The August Bus departs tomorrow....

Come and join me if you are TTC an August baby [hgrin]

This is my first bus and I think I am being brave in starting the engine.

**still no positive

GetDownYouWillFall · 12/11/2010 18:53

Teds77 has given a very good summary passthechocs

I got 50 opks from amazon for around £8. I started testing on CD9 ( a bit silly really) am now on CD17 and till no positive, but because they were cheap I'm not feeling guilty about using one every day.

The big downside for me is that you have to test in the day (the hormone being tested for is LH and it doesn't show up in urine until afternoon apparently).

It's a bit of a pain when you are at work TBH... the instructions also say to not wee for 4 hours beforehand and to restrict your liquid intake which is a bit annoying.

Today I met a friend for lunch, and it was a bit of a pain to have to bring my OPK with me... although they are in tiny sachets which can easily fit into a pocket, so you can be quite discreet.

Teds77 · 12/11/2010 18:44

Welcome drdolly have my fingers crossed that you and GetDown have a better month Smile

passthechocs probably many more OPK experts out there... But FWIW I have used Clearblue Digital OPKs for the last couple of months. If you buy them on Amazon 7 sticks are £13ish (packs of 20 sticks £36ish) so not cheap. Instructions with the kit but basically you POAS once a day and you get a Smile on the digital screen of the stick when you get your hormone surge (not sure which hormone but indicates you are soon to ov). For the next 48hrs you should SWI.

Depending on the length of your cycle they recommend a day to start POAS. I have a 26-27 UCL and I think they said to start on CD9 but I started on CD7 (just in case) and got my Smile on CD12. This month I started CD10 and got my Smile on CD13.

If you search for Clearblue on Amazon the other 'internet cheapy' OPKs also come up. You can get 30 for around a £5 or others may know of better deals. Much, much cheaper so probably worth investigating, especially as you may need to test for lots of days to start with given the variety in your cycle length. I haven't used these but I think you get a control line and then a second line detecting your surge. The second line will get darker around your surge. Might be more difficult to use but plenty of people seem to do fine with them. At the cheaper price you could also afford to do a couple of tests a day so you definitely catch your surge.

Sorry for long post, hope it helps!

jaggythistle · 12/11/2010 18:44

x-post! You have a choice of sites to obsess on now [grin}

ravenlocks · 12/11/2010 18:38

Not sure how to do links but peeonastick.com is pretty informative. Be warned, it might turn you obsessive!

Think doing OPK is a good thing with irregular cycles.

Xx

jaggythistle · 12/11/2010 18:38

Hi passthechocs,

I use Fertility Friend to record my cycles, it is nice and quick and easy. (and free for the basic stuff)

I started doing it just to record when my AF was to see how regular my cycles were.

I quite like going on and updating my wee chart. Grin

I have started temping again this cycle and find all the FAQs on FF very informataive for all sorts of stuff.

I can maybe send you an invite, not sure if that would get you some free 'VIP' days to have a shot of. (VIP = paid for membership with extra features) will look at my account later if you're interested.

passthechocs · 12/11/2010 17:56

Sorry to hear about the MCs, sounds pretty miserable but am pleased that you guys are back TTC. Hope we have sticky BFPs this month.

Have no idea what happens to your cycle after a MC, would it take a bit for hormones to settle down?

I think I need to get a better grip of my cycle - always thought I was a regular 28 days, but having gone through the calender have noticed that since the start of the year, my cycle has been anything from 18-48 days. So either have been writing complete rubbish in the calender (nothing new there then) or my cycle is up the spout. Makes working out when I ov pretty hard. I also used to get pain when it happened, but haven't been noticing any. Have been blithely carrying on as though I know when I ov (mid cycle, surely?) but really not sure now and am wondering about the OPK stuff. But have no idea what they are, how they work etc. Is there a link to a beginners guide?

KLou111 · 12/11/2010 17:23

Fingers well and truely crossed for a busy BFP bus!!!

drdolly · 12/11/2010 17:09

Yes fingers crossed for this cycle. feel better for having joined the bus again. Good luck!

GetDownYouWillFall · 12/11/2010 17:02

That happened to me too, when the bleeding started I was just about to leave for work. I sat DH down and told him. I felt ok.

Then when I got to work the bleeding got really heavy, and seeing it all down the loo I just broke down. I made it through work just about. By the evening I was really really weepy.

I think in the morning I was just in shock and a bit of denial, by the evening I knew what was happening Sad

Hoping this next cycle will be better for both of us!

drdolly · 12/11/2010 16:57

ah thanks. am ok, well, mostly....At first i was very 'practical' about it all and then emotion kicked in. It really sucks, doesn't it, but onwards and upwards eh?! I would love to sit next to you on the bus!
will dig out the thermometer!

GetDownYouWillFall · 12/11/2010 16:43

Hi there drdolly I am in a similar position to you, having had a MC at 5 weeks Sad

I don't know what my cycle is going to be like this time either.

Are you temp charting? I found that a few days after the bleeding stopped, my temps dipped back to a much more normal lower level. So am wondering whether that was the point that the pregnancy hormone finally left my body, and maybe my cycle will start from then...

I have guessed really about my AF due date. I am on CD17 now and still no sign of ov. I suppose it will take a while to all kick back into gear.

We can sit next to each other on the bus ride if you like..

drdolly · 12/11/2010 16:38

Hi ladies
I was on the june bus, but fell off and needed a few weeks to dust myself down for the August bus after a mc at 5 weeks.

I really don't know how to calculate the cycle date after mc so any help would be great.

ravenlocks · 12/11/2010 16:03

Congrats on your engagement 100years! Was it a lovely romantic proposal??

Have a question for those OPKers. Here is my pattern:

CD11 - negative
CD12 - negative
CD13 - negative
CD14 - forgot (d'oh!)
CD15 - positive
CD16 - negative (this is today)

I usually get postives for 2 or 3 days in a row.

I know it is an ovulation prediction but do you also get positives on the day you ovulate too? I haven't done OPK and temping together for more than one cycle so haven't got enough cycle history to work this out for myself (and I am not temping at the moment).

Just wondering if I should give up all hope of conceiving this cycle or not....

Also - for what it is worth I am one of the very youngest in my year and tbh I did struggle at school in the first 3-4 years, but then I caught up and by the time I was sitting exams etc was in the top sets, and went on to go to a top uni etc and have a good degree. I think everyone is different and it doesn't matter much atall - can't even be sure me being behind early on was anything to do with age (although that was what the teachers said, this was in the 80s).

KLou111 · 12/11/2010 15:36

Hi all (waves frantically at all aboard!)

Well, been a bit quiet this end, not a lot to report.

CONGRATS 100years fabulous news.

Just waiting to OV now. Apparently it's my time this weekend so we'll see. 3rd month trying now, hope it's our time.

Agree with the school August thing. As ddas said and I agree, I did think about it at first, but I don't see how academically a child in August can be left behind.

Yes they will be one of the youngest in the year, but surely it's better they get to school earlier rather than have to wait another full year if they are born in September?? Either way, I don't really care, as long as they are healthy and bloody get here asap!!!!

ddas · 12/11/2010 13:40

Congrats 100yrs!!!

Buttonmoon-hope you are feeling better!

passthechoc and spirita-agree that late birthdays not a worry. It did play on my mind to start with but I have a July bday and did very well through school/uni and have a good profession now and a lot of my colleagues also have summer bdays.

kazine not sure if you read my post on the thread you started but I urge you to see your GP prior to TTC if on antidepressants as some can be taken during pregnancy whilst others def not as risk of congenital malformations increased.I know you are worried that he/she will dissuade you from TTC with your history of depression but it's not worth the risk your baby when it is something that can be avoid by being on the right meds.

me and DH have had a couple of days free from swi-we getting a bit worn out with trying every 48 hrs and the days around when I think I ovulated even more lol. Think break did us good as now ready to cont with the 48 hr thing as not confident yet that i'm that accurate at predicting when I ovulate-esp as the opk seemed to have dark lines for 3-4 days so not convinced how well they are at predicting either.

Been feeling quite nauseous yest and today but if calculations are right (doubtful though lol) would only be 6dpo so guessing it's just a bit off a stomach bug but here's hoping!!!!!

wow that was a long post-sorry!!

100years · 12/11/2010 13:16

I'm trying my hardest to not be too pushy on the whole when we do it. I would quite happily jump on him all the time iykwim. But realistically am hoping for an every other day thing, he is so far on top of this, so yay. I have told him I will let him know when I have ovulated so we can do it when we want then so we're not alway DTD just to get pg.

ravenlocks · 12/11/2010 13:01

CD16 for me and just on my second flight back from my business trip ( well waiting for it to get off the ground!). Took my OPKs with me and got a positive yday, not sure about the day before as I forgot to do it. So might be OV'ing as we speak, haven't seen DH since Sunday and won't see him til tonight so not much chance over here. Will clearly jump on him when he gets in!

Hello everyone,

So much to catch up on since I was last here, too many posts I am afraid.

CMD83 I've recently started knitting, it certainly passes the time and keeps you chilled out. Not knitting baby stuff because I figure that's a 3rd trimester thing if I get pg, but am knitting scarves.

Well I went away last weekend with my gorgeous boyfriend and left him there and came back with my gorgeous fiance :o

CD14 for me, no idea when ov day will be as I am a tad irregular with cycles, last month was 35 days, so could be another week before that happens, or could be 2 days! Who knows, just have to keep SWI/DTD

Hi All,
Today is officially the first of my TWW. Need to find a hobby fast to stop me going stir crazy!!!
passthechocs and Sprita My DS will be the youngest in his class when he starts next year, (his birthday is the day of the cut off) I am not worrying too much as I feel he will get on just fine (I hope ) xx

buttonmoon78 · 11/11/2010 14:02

Passthechocs I wouldn't worry too much. Kids are so adaptable that all sorts of major life changes happen together and they're fine.

And just think, if you managed an August baby then you could have a few days/weeks as a lovely family unit then you can have some lovely time with your baby whilst ds if fully occupied at school!

passthechocs · 11/11/2010 13:57

Sprita - its not so much the August baby thing, but DS1 starts school full time next September and having 2 big things happen in such a short space of time may be a little hard. Having said that, we will keep TTC because who knows how long it will take.

Waiting for AF to finish so can get back to trying to work out when am due to ovulate!
