Just found out you are pregnant after a previous miscarriage and too nervous to move over the to pregnancy boards? Freaking out about spotting, cramping, symptoms (or lack there of) and nervously awaiting your first scan? Here is a lovely place for lot's of support, hand holding and problem sharing.

Courtesy of owlbooty here are the Ten Commandments of the Freak Out Room.

  1. Thou shalt check thy knickers to the point of insanity until the baby actually arrives.
  2. Thou shalt also check the loo roll post-wipeage (sorry, gross, I know)
  3. Thou shalt bore thy physician and midwife to tears with the mentalling.
  4. And thy husband/boyfriend/family/neighbour's cat.
  5. Thou shalt obsess over the absence of symptoms.
  6. And the presence of symptoms.
  7. And the fluctuation of symptoms.
  8. Thou shalt pee on a vast number of sticks and keep ClearBlue and First Response in business.
  9. The day before any scan extreme mentalling is permitted without recourse to the Haddock.
10. Self-diagnosis with Dr Google is Forbidden.

The Haddock will be applied liberally to all transgressors.

dachs I'm glad to hear that you and DH are able to go away. I think a holiday in a different, beautiful place is a wonderful thing during difficult times. Venice will be perfect. I've never been but my brother's just come back and he recommends a restaurant called Il Ridotto

olis I was really excited to see you on here but sorry you haven't got a clear result yet. Any more news? 10 dpo is pretty early!

After a week or two of grade A freaking out I caved earlier this week and booked myself in for a private scan this morning. I had a really scary moment at the start of the ultrasound when there was a long silence and she couldn't see anything on the screen...then I heard the dreaded words "I need to do an internal scan". My legs were shaking so badly she had to wait for me to calm down before getting the old dildo cam out. It turns out my uterus was 'retroverted' and hidden by the shadow of my bowels...but my bean was in there measuring spot on for 9+1 and with a good strong heartbeat. So relieved!

Having terrible sleep here too larami -got a terrible blocked nose that is giving me a really dry mouth when sleeping and I'm having really weird dreams that wake me up. Gonna try and have a nap now!

LaraMi · 27/05/2011 09:05

Morning Ladies

Thought I'd update the list (psychologically it makes the days pass faster!)

Enjoy Venice Dachs - perfect time of year to go.

Good luck today Battery.

Anyone else having really bad sleep? I have gone from sleeping like a baby to being an insomniac. Am uncomfy, have a zillion things on my mind and constantly need to wee.

Aside from that, feel so inbetween at the mo although def looking pg. My "baby on board" badge arrived from TFL and I am too scared to wear it! DH was insistent I wore it today (politically incorrect line he used that nearly won me over was "those badges are a lifeline for people like me to help us differentiate between pregnant ladies that need a seat and just porkers"!) I put the badge on but then subsequently took it off halfway to the station. Don't know why I'm scared to wear it - something perhaps about not wanting to draw attention to myself although am well aware that in dog-eat-dog London, most people will just ignore it.

Anyways - today's grand list:

Morning ladies - just checking in quickly on my way to Spain where there's no wifi in the villa Shock so although I will be lurking sporadically I won't be posting much over the next week.

updiffed sorry you had a scare, great news on the hb and bean measuring right though, focus on that if you can.

Welcome to all newbies, and good luck for any upcoming scans this week.

olis sorry things are not more clear - maybe just too early? Might be worth another try - I found the cb digis good for clarity in the early days.

Much love to dachs - can't help re Venice but hope you have a fantastic time x

pigletmania · 26/05/2011 22:31

Yes dooscooby I totally sympathise, I might be hungry very hungry but only for certain things, meaty smells, make me want to throw up, i have a BBQ on Sunday how will I cope. I usually love BBQ

pigletmania · 26/05/2011 22:29

harassed I feel the same too. I have all day nausea, and find that not eating makes things 10 times worse, and eating makes it so much better. So I am not the only one too Smile

dooscooby · 26/05/2011 22:23

hairy I'm exactly the same with food. I'm hungry, sometimes starving but the smell and thought of most food makes me want to puke. If I just eat without having to smell or think, I can normally manage things, but it doesn't make for very relaxing mealtimes, I feel like a really fussy kid with ever changing food aversions!

I also can't stand most smells-any perfume, aftershave, food, coffee, herbs are particularly bad.

dachs I've been to Venice but years ago so I don't remember much!. I hope that you have a restful break with DH x

harassedinherpants · 26/05/2011 21:46

hairy I've been like that for a while but also find eating is the only thing that keeps the all day nausea at bay. As a result I'm very fickle with my food! What I loved one day makes me throw up the next. And smells?! I struggle in Tesco, the place stinks! Can't do cat food any more and have thrown out several of dh's deodorants. It was much better yesterday, but back with a vengeance today!

IreneHeron · 26/05/2011 21:14

Dachs, Venice is absolutely lovely. I've been there many times although sadly not when I've had any money to spare on eating out in nice restaurants. I hope you and your DH find a bit of space there and have a great time together.

Hairy, I'm out of my lost appetite phase and in to my acid reflux phase. Going at the Gaviscon like a demon.

hairylights · 26/05/2011 21:07

Hey battery nice to see you!

The thing is anything could happen at any time so for me any scan before twelve weeks seems a bit pointless, unless it's to pick up a problem. I'm also wary of having them weekly as that will heighten the anxiety.

I want to get to twelve weeks and all be well. But i also want to know if it's gone wrong as soon as it has. And I can't have it both ways.

hairylights · 26/05/2011 20:58

Anyone else lost their taste for food? I'm hungry so not actually lost appetite, but any food I think if makes me feel sick. All I wanted today was kfc so that's what had. The thought of all the other stuff do and I thought of really made me sick. And the smell of various things makes me feel sick too - especially tuna!

AngelGeorgie · 26/05/2011 20:16

Thanks mamarara lovely words. Dachs lovely to hear you re going away I hope you enjoy it xxx

Blackkat · 26/05/2011 20:06

Battery was about to nip over to the other thread to wish you luck, but will do so here, hope all goes well tomorrow and to see you on the list Smile

Blackkat · 26/05/2011 20:04

Dachs I do hope you enjoy Venice, I agree just wandering around and soaking up the atmosphere is fantastic.
I was recommended this restaurant by an Italian friend when I went a number of years ago. Apparently it's the place all the gondoliers eat (I am a little dubious). However the food and the atmosphere were great and DH and I really enjoyed ourselves. Seem to remember we had to wait to get a table as had neglected to book.
Trip advisor review looks ok too. www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g187870-d1034566-Reviews-Cantina_Do_Mori-Venice_Veneto.html.
Would also recommend visiting the Doge's Palace, St Marks, the Campanile and also if you get time getting a vaporetto to one of the smaller islands.
It's also incredible visiting all the smaller churches, we found one that had a concert one evening and really enjoyed the music, candlelight and atmosphere. I really hope you have a calm and relaxing time. Will be thinking of you.

HiHP Good luck with the move, hope all goes well

Updiffed have fxed for you.

izzy think you're heading off on hols, hope you have a great time and the ash cloud doesn't disturb your plans.

to everyone else

starkadder · 26/05/2011 19:36

Hi dachs - just wanted to say hi, I've been lurking and following your story, and I think you're amazing to come back and post on here.

I went to Venice a few years ago and I think the best thing to do is to wander around - sounds daft but it is such a beautiful place that trying to do more than just wander, drink coffee, drink lovely aperitifs in beautiful squares, etc is not necessary :)

We did find that if we strayed away from eating pizza, we had terrible experiences, getting ripped off in crap restaurants. So maybe take a really upmarket guidebook so you can find properly nice places, e.g. this one

I also wanted to say I'm sorry you're having such a tough time. Milk coming in must be absolutely awful. We are thinking of you.

katherine2008 · 26/05/2011 19:34

dachs another one who hasn't been to Venice, so I can't offer any useful advice. I'm sorry that you are having to go through sore boobs and hope that tomorrow is a better day.
updiffed - grr to rotten mw, hope that you can rest out and I feel sure that the positive outcome you deserve is just round the corner.
hairy can you bear to have a scan at 9 weeks. I had a panic at 9 weeks as my symptoms had gone, and actually it was a good time to go.
battery good luck with your scan tomorrow and I look forward to seeing you on the list.
Waves to everyone and hopes that everyone is doing ok

batteryhen · 26/05/2011 19:08

dach not been to venice but have also heard lots of lovely things about it. Sorry you are having a bad day, I hope tomorrow might be a bit better x

updiffed I just wanted to say I too had a bleed a few weeks ago. I spotted for a few days and then stopped, then a few days later got up from bed and had blood running down my legs, it scared me to death. I had a scan after and all was ok. Like you I am still worried it will happen agin - I dread going to the loo xxx

hairy I too have dilemas like that, but as my last mmc was at 12 weeks and the baby died at 9, I want to know. I can't bear the idea of me going around with something wrong and not knowing about it. I want to know sooner rather than later. I am sure you will make the decision that is right for you xx

Big wave to everyone, have been keeping a low profile, not joined the list yet,I have a scan tomorrow so I may join it after that if all is OK xx

harassedinherpants · 26/05/2011 18:36

Dachs I've not been to Venice but a friend has and she loved it. Said it's incredibly beautiful. Hope it's just what you need.

Alternating hot and cold flannels may help with your sore breasts. I may be wrong, but I think there is a medication to help dry it all up.

Olismum so sorry lovely x

Updiffed so sorry about your scare and appalling treatment. Hope you're on the sofa or in bed....lots of rest.

Hairy not sure what to suggest, that is a dilemma!

Sorry if I'm not around much, we're moving over the weekend and trying to get the last bits packed. Oh it's soo much fun. Not!

I thought my sickness was improving but it's back with a vengeance today! I spoke far to soon. My belly is huge and bloated though. I look preg today! Dd keeps commenting on my fat belly Hmm.

pigletmania · 26/05/2011 18:09

Oh dachs Sad hope that you have a fantastic holiday in Venice, you deserve it. I am not sure what to see as Ive never been there so sorry can't help. Have a lovely time xxxxxx

pigletmania · 26/05/2011 18:07

oh olismums Sad big hugs to you hun

hairylights · 26/05/2011 17:52

Hello dachs I hope Venice is lovely.

I'm more tired than I've ever been in my life so I am hoping against hope that it's a good sign.

In a huge dilemma about scans.

Week ten I'm away for a few days and would like to know either way by then, dont want to have a scan too early (baby 2 died at 8.5) but if I wait til nine weeks I mint have to have a procedure right before going away.

SadlyNoLongerDiffedDachs · 26/05/2011 17:37

Have booked a few days in Venice for me and DH. At end of June. Anyone got any advice on what to do/not to do whilst there? And any recommendations for good restaurants?

Having a bad day today - breasts sore with milk (which I wasn't expecting) and v sore round the tummy area too, so just trying to focus on researching stuff for the holiday so I don't think about the other stuff too much.

Good luck to all of you having stressful time at the moment.

mamarara · 26/05/2011 17:25

You are properly amazing dachs and angelgeorgie - and really inspirational. As a previous post said I bow down before you!

Sorry to hear about bleed - updiffed - really hope everything is ok. Bloody medical staff can be so flippant about such important things.

I told the first person about being pg yesterday and actually said 'yes but don't get it excited it will probably go wrong' when they tried to congratulate me. They gave me a look like 'weirdo'. They're not wrong.

updiffed · 26/05/2011 17:15

Thank you all for the lovely supportive messages. I'm a nervous wreck. Thats putting it very mildly. DH took today off work, we have 2 DCs already, so trying hard to put my feet up etc..
I completely paranoid feel that every twinge is the start of m/c :(
I haven't had any fresh blood today, only old brown stuff on wipeage, but seriously Im practically afraid to fart let alone anything else.
I updated my stats with my next scan, which is in 2 weeks, hoping beyond hope that I get that far.
Rang my local EPU today (as was in a different county visiting my folks when I had the bleed, and so I was seen in a "foreign" hospital). Anyway Midwife I spoke to was a right old boot, very snippy and brusk, I felt such a time waster, she asked me when Id started bleeding, and I wasnt sure if she meant in this time around or in my last m/c, so I asked her and she said "In this miscarriage.." Then very very hurridly corrected herself to . Charming. Anyway once I said I'd had a scan and there was a HB, her attitude completely changed!!! She couldnt do enough to help. Really makes my blood boil, m/c women shouldn't be treated like that.
Sorry rant over.

Anyway, Im still terrified, I look dreadful, v pale etc, but hoping that the wee flickering hb I saw, will stick with us and come out and meet his/her siblings in a couple of months time.....

Hope you are all well today, and that Dachs is resting and planning some fun times for her and MrDachs..
