Thanks everyone. Bit miserable tonight, not least because "to cheer me up" DH had his mother round to clean the flat while I was at work. She's done the bedroom and everything. Xmas Hmm

100years · 22/12/2010 22:23

AC really sorry to hear that :( Boo :(

squirrel007 · 22/12/2010 21:42

Really sorry to hear that AC :( Hope you are at home now with your DH being spoilt.

bebeinamanger · 22/12/2010 20:14

Oh no! AC, so sorry! You still did SO well to get that far through such a gruelling interview process! Hope you get lots of hugs & spoilt rotten at Christmas by your DH!

Nannyl - I have unblocked mine! :o Salt & boiling water was the key! I am so relieved. Plus feeling a bit smug as DH had been 'living' with it for 3 days! Hmm Men!!! Keep going, once the bath is done the sink will probably follow! That's what mine did!

AmandaCooper · 22/12/2010 19:49

Well I am not home from work yet but I am sure I will do when I get there! Thanks for the support, it is much appreciated.

jinglebellssantasmells · 22/12/2010 19:17

sorry AC, hope u r getting lots oh hugs of your DP

WYorksLass · 22/12/2010 16:14

Sorry to hear that AC, i'm sending hugs too ((((((((())))))))))

nannyl · 22/12/2010 15:56

oh so so so sorry to hear that AC [HUG]

You should still be proud of yourself for getting so far.
Does this mean you might be TTC now instead?

AmandaCooper · 22/12/2010 15:50

I didn't get it.

nannyl · 22/12/2010 14:12

ooooh

I have loads of salt in the cellar (stocked up on a value salt in Novemeber Tesco order Grin).

I have managed to unfreeze my bath but not the sink Sad
then i ran the shower on super hot for about 15 mins once it was working.

Hair dryer wont help me im afraid as the pipe is outside... we have an alley under our house and the bathroom is on top, so id need to be about 10ft tall to reach.

Didnt realise you meant lapland UK, but even so, you have one a trip to lapland (uk) and a hamper and £100 sainsburys vouchers.... that still makes you very lucky. Smile

Agree in this weather not worth risking with a toddler. What a shame Sad

bebeinamanger · 22/12/2010 14:06

Someone suggested a hairdryer on the pipes, won't work for us, but would that help you?

bebeinamanger · 22/12/2010 14:05

LaplandUK, it's in Kent! Just can't risk the 3+ hour drive in this weather with a toddler. :( Also won £100 Sainsbury's vouchers so DH & I are going there when I pick him up! :)

I thought the boiling water was working when the sink bubbled & drained but it has since filled back up! I have now resorted to tipping salt down the plugholes! Need to buy more as didn't have much & had to sacrifice the Maldon sea salt!

nannyl · 22/12/2010 13:20

yum that fudge sounds good.

bebe can i ask, after all your boling water in, mop out, boiling water in, mop out did you actually achieve anything?

I could spend the next few hours doing just that, but if it hasnt worked wonder if thers any point.

Good luck Xmas shopping
Im very relieved to have mine coming to me, although I am going to go to my lovely market tomorrow, to get some fresh local veg, and pick up my meat / stuffing / pigs-in-blankets etc from here

Wow so you have won a trip to lapland AND a hamper? perhaps you need to get some more lottery tickets, lol!

bebeinamanger · 22/12/2010 13:10

It's a complete nightmare isn't it?! I haven't plunged...yet! But won't after you said that! We only have one bathroom, so are completely screwed! Thankfully the toilet is ok, the toilet waste pipe is deeper down. But I am worried as we have had problems with the toilet blocking alot this year! Confused Stupid old plumbing system!

Can't shower/bath at all & have been brushing my teeth in the kitchen! Poor DD is going to have to have a 'bath' in the kitchen sink!! :(

You have had a busy morning. I have made some white chocolate & cranberry fudge. Was going to do peppermint creams, but don't have a lemon! Will have to do that 2moro. Have mince pies to make too, but need some butter for the pastry. I am picking DH up from work later [scared emoticon] then we are going to do the final pre Xmas food shop! My hamper of stuff that I won arrived this morning so at least we won't starve, and I did buy a turkey joint & ready to roast potatoes (I know it's lazy but DD won't eat it & I don't want to spend all day cooking) just need veg! Hmm

nannyl · 22/12/2010 12:53

Hey bebe can i join you.

Our family bathroom pipes are frozen too Sad
Have friends coming to stay today and thought id just give it a clean... (not sure why as our cleaner did it on Friday and we havent used it at all)

anyway the waste pipes are frozen

decided to try shower on super hot in the bath.... no luck
then a kettle down the sink.... no luck
decided to plunge... what a disaster... all this manky mouldy stuff came out the overflow Shock didnt learn lesson from this and tried to plunge the bath, same happened

big mistake
i now have a sink full of manky mouldy discusting smelling brown water and a bath full of the same.
(thankfully to toilet is ok)

Other wise have had a good day
iced my Xmas cake, made cranberry sauce and Nigellas Xmas cup cake. Hoovered, mopped kitchen floor, washed up, done ironing, but now have this to sort out.

GRRR

waiting for Sainsburys now who are bringing my Xmas groceries. Think i'll just leave the bath / sink, apoliguse and they can use the en suite instead!

bebeinamanger · 22/12/2010 12:44

DH has to collate some kind of information, daily report things. (Not 100% sure what) so hopefully it is only a couple of hours work a day & he can do it form home!

Fingers crossed your DH can get out of that! That would suck!!!

Just had to cancel taking DD to LaplandUK 2moro :( Sad because I won it, but just can't risk taking a 2 year old in this weather on such a trek across the country late at night! Took DH over an hour to do the 15min journey to work!

JustShaggingForNow · 22/12/2010 12:23

Good idea on the plumbing front. There is great money in that! DH thought about it for a while!!!!!!

Crappy that your DH has to work over xmas. Mine announced yesterday evening that he thinks that he may have to go up to Leeds on xmas eve for work (despite being on holiday this week has has worked every day so far) I pointed out that if he was in Leeds on xmas eve then there is a strong possibility that he won't be able to get back to Bath for xmas eve night or xmas day if the weather turns bad - which would make me VERY grumpy! Fingers crossed he can postpone it or get out of it.

bebeinamanger · 22/12/2010 11:44

Unfortunately DH will be working a lot over the Christms 'break' :( Think things are a bit stressful but he is doing his best not to let on to me Hmm

Just don't know what to do about frozen pipe! Confused Our bathroom is downstairs & the pipes go straight out of the house underground into the main drain! Can't get to them to warm them up!! It's definitely ice rather than a blockage coz when I clear it & the water comes back up it's clear & freezing cold! Maybe I should train to be a plumber rather than a teacher...probably more money in it! Hmm Wink

JustShaggingForNow · 22/12/2010 11:20

Oh bebe that sucks. This cold weather is getting so tiresome at the moment isn't it?

How is your DH feeling? Looking forward to some nice family time over xmas?

bebeinamanger · 22/12/2010 10:40

AC - Funny situation isn't it? You want the new job because you hate where you are. But at the same time you don't want it so you can TTC! I guess whatever happens, happens. Let fate decide! :)

JS - Exciting planning things though, even if it all seems a way off & is based on assumptions!

Well, our bathroom waste pipes are frozen! I have spent the morning pouring boiling water down the sink & bath & then mopping it out again. Arm aches now! :( This is so typical of my life at the moment!

JustShaggingForNow · 22/12/2010 10:01

Morning All!

AC I am keeping everything crossed for you on the job front. Wouldn't that be a wonderful xmas pressie?!? I know it would mean delaying TTC for a bit which would be very frustrating now that you have finally got your DH onboard but hopefully it would be good news in other ways. Starting a new job when you want more than anything to be PG is strange.

I am hopefully still planning on starting TTC in June. Only 6 months to go and hopefully that will go quickly. Think we will plan a trip to India in November and so I guess that we will have to stop TTC after August to make sure that I am a minimum of 12 weeks by the time we fly. Got to pop into see my GP in Jan for a chat and also to get my annual smear done (joy!!!) so will go over things with them then.

I've done quite a bit of travel in the last few years so have had most of my vaccinations but those that I will need before India I guess I can get before we start to TTC. I also need to check on the situation with anti-malarials and pregnancy. Funny how I am planning all of this but we might not even be able to get pregnant straight away. Funny how we all assume that it happens relatively quickly isn't it!!!!!

WW sorry to hear about this months BFN. Is it wrong of me to say that looking on the positive side it does mean you can have a few drinkies at xmas and NYE?!?

[waves to everybody else and hands out mince pies and sherry!!]

AmandaCooper · 22/12/2010 07:35

More practicing, MrsSatsuma?! Thanks for the encouragement. Hopefully we'll find out today or tomorrow. I don't want it hanging over me over Christmas.

MrsSatsuma · 21/12/2010 22:37

AC I'm sure your interview went better than you thought - things always look worse to ourselves than to other people. As somebody above (sorry I can't remember who!) said, if you've got that far they must really like you.

DH is laughing at me for posting on MN. Hmph!

Went to get extra HPT today as we'll be away when AF due and discovered that local Tesco, which isn't particularly small, don't sell them!!

100years · 21/12/2010 21:52

Well I get to finish at 3am so it's not on properly Christmas day and won't be missing dinner etc. Although I will be shattered if I do it. Last year (and next year if I'm not on matty leave) I was (will be) working 23rd, 24th, 25th, 26th and 27th, now that was (and will be if I'm there) shit!!!

AmandaCooper · 21/12/2010 21:40

Oh no! That's a bit of a raw deal 100years. I'd hate to have to work on Christmas day.
