No snow here today, just ice and freezing weather. Had to put extra layers on this morning to get to work. I would love a hot choc with a flake and cream and marshmallows right now!!

Am feeling a bit sick today :( makes up for feeling fine yesterday I guess! At least it's the weekend soon so I can rest :) we're off to the ILs and will tell them about the pg so I will get spoiled.

WYorksLass · 25/11/2010 13:46

Thanks Taylor, i'm sure it will be ok! The wedding is this Saturday.

Funnily enough, when we chose the date i mentioned that it would be nice if it snowed and my OH and Dad both said. "Don't be silly, it won't snow in November!" I'm getting my own back now!

Ooops, sorry WW, didn't mean to set you off thinking about junk food!

The snow has stopped and it's lovely and sunny here now. Bitterly cold though!

TaylorSatsuma · 25/11/2010 13:32

Sadly no snow here either... I'm a bit of a romantic and like the way it makes every look clean and pretty! (and the school shutting last year wasn't a bad thing either Grin)

bebe Hope you didn't think I was being patronising - I think your plan is very sensible! That's why we've waited until now to start TTC, because I didn't want to go off straight after NQT year. Your uncle's right that you can switch to primary but not the other way around - from a mercernary point of view, too, depending on what subject you teach you get a bigger bursary while training in secondary. I got £9k as I teach a shortage subject, plus a £2.5k golden hello (sadly taxable so ended up rather a lot less than that!) at the beginning of my second year. There are also more places on secondary courses I think. Partly depends on where in the country you are, in terms of how easy it is to get a job. Having said all that, you've got to enjoy what you're doing, so just do whatever your heart tells you (at the risk of sounding cheesy!) - I'm sure you probably know a lot about it if your family are teachers so just go with what you will enjoy most. Can you do some observation in both primary and secondary? I spent a couple of days in my old school before deciding which really helped.

WYorksLass Hope snow holds off to let everyone get to the wedding! I'm sure they'll all make it, it takes a lot to keep people away from weddings. When is it? (sorry am a bit behind)

I really should brave the cold and go out... Want to do some relaxing baking today (I have been signed off work for a week so need to relax...)

It's been snowing on and off here most of the morning. Very light and not sticking though!

I appear to have eaten a large, hot sausage roll before my buttie. I think this healthy eating lark will have to wait until we get back from Honeymoon Grin

bebejones · 25/11/2010 12:14

Oooooh Hot Chocolate! YUM! :)

Was a very crowded train last night! Wink

No snow here, bloody cold though!

Also meant to say...

100years, your symptoms sound very promising. I have my fingers crossed for you and WW.

nanny, how exciting. Do you mind saying what CD you are on? I am on CD 3. We could have things happening around the same time.

WYorksLass · 25/11/2010 09:17

Wow, there's been a lot of stuff for me to catch up on this morning.

No snow here yet, but it is imminent apparently. My parents town (1.5 hours from here) was on the national news this morning covered in snow! Mum tells me she'll be at the wedding even if she has to hire a tractor!!! I hope everyone else makes it.

Welcome to Astro and Taylor, nice to see some new faces :)

Bebe, i hope your nephew is ok.
Not sure if it helps but my uncle was diagnosed with MS at the age of about 30. He is now past 60, retired and living life to the full. As far as i know he has the occasional relapse but manages to get around fine and doesn't appear to have too many issues with it.

bebejones · 25/11/2010 08:37

Taylor - I am under no illusion that it will be easy!! Because of having to have a year PGCE & a year NQT & then working as well it's why I want to wait til after I have children now. I don't want to start & get a job & then leave straight away IYSWIM? My biggest issue at the moment is what area to teach! (I come from a family of teachers) I think I want to teach Primary but my Uncle (who is a teacher) keeps telling me I should train as a Secondary teacher & then I can switch when qualified but can't do it the other way round! [Confused] Not convinced myself!!

Astro - agree that you really need to chat (I know, I know! Pot, kettle, black! Hmm) You need to spell it out to them I think & also need to find out what is going on in his mind, for all you know he could be worried about you & that's what his sticking point is!

Suppose I had better go & get DD up, it's so cold & icy here & I want to stay in my PJs, but have to go & move the car off the road before the traffic warden shows up! Angry

OP posts:
TaylorSatsuma · 24/11/2010 22:51

bebe In relation to PGCE, huge respect for people doing it with young children! I know a few people who have and I'm sure you know this already but my goodness it's hard work. Having said that - some people find PGCE harder than your NQT (probation) year, others are the other way round. I'm in the latter category... NQT year was hardest thing I've ever done! On the plus side I have now been at my school for well over a year so am entitled to all the maternity benefits, and it will be nice when we finally have DCs to have the holidays off. Plus it is sooo much easier this year (I didn't believe anyone who told me last year it would get better, but it does) and I'm actually starting to enjoy it.

Hope that's okay... just thought I'd throw in my teacherly twopennorth of experience!!

squirrel007 · 24/11/2010 22:18

Hi all! It's been busy on here today! Welcome astro and satsuma :)

astro have you and your DH talked at all about having kids in the past? I can see how it might take him time to come round to the idea. Maybe you can make some time to talk about it without any pressure for a definite answer either way, just find out what you both are thinking on the subject.

bebe sorry to hear about your DH's nephew, must be worrying for you :(

whywait and 100years hope the symptom spotting isn't driving you too mad! It's so hard not to pay more attention than usual.

nannyl exciting news about officially ttc!

Hi to everyone else [waves]

strawberrypie · 24/11/2010 22:05

x-posted ! oops!

strawberrypie · 24/11/2010 22:04

Week wait astro as in 2 week wait- the time from ovulation and SWI (shagging with intent) to possible AF-period if not pregnant or `BFP (big fat positive) if pregnant!

We make it all very complicated!

How long have you been with your partner? When did you first mention children? What did he say? Sorry for being nosy! :)

PS I am a vet! Lovely to have someone on here in the same business!

WhyWait - yes please....& thanks...WW???

AstroZola · 24/11/2010 21:39

as i'm here now can i let you all in on my concerns?

i'm only 27 but will be 28 if DP agrees to let us TTC so will be 29 by the time LO arrives if i'm lucky...i don't want to be much older as a mum...esp. if we have 2?!.

I'm planning on TTC in September/October 2011...so i'll be here for a while too...reason being is i need to finish my training and hopefully pass my exams and qualify to become a vet nurse...also will give us time to save some pennies too....we're not very financially well off...we struggle all the time but as my friend said - who does already have a DS and is trying for another...there's just no right time to have a baby and nobody can really afford them....

however, i digress....i'm more concerned about TTC with my endometriosis, depression, previous bout of chlamydia when i was 19 and the fact that i have a tilted uterus....my dr said i really shouldn't have any problems as i'm still young (ish), there are no lesions on my ovaries from the endometriosis and being tilted doesn't really matter....i'm still dubious though...i should ideally come off the antidepressants and have my coil removed at the end of August, have 1-2 normal periods and then start trying. this is all however if DP agrees...maybe i'll talk to him again in the new year....let him have a few months to think about it and then explain that i need to know asap so i can start preparing for it as there's lots for me to do and consider...sorry for the VERY long msg x

nannyl · 24/11/2010 21:36

strawberry... lol
I really dont want an augast baby... have nannied for a couple of children who have been the youngest in the year, and i vowed to myself to make sure i didnt have baby due then...
(also nannied for a September and an October baby, and always thought, what a bit of luck they wernt a little older and at school a whole year earlier!)
but then i guess by aiming for a 12 sep due date i am cutting it fine Confused

Obviously all that really really matters is that its healthy Smile
also i have my heart set in children 1 school year apart (no idea why i just do) so at least if i have 1 at the beginning of the school year, i have a bit of time to get in number 2, and them not to be the youngest either!

strawberrypie · 24/11/2010 21:28

Hello Astro and Satsuma! Good names :)

Whywait - I am secretly worried about not getting pregnant immediately when we eventually start TTC so I can really empathise with you. Even though we all know the advice about it taking up to a year even for totally healthy peeps it is still a concern (especially with all the tales of getting pregnant from sharing the same mug etc from the likes of lucky Jbells! :) )

Hope your little nephew gets better soon bebe. Your situation must be so frustrating! It's not even as if your OH can look for another job as he is self-employed/working with family he can't just move on. The last thing you need is for him to burn out though. Maybe things will improve after xmas? If the recession lifts a little then they could take on more staff and reduce the pressure, money would be rolling in and you could be up the duff quicker than a quick thing! :)

Good luck with the 2nd interview AC!

Great to hear about the scan jbells! What a lovely thing, Were you as exited as you were with DD?

100years, glad work is a bit better, Try not to send yourself round the bend with the symptom spotting!

nannyl you make me chuckle with the CAPITALS-' I do NOT want an August baby' etc! it makes you sound very stern but I'm sure you are not really! (I know you just like to have everything planned out) I would like a baby of any monthly variety at the moment but still having to wait for circumstances to be right. HMMPHH!

hi JS, WYorks, quod and everyone :)

AstroZola · 24/11/2010 21:25

I found that thank you....but there are some i see that aren't there...can someone please tell me what AF is? x

bebejones · 24/11/2010 21:04

WW - DH doesn't know that I wouldn't be able to do it til 2012! Wink Ideally I wanted to do my PGCE after number 2, when DD has started school! UWE have a nursery which is free for children of students. Would be perfect to just leave LO there for lectures & then have MIL watch them whilst I was 'working'. That was the plan, although I would actually love to stay at home as long as possible! Wink
At the back of my mind through all of this is I just don't know how many 'good years' I have left with my MS. Could be 20 or 30, could be 2 or 3! Hmm Nightmare! I don't want to put anything off in case it doesn't happen at all!

Astro - there is a handy list of Acronyms linked at the top of the page. Although we do have our own as well! :o

Hey all, there's been a lot of replies since i posted...DP has had the computer since...thanks for the welcomes and advice...i really don't want to scare him...but reading about your situation 100years and nannyl has made me very excited...even more so and i think it's only going to get even more intense, i do hope you have good news...jbells...i'm so excited to be feeling a little person inside of me too...it's something i've always wanted to experience...i just previously never wanted the child...now i do...Blush...and bebe i really hope your nephew gets better...that must be the most awful thing to go through with a child...that's one thing i'm sure i'll dread...
I'm actually finding it quite tricky to catch on with the lingo and the functions etc...bear with me
