Hi Girls,

Found out today that I have polycystic ovaries, I haven't ovulated for 6 months and I've not had a period for 3 months.

Going to see the Doctor on Friday to discuss my options (hoping for Clomid).

What are other peoples experiences with this? I'm feeling a bit lost.

8Babyborn* Awh that's such good news for your friend! I started having my bloods done on day 21, assuming I had a 28 days cycle, but I haven't had a period for four months, so they started to test every week to see if I ovulated at all, which I haven't.

I've got an appointment at the hospital to see a gynaecologist/fertility clinic on the 28th. I've got so many questions that I want to ask, I can't wait to go!

What was the news from the doctor?

I had bloods done taken yesterday hippie it was done on day 26 given i usually have a 31-33 day cycle? Waiting for results, should see doc tomoz, how are u getting on with it all?

A friend of mine has just found out she is pregnant, she had PCOS since she was 16, shes nearly 34, she had been trying for a baby for 5 years, she just had 2 months on metaformin and just got her BFP! I am made up for her, hoping we all get ours soon too!

hippieshake · 13/04/2011 20:15

Babyborn I'm not sure, I think it should slowly rise upto ovulation, then drop back down during menstruation.

Thank you for the recommendation.

Likesshinythings · 11/04/2011 12:56

eurochick, I am in London and do have someone that I would recommend. Her website is www.juliaexposito.co.uk
She helped me with ttc (not convinced I would have done without the treatment) and I then saw her all through my pregnancy, just once a month, which really helped to keep me well. And, as I say, she helped evict DS when his time was up!
Hope that helps

BabyBorn · 11/04/2011 11:21

Reflexology

BabyBorn · 11/04/2011 11:21

Relexology is supposed to be amazing too

eurochick · 11/04/2011 11:11

Likesshinythings I am considering acupuncture at the moment. How did you find a practitioner? (And if you happen to be in London, is there anyone in particular you would recommend?

BabyBorn · 11/04/2011 11:07

How soon is it before ovulation that the levels rise hippie, do you know? x

Likesshinythings · 11/04/2011 09:58

Hello Ladies. I just wanted to add a positive story here. I was diagnosed with PCOS in my early 20s, so knew that I would be facing a possible up-hill struggle when TTC. I swear by acupuncture - got my cycle into some semblance of regularity and got my BFP within about 6 months.
Acupuncture also a very successful in bringing on my labour, had a session at 4pm the afternoon before my due date and DS was born at 1.22am!

hippieshake · 11/04/2011 09:37

Hi babyborn that sounds like you haven't ovulated, my progesterone was 1.2 and they told me that I hadn't. Maybe you'll just ovulate later this month though. The waiting is horrible, I sympathise with you on that!

Let us know what they say on Friday xxx

Any news emmalou?

BabyBorn · 11/04/2011 09:22

Hi Ladies, well i had my bloods done, and NO IDEA what they mean. Testosterone levels are 0.7 and progesterone is 1.2, i had blood test last week, and would have been expecting to ovulate the day after i had the bloods done, so means with low progesterone i mustnt have been close to or even ovulated does it? I cant see my doctor until Friday. I wish i had never bothered ringing the surgery this morning for the results! Sad

emmaloupolman · 05/04/2011 16:31

OMG Hippieshake i would of been the same its people like that that fall with the drop of hat or something else lol.
Still no Af for me was due yesterday got an appointment thursday 2 get more Clomid

saysithowitis · 05/04/2011 16:27

I discovered i had Poly cystic ovaries..not PCOS,about 5 years ago.I was prescribled Clomid I conceived DD2 the very first month and DS1k 15months later. I stopped needing Clomid at that point as my family was complete. 13 months later DS2 arrived! There are some positive stories out there, but i know i'm one of the luckiest women alive.
Don't give up hope!
Good LuckSmile

matana · 05/04/2011 16:15

I have PCOS, we were TTC for 3 years and i'd all but given up hope. Started taking Agnus Castus as a final roll of the dice before putting our names down for IVF.... a month later BFP!

My beautiful 5 month old DS is currently chattering away to himself upstairs having woken from his nap. Grin

hippieshake · 05/04/2011 11:01

Moan alert...

Went into Boots yesterday to buy some heat pads because although my ovaries are failing to work, they seem just fine in causing me agony throughout the day.

Whilst down the conception/periods/pregnancy aisle I over heard a very young, very chavvy girl moaning to her equally young, chavvy male companion about how she was three weeks late for her period, and she only wanted to know if she was pregnant so she could get rid of it.

With me being on month 3 of no period, I felt like strangling her. My hormones are going wild!!

Rant over.

Hello
Apols but this is a cut and paste from another thread I'm part of - but hopefully just as relevant here!
**
Hello ladies!

Well, I had my scan and blood tests at hospital this morning! I saw a doctor for my scan - she was brilliant. She said I have a 'beautiful uterus' (!) and that my tubes and uterus lining all look OK. They can't tell for certain from a scan that there's nothing wrong with my tubes, but there was no liquid in them, which is apparently a good sign.
As suspected (and I knew this from my last scan 5 yrs ago), I have polycystic ovaries - but only 13-14 cysts on each ovary which apparently isn't bad (although it sounds horrendous!) which is why they feel I am ovulating each month, albeit rather late in my cycle.

I told the doc about how I ovulate late and get my period fairly soon after, inc spotting, and she proactively used the term 'luteal phase deficiency.' So it looks like they take it seriously which is good. NB she didn't seem overly concerned about the spotting - more that my overall LP length (inc spotting) is 9 days.

I now have a follow-up appt booked to see the consultant gynae 2 weeks tomorrow, to discuss treatment. The doc who did the scan told me there's a good chance I'll be offered Clomid, but due to my 'healthy ovaries' (albeit cysty ones!) they would be a little worried about over-stimulation and/or multiple pregnancy.

So, between now and 19th, I'm going to research my head off about Clomid so that I can ask the doc lots of questions and know what I'm talking about! The doc who did my scan said that I'll also be put on the list for IVF. That's a little scary so I'm not thinking too much about that yet - I'm hoping nature or Clomid will do the trick first!

I have pcos too. I had ovarian drilling done a couple of months ago (wasn't as scary as it sounds) going to docs tomorrow to ask for repeat of blood tests to see if I am ovulating. Really hoping it has worked otherwise I will try clomid. I have been trying to eat a low gi diet and also lost 10 lb with weight watchers so I am now a totally normal weight for my height. Losing weight is hard for me though (which the doctor warned me it would be) because of the pcos so have to be very strict with myself to lose any weight at all. I also have acne although since the ovarian drilling it is about 70% better which the doctor said could happen. Good luck to everyone trying it's so frustrating isn't it. I have been trying for 14 months and each month I get my hopes up only to be dissapointed really bored of it all now. I just want my baby!

emmaloupolman · 03/04/2011 19:05

I think u can get such symptoms when you are ovulating

hippieshake · 03/04/2011 17:51

Quick question, do any of you have pains like period pains but throughout the month? Obviously I'm not having periods so it's not that.

Also keep getting quite heavy dishcarge, but no fertile mucus. Feeling pretty gross at the moment.

4 months of concerted efforts (timing SWI, using OPKS and charting so for those 4 months at least doing the deed was well timed to coincide with ovulation). But before that we hadn't used artificial contraception for a couple of years. We weren't really trying but we weren't being that careful either. So it's a bit difficult to say! I have got as far as implantation bleeding (but no BFP) once (about a year ago) but other than that, lots of symptoms but no positive test.

MrsHY1 · 02/04/2011 22:58

Hi Eurochick
I'd kill to have a l/p of 12 days - I don't think that's causing you a problem. How long have you been trying for?x

eurochick · 02/04/2011 22:36

Babyborn, I'm 35. Practically ancient...

I didn't want kids in my 20s and just wasn't ready but I would have like to start trying a few years ago. I am a little panicked now to say the least, particularly because it hasn't happened in the first few months for us.

hippieshake · 02/04/2011 19:08

Babyborn I think it's a good idea to write down notes of things you want to cover with your doctor, I'm going to do that so when I see the gynae in a few weeks I don't miss anything. I know how you're feeling with waiting to find out though, it's a pain that the bloody tests can only be done at a certain point, then it's waiting a few weeks inbetween.

Your stories have all made me feel better. I was feeling a bit lost when I first found out. I don't think I knew what to do. It's good to hear about Clomid and Metformin though, and I will be discussing these options when I go to the fertility clinic.

Keep me updated on all of your news, I'm sending baby wishes your way!!

xx
