Freak out room for those newly updiffed after mc - Part V

Dachs - kennels is a really good idea - we're not further enough along for me to give it too much thought yet but I think that's a brilliant idea. Our dogs are also very well behaved but feeding them, walking them, washing their bedding and of course giving them the attention they deserve etc is just another thing to think about when so much will already be new with a new baby. My DH is already stressing about what he'll do with the dogs when I go into labour and worries that knowing Sods Law, in the vital 20 minutes he'd rush home to let the dogs out, Baby would enter the world! I think we'll consider kennels but I guess the only challenge will be timing it right.

I say all this confidently but have been getting lots of twinges today and spent half a hour stressing that a MC would follow! Not painful twinges, just weird twinges low at the front and also lower back. I guess it's probs just "stuff stretching". I haven't had it for about 5 days so it made me panic when it came back but I guess stretching won't be constant, right? I mean, I'm not stretching to accommodate a house!

Just got back from scan, all is good. NT measurement 1.6mm, doc said with a low reading like that bloods aren't really needed. Bean had a proper little tantrum, kicking out and banging fists :) so a sigh of relief from me.

Edd changed to 28/10 so can whoever does the list next update for me please

larami I'm not really nervous of the dogs with the babies, although I'm not planning to leave them alone together. Eris is about 3 years older than Ellie and when we got Ellie, Eric was really really really good with her and seemed to know that she was very delicate and that he needed to look after her and take special care around here. Ellie is very very soft and soppy and would rather have a cuddle than anything else, so I think they'll be ok. Bound to be a bit jealous at first, but we are planning to put the dogs in kennels when we have the twins and get them back when we're settled in back at home so the babies will be there and their smell will be in the air, and then we'll be firm with the dogs about licking and bouncing on them and make sure they know that the babies outrank them in the pack. The best way to deal with their jealousy etc. or misbehaving to get our attention is just to completely ignore them. They soon get bored and settle down.

pink Good to see you are recovering a bit :) Which prams have you got your eye on? Tell me more about this BBC3 thing - I didn't notice it on the listings! (Although thinking about it maybe that's 'cos we go home v late last night after our doc appointment and pram shopping, so maybe it was over by the time I got home. I blame Brian for not realising that before!)

Sounds like you all reckon I should go for it with the pram, so I might run it past DH tonight and see what he thinks. Yesterday I got 'whatever you think - you're the one it matters to most' so today I'll try to get an actual opinion out of him (he's v keen on the pram though, he's just being non-committal about when he thinks we should order it)

mamap helllllooooooooo I'm doing well thanks - the breathlessness seems to have gone away except if I get really knackered (which doesn't take much)... MS has largely gone away, except again if I'm knackered I start dry retching again. Is there any way you can give yourself a bit of a break to catch up on sleep, you have been so crazy busy lately. Your bar looks amazing by the way, I've been stalking it on the internet :)

Hehehe to all the doppler chat - I've been lucky and the dr/midwife have picked up the heartbeat straightaway both times but I've banned DH from getting one (he is desperate to) as unfortunately he can't listen in without my co-operation and although he's sensible enough that it won't cause him to mental, it will definitely freak me out if he can't find it!!

dachs I've been looking at prams too, and like you I think I'll wait until the 20 week scan and then probably the purchasing brakes will be off. I don't think you can jinx anything and if, god forbid, something did happen to your pups and JL won't take it back, if it's limited edition and they're not going to start making them again until September, you'll sell it on again for basically the same money no probs if it's new and boxed. But clearly you're not going to end up in that scenario, and the risk of being disappointed that they've run out is much higher IMO.

Oooh all this homebirth chat is interesting. I have gone mental and booked an independent midwife . This is mainly because I'm terrified of DH and I being left without a midwife for long periods of time when we're in the hospital and also because she gives fab post natal support and I'm keen to give breast feeding a try. But using an IM means that we could have a homebirth in a birthing pool.... Mum thinks this is the maddest, most dangerous idea ever. I'm not so sure, I think it could be nice and a lot less stressful than going to hospital but don't know if I'd be stressed that I was quite a long way from medical help if needed. Think I need to give this lots more thought but it's nice to have the option.

I've just been to Champneys and spent my birthday vouchers from last year on a 'beautiful bump' massage - was completely amazing. Reckon I'll ask for more vouchers for my birthday in August this year and get another done when I'm hopefully as big as a house.

velvet eggs would be fab is you can stomach them? Did you have a scan today? How did it go?

We have two Shar Pei - my boy dog (quite thick) would probs bark at the baby as it came, erm, out which wouldn't be the grand entrance to the world I would have liked. My maternal girl dog would probably spend the entirety of labour trying to clean me up through incessant licking.

On another note, are you anxious at all about your two dogs and the babies, Dachs? I am not worried as they do listen and are well behaved but I do wonder how they will be initially with it all. Their breeder (aka the Dog Whisperer) said they will be extremely protective over the baby but I am aware I will need to a) set firm ground rules for the dogs and b) ensure they don't get jealous.

oooh - what kind of dogs? I think my two would be totally freaked out by the whole thing and run away and hide!

Although a homebirth in theory sounds fab, it just wouldn't work in my house as a reality. I can imagine my two dogs trying to jump in...!

MamaP I want a homebirth too - people keep telling me I'm nuts as it is my first. However they can all sod off; if I'm at home then I can get Mr Boots to make me fried egg butties midway through if required.

Thankfully my MW is supportive although I'll have to find out if she wants a fried egg butty too and plan accordingly.

I truly dislike the dopplers as even the MW has a bugger of a time finding the Owlet every time I visit; I am certain that even now I would possibly struggle.

well no cancellation call so wait for scan on Tuesday, which i'm ok with. sorry for those feeling sick, mine mostly gone i keep getting odd waves but thats it.

I think they'd refund too Dachs and if you want a donkey then I think getting in quick is the way forward.

I'm also nervous about buying anything (esp as I'm still bleeding). We have an agreement in our house that we won't actually get anything until 24 weeks. Looking in the meantime is fine though

Dachs if you're buying from JL, apparently they have a sort of 'baby list' system where you put items on your list (and pay for them I think) but they keep them for you until you're ready to have them delivered closer to your EDD, or even once the babies have safely arrived, so you don't have to have anything in the house until you're ready to. Sounds like a great idea to me!

Dachs - I got a scan at the appt on wednesday because after one go with the doppler the ob said it was impossible to reliably here twins at 16 weeks.

If its any consolation mama i am 23+5 and for the last 5 days have felt as nauseous as hell.....WTF??!! Still retching when brush teeth!!! Home birth? 50 mins from hosp - wow :)

YES dachs i think they would refund....!

velvet The prospect of buying something is really really scary. Not sure what the point to feel safe enough to start buying stuff would be. My obstetrician, who is really lovely, keeps trying to tell me that everything looks great and that he's not concerned about anything, but I'm still worried that there won't be a baby next time I have an appointment.

I wish we were all in that blissful state of happy anticipation that we would have been without the mc. It must be so nice not to have all this extra stress.

I wasn't planning on buying anything until 20 weeks, but that still seems a really long time away!

If I ordered the pram from John Lewis and something went wrong with the babies, do you think they'd give me a refund?

I bought a Doppler at 12 weeks. I haven't heard anything at all yet - can't even get my own heartbeat reliably!

wombat I am a right miserable cow this morning as morning sickness is back with a vengeance (yes I am 16 weeks, pah) and you and Brian are the only things to make me laugh all morning mwah

I'm meeting my new midwife on wednesday but I spoke to her earlier this week and when I said I wanted a home birth she seemed immediately positive and supportive! let's hope they're still saying that when they realise I'm in the arse end of nowhere and 50min's from the nearest hospital!!!

Hi everyone, sorry for not reading back properly, theres been a lot of chatter over the past day or so and i'm just knackered. morning all day sickness is taking its toll. Up all night last night so working from home to avoid having another sick day, but its proving rather unsuccessfull!! Really struggling to keep anything down and have totally lost my appetite which is very unlike me.

Izzy you mentioned a while ago that you were planning a 12 week private scan bcs you wanted a late dating scan on the nhs. Is that why your having your NT private as it would be too late or bcs you think the services would be better? I think the wait that poor knitter had to go through was just awful.

cep glad you've managed to get a scan at EPU, did you ring them direct to ask?

Lara I feel a bit like i wish i'd have put off the scan when refered at 6 weeks, as i'm so anxious about going out next week, but then on the other hand i was so worried at the time that it wasn't a 'real' pg.
