Velvet the 5+4 scan was definitely a good thing... I've had an ectopic before so it was also mandatory! My MMC had at 8 weeks (detected at 13) so hence the next scan will be self-referral to my EPU at 9 weeks. That's the one that scares me more to be honest.

With the MMC I had a scan at 5 weeks but they said I could go back at 7 weeks to actually see the baby as at 5 weeks we could only see the sac. So I went back at 7 weeks and there was the tiny baby with a clear heartbeat and everything... Only for it to die about a week later :(

In my mind it probably died because the placenta didn't form properly and I suspect that might be because we got pregnant again so quickly after the ectopic. My ectopic was very dramatic - ruptured tube, blue lights to hospital, emergency surgery etc... I lost about a litre and a half of blood.... We were lucky to get pregnant again the first month we tried after the ectopic only to have the crush of the MMC.

As I understand it the two 'magic' moments are at around 6 weeks when the heart must start beating, and at around 8 weeks when the placenta must start working. So if you can wait until after that point you'll cover both eventualities...

I understand the personal intricacies of planning the holiday though...

Velvetcu · 01/03/2011 21:02

knitter did your scan make you feel any better? Next Friday just seems achievably close to me. And I'm thinking if it has gone wrong again I want to be able to get things sorted so I can still go away. It's awful to be feeling like this

KnitterNotTwitter · 01/03/2011 20:55

Velvet If you can hold on to 8 weeks thats when I'd go personally. Having had one at 5+4 I'm telling myself i can hold on til 9 weeks....

tonythetyger · 01/03/2011 20:53

waves hello to all. I may be off for about a week or so due to moving house and therefore loss of broadband. I'm sure by that point a new and exciting thread will have started and I'll have missed loads (unless I sneak a peek from work).

Velvetcu · 01/03/2011 20:36

Helloooo hairy glad you are feeling a bit brighter.

Soo I'm having a bit of a wibble mainly I think coz I feel like shite! I got kind of flu type aches in my hips and back - is this normal or an ominous sign? Also my goo was more beige than I would like today :(

Also, tried to talk to DH about when to go for a scan and he was most unhelpful! I don't know whether to go next Friday at (fx) 7 weeks or leave it til the week after since 8 weeks seems to be a magic number. I also want one at 10+5 ish just to check things are ok before we fly to japan. The first one will defo be private coz I'm not booking in til I've seen a heartbeat but hopefully can get the second one nhs. Please help :(

DoubleDiffedDachs · 01/03/2011 19:50

pink am with you on train rage. This morning the guy opposite me kept treading on my feet and then peering down at them as if they were in his way, although he had already got more than half the foot space, and then he tried to shove my feet apart to give his great big hooves more room! I felt very grr...

hairylights · 01/03/2011 19:43
PinkFondantFancy · 01/03/2011 19:38

Catch up later but wanted to share my rage-seats on the train facing each other are too close, so it's hard for your knees not to touch the opposite person's. However, most people make some kind of effort not to invade other peoples space, and it's ok if it's blokes opposite each other cos they sit with their legs open and they sort of interlock. The guy that just sat opposite me however sat how he wanted to sit which involved him attempting to force my legs apart with his knee!!! I feel totally violated! Wish I wasn't just a wimp, was dying to ask him what the eff he thought he was doing!!!!

owlbooty · 01/03/2011 18:38

Always lovely to see you, missus, v.glad the fog is lifting :)

hairylights · 01/03/2011 18:19

Wave to everyone, hope you are all well, have had a good read about you all.

I'm coming out of the fog now, just wanted to pop by and say 'hi' to my old muckers.

Loving the new name Dachs am so excited for you with twinnies!!!!

Wombat33 · 01/03/2011 17:17

Thanks Mummya - I'll keep that in mind!! I think because there are so many unknowns for me I'm anxious about everything. Apparently the bloods can come back high due to other genetic anomolies that aren't testable by amnio so in my case and amnio for downs/other trisomies wouldn't put an end to my worrying (ha - will anything ever!! Grin ) Still, on the scan yesterday we could see hands and feet again so I'm hoping with all my heart that this pg might just be "normal" Smile

Good luck for keeping busy/sane your end. Are you going to get in for an early scan at some point (obv it is a little bit too early yet...)?

MummyAbroad · 01/03/2011 16:59

Thanks for the recipe MamapGrinGrin I'm ok, thanks for asking. Anxiety seems to be coming and going at the moment depending on how busy I am/how much distraction I can find.

wombat everything crossed for you. Just want to say that with DS my first scan was at 15 weeks (those were the days!) so I missed the nuchal test and my "risk" number was just on bloods only. It came back very high, I got scared witless, had amniocentis and he was just fine. I know you have got a few extra worries on your plate too, but please remember blood results are quite inaccurate, so dont wibble too much if the come back high, just means further tests required, not that something is definitely wrong. xxxx

Wombat33 · 01/03/2011 16:27

Dachs you are a girl after my own heart Smile I think you've pipped me on the pg tests but I've also had 5 scans so far (with another 3 or 4 already booked in!). Next one is a whole three weeks away though - about the longest I've gone so far without one - so who knows how I'm going to last the wait Wink

Day 1 post nuchal bloods and no call from the hospital so far today. I'm hoping that if I get to Friday without a call that means I'm going to get a letter saying I'm low risk [wibble].

DoubleDiffedDachs · 01/03/2011 15:56

congrats on house mamap

I only used about... umm... 50? Actually must have been less than that. Erm... Probably somewhere between 30 - 40

My new addiction is scans... Unfortunately I don't have the time or money to clock up quite as many as pee sticks. 5 so far... But partly that was because of the bleeding I've had so far rather than me being obsessive about scans. pink has had a lot too, I think?

IreneHeron · 01/03/2011 15:45

Mama, I hear you re: new house, baby, business. That's what I'm doing. Alright so we moved in October but we're still setting up a business/businesses in a new area the other end of the country and hopefully having another baby.

Good recipe by the way, might be making that.

IreneHeron · 01/03/2011 15:42

Knitter - I'm a garden designer and gardener, so stands to reason I'd be interested in sheds. Grin.

By the way, I'm lower on the list than you, 2 cheapy internet dip in your wee ones and one POAS First Response.

mamapower · 01/03/2011 15:40

Thanks all for the good wishes for the house purchase, some might say I am pushing my luck with a new house, new business and a new baby but actually there is so much going on I don't have time to get stressed about one single thing!

Mummy I reckon Dachs might win a pee stick competition... how many was it again dachs??? Grin

Grin at knitters Dad, that's a great story

hotnspicy hope you're feeling better

teacake we will all be virtually holding your hand and hoping for the best on Friday (((hugs)))

digi I had something similar and it def wasn't a cramp, I ran it passed the doc last week and she said those odd pains are quite normal as the uterus adapts Smile

wombat good luck with the house hunt... I must confess that I did look at the third bedroom with a ''this will be my beans nursery'' head on!!

nix my dh does that every now and then... ''it's bad for baby'' my reply, ''it'll be bad for you if you don't back off'' Grin

AR 12 week scan tbc but approx 3 weeks - OMG! PMSL at your image of my buttons flying open... it's not that far removed from reality! eeek! How are you getting on?

And for those who wanted it... virgin Mojito :

crushed ice
1 lime quartered squeeze out juice and throw in quarters
Plenty of mint leaves (I always crush them to release the flavour and then a few nice leaves on top to make it look pretty)
sugar Syrup (boil up brown sugar, honey and water and then let cool and keep refrigerated)
top up with soda water
Shake up and serve in a large glass!

YUM YUM - happy cocktail hour Grin Grin

I wonder what order we would be in if we put ourselves in order of how many pee sticks we weed on ?GrinGrinGrin

IreneHeron · 01/03/2011 14:19

Funny due date perhaps because of short cycle length, 26 days? 1st day of last MP 17th Jan.

IreneHeron · 01/03/2011 14:17

A&R yes, I think I miscounted. I'm 5+1 and EDD of around 22nd according to Mumsnet tool. Although the midwife when I rang calculated 26th Oct. I don't care really, I'm just taking it day to day.

Knitter Grin at your story.
