The resurrection of the 6th form common room for those inbetweeners who are TTC/PG after mc and are too long in the tooth to fit anywhere else

The resurrection of the 6th form common room, a place to put your feet up, wallow in self pity (me) or rejoice (and tremble in fright) at new growing beans and baybees after mc. No lists. No stats. No babydust. No feeling bad if you can't keep up.

Go.

Velvetcu · 22/02/2011 17:25

lol mummya what time will you be testing in the morning?

mummyabroad · 22/02/2011 17:22

ok so it turns out I have a will of jelly...

just tested again on a different brand but still internet cheapie. Virginally white BFN at first but an hour later it has a little shadow of a line just like the first one. Hope returns!!Smile

mummyabroad · 22/02/2011 17:04

battery I was advised by the hospital to self medicate for the HSG and was glad I did. I took a dose of declofenac the night before, and another dose + paracetomol an hour before the procedure. Lots of American ladies ask for valium too - I wish I had, I hate these kinds of procedures now and find it all so stressful. Holiday booking is a great idea for CD1.Smile I guess I could save my pennies up for treats like a facial or massage and book it for CD1 days.

Izz Very true about reflecting - I was happily pregnant this time last year.Sad Doing the testing sounds like a very financial sound option if you are able to save the money in a month. Why not put that money in a separate account so its there if you want to go ahead? (you could always splurge it on CD1 if you decide not to do the tests!)

I can understand how much more important this is to you than your DH. I am in the same boat, I am trying to make mine understand that after investing, time, money, and emotions into this "project" (getting pregnant) for a whole year its not so easy to just drop it and give up. I think he really got I how I feel when I asked him if he would be able to give up on having his dream career job after a year of doing his Masters at night school, working really hard at his current job etc. Personally I think getting tested is good idea because having information about what is going on in your body makes you feel much more in control and there are some fairly quick and easy cures out there that are worth trying, as in "AliTheMinx"'s case. xxx

Velvetcu · 22/02/2011 17:03

mummya faint line sounds good even if it was after the time especially if the one before is still white. Suspenders are on lovely :)

Izz I hope you and DH work out what to do. Mine is annoying me again because he wont let me tell anyone about the bfp whereas I want to tell my mum coz I'm going mental and will need someone if it goes wrong again. If only there was a way of making them feel what we do, just for a couple of hours they would understand!

I can't believe it's Wednesday tomorrow! I've done the housework and washing today so I can mark books tomorrow Hmm

IzzyWizzyletsgetbusy · 22/02/2011 16:26

ooh mummya that sounds hopeful I really really hope this is it for you xx

I think birthdays are a bit like Christmas, they're another reminder that a year has passed and you can't help but think about what has and hasn't happened and reflect on where you are now and where you're heading. Which is great if you've had a good year, not so good if you haven't.

velvet the private consultation plus scan and blood tests would be £560 (it's an extra £125 for sperm test but given that we've conceived three times and nothings changed for dh, ie he hasn't been through pgs, births, mc and erpc, I don't think that's a problem). Basically if I kept working 4 days instead of 3 through March that would just about pay for it. So it's not out of reach financially, it's just that dh doesn't want to go down that route. I don't know what's best.

Ali welcome and congrats Smile

batteryhen · 22/02/2011 16:25

Hi MummyA - I am going to take 75mg of diclofenac and co-codamol. I didn't ask about pain control as I knew I had loads and will self medicate.!

My CD1 plan is to book or plan something nice for that month. I have booked some leave to see DP, and we are going to book a nice holiday in April. It is nice I think to have something to look forward to, when you are feeling a bit :(

mummyabroad · 22/02/2011 16:01

Thanks for all your lovely supportive messages and enouraging stories ladies. Its my birthday tommorrow (and Jolls'!) so I guess I was just having a big wibble, I usually get a bit down right before a birthday. I am trying to remind myself that nothing really bad has actually been PROVED to be true. So whats really happening is I am worrying about what COULD happen, which is a bit pointless really.

Also, strange thing happened this morning. I tested BFN, and then checked the stick again an hour later - exactly as you are not supposed to do Hmm - and there is a tiny feint line (you really have to squint). I know it doesnt mean anything if it doesnt come up within the time frame, but I fished yesterdays test out of the bin and it is (to use Joll's expression) virginally white.Smile So I am hopeful again. I am not going to test again until tommorrow, its quite nice having hope but not a definite answer and I dont want to kill it by seeing a BFN if I retest.

I am going to spend the afternoon making and eating chocolate cake with DS and then sit down and work out what my plan will be if AF does come. I need a CD1 plan like Izzy (that really struck a chord)

By the way all this ibuprofen info is new to me and really interesting. Battery bear it in mind when you go for your hyst - I took loads for my HSG and was TTC that month. Have they offered you pain med by the way?

AliTheMinx Hi, welcome to the thread. congratulations on your BFP, you must be really pleased. Smile Which specialist did you see? There are obviously very good!

AliTheMinx · 22/02/2011 13:29

BTW - at the mo, Boots have a 2 for 1 offer on First Response - I got 2 2-packs for £10 on Saturday!

AliTheMinx · 22/02/2011 13:13

Hey Lovely Ladies! Can I join in, please?

Just got my BFP on Saturday - now 5 weeks 2 days, so very early days. Over the moon, but equally anxious as hell, after a MC at 6 weeks last May, and one at 10 weeks 2 days in late November. Just heartbreaking.

I have PCOS and saw a specialist privately (as NHS were rubbish), and now on a drug called Metformin, which may help to balance hormones and sustain the pregnancy, so just hoping for a miracle. Trying to stay positive but it's so damn hard after such awful losses.... but hey - THERE IS ALWAYS HOPE.

Have been promised an early scan at 7-8 weeks, and just hoping and praying there'll be a heartbeat. Will keep you posted.

Lots of love and luck to you all, Ali xxxxxxxxxxxx

P.S. I am sure that 2 things helped me to conceive again so quickly - my Clearblue Fertility Monitor and also the Zestica Fertility Spray. Both highly recommended.

mamapower · 22/02/2011 13:11

Mummy that brought a tear to my eye... you sound so disheartened and the 'when will it ever end' feeling must just be compounding all the heartache and adding to your angst and stress. Try and stay strong. If I could pop round and hug you I would... a virtual one has been sent xxx

nickstermum · 22/02/2011 12:35

Rubbish news mummy, I'm so sorry xx
Bb is right though you could be the exception rather than the rule here and wouldn't it be wonderful if you had already conceived?! I do hope so xx

((hugs))

digitalgirl · 22/02/2011 11:48

Sorry haven't really read all the posts, but I did spot mummya's news from her specialist.

I just wanted to tell give you a slightly off-topic example of how even though specialists can be the best in their field there's still so much that they don't know about pregnancy and how it can be successful despite conditions not being exactly to their standard. My DH was asked to do a Semen Anaylsis as part of our rmc testing. The results came back right at the very bottom of each 'normal' range, but we were told that because my pregnancy rate was pretty high (BFP within 2-4 cycles each time) that we didn't need to worry about it. I mentioned the exact measurements to my acupuncturist who deals with lots of IVF patients and knows many of the top Harley St specialists...he said that if the UK's top urologist specialising in male fertility had seen DH's results (2% morphology, low motility, low volume) that he would have insisted that IVF with ICSI would be the only way I'd get pregnant. Not really the news I wanted to hear when we'd staretd TTC, yet I'm now on my fourth pregnancy within 16 months. So somehow, those few good swimmers have managed to find their way to egg each time.

It's great that you've done so much research into your condition. But you also need to have a bit of faith. You've gone from no periods, to having periods. That's brilliant. So now keep on with the suggested treatment, but do have it in mind that you've got a good chance to get pg and have a healthy baby at the end of it.

Not quite an AS success story anecdote, but I'm really rooting for you.

batteryhen · 22/02/2011 10:43

Quick post from work

izzy I know how you feel - next cycle I am not charting, not doing acuupuncure etc and just going to chill out. It is difficult that DP is abroard but I have jiggled some shifts and flights so we can be together for more than 2 days at a time over my OV!

Caribou - I know what you mean about my chart - I would have thought BFP too, but AF is still not here, no cramps etc so we will see, temp has droped but is still quite high for me.....

muumya hope you are doing ok lovely lady xx

Must dash xx

Velvetcu · 22/02/2011 10:32

mummya sorry the news isnt what you wanted. I too dont really know what to say but I am keeping my fx for you.

Izz sorry you are feeling down again. Doesnt the acu make you feel better anyway even if it's not helping with the ttc? Are the private tests expensive?

IzzyWizzyletsgetbusy · 22/02/2011 09:24

mummya I'm so sorry you didn't get the reassurance you need...I can only imagine how disheartening this must be for you. As bb said, do try to keep the positives in mind; it can happen. I'll be keeping my fx crossed for the biggest shiniest bfp for you this month so that you don't have to go through any more of this sh*t, and your chart is looking so hopeful, but if it doesn't happen this month then try to focus on the fact that you have a plan, and you are taking positive steps forward all the time. You don't deserve to be dealing with all this - I really really hope you have some good news soon. Big ((((hugs)))) xxx

personally I have been wallowing now for three days so about time I surfaced - I really need some better strategies for dealing with cd1 because tbh mine aren't working; it just feels like losing the baby all over again and it's getting harder and harder every month. I had a good talk with dh last night and he basically thinks we should get back to our former mindset of que sera sera, let nature take its course and if it happens, great, but if it doesn't, we're happy. And that was basically where I'd got to before I got pg last time, we had really given up on dc3 and I was kind of ok about it. Dh still feels the same, but for me, having been pg and carried dc3 for all those weeks and losing him has changed that, and - while I would love to recapture my laissez faire attitude, I just can't. Does that make sense?

Anyway my acupuncturist is away for most of this month, which I think coincides with a real need to step back from the technicalities of it all, so I'm doing no acu this cycle, no monitor, no temping. F*ck it, none of it's working anyway! I'm still going to try and do SMEP but only because I think it's quite comprehensive, but tbh it feels such a relief to get away from all the other trappings.

The other thing I'm considering for next cycle is getting some basic tests done privately. I rang the clinic yesterday and got the prices, buy dh isn't keen atm. I know we already have dcs so shouldn't in theory have major issues, but who knows what's changed with age, or dd's difficult birth, or the mc or the erpc? I just think it would be great to have a gadget-free month this cycle but know I had a plan ready for the next iykwim?

Anyway I've waffled on long enough - this is what happens when I take a day or two off!! I've been stalking all your charts (except loola's - I lost that one!) and it's looking good. Fx for some more bfps xx

Youremindmeofthebabe · 22/02/2011 08:58

loola I guess that at least 2 wekks before the operation would let you know that, but I'd probably stop 3 weeks before the Op to be sure?

Youremindmeofthebabe · 22/02/2011 08:56

Oh mummyaSad So sorry to hear this. It's like a never-ending cycle of things to worry about for you isn't it. I see that you passed 2 of the 3 tests though. That's a positive isn't it? I don't really know what to say, but you know we're here to listen if you need us.

mouse It would seem that Ibuprofen can cause cycles to become anovulatory and/or reduce the chance of implantation when tested on rats and rabbits at high prolonged use. It is reversible by stopping taking them, and occasional use doesn't seem to be problematic. Ibuprofen can cause birth defects anyway, so is one to be avoided in the first trimester, so perhaps better to stick to paracetemol when TTC. Having said that I've taken Ibuprofen this cycle.Confused

loola2shus · 22/02/2011 08:55

Whats the crack with the big white gap at top of thread??

Morning all!

(( mummya )) So sorry about your bad news, I echo what BB says but I wouldn't have said it so eloquently!!

Battery did AF turn up? Still have my fx for you!

IZZ Where are you lovely?

mouse have you sorted your hols yet? I'm Envy I would love a holiday but can't see it happening this year Sad

Well my instinct was right, I hadn't ovulated- Got results of Progesterone which was taken on cd23 and it was only 1,9 Shock Never mind, its not unknown for me (as I have PCOS) so hopefully I will Ov late this cycle as opposed to not at all!

The only thing is Hospital told me I have to be certain that I am not pg or they can't do op and that's beginning of April- so I'm not sure when to stop!

notsobarrenmorebrokenbrook · 22/02/2011 07:17

mummy I'm so sorry you've had more shitty news and I understand you feeling completely disheartened by it all, it's just one piece of doom and gloom after another, BUT, you HAVE to try and stay positive, focus on the fact that women DO get pregnant with a thin lining and DO go on to have successful pregnancies despite everything tipped in favour of it not being successful. You are a strong, determined woman and I have no doubt that it will happen for you. Please try and focus on the small glimmers of hope and not so much on the crap that you keep getting told (famous last words from the worlds worst pessimist). I know the specialist in the US is an expert but he COULD be wrong??!

I wish there was something I could do or say to help but there's nothing apart from being 'here' for you when you need a place to wallow (but wallowing isn't allowed for too long you hear!)

Hugs xxx

getawiggle forgot to say, if I do get pregnant and I have scar tissue I am at very great risk or early or late stage miscarriage, placenta acreta, increta, percreta or previa, placental aburption and IUGR. aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrggggggghhhh so sick of this crap news.

Promise to come back with a more positive mental attitude tomorrow. Thanks for the rant and wallow space. xxxxx

Thanks ladies

battery I would like to know how you get on with your hyst thanks.

caribou getawiggle mouse

The doctor in London (AS specialist with 8 years experience) didnt ask me to do any checks in order to know when to TTC. He just said I was good to go when I finished the hormone treatment, BUT that if I didnt get pregnant within 3 months to go back for more investigations (we are in month 2) The doc in the USA is the worlds best AS doctor ever who has successfully treated thousands of women. His criteria for when to TTC is based on passing three tests. I have passed two, clear HSG and mid cycle scan showing trilaminar pattern but failed the third, I should have a 7mm lining at least. Mine is 5.5mm which is very thin (normal people have over 11mm) I am also having very light periods, getting lighter each month.

He said:
I would recommend a diagnostic hysteroscopy on the outside chance that the HSG missed something OR that there is some damage to the basal layer of the endometrium. In order to detect the latter the hysteroscopy should be performed either at midcycle or after you have ingested 4 mg of oral micronized estradiol beginning on cycle day # 2 for approximately 2 weeks. The pattern of you endometrium is normal; however, it is thin despite having a large preovulatory follicle. That fact plus the lighter menses cause me to recommend that you have a diagnostic hysteroscopy.

I have already had a reply to my post on the AS message board from a woman who conceived her little boy with 5mm lining and a one day period, so I would love to believe I am still in with a chance, however Dr March is such an authority on this, I just cant imagine that his hunch would be wrong. I am still holding out a bit of hope that I will get a BFP this month but if I dont - after SWIing at absolutley the best times ever - its going to be really hard to ignore Dr March's advice. F knows how I will afford any more surgery if that becomes necessary though Sad

oh, when will all this shit end?

getawiggleon · 21/02/2011 23:05

Another big squeeze here Mummy Your lining is almost as thick as he would like it to be though - is it the shortfall that makes him think this? I thought you'd been given the green light?

If this cycle results in a bfp and a bean implants would that mean that everything is working ok? You've had such a rough time of all this, I'm so so sorry xx (( ))

mamapower · 21/02/2011 22:34

Big squeeze mummy
