Getting us started on a new thread; this one is gonna be a lucky one!

OP posts:
MummyAbroad · 12/04/2011 20:05

freelance Yes, I flew to London in November for an op with an AS specialist and then had 6 weeks of hormone treatment. I got pregnant second cycle after finishing treatment. I had a clear HSG, but still thin lining, so looks like all scar tissue was successfully removed but there was still a question mark over whether there was damaged to the basal layer of the endometrium.

I hope the midwife did mean weeks not months! 6 months is ridiculous! Hope you get lucky and get a quick referral xx

freelancegirl · 12/04/2011 19:54

MummyAbroad am keeping my fingers and everything crossed that your scan goes ok. Am assuming you got treatment? So wonderful you are pg.

We are all indeed getting informed and taking charge. It's the only way. I've had to do that as a thyroid patient for the last 15 years but to be honest I only ever considered the difficulties with getting pg not actually keeping the baby.

Thanks Broken, Wiggle and Battery too. Great news about your friend Battery Thanks Wiggle for asking Dr Pumpness re antibodies if you remember.

Today I had email contact with the midwife who works with Shehata and she asked me please (x2) not to try again until I got treated. She recommended 25mcg of Vit D, Pregnacare (am taking Sanatogen, hope that's good enough - might change!), Omega 3 and also 75mcg of aspirin. I know there is meant to be caution advised in taking the latter so sure it is not for everyone. She also said they would/will give me steroids once I start treatment.

She freaked me out actually as I said I was waiting for an NHS referral and she said they have private appts in 4-6 MONTHS!! It freaked the hell out of me thinking that was private, what was NHS like. But chatting to other ladies on another thread I think she actually must have meant weeks. Sorry if am repeating myself, have been on two or three threads with the same story.

Hello to everyone else! xx

MummyAbroad · 12/04/2011 19:07

hi ladies Smile

YRMOTB so glad you got your school place - thats great! how are the wedding plans coming along?

batteryhen, I will get my magnifying glass ready so I can have a good proper look at all the evidence Grin

freelance wiggle AandR broken its really good to see you all getting so informed and taking charge of your situations, I really hope the investigations are fruitful and help you get to your goals quicker. As someone who self diagnosed via the internet I think there is a lot of value in doing your own research and being your own advocate in front of the medical professionals. I hope it makes all the difference for you guys. xx

freelance I had to make the same decision (wait for tests or start TTC) but for different reasons obviously. In the end I started TTC but was terrified all the way through, and started having big panic attacks that I would get pregnant and it would all go wrong. As "luck" would have it I didnt fall pregnant that first month, had the tests, all was fine and I carried on with a much happier outlook. Its a tough call, in my case there was a big chance that an unsuccessful pregnancy would make my condition (AS) worse than it already was, as well as being emotionally scarring, so that was very frightening. What would the physical and emotional consequences of having another mc mean to you?

ladyB welcome back!

jolls and wiggle sorry its CD1 for you both. Jolls I dont have any advice about when to call it a day, but I can tell you I asked myself the same question many many times. A big squeeze for you and I hope you find the inspiration you need to make the right decision for you xxx

I am off for a scan later today, I am 10+6, so its crunch time for seeing if the placenta attached OK. I know embryo is in the "dodgey" zone where the scar tissue was, so I am a bit nervous, but still getting strong symptoms, so I am holding on to that for hope.

big waves to everyone I didnt name check, hope you are well xxx
xxxxxxxxx

Ladybee · 11/04/2011 22:18

hi ladies, back in London, catching up but knackered and with a cold (although it appears most of my train also has the cold). AF arrived a week ago while I was on holiday, was completely rubbish, held off and spotted for a day then nothing which made me think maybe I'd be lucky, then arrived finally to dash the hopes and bring on the tears.
Not sure how we'll deal with this cycle, I suspect it'll be 'sat out' as we'll probably be so busy finalising the move we miss our chance and not sure I care to be honest.

Velvetcu · 11/04/2011 20:07

yay YRMOTB on the school place.

bb i'm getting excited for you!

battery glad you got lots of swi action at the right time, fx for you. Enjoy your 2 weeks off with dp.

I am finding all your thyroid talk very interesting, I hope you don't mind me noseying through it all.

wiggle and jolls sorry about cd1, don't know what else to say about it! :(

AandR how are you? Things sound very stressful for you, I hope that you are able to make some decisions about what to do soon.

mouse how are you feeling? any more problems from work?

batteryhen · 11/04/2011 19:56

hello everyone

Am back from germany shagged tired out. Alot has gone on whilst I have been absent!

jolls Sorry about the cd1 I know what you mean when you say when do you call it a day.I am38 but dp is 40 and he already has 2 kids so I know he will want to draw the line sooner than me:(

wiggle CD1 is crap but at least you sound positive - fingers crossed for you next time around xx

bb I am watching you - not in a creepy way but im a sort of 'are you up duffed way??Grin I also am on your way of thinking - no early testing for me. I can't take the disappointment any more :(

babe hooray for school places :)

freelance I hope you get to hear about an appointment soon. My friend was diagnosed with thyroid problems after her last mc- and now she is 22 weeks pregnant - fingers crossed for you xx

mummya - I have started charting this month again becasue I am a control freak person who likes to know what is going on. So once it gets interesting I will give you a link so you can stalk me Grin

Well my newly pregnant friend (the pee stick waving one) told me today her due date. I am a bad friend as I dont really care :( am sure I will get used to it in a few weeks.

I hope I am in with a chance this month. OVd on saturday so lots of swi action occured :) However I am feeling a bit sore throat / headache / fluey etc. Bloody planes are a breeding place for germs. I start 2 weeks holiday on friday - dp is home for 2 whole weeks :) What a big treat !

hi to mouse izzy AandR freezing chloe zam and anyone else I missed xxxx

IzzyWizzyletsgetbusy · 11/04/2011 19:08

Yay yrmotb fab news re school places!!! Grin Grin Grin

wiggle sorry you're back to cd1 Sad but it sounds like you have a good pro-active plan in place for this month!!

Have to admit to being slightly lost re the thyroid debates, but I'm reading with interest. We will all finish this mc/ttc/pg process so much more knowledgeable!!

getawiggleon · 11/04/2011 16:13

YTMOTB Great news re school! And, exhale?.Grin

Jolls Sorry for what you're going through. I hope no 5 comes around quickly and it's a sticky one. Are there any tests that you haven't had yet/would still consider?

Freelance I will ask Dr V on Fri what would happen if you became pg and then treated for antibodies. I hope your appt comes through soon.

CD1 here today, fully expected so am ok with it. Will update myself on list and try not to hash it up this time

I think I'm going to ask the clinic if it's possible to try an iui during monitoring cycle. Cycles are currently 28 days and ov on day 14 so it would just be an extra, erm, 'shot' if we can get the timing right. I'm not sure if this might be a ridiculous idea but I'll put it by them tomorrow and see what they say.

freelancegirl · 11/04/2011 15:27

Wiggle, Broken and AandR, just thought I would let you know I called my docs earlier and the referrals for both Dr Shehata and St Mary's went off on the 5th April. Hopefully that means that the ball is rolling to get some testing done. Will call them both in a couple of days to check they have received my referrals and also see what the waiting list is like.

Congrats on school things YRMOFB and hello Jollster - sorry for what you are going through. Sounds v frustrating. I am new to this thread so not well informed on everyone's situation.

randomimposter · 11/04/2011 15:16

great news YRMOTB - phew what a relief Grin.

Thanks all for your kind wishes. Wasn't massively surprised to see CD1, it's becoming a bit of an expectation tbh. Having got pg very easily four fucking times it seems number 5 is proving a bit elusive. Which usually wouldn't be the end of the world but at 43 my time is clearly running out. Even I get pg, I've got to make it stick and then go through all the worry about anomalies etc.

I've had (virtually) all the tests and nowt is wrong. I know some of you are on the testing/trying new things out road, and I hope you find some resolutions and possible solutions.

Can't think about putting an end date on this yet. But will have to at some point. It's too debilitating and disruptive to continue hankering after what I might never get.

Anyway - hope BBB continues to make shit coffee and do daft things... Grin.

Wave to all. Lovely weather on the coast today.

Youremindmeofthebabe · 11/04/2011 15:04

GrinGrin

Hope everyone's well and happy!

I'm still optimistic on your behalf bb

freelancegirl · 11/04/2011 10:32

Morning everyone. Hope there are some bright feelings today.

Wiggle and Broken glad you are getting treated. I think what I would like to know - and this might help others too - is:

If we started to ttc and got pg without being treated for high thyroid antibodies and then got treatment a few weeks into the pg, would this potentially damage the baby?

See I don't know whether to try as soon as I get my first af after mc (wish it would bloody hurry up!) at the risk of this might a) result in another mc whilst I wait for referral or b) I manage to hold onto the baby whilst I wait for referral BUT those nasty little antibodies are already digging in there and damaging the development in some awful way.

brokenbarrenbrook · 11/04/2011 07:19

Morning all, hope you all had a lovely weekend in the sunshine, cant believe how beautiful and warm it was for the beginning of April!

First things first, jolls bollox to another cycle, I had my hopes up for you. Arsicles x

freelance I'm currently under the care of Raj Rai at St Mary's after my referral there at the end of last year so let me know if there is anything you want to know and I'll do my best to help. I've also booked a private appointment with Mr Shehata but am now thinking I might just ask for a referral from my GP. Currently pondering that one. The private costs are expensive to say the least.

wiggle not tested and still not planning on it. Between 2-5 days until she's due and all signs are pointing towards her arriving. Still been feeling pukey, shattered, soreish boobs, sore lower back, peeing lots but this has all happened before which is why I remain pessimistic! I think my body reacts to the change in hormones before AF.

A&R sounds like you have a super busy week ahead! Hope you get some positive news with the test results.

Hello to everyone else; freezing, izzy, battery, Chloe, mummya, zam, YRMOTB & mouse x

getawiggleon · 10/04/2011 23:55

freelance Those articles are fab, thank you so much for sharing those Smile, I'm feeling more positive already and feel like I can at least approach the docs armed with some questions etc now.

I'm with ARGC in London and they're v hot on the whole immunes thing. They mentioned humira/intralipids for borderline cytokines and I think they mentioned prednisone for slightly elevated NKs but they didn't really say much about ata other than that they would treat for thyroid when I started stims. (they assumed I would be having some form of stims which annoyed me at first but then they are a fertility clinic, so of course that is what they offer, what was I expecting?!) I'll grill them this week when I go in for day 3 tests and also get Dr V's opinion on Fri! It'll be interesting to see how they compare.

Struggling to write in coherent sentences now so will hit the sack and check in again tomorrow! Thanks again for all the info. My sil is a paedeatrician but she did a stint in obs and gynae and has been teasing me today saying I know more about the female reproductive system than she does!

freelancegirl · 10/04/2011 23:02

This is a good article referencing a study too, the first part is ivf based but towards the end if has references to recurrent mcs and dosages that significantly improved outcome. Basically, it looks like we need to find someone who will prescribe us this:

www.bellaonline.com/articles/art21171.asp

freelancegirl · 10/04/2011 22:41

Hi Wiggle and AandR. Yes there is something kind of pleasing about the sound of old doc Vanderpump Grin Wiggle. I think Dr Prevelic was really surprised when I marched in there saying I had read about her in an article and really wanted to see her. Can't wait until you have had your appt. Do let us know what happened. Again my obsessive research this week leads me to believe for high thyroid antibodies they should put is on prednisolone and maybe other things. That's what they say here:

www.miscarriageclinic.co.uk/causes.html

Have you started taking anything on your own accord? Am hoping the selenium and vit d will help.

Yes we DO seem to have a 50% more chance of mc unfortunately but hopefully with treatment that can be addressed. I am terrified now of what to do - I was hoping to ttc again as soon as I get af but now I am worried it will just happen again. But I am 37 soon and I don't want to waste time.

I haven't yet seen anyone for further tests yet AandR but have asked for referrals for St Mary's in London and Dr Shehata at Epsom (see the Miscarriage Clinic link above).

getawiggleon · 10/04/2011 22:32

AandR St Mary's is in Paddington afaik. I know what you mean about being a statistic. I already feel like the 1 in 4 that has a mc and every time I read something new I think "oh, so I'm the 1 out of 50 that has such and such etc'

getawiggleon · 10/04/2011 22:29

Hi all, hope everyone's had a lovely weekend in the sun, topping up on the vit D! We've been down to Sussex for a pub lunch and then taken DD to a farm. Can't believe how hot it's been, we're all glowing slightly this eve and I've managed to acquire a nice farmer's tan (ie from the elbow down!)

YRMOTB Hope you get your first choice tomorrow. From memory you live close to where I grew up (Baildon)

battery Hope the swi went well. You deserve a bfp with all the air miles you are collecting.

Freelance Thanks again for the link, I've struggled to find any decent info on the net but that article was v helpful. I'm starting to get a bit depressed about the ata now though, 50% more likely to miscarry?! Sad. My levels aren't even slightly raised, they're off the scale! I have an appt with Dr Vanderpump on Fri aft (Dr Prelevic is away for two weeks and I didn't want to postpone, plus her name doesn't quite roll off the tongue in quite the same way!)

Mad wave to diffders Izzy Velvet and Mummy Hello lovelies Smile

aandr How are you feeling? When will you have the op? Is there much of a recovery time?

bbb Any news? Are you still holding off the pee sticks?

Jolls Sorry she got you. I'll be joining you at the bottom of the list tomorrow, all the signs are there, crampy etc and temp took a huge nosedive this morning. No 2011/xmas babe after all then Sad

Looks like this week/month will be full of appts now. I'm going to get the clinic to do a monitoring cycle starting this week so I'll be able to see wtf thyroid is doing (if there is anything left of it) and also if gagging on taking those vile wheatgrass shots every morning has done anything to improve FSH levels. Strangely excited about it all (esp mid cycle scan etc), it will be interesting to see what the ovaries actually get up to Planning a holiday for May so won't go ahead with any treatment then but then I think we'll make decisions on whether we want any 'assistance' to try and speed up the ttc process. I'm totally ambivalent about this at the moment though as I don't want to spend loads of ££ getting pg if the real issue is hanging on to it. Decisions, decisions?.

Waves to anyone lurking this eve Mouse Lady Loola Zam

AandRMum · 10/04/2011 21:59

What amazing weather! Vit D should certainly not come up deficient!!

Freelance I will ask her what she is on. I am having a complete wibble about the surgery now. A friend, who is very into naturopathy was very distressed at the idea of me having it out - I will do all the blood tests, see her lady, speak with the specialist and then try and make up my mind. It is all very worrying freelance but at some point hopefully we will be on the right side of the statistics!! You mentioned St Mary's - is that the one in Middlesex? Is there a particular doctor you would recommend there?

Good luck YRMOB - ours came out in the afternoon. Glad it was a good visit. I seem to be surrounded by pg woman!

My SIL has just announced she is pregnant (only 6 weeks and she is 40 years old) - sad thing is all I can think about are the stats and how risky it is for her to announce it so early ...

Huge week ahead - we hopefully will find out about the house finance, get blood results, and find some new work ... lots of hope involved in all of these!

freelancegirl · 10/04/2011 21:27

Hi AandR and everyone else.

AandR yes you can function without a thyroid as they will give you thyroxine. It was probably me who asked about thyroid antibodies. Would love to know what drugs your friend has been given. I think there are a few things that can help but have been reading up on it and it seems that raised antibodies can mean you are 50% more likely to have a mc, which is rather worrying (I have Hashi's too).

Am also reading lots about the wonders of Vit D - definitely one to make use of. All this sunshine is lovely too.

Youremindmeofthebabe · 10/04/2011 20:15

I'm not sure izz. Am hoping straight away. Eeeek.
Saw the baby which was lovely, I cried a little on the way there, but was good when we got there, no tears or sadness. Im very happy for them. I just want one for me though! Hope you're all well.

IzzyWizzyletsgetbusy · 10/04/2011 19:07

Oh and good luck re the school places tomorrow yrmotb - let's hope first-choice school places come in threes! What time will you find out?

IzzyWizzyletsgetbusy · 10/04/2011 13:23

Good luck with meeting the new baby yrmotb - hope it isn't too emotional. Is it a boy or girl?

I completely agree with the not temping - it was so much nicer without it, I don't think I would have gone back to it either. How's the pub hunt going?

aandr that sounds like progress, are you ok about the op? Did the surgeon mention whether it would have an effect on ttc/mc?

I have no idea re vit e or d I'm afraid - was always a b6 girl myself!!

jolls sorry she got you Sad

Youremindmeofthebabe · 10/04/2011 11:27

High dosages for extended periods, I think. Low dose ok. I'll find some links later. I've only swapped it for EPO.

Btw, jolls sorry for cd1Sad

I imagine you're all off having fun in the sun. I'm off to visit the new baby this pm. Enjoy your Sunday all.

MummyAbroad · 09/04/2011 14:14

babe wow thats really interesting about vitamin E. It was the only vit I took that was doctor prescribed. I took 1000mg for 6 weeks after my operation to help promote tissue growth and reduce scarring. I stopped after the 6 weeks when we started TTC though.
