for 3 days while they try to change the insurance company's mind. My consultant is considering where to send me if we can't. But I love my doc and I don't want to lose hi
:(

Although if this an emergency situation I don't know what is!

pigletmania · 18/05/2011 18:12

Oh Dachs big (((((((hugs))))))), like everyone is saying, hope that the babies stay in there as long as possible. Thinking of you.

Wombat33 · 18/05/2011 18:05

Oh Dachs. I know we all moan about the NHS but it can and does give excellent care (albeit not all the time). Can your DH find out a good NHS hosp/cons near you who will take on your care?

Alternatively, have you thought about trying to encourage the ins. co. to change their decision? It is an emergency situation for Alexander and Felicia (though I can just imagining them saying the pups are not yet insured in their own right). Go to the press???

cep · 18/05/2011 17:59

OMG DACH how can they consider it not an emergency situation. I'm so sorry this is more added stress for you. fx you'll be monitored closely where you do go.

DoubleDiffedDachs · 18/05/2011 17:36

Insurance company have decided it's not an emergency situation and I am therefore not covered so I'm going to have to go to a different hospital and not be monitored so closely so I think it's all doomed now.

Life sucks, I'm never going to be a mum and I hate BUPA

OrangeGloss · 18/05/2011 17:12

:( :( :( ((( Dachs ))) :(:(:( I'm willing those pups to stay put

wombatinwaiting · 18/05/2011 17:07

Sorry - forgot to add what great news for collie - hope the two week wait (ironic, eh?) isn't too painful - I take it you got the good results based on NT scan today and then the bloods will give you an even more accurate result in 2 weeks?

wombatinwaiting · 18/05/2011 17:04

I am so Angry for you banana - that is truly rubbish from a private scan.... do you think you will take it further? I'd love to fly you over here to get one done at my place....

wombatinwaiting · 18/05/2011 17:03

Crumbs dachs - you have all been amazingly strong throughout this. I can only repeat what others have said about sending you all the luck and strength in the world.

hotnspicyonions · 18/05/2011 16:28

Flippin heck Dach just reading your news makes me want to reach for a large glass of something cold an alcoholic, so I'm having a naughty pint of Pepsi instead! Althought the rest of your body seems to be a bit unco-operative at the mo, those pups sound like they are strong little blighters who are not going anywhere without a fight. And you are being so strong too. I'm still keeping everything crossed and doing pelvic floor excersises to virtually help you (felt useless and needed to do something!) Thanks for keeping us posted. Sending you love and ((((hugs)))) xxx

CollieandPup · 18/05/2011 16:10

Sorry for typos pressed post instead of preview!!

CollieandPup · 18/05/2011 16:07

X-post dachs so I missed your update. I'm so so sorry. I'm just lost for words now. Is there anyway they'll try again? The waiting must be he'll, but each day longer they hang in there is good news. Thinking of you. Xx

thanks cep cat (he) ok. He has broken out in small blad patches and scabs. Happened this time last year whilst we were in japan but pit it down to us being away for so long. As it's flared up again at the same time she thinks it's an alergy. He's had some injections to sort the skin out, but looks like he'll need tests later on, which will cost a few hundred squid..... Wishing I had pet insurance right now!!!

lara yes I've been working from home today, but there's been very little work done. I managed to deal with a few emails this morning (inbetween stressing) and have litterally only just got back in after running around! I wouldn't beat yourself up about it. I've barely been functioning these past few weeks and only realised this week how unproductive I must have been as now my energy levels have gone up and my stress levels gone down, I'm able to concentrate and actually get some respectable levels of work done. They way I see it is, I slog my guts out mist weeks of the year so I'm entitled to a couple of weeks of working lees hard whine I get through the first few stressful weeks of being of again.

Any news from minnie ?

IreneHeron · 18/05/2011 16:04

Banana, yes I had to wait 10 days. I think it depends who does your scan. My SIL had a consultant do hers so had a pretty good idea how well it went on the day. I didn't have a consultant and the results had to be combined with the blood results to determine the risks. On the day the lady said she couldn't really put all the pieces of the puzzle together for me so wasn't able to give me a hint of the results of the test.

Dachs sorry to hear about the op. Thinking of you and Mr Dachs, you're really going through it.

UrbanLolly · 18/05/2011 15:42

That's terrible dachs what's the next step? Surely there is something that can be done... ? Have everything crossed X

Blackkat · 18/05/2011 15:39

Oh Dachs, sorry to hear op wasn't a success. Sad Thinking of you during this difficult waiting time

DoubleDiffedDachs · 18/05/2011 15:25

Back to just waiting now. I hate this!

LaraMi · 18/05/2011 15:10

Dachs - what a rollercoaster. What happens now? As Collie said, those little ones are real fighters. Thinking about you and praying for you.

Collie - so happy the scan went well. FYI (for future ref for any other scanners), I think the Sprite can be substituted with any fizzy (non caffeine!) drink! The sugar and the bubbles get the baby moving! After two minutes mine got bored though and went to sleep!

Minnie - good luck with your scan later.

Anyone else working from home today? (I think you are Collie). How the hell am I supposed to be able to work after my scan? It's the last thing I feel like doing.... My MD called and tried to be all motivational about two projects I'm doing, telling me that I'm doing a fab job and that they think highly of me. I wanted to tell him: "Just you wait matey till you hear the news I'm about to hit you with!"

I might go and bake banana cake...

Blackkat - I miss being your twin already. Maybe when you have your next scan, they will move you along by a week (and that will prove that we really are twins). We can both still mental though - we're both pretty bonkers.

PinkFondantFancy · 18/05/2011 15:08

dacha what do they suggest is the next step?

banana sorry your scan was underwhelming :( sometimes I do wonder why these people dot the job they do. If you're based in London, go to the Fetal Medixine Centre if you ever need another private scan, they are great.

Lara really happy for you too!! Have a nap!

cep · 18/05/2011 14:58

collie yay for good scan. sorry about your kitty cat hope she gets better soon.
