TTC while breastfeeding - Part 2

TMI alert...

I STILL have fertile CM today (cd 22/23 wtf? Hope this cycle is longer than 30/31 days!) so sent dh a saucy text and managed some SWI whilst our toddler naps and the older 2 DCs are at school .

I'm about 5 years older than you but otherwise no history or anything either. no vigorous puking here either!

there are just too many days between now and Friday...

oh, and grumpy, my mum got pregnant when bf, my stepsister got pg twice while bf, and 3 friends have got pg bf. No twins for them!!! Not sure how accurate that 10% is.... Someone else told me the whole bf and twins thing is an old wives' tale.

jaggy, I was only doing 2 feeds a day. I'm 28. There is NO family history of twins either side. I'm white (increased twins in black populations) and so is DH. I am not on Clomid (for helping pop out eggs if ovulation a prob I think looopy) and have not had any fertility treatment so I would have said these twins were a miracle. Until someone said that about BF. But really, 2 feeds a day?!

Noooooooooooooooooo! It's lovely that other people have twins, but I REALLY only want one more baby. 10% chance of twins Thank heavens I don't eat yam and am under 35 .

dreamfeederi hadn't heard that, but having just googled, it would appear to be true, 1 in 89 births are twins, but you are 9 times more likely to have twins if conceive whilst breastfeeding...so 10.11% chance of twins if breastfeeding!!! and if what i've just read is true, 40% more likely if taking folic acid, and also more likely if BMI over 30, if aged 35+, and if eat dairy....

so that's 5 ticks for me so i reckon i am due some twins myself if only i can start to ovulate!!!

the only things that increase your chances that i don't tick the boxes for is being tall, eating yams and having twins in the family or having had twins myself already!

oh and it also mentions clomid, but not sure who gets to take that/why, presume you can't just ask for it if you want twins lol.

oh and please try not to worry about your twins, i know lots of people with perfectly healthy twins, and there was a woman who had twins who was on my CS ward in hospital. She had to have a CS due to their positions, and it was done at 35 weeks, both good weights, and they were let out after 2 days, whereas we were stuck in for 5 days!!!

Just try to take things as easy as you can, and nag DH for a cleaner, so you can concentrate on you, your bumps and your DD!

Yeah, so the rumour is twins is more common in Bf mothers??? who else had heard that (before a 12 weeks scan which showed twins?!)???

I am SO excited and more delighted every day the news has longer to sink in, but also worried in case anything goes wrong with either baby.

Cut DD down to one feed a day as I'm knackered, and really don't want to end up feeding 3 so hoping for her to have forgotten all about bf herself by the time they both arrive hopefully both healthy

looopy, I turned to walking again when I stopped for the daytime naps, though i did try to put her down and gradually it happened and now at 13 months she goes down with no problem for a nap. DD didn't make a fuss about dropping her bed time feed last week or two either, so maybe I'm just lucky? She never used to fall asleep feeding at night anymore though before I stopped- we do a story afterwards and I started the same for nap time and she gradually got it.

So I found out yesterday I'm pregnant with twins!!!!! Both bang on dates (12 weeks). That'll be 3 under 19 months then , or maybe 18, depending when the twins arrive...

I'm new here, going to have read back but this is a looooong thread!
We're TTC #2. DD1 is nearly 16months and feeds about 3 times a day. I want to do some reading up because I'm sure that the BF is affecting my cycle. I had my mirena out in June and seem to be having 21 day cycles since. And they are weird bleeds. AF came today so feeling a bit despondant really.

Time to get reading!

i would love to be TTC but DS now 11 months, still on 3 feeds a day, none at night, yet still no sign of Af's returning. Considering trying to drop the lunchtime feed to see if it makes any difference, also considering stopping BF'ing completely at 12 months, as much as we enjoy it, i am starting to think that's what it might take for them to return.

How do you go about dropping a daytime feed? DS has always been a bad daytime sleeper, so i feed him to sleep for his morning and his afternoon naps, and then again at bedtime (although if he is awake when he goes in his cot at night, invariably he will settle). It is rare he will settle in the daytime - although if he wakes in the middle of his naps, as of last week he has sometimes managed to get himself back to sleep!

So any tips on how to drop a feed and still have him go to sleep for his naps as i cannot cope with him if he doesn't have these sleeps - he really needs them! He will be going to nursery for a couple of afternoons a week, so it would be good to drop his 1.45pm feed, i could still do the morning and evening ones, and if AF's don't return then i could maybe drop either both or one of the others?

Just me then?

Grumpy - not actively TTC until Jan, just marking my spot, mointoring cycles and generally using others to convince me that TTC is possible while still bf like billio! (And being generally heartened that I am not the only madwoman person in the world to be bf a one year old pretty much on demend - every 2 hours or so overnight when I'm not at work - and having her sleep in our room still etc etc all the while planning another one . Actually, reading that back, I must be mad!)

It is a relief not having to worry about cutting out more feeds, I'm also looking forward to not having to remember to take my temperature as soon as I wake up!

(and isn't it great to not have to worry about having to do anythign about the bf?) Says me, the mean one who has night weaned and evening weaned and is stingily only giving one morning feed to poor DD -for her naughty biting habits--

Hi ladies, I know I came late to the thread and didn't post much but wanted to report my bfp here. Eeek, I am shitting myself despite ttc for the last 7 months.

errr, duh, sorry, posted before seeing this whole last page of posts about the contraception and all legally, still a chance though?!

I never used any contraception post-birth, and still took ages for my fertility to come back. I'm really wanting to stop bf now though, as the monkey keeps biting me. I just can't enjoy feeding her as she bites as she latches off, and never feeds for an amount of time i can predict. It's frequent though. And I always tell her no! and look cross. Not helping. I can't really see another option- it's been going on for weeks and I've been more and more miserable about feeding her. Dropped her bedtime feed 3 days ago, and it's such a relief. I'm sad to be saying that, my mum fed me til 15 months and I never thought I'd wean DD at 12... I do tolerate the morning biting still... ouch!
