spilttheteaagain · 18/11/2010 20:39

spilttea both... thereisa big section on avoiding pg :)

spilttheteaagain · 18/11/2010 20:07

Those of you who own TCOYF, does it talk about how to ttc and how to avoid pregnancy? Or is it just ttc?

I never want to ever have to go back on the pill (long story) so if I can get this natural family planning malarky sorted for post DC that would be ace Smile

Iwish i have started with opks twice or three times a day coming into fertile time (cheapies of amazon 30 for a fiver)sometimes picks up a surge after lunch or about 4pm ish - they may be cheap but they do tend to work. Second TCOYF - its fab!

Thanx split and mrsa for the advice, you have been so helpgul and all seem so lovely.

My cycles do seem fairly regular thankfully. I was panicking about there being no smiley faces, i must b a real worrier. I was doing them 1st thing in the morning which could be where I've been going wrong. I was thinking about the temping but it seemed all very confusing, if we don't get lucky this time I may have to reconsider. I hope my little egg hurries up, I think one of my symptoms of O must be sore boobs because they are sooo sore and were the same the past few cycles. I'll be keeping up the SWI, poor other half is shattered lol. it does seem 2 have taken ages and I am so impatient so fingers crossed. I'm not using fertility friend but I have heard it mentioned, might have a little nosey on there and have a nosey at the book. Sorry I can't contribute much at the moment, still trying 2 learn the lingo 2 :)

nickstermum · 18/11/2010 12:46

Thanks ever so much ladies, your knowledge is fab!! Much appreciated. I did think day 19, but now i know a little more about it, im hoping it helps be a little easier moving forward :)

TerrysNo2 · 18/11/2010 11:34

MrsA how can you tell!?!? I think I would be worrying (moaning Grin) if they were all over the place too!!

I meant to say Nickster, i agree it looks like CD19. On FF I use the 'research' method of analysis, not 'advanced', as my temps are slow to respond to my hormones so that confuses the 'advanced' method and i always got dotted lines. Using 'research' it gives me full lines (and you don't need to be a VIP to use it).
Maybe give it a try.

Terrys you are a worrier like me I think! I really don't think it's anything to worry about yet. You could be having a cycle of stable temps or sleeping better is helping. Wait and see what happens and do try not to worry. (Am impressed you have found your cervix btw!)

Hi Iwish welcome. I know it must seem an age since you started TTC but don't forget, most couples do manage to conceive within 12 months. It took DP and I 12 months to conceive DD and we've been TTC No 2 since July.
IMO you're doing the right thing charting as I think I know why it took us so long with DD - I didn't chart and assumed I ov around 14-16 CD. I now know I ov between 18 and 23, so probably most of our SWI was at the wrong time. It was only at xmas 2007 when we said sod it and ate and drank LOADS and shagged when we wanted that we conceived on xmas day! Looking at my cycle length fro then I must have ov CD 24.

Sorry, I've rambled on there. Are you using fertilityfriend.com? That's very good to help you see your cycles. And the opks are only positive if the 2nd line is a strong one (unlike a pg test Grin). Your body may be trying to ov but the only way you'll know for sure is if you chart your temps.
I also recommend buying the book Taking Control of your Fertility by (name escapes me - someone else here will know). It opened my eyes and is a really easy read.

Gonna shut up now - mega post bored at workGrin

spilttheteaagain · 18/11/2010 11:19

MrsA as a few of us have found, the AF symptoms and the early pg ones are often the same - cramps, bloated etc so no reason to give up hope. Fingers crossed for you.

Welcome Iwish. Firstly its good news that your cycles are a normal length and pretty regular. OPKs can be a bit hit and miss and not getting the positive certainly doesn't mean you aren't ovulating. They detect the LH surge that triggers ovulation, not ovulation itself. It's possible to have more than one LH surge, and it's possible to have the surge and then not ovulate (maybe due to stress/illness for example). Also the surge is very short and if you test daily it's still possible to miss it.
You won't necessarily ovulate on the same cycle day each cycle, so it's possible based on this month's OPKs that you are due to ovulate shortly (maybe CD17/18) which sounds like it would be a couple of days later than last month.
The part of your cycle that should be consistent is your luteal phase, which is the bit between ovulation and your period arriving. So if you ovulate later than usual then you will have a longer cycle than usual, your period may therefore appear "late" but isn't really.

If you want to get the best results out of the OPKs, people generally find that they should test mid afternoon after not weeing for a couple of hours and not drinking much.

If I was you I would be tempted to start temping to try and get a bit more information, but understand not everyone likes to completely destroy the spontanaeity! Either way, don't stop SWI-ing for now! Good luck Smile

TerrysNo2 · 18/11/2010 11:05

nickster hello! I am not an expert on charting but slowly getting to understand it more. I would guess that, as LadyG says, your temps aren't consistent enough to provide an accurate coverline so I would go with the other signs - CM, OPK, cervix and assume CD19.

MrsA you do have beautifully neat temp rises!! Smile Fingers are crossed!

I am getting very worried/confused about my temps - it was the same again today!? Has anyone else had this before?? Confused

Iwish · 18/11/2010 11:02

Hi all. I'm new to ttc (now on cycle #4) and have been reading your posts over the last few days and just wondered if I could join and have a bit of a rant. We are ttc #1 and have figured it isn't that easy! Since coming off the pill I have had a 27 day, 25 day and a 26 day cycle. I haven't used opks or tracked bbt but have noticed i had ewcm cd12 or cd13 on those cycles. This month I tried opks and nothing, no smiley faces! I bought some tesco opks when the clearable ones were gone and have had a very weak test line on cd15/16 and today cd17. Would anyone have any idea what's goin on?? Apologies for the very long post. :o)

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 18/11/2010 10:28

Morning ladies. 10 DPO and temps still up - the next few days will be critical as last cycle I went 12 DPO. Am trying to prepare myself for the disappointment of a temp plunge.
Am feeling a bit crampy today, like my body is gearing up for af - so hopes starting to go.

Ah well, acupuncture later today....

Keep your fingers crossed.

Fedupttcnosuccess · 18/11/2010 08:58

Hi girls! Hope you're all doing well! No time to read from the beginning. At work. You have been very busy chatting here. Good luck to all- will catch up at some point soon. Xxx

nickstermum · 18/11/2010 08:55

Thanks ladyG i managed to leave my thermometre in a hotel for the week before OV and was waiting for another! I try to do it at 6.45ish but like this morning i woke an hour earlier, so took temp as soon as woke is that right?!

I now have a stash of therms, bedroom, car briefcase just in case i lose one again!

I didnt want to override using the OPK primary sign as i wanted to try to start to understand the temps, and use those.. using the opk as a secondary factor.

I thought 19 too but FF was still saying no ov detected on day 22 which threw me! All the fertile signs (ewcm/cervix/twitchiness/jellylegs) i got on 18 and 19 and nothing since :)

Thanks for your help :)

LadyGoneGaga · 18/11/2010 08:19

I'd say day 19, Nickster. You've confused it because you haven't put in enough data in the run up and it's not sure where your baseline temps should be. You can override it by asking it to use OPK as primary sign if you like.

Are you consistent with what time you take your temps?

nickstermum · 18/11/2010 07:04

morning ladies,

I was wondering whether i may ask for some help with reading my chart please? I am a regular over on the MC/TTC thread and have only just started to temp this month so am a bit of a novice. Any help you can give me in actually pin pointing the ov date i would be very grateful. Pos OPKS on day 18 and 19 but the coverline has been put at OV day 21. Have to say a few days i tend to take the temp when i wake (rather than at exactly at the same time each day...courtesy of DS!)

Any tips or help anyone could offer, would help me tremendously Grin

newyearsday · 17/11/2010 22:19

Massive congratulations LadyGG, wishing you a healthy and happy pregnancy xx

IfAtFirstUDontSucceed · 17/11/2010 21:12

Great news there digi!

So glad your docs were so supportive spilt, it is quite rare.

7DPO here and desperate for symptoms, but nada!

BTW today would have been the EDD for the little bean that didnt stick, and I don't feel too bad (I actually forgot until I saw my discreet little asterix on my calendar at work).
In hind-sight, it was really early, and some of you ladies have had such a horrendous time in comparison, so I've made sure that I didnt dwell on it too much.

spilttheteaagain · 17/11/2010 13:26

I also saw my MW at the surgery when she went past the waiting room and suddenly I remembered today was the day I was due to have my 25 week check. Should be 25+5 now Sad

OP posts:
spilttheteaagain · 17/11/2010 13:20

vics I'm not currently taking anything to try and lengthen my LP. Earlier this year I took EPO prior to ovulation and a Vit B Complex but have no idea whether it had any effect as I conceived that cycle. Only just had my first AF post miscarriage so I'm not inclined to meddle too much just yet (maybe next month!)

battery do you have any previous charts you can overlay with your one to see if that helps interpret it?

I have found the holy grail (only taken 3.5 years...) a sensitive, kind GP who is permanent at my surgery Grin woohoo get out the party poppers!! He was lovely this morning, happily did me the fit note I requested so I can have a phased return to work. He was very sympathetic to what has happened to me and said not to feel at all guilty or ashamed if I find I need to take more time off. God it makes a difference when they are humane.

digi that's great news that you are going to get your tests run quickly.

OP posts:
digitalgirl · 17/11/2010 13:18

spilt hope the chat with the doc went well. Phased return to work sounds very sensible.

Haven't looked at anyone's chart yet as too many peeps in the office right now, but will have a squizz later.

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 17/11/2010 12:04

Terry I wouldn't worry too much - as i'm learning, every cycle is different. In the summer my cover lines were around the 36.1 mark but this cycle it's around 36.4. Perhaps the effect of better sleep is stabilising you.
And some people (and some cycles of the same person) are more influenced by inconsistencies.
My temps rarely go up just because I'm drinking and I once re-took my temp around 9am after taking my BBT in bed at 6.30am, by the book cos I was nosey and it was exactly the same, despite me getting up and getting myself and DD ready etc.

There is nothing you can do anyway, just keep relaxed (ha - easy to say) and focussed on CM and temp shifts, not actuals.

I'm trying not to obsess atm, am CD 31. It took me another 2 weeks to get bfp with DD. i hate this waiting!
