TTC while breastfeeding - Part 2

silkenladder · 16/12/2010 19:22

This is the place to come to share the frustrations of ttc while still nursing.

Many of us are sleep-deprived, some of us don't even know if we're ovulating and none of us know whether taking agnus castus is a good idea or not. We all just want to do the best by the children we already have, but would really like to be pregnant again. Quickly.

Part 1 had plenty of graduates . Here's hoping Part 2 will be equally successful and supportive!

Hi silken must be a weight off your mind to be doing something about it, even if that's the wait and see option. It must also be a relief that it can take 2 yrs for things to normalise - although thats not ideal, at least it may normalise on its own.

This month I tried drinking some grapefruit juice! I also cut out a feed, so now we are just on morning and evening feeds (DD is 25 months now!) This month ovulation was earlier - and for the first time in a few months I'm pretty confident I know I did ovulate and when - plus I had loads of EWCM. 3DPO now, we timed SWI pretty well, so I feel that we couldn't have done anymore this month and just waiting to see what happens.

silkenladder · 02/05/2011 14:24

Sorry, Isla, I've been meaning to reply for ages and always been interrupted.

I went to the new dr, told her about my short cycles. The minute I mentioned depo her face cleared and said it can take up to 2 years for things to normalize. She didn't examine me or do any tests, but I have to go back in June for my regular appt, so it was probably worth going just to get the "wait and see" option out of the way. I didn't mention the bf Blush.

Since there's not much I can do about it atm I've been trying not to think about it too much. Dd has suddenly become rather insistent on her am feed, plus she's been waking early and I'd rather feed her than get up before 7. I'm on cd15 now, so hoping af won't turn up tomorrow.

jaggy did your af turn up? Good luck to you and everyone else.

good luck jaggy! I know what you mean, about temp taking. On holiday I only took temps for a few days when I thought I was ovulating, just to confirm it happened. Then I packed the thermometer away! I didn't intend to take temps at all, but it turned out I did want to confirm ov!

emjsouth hi - good luck with ttc. I know most women can get pg while feeding, I'm just beginning to wonder whether I'm one of them! DD is over 2 yrs now, I would love to feed another child at the same time. Its a case of balancing the desire for another... I don't believe its much to do with diet though. I think for some women their hormones just work well whether they are BFing or not - I've never had a good track record with hormones (irregular cycles etc) although bizarrely my periods have never been as regular as they are right now! Luteal phase a tad on the short side though (11 days) and I'm sure it used to be longer, so I do wonder if that's BF doing that.

emjsouth · 19/04/2011 18:17

Hi I would just like to say to all you women who are thinking of maybe stoping bf to get pregnant that as long as your diets good you should not need to. I have 3 children ages nearly 4 3 and 1 and I haven't stoped bf since my first was born and it lovely to feed both your children at once and I am convinced that's why I have never had any jelersy between my children so it is possable and good luck I know how it feels as I am ttc no 4 (I must be mad ;))

jaggythistle · 19/04/2011 15:07

hello isla. glad you had a nice holiday, sorry about period turning up.

I'm in a very similar position to you, DS was conceived month 2 first time round and I'm a bit disheartened to be on month 7 now. Even 7 months isn't that long at all but it's hard not to be impatient and super broody so i know what you mean. :(

i also wish i knew whether bf is making a difference. we are down to 2-3 feeds a day now, i don't do a bedtime one unless he doesn't settle after his story. i work shifts so am not there every evening anyway.

am trying to be more relaxed this 2ww so i stopped temp taking after ov was confirmed.

only 4 or 5 dpo now.

IslandIsla · 19/04/2011 13:25

Hello all, this thread has dried up a bit!

silken have you seen the doctor yet? How did it go?

Hugs to Queen

glad things are going well martha thats great

Back from a fantastic holiday - although the day I got my period towards the end I was a bit sad Sad So 4 months now and no success, feeling really down about it. This is mainly because 4 of my close friends are pregnant with their second child and I'm feeling really left out. I keep thinking how much I want DD to have a sibling too. I know, its only 4 months, but DD was conceived within a month, so this TTC rollercoaster is new to me.

I've dropped another feed this week, and reduced the morning feed, so she's having a lot less milk now (1 short morning feed, and bedtime). I don't really want to stop completely yet but I am getting really broody for another one, and so far its not happening! I wish I knew how much the BF was affecting it. I'll give it another few months and evaluate again then if nothing's still happening!

how's everyone?

marthamay · 13/04/2011 09:31

Hello Everyone!!!!
Queen Fee - sorrry you are feeling down, but surely this is the best thread to come and vent on. I think you have every right to feel crappy after 16 months Sad. Things could change at any second though.
My bean is still sticking so should be about 8-9 weeks at this point I think. I have my booking in app in a few weeks so hopefully that will make things more real. I'm still BF my DS 3-4 times in the day and sometimes once at night.
Good Luck this month everyone, sending waves of hope and BFP's in your direction.
xxxxx

silkenladder · 09/04/2011 07:32

QueenFee, sorry to hear you're feeling down. It's difficult, isn't it, especially when you know stopping bf could improve your chances dramatically.

I've dropped the morning feed (most days) and have a dr appt on Tues, so maybe I'll get some answers.

Hi
I'm still here but feel a bit of a fraud as seriously reconsidering no4
Still swi so it may still happen I am so disheartened though as been on this thread from the very beginning :(
16 months of bfn has put me in a negitive mood hence I didn't want to post and be depressing...
Good luck ladies

jaggythistle · 07/04/2011 14:26

I'm still here but still in the 'no ovulation yet- nothing to report' phase Grin

hi everyone :)

silkenladder · 07/04/2011 12:55

OP posts:
jaggythistle · 31/03/2011 06:25

should have read 'CD3 now though'

jaggythistle · 31/03/2011 06:25

Hello all, I've been a bit quiet too - was very good last cycle with no testing or worrying, that's me on CD3 now so crossing fingers for cycle 7 :)

Florida should definitely distract you Isla!

Hi squareknickers and kd.

DS has been sleeping pretty well, hoping it continues into SWI week this time...

IslandIsla · 31/03/2011 00:45

Hi all, and welcome squareknickers - i know what you mean, my mum had two babies by 24 (I;m 31) and a 2yr gap (my DD just turned 2). We just have to go with what we get...

Good luck KD

I've dropped the supplements this cycle (except folic acid) and just going with it. Had some EWCM the last few days as as we're staying with family this week and DH not working have managed to SWI the last three nights... just deciding whether to go for a fourth attempt tonight! Off on holiday to Florida next week, so hoping to spend the 2WW not thinking about it at all... well thats the plan anyway!!

silkenladder · 30/03/2011 21:30

Welcome squareknickers and kd.

Just marking my place as this thread has fallen off my "I'm on". How's everyone getting on?

OP posts:
QueenFee · 26/03/2011 02:50

Hi KD :)
I know what it's like to be worried about repeat problems. I had that with my last preg. I was concerned that I would end up with severe spd again (I was in a wheelchair with ds1) I was also concerned that dc3 would end up being ill like he was too. :(
Do you know why dd was prem?
Doing a night feed hence the time! Trying to reduce night feeds here so have finally got dh involved after a hearty 'discussion' it appears to be helping but 1st night so I will wait and see!

KD0706 · 25/03/2011 18:03

Oops, forgot, I'm 30 and I'm ttc dc#2

KD0706 · 25/03/2011 17:25

Hi all. Can I join in please.
DD is 11 mo and we've decided to just 'relax and see what happens'. Which I think will very quickly descend into frantic temperature taking, lots of random preg tests etc.

I'm a bit anxious because DD was prem so a bit scared that if I get preg I might have another premmie (might start a thread in the prem birth topic actually).

I'm due back at work soon and DD feeds once in the night, first thing in the morning, 4.30 ish then bedtime. I'm hoping that although she's not night weaned, the big gap in the day between feeds might jump start AF.

allsquareknickersnofurcoat · 24/03/2011 00:00

Hello ladies...

I'm on the 5 day countdown so thought I'd find some others in the same position :)

My stats are...
Squareknickers: 25, DS 6 months, TTC#2, AF since Nov

Both mum and nan EBF and were both 3m pg with DD2 by now :(

IslandIsla · 22/03/2011 21:42

I'm 31 with a 2yr old... maybe we need a need set of stats!

QueenFee · 22/03/2011 19:07

On that note how old is everyone and their dc?
I am 29 and my dcs are 6 4 and 20 months

jaggythistle · 21/03/2011 12:46

hi Broodzilla. :)

I'm 33 with an 18mo myself.

good luck ttc...

QueenFee · 21/03/2011 12:20

Isla there is always the sofa...Wink
Hi broodzilla!

IslandIsla · 20/03/2011 22:23

Hi Broodzilla! welcome

I have a question about cosleeping... how does it work with SWI! DD has been ill over the last month and we've been cosleeping a lot, but this doesn't make SWI easy!!
