First clomid pill popped last night

After more than a decade of fertility problems/miscarriages and then 2 miracle kids, we are embarking on our last ditch attempt for #3. It may be greedy, it may be foolish but we would love to have a bigger family. i don't seem able to get pg without intervention so clomid has been prescribed again.

If it doesn't work then I think we will finally have closure on a very long fertility journey. Even if it DOES work then it will be another miracle if I can hang on to the pg. I have had 7 m/c over the years.

We are very very lucky to have our 2 dcs but fingers crossed the lucky pills have one more dose of baby dust inside.

Hello, how is everyone doing?
Got AF today (BOO!) but on the plus side I managed to get a 12 day LP this cycle - my best ever! Plus my progesterone test at 7dpo was really good.
So... onto round 2 of Clomid 100mg.
Good luck to all x

hippychick66 · 18/07/2011 16:22

biscuits got another positive on the OPk today. Spoke to my GP but to be honest I think i know more about the subject than she does. She just said she thinks stress has stopped me from oving and I'm now on the second half of the cycle. (that doesn't make sense to me at all cos no temp rise but ho hum) She doesn't think producing an egg and not popping it will do me any harm and expects things to be fine once we've moved and the stress is over.

I googled people having a weeks worth of positive opks and they all turned out to be pregnant - so i did a hpt and got a big fat zero - the only stick not to give me a second line.Shock

I hope the temp drop isn't bad news for you.

X

Biscuitsandtea · 18/07/2011 07:23

Morning ladies,

Hope you are all well.

Hippy has that egg popped yet? Did you say on another thread somewhere you were going to check with your GP about this big long ov? Hope it sorts itself out for you xx

My temperature dropped again this morning (about 7 or 8 dpo I think) so looks like I will be doing the Clomid once AF rolls in - but could still be waiting a week for that :(

Ah well - we'll just have to see what happens.

Time for a Brew xx

hippychick66 · 16/07/2011 20:07

I've only tried one months worth at the moment and was not successful but don't let that put you off Grin

Biscuitsandtea · 16/07/2011 19:54

And did it work Hippy? Thanks for the pointers though x

hippychick66 · 16/07/2011 19:18

hello biscuitsandtea - good luck with the clomid. Yes i ovulate regularly too and do wonder what will happen with clomid - but what the hell - in for a penny etc.

The only advise i can give is to take the tabs at night. I have heard they can give you a headache or make you feel sick (not that they did that to me), and obviously better to sleep through all that. Grin

Biscuitsandtea · 15/07/2011 21:23

Oooh, and a question if I may...

Do the pills have to be taken at the same time or any specific time in the day?

Thanks x

Biscuitsandtea · 15/07/2011 18:47

Evening Ladies - I wonder if I might join you/

We have been ttc no 2 for 19 months with no joy. Been through all the normal tests etc and nothing obvious coming up and consultant has today prescribed us 3 months of Clomid to see if that can do the trick.

I have pretty regular cycles and do seem to be ov'ing and so was a bit surprised that they suggested this (but I think that says more about my lack of knowledge on the subject!).

Anyway, I have to start on day 2 of my next cycle so just wondered if anyone had any helpful hints or tales to tell?

hippychick66 · 15/07/2011 10:09

thanks mrs - deep down i do think it's stress (I just have to keep shagging - yawn yawn!!) - i hope the spotting is not bad news for you. X

MrsHY1 · 15/07/2011 08:43

Hi hippychick66, good to have you back!

Obviously all the caveats apply re. I'm not medically qualified rah rah rah, but from what you've said there and what I've read, I reckon the stress of the move could definitely have contributed to a few false starts on the ovulation front. I had a similar situation in April when my body was gearing up for O (and OPKs confirmed it) but then I took at 13hr flight and O retreated - finally O'ed about 2 weeks later but by that point I'd given it up as an anovulatory cycle and no BD-ing was done whatsoever!

Probably worth getting a new thermometer to be on the safe side though?

I had a meltdown last night - was really pleased and secretly hopeful as I normally start to spot brown (sorry!) 2-5 dpo and yesterday at 8pm on 6dpo I still had nothing. But last night about 10pm before I went to bed I wiped, and had bright pinky/red watery spotting. I'd LOVE to think it was implantation bleeding, but I had this kind of spotting one cycle before at 3dpo and I'm fairly certain it wasn't implantation bleeding at that point because it would have been way too early. Think it's just my messed up, uncorrected by the Clomid luteal phase defect rearing its unpleasant head.

That said, my temp had gone up a nice couple of notches this morning so I'm not going to get all despondent before it drops back down and my period starts full throttle.

Hope everyone else is well x

hippychick66 · 14/07/2011 09:38

Hi, sorry I have been absent but I have been so busy. I have tried to catch up with you all and had a read through. Congrats to kea - great news.

I just wanted to ask if anyone has an opinion on this:-

We are moving in 2 weeks and only confirmed where we are moving to a few days ago, the house is full of stuff and time is ticking by so i am STRESSED. I have had the 2 lines on an OPK 3 times this month and have failed to ovulate after. I keep checking my temp and it is still low, then a few days go by and I feel like I'm about to ovulate, i check on the OPK's and they say yes, we do some shagging and then no temp rise. It's very frustrating. I purposely didn't take clomid this month cos I suspected it would be a stressful time and i only had 2 months supply left.

so, do you think A) my body is trying to ovulate but the stress is stopping it. B) the one months worth of clomid I took last month has cocked up my system, C) I have suddenly developed PCOS in my 40s or God forbid D) I'm pre-menopausal?????

I am worried that i might be damaging my ovaries in some way. Also there is an E option - the thermometer could be broken cos I am getting very erratic temps but only 1 that suggested I was post ovulation.

Sorry to barge on and waffle on about me Blush

twolittlemonkeys · 13/07/2011 20:12

You're right. I think I will have to invest in OV sticks. Not expensive off Ebay - will buy a shedload, like I do HPTs!

I think next cycle I will go in all guns blazing, use OV sticks, increase the Clomid to 150mg and hope that it works.

MrsHY1 · 13/07/2011 14:36

Just popped out to cash in my private prescription - £8.46 for two courses of 100mg. Didn't think that was bad!

Of course I hope I don't need it at all - but only 5dpo today so can't get that excited!

MrsHY1 · 12/07/2011 22:11

Twolittlemonkeys: What a pain for you. I know what you mean about the faff of OPKs and temperature charts (I'm fairly certain this was you but forgive me if not!) but I must say I've found them invaluable in confirming my ovulation. If I were you, I would be inclined to increase the dose as it worked for me. But I must admit, I don't know whether resistance to Clomid is possible or whether you've had an unlucky cycle?

Jebel - I'm really sorry about the negative bloods and the query on whether you ovulated. That sounds really odd to me - I wouldn't have thought you'd have got a false positive smiley - I've heard that happening to ladies with PCOS but I thought that was resolved with Clomid. Could it be that as you say, you may have been gearing up for ovulation, but it took more than 36 hrs to happen and the progesterone stopped it in its tracks? How many dpo did you start the progesterone?

What dose of Clomid are you on? I'd say it's worth a cycle on 150mg or 100mg to see if that makes a difference. And maybe temp chart so you can be sure that O has happened? (as you can probably gather I'm a bit of a charting fan!)

Jebel · 12/07/2011 19:41

two it is tricky and after today am at a loss to understand it all.

Blood test negative. I did read some other reports about sainsbury's tests showing a thin line but being false positive. It does say in instructions that line should be equal width and mine wasn't.

Am all of a bother as doc has gone as far as saying that from ultrasound she doesn't think I actually ov'd. Am wondering if I actually got a false positive smiley face and therefore started on progesterone too early which prevented ovulation. This just occurred to me so didn't ask doc. Anyway doc is saying I should start daily injections when af comes as didn't ov this month on clomid. I am unsure. It is hard to know living in a land of anything goes regarding drugs and treatment whether it is the right thing to do. My only reference point is nhs which is cash strapped so holds back and is the opposite of here.
My treatment seems so much more intensive - I have only done 2 cycles of clomid.

Anyway. Off to mull. Good luck all.

twolittlemonkeys · 12/07/2011 12:48

Sounds promising Jebel, keeping fingers crossed for you! MrsHY1 sounds like things are going well for you too! Congrats KEA.

I'm on CD37 and still nothing. Will do yet another HPT tomorrow though I strongly suspect the Clomid hasn't made me OV at all. Really cross as going on holiday on Friday and can guarantee the witch will turn up and stop me going swimming or something. Grrrrr.

As I'm not being monitored in any way I was wondering - ought I to try increasing my dose from 100mg to 150mg? Didn't notice any difference in symptoms going from 50mg to 100mg but now it appears 100mg no longer works - perhaps my body is becoming resistant to it? If it was working as it should then I'd have had AF by now surely?

Jebel · 12/07/2011 09:38

that's good news mrs.

I had a sliver, a glimmer of hope this morning. So so so faint so just don't want to get excited and have had 2 chem pgs before. Going to my doc this eve for a blood test if I can.

emmaloupolman · 11/07/2011 20:54

Congrats kea
I have taken 5 months of clomid and only alowed one more month so i might mension that next time i go to the gp

MrsHY1 · 11/07/2011 19:35

Oh Jebel I've got everything crossed that this is your month!! And congrats too Kea.

Update from me - I definitely ovulated at some point on Friday (got my smiley face on Thurs) as I had my temp rise on Saturday morning. We did DTD on the Thursday night after all, so I've got everything crossed that we catch the egg.

Saw a private GP this evening who is happy to prescribe me more Clomid at 100mg - she's given me two more cycles at 100mg then we'll review - with a view to prescribing three more (the hospital were always a bit funny about increasing my dose as I was ovulating anyway - REALLY late though, so I didn't fit into one of their protocols). I have agreed that next cycle I'll have follicle tracking to make sure I've not developed loads of dominant follicles, so am going to a private centre in London.

Am also going to have a 7dpo progesterone test - the first time I've been offered one - to assess whether I could also benefit from progesterone tabs (reckon I can given my naturally short LP and spotting).

So am feeling pretty positive right now :-)

Jebel · 11/07/2011 08:27

Congratulations KEA and good to know progesterone worked for you. I am taking it also but in tablet form. Finished last one on Saturday morning so expecting AF any moment unless by some miracle I am pg. Now 15 DPO. Progesterone has extended my luteal phase to 14 days in previous months so I can't help but be a little hopeful. I have no symptoms, don't feel like AF is coming at all.

KEA · 10/07/2011 22:07

Hi All, haven't logged for ages as was trying not to think too much about it all but wanted to share some info..

My first round of clomid induced ovulation day 20 but cycle was 27 days(have had short luteal phase for 2 years since Ttc). So this cycle I asked if I could try progesterone to extend cycle (despite various previous blood tests saying progesterone ok). Nurse told me to get on with it morning & night after high fert on monitor. This involved waking up at 5.15am! Anyway it worked and I got a BFP last week.

So if you think your cycle is too short ask about progesterone. I took Crinone gel which you insert for 2 weeks post ovulation & I am now continuing for a further 4 weeks. Interestingly hospital prescription was £18 but private prescription from GP was £48! Hope this helps.

Jebel · 09/07/2011 19:02

Sounds frustrating two. I am paying through the nose (outside uk) for my treatment but I do feel slightly in control as I have regular monitoring to check I am ovulating.

Am fairly sure af is coming tomorrow for me.

twolittlemonkeys · 08/07/2011 14:09

Dammit, tested again today and BFN. Where the hell is AF? I'm beginning to think my body's becoming resistant to Clomid - First of all 50mg worked - clockwork 28 day cycles with OV around CD14/15, then didn't so switched to 100mg which worked for a cycle or two but now appears to have failed to make me ovulate. Confused Can't even ask for a scan/ blood test as the fertility clinic at our hospital closed down so I'm taking the Clomid unsupervised - the lovely nurse who used to run the clinic prescribed me 6 months' worth just before she left.

Jebel · 07/07/2011 19:00

mrshy1 - my gynae always says to do it night of smiley face and the next night and the next night (I never manage the 3rd night) so if you can get him in the mood, I would go for it.

emma fx for you ov is a little late.

I am nearly at the end of my 2ww and am fairly sure this month it is very unlikely as only DTD once. I get back home on Saturday and have decided to stop drinking until the end of Ramadan which is 1.5 months away. Nothing to do with religion, just booze is harder to come by during Ramadan and most of my friends will be in the UK all summer so I'll be able to be a hermit. Think I owe it to my body if I am taking all these drugs to get me pg. Alcohol is the expat curse.

emmaloupolman · 07/07/2011 14:20

i am excpeted to ovulate between today and tuesday hubby is away now till monday Sad fingers crossed i ovulate late this month
