Mind if I join in?

I'm 31 and AF has just arrived after our 3rd shot at IUI with donor sperm. Have one more shot left and then we either need to bow out gracefully or reconsider selling our souls to finance IVF.

DH was diagnosed with azoospermia (no swimmers at all ever) way back in 2004 and at the time we dismissed donor sperm and went on to adopt our DD. We were planning to adopt again but realised our views on using donor sperm had changed so have been trying IUI.

Feeling really low that next month could be last chance saloon and trying to be good and avoid coffee and dairy milk while feeling like this is not helping - wish I hadn't read any Zita West!

Hairy - although 29th March must seem ages away its good you've got an app't - despite having 4 MC's my GP said because of budget cuts it wasnt' guaranteed that I'd see anyone. And lovely you've got such a great family - I'm like Ellan find it much easier to talk to friends, my Mum is v pragmatic and of the 'You'll be fine' school of thought which unfortunately I've proved her wrong on. Not that it'll make you feel better but 1 friend of mine is 42 was single, went to freeze her eggs, was told basically they were crap & not too bother -then got a DP - fell PG straight away & is due any day. Another friend is 43, had 4 MC's and just had her baby. I know stories like that may not make you feel better but they've given me hope!
(spikey doodle reared her head on the 'Christmas' thread - had to read it - she's hilarious - though I think she might be a he)

hairylights · 19/02/2011 20:29

Sleazy It is so hard not to be negative about things.

I am feeling the same - not sure whether to just bloody give up. I'm forty two and I don't have any kids, though, so it's a bit 'do or die' for me at the moment.

Am lucky to be so blessed with my family - and particularly my sister.

Hardandsleazy · 19/02/2011 20:25

That's good your family ESP your sis are so understanding. Mine are so so- dad great, mum ok (but she is quite self obsessed) and sis not much good(but we aren't close- whole other topic there). I found it really weird having to br careful when waiting for tests but looking back am quite glad that had few months off from the whole 2ww saga as not sure could have dealt with it on top of everything.

I am trying really hard to be positive but also trying to face facts as I am really not sure will ever get pregnant again let alone successfully. Although nothing shown up on re fertility on my tests dh did some tests which indicated issues on sperm count ( consultant dismissed these as said they can vary and dh history - I have had 5 pregnancies and hus ex 3 which a,together resulted in 3 kids would seem to indicate any issues were not material). The trouble is once something like that is out there (like the inconclusive tests for me on anti phospholipids) it's really hard not to be negative about them.

hairylights · 19/02/2011 20:05

Yes ellan I am really lucky with my family we are all really close. My sister is my best friend and she had ivf as she didn't get pregnant in three years trying and she is like a guardian angel for me. She really knows how it feels and is a great support. My sil is also lovely and my mum is fab too .

ellangirl · 19/02/2011 19:49

Hi hairy, the end of march must seem like a lifetime away. You give those doctors what for and make them see how hard it is for you.
Do all your family know what you've been going through? Do you find it helps? I find I can talk to my friends but not family.

hairylights · 19/02/2011 18:04

Hello all.

I have almost stopped bleeding (medically managed MC last Sunday) and am going to do a pregnancy test later to see if the hcg has gone.

Is weird as hell thinking about contraception while I wait for tests Confused. Keep feeling 'but I could be wasting a good egg'

Had a family get together last night - my nephew (8 weeks) meeting my neice (also my god-daughter - 2 and a half). Was lovely, and my sis and bro and their other halves are lovely and sweet and understanding, but it was still a bit of a challenge.

No-one made me feel left out, but I felt like 'the one without children' or 'the one who is having problems having children'. I suppose that's only natural.

Is hard.

I feel physically ill today - all dizzy and a bit sicky.

Got my appointment to see consultant about recurrent MC testing on 29th March - it can't come soon enough.

ellangirl · 18/02/2011 20:37

Well hello ladies. I just got a smiley face yesterday, so will go for blood test next week. Doc said to give her a call when the results are back and we'll go from there. Next step for me will be a referral to Gynae, so a bit of a wait. Going to try to persuade DH to go for SA again and see if he might have changed his mind!
Never tried Robitussin. Don't usually have a problem with lack of EWCM, although saying that, I haven't had much this month.
I take Evening primrose and siberian ginseng for the first half of the month, and pregnacare conception every day.

NinjaChipmunk · 18/02/2011 19:07

just had another thought, once i get my results on weds, what do i do then? I guess I just make another docs appointment to see where to go from there?

Also what do any of you lot know about robitussin? can it actually help increase ewcm?

time to re-evaluate supplements I think. I've had some time off them completely as I thought at least that way my blood test shows exactly whats going on and theres no false levels of anything (don't actually know what that anything might be mind you!)

Dp's sis is in labour as we speak, went in last night, was 5cm at 11am, 7cm about 3.30 so hopefully she's pushing about now! poor thing must be knackered.

bossyboop · 18/02/2011 16:15

changing it looks like we are doing our 2ww together Smile

Bexamundo, Ive read so much on here about people having their day 21 test at the wrong time thus having wrong results. Not holding much hope for mine but im glad to be getting the thyroid checked at the same time as the reason behind my referal to a gyn was due to spotting between periods though was only twice and various aches and twinges. Of course since my first appointment with gp my 'symptoms' have stopped. I think had I been charting earlier there may have been explanations for all this if there was a pattern to it such as around ovulation. Glad to get a full and thorough check up as been worried sick about cancer and allsorts.

However for the last couple of days ive actually felt happy rather than stressed, worried and just muddling through, which is far better than stressing out over what may be wrong with me, if anything at all. I just hope I can keep being happy as its a month till I see the gyn again with all my results.

Changing2011 · 18/02/2011 13:06

Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh starting to get spotty now, just know this is down to period on the way! Due on 2nd of March (AF) so usually get spotty a couple of weeks before then :(

Bexamundo · 18/02/2011 12:42

I'm on the day 21 tests usually check progestetone 3 times to check you have enough progesterone to maintain pregnancy if egg implants. A v low progesterone level can be a sign of anovulation. They check 3 times because most women will have an anovulatory cycle during the year. They look at the overall picture with three results. I had low results cos I had them too late, should really be 7 days after you ovulate rather than day 21, day 21 is based on idea of having 28 day cycle. I cocked up cos I went on day 30 expecting a 27 cycle (my average) and the last two months so i will go early this month. I think its easier now I'm charting cos I know more accurately when I've ovulated can just go 7 days after.

Hardandsleazy · 18/02/2011 11:31

I think day 21 is progesterone only - can't remember what exactly It indicates .

Bossy hope it does help- I rely on clear blue digital monitor.

Off for weekend to France which should be nice.

bossyboop · 18/02/2011 10:36

my Gyn is testing for prog, oestradiol and thyroid in my day 21 test. Im having it day 20 as 21 is a saturday but looking at my chart I ovulated day 11 so should probably have it done CD18 but never mind.

Starting to get the hang of charting now and using fertility friend. Its good to see how all the things compare, can see on my chart the day after I had ewcm my temp went up and has stayed up. I also had twinges on my right side that day too and cm was actually more yellowy which apparently indicates ovulation. So all the signs indicate I have ovulated and BD at the right times. Just waiting to see if I can get 18 high temps in a row to indicate success, but at least I can see something is working. Looking at my chart its going to be a 25 day cycle with af due 3rd march, watch this space to see if its right!

NinjaChipmunk · 18/02/2011 10:00

Morning. Just been for day 21 bloods. Was told they'd only requested progesterone test but i had thought the doc originally wanted to test for more things? Anyone got any experience?
Bex don't give up hope. A holiday and a bit of time off might do your dp some good. Plus getting pissed and relaxing may lead to shagging with or without intent!

Hardandsleazy · 18/02/2011 08:37

Bexamundo- I would agree that quality not quantity can work. Also is Age a factor - a couple of months may not be too bad if helps your dh feel better.

Hairy- when do you want to go as that makes a difference (even slightly out of season in sunshine resort can be dull)?

Day off today so will sort out the last round of blood tests .

Pooch28 · 17/02/2011 22:54

Aaahh the list is endless. I'm there already, cocktail in hand, sun setting, slightly burnt feeling on entire body from overdoing it that day, waves lapping....

hairylights · 17/02/2011 22:50

No idea wheee to go. It needs to involve sun and a beach.

Pooch28 · 17/02/2011 22:20

hairy where r u going - I'm going to be living vicariously through you as we're skint.

Pooch28 · 17/02/2011 22:19

Bexa I would suggest 'being devious' - keep track of your cycle, know exactly when you're going to OV - then don't have sex for a good week before that day - 'treat' him - if you know what I mean - in other ways a couple of days before DDay - then on day before or day of OV have SWI - it may mean you only have one go at it a month but at least there's still a chance of BFP but hopefully without him getting stressed about it - plus obviously not talking about the whole subject at all so he thinks you're not trying. Yes you're right having SWI more than once is good but TBH I've conceived by only having sex once on 3 occasions now... Good luck - sorry you're having a shit time.

Bexamundo · 17/02/2011 22:05

Ps hairy you def deserve a holiday! We're off to Fuerteventura in 2 weeks can't wait. since I'm not ttc and we're all inclusive I'm planning to get wasted!

Bexamundo · 17/02/2011 22:04

Bollocks to it all! Had long chat with Dh last night. He seems pretty depressed (off to the docs with him.tomorrow). Basically he is struggling.with lots of stuff including work and family stuff from his past. Us ttc and the lack of success has been the last straw and its all got too much. His libido is right down, I'm not sure but I think you have to have sex more than once a month to increase chance of conception yes? So I have had to put his needs above my desire for a baby. The plan is a vague 'few months' of not trying but I refused to go on the pill so I don't screw with my hormones and so I can chart for those months to understand my cycle. I am, essentially, gutted. Words of comfort please?

Hardandsleazy · 17/02/2011 17:15

Yes agree ninja re Holly- she would also say "it will
Happen for you one day babes" . Pooch that sounds tough but glad things bit better.

Hairy - holiday sounds a good idea. Apart from booze what does it need to involve?

NinjaChipmunk · 17/02/2011 16:51

ooh exciting, where do you want to go?

hairylights · 17/02/2011 15:39

Hello. And welcome Changing.

I'm having a better day today.
