Robin I'm a bit of a scan addict so probably not the best person to advise but you can't beat the reassurance they give. I agree with owly that the later you leave it the better but you've got to trade that off against pent up mentalling which isn't ideal either so I reckon 7 weeks onwards is good, just in case you ov'ed/implanted later than you thought.

nickstermum · 18/02/2011 14:01

robin where oooop north are you?

PinkFondantFancy · 18/02/2011 13:59

wombie is there a long waiting list for the Fetal Medicine Centre? You're the second person that's recommended them and I was thinking of using them for nuchal test as they are supposed to be really good for that plus hertfordshire NHS doesn't give a toss.....

owly glad you're still around to dish out remedial fishing-not sure about the nostrils though-will definitely focus my mind to not mental if that's what coming to me!

I'm supposed to be on a half day today-just broke out of the office :(

AandRMum · 18/02/2011 13:46

Do you think Brian does massages? He seems in touch with his feminine side Have a stinker of a tension headache!

mrsrobinredbreast · 18/02/2011 13:39

Wombat, now that really is a rubbish GP for not refering you after bleeding.

Am glad it's not just me who has fluctuating symptoms. But I need something cast iron to hold on to!

I'm ooop north but I have found a couple of local places which do private scans so will try them out. I think it will be worth it for piece of mind.

Knitter, sounds like they are looking after you. Should think so aswell given what you have been through to get here.

owlbooty · 18/02/2011 13:36

PS. As Womble rightly says, panicking about having no symptoms is pretty much an entry requirement for this thread as well as brown goo :) I blame the sodding books that tell you 'by X weeks you will be chucking your guts up, have huge boobs and be craving tarmac with peanut butter on it' etc. They lie. Everyone is completely different. Tis all a right load of bollocks imho.

owlbooty · 18/02/2011 13:34

Robin Mine were private - one because my EPU won't take early scan referrals unless there is full-on bleeding and the second because the Owlet was buggering about during my proper NHS scan and I was too scared to wait til 16 weeks for blood test.

So I am now £300 down and will be taking it out of his bloody pocket money in due course Grin HOWEVER - if you can bear to hold out until 9 weeks it will be worth it as you will see waving, kicking, fingers, toes, the whole shebang and it is awesome, plus by then you are heading out of the danger zone which was my reasoning really. :)

Orange I believe what you need to calm you down is a kipper up each nostril (this is a new variation on being hit with the traditional haddock). Come over here and I will insert them for you Grin

Wombat33 · 18/02/2011 13:31

MrsRobin I've had lots of panics due to no/fluctuating symptoms and (so far at least!) everything is fine!

Wombat33 · 18/02/2011 13:28

Mine have been private because my crap hopeless GP wouldn't refer me to EPU (which doesn't take self-referrals) despite having two weeks of [brown] bleeding!! Still, I'd spend my last penny on them for the reassurance. I can highly recommend the Fetal Medicine Cente in London if you're local and the profits all go into research in fetal medicine, so it's almost like a charitable donation really Hmm Grin

KnitterNotTwitter · 18/02/2011 13:00

robin I get a mandatory extra scan at 5-6 weeks because of my previous ectopic pregnancy; plus because I then had a MMC at 12 weeks which had started struggling at 8 weeks they have said I can have extra scans for reassurance between the 6 week one and the 12 week dating scan. St George's in Tooting, London is my hospital and seem to have a very relaxed attitued to stress-bunnies who need the scan for reassurance...

nickstermum · 18/02/2011 12:52

orange what reason have you got to think you arent pg anymore? When was your last scan?

Think about the last positive scan..... and look at your symptoms hon xxx The mind can play evil tricks with you

nickstermum · 18/02/2011 12:51

robin many of the scans i think have been down to bleeds, then through NHS EPU. (mine were) but some on here are rich paying for private too :)

mrsrobinredbreast · 18/02/2011 12:41

Afternoon all,

Have defo got that Friday feeling. I will get to know names soon, I promise then you can all test me but for now hello all .

No real symptoms today either, quite scared by this.

Newbie question. Your early scans that lots of you seem to be having, are they NHS or private? I am wondering whether to book a private one if I can hold out for another 3 weeks and get to 9 weeks.

OrangeGloss · 18/02/2011 12:38

OMFG to AandR and Velvet !! Grin now park yourselves on those beanbags Grin

I think I posted after the thread had moved :( I'm having a day of paranoia that I'm not pg, something's happened. I have no reason why:

KnitterNotTwitter · 18/02/2011 11:37

My symptoms have upgraded to include heavy womb - excited :)

Am sure that by this stage with the MMC I was in my maternity jeans. With DS I'm sure I was just into 2nd trimester before I started buying maternity stuff.

Went out with NCT girls that I met when pregnant with DS last night - manage to not tell them about this pg. Had half small glass of white wine and then said I wasn't having any more as I'm doing Slimming World.

PinkFondantFancy · 18/02/2011 10:41

pv you got any sick bags? I got some off eBay-not used any yet but they are like a little comfort blanket in my handbag. Doesn't help with number 2 worries tho.....

digitalgirl · 18/02/2011 10:41

Congratulations to velvet and A&R!

And good luck to those with scans today. My next one is a week today, which feels like an age away which means I don't have to worry about it for a while.

Boobs vaguely tingly again and feeling heavy down there so am mildly zen today. Smile

PinkFondantFancy · 18/02/2011 10:37
