PCOS and TTC! Anyone want to join with me?

AnnieBeansMum · 14/10/2010 15:29

I ladies. I have DD1 (almost 3) and DH and I have begun talking about TTC #2. It took nearly 4 years to conceive DD1 and we finally had success with a course of clomid.

I am now in Canada and have just been referred to a new gynecologist who is apparently the leading expert in PCOS in Canada. So hopefully he will be able to help speed things along. I don't think I could take another 4 year wait.

Does anyone else want to join??

brilaunt can I asked how you managed the weightloss? Teacher too, I've actually had a relaxing 1/2 term.

After my amazing thoughts of a 7 day period I had 2 days not bleeding & been bleeding since again.

highheelsandequations · 27/10/2010 14:37

brilaunt well done you with the weight loss.

Still no news here I'm afraid, CD66 and still no period and no BFP, trying to stay positive and not think too much (although quietly going insane). Giving it till Monday and then if nothing's happened stil going to phone the clinic and ask for help.

brilaunt · 27/10/2010 11:41

Thanks reallygrumpy thanks for thst, it's taken me a year so it's not that brilliant! Have enjoyed wine and treats throughout - this has kept me sane! Hope all is ok with you and everyone else? 8RD how are you getting on? hope you're feeling ok? Anyone got any news/progress? I'm on half term week so I'm symptom spotting and surfing net far too much which is making me uber frantic again!!! Anyway... Good luck everyone. xxx

reallygrumpy · 25/10/2010 19:52

Hi brilaunt that's amazing weight loss. I've had dye and found it uncomfortable but not painful. Good luck!

brilaunt · 25/10/2010 11:34

Hi all, lovely to read thread. I'm on and off here quite often but this one has made me look twice and read about everyone's stories - there is some hope for us PCOSers then!!! We've TTC for 18months now... ive got BMI down from 35 to 29 - still 1st1/2 to go blahhhh! Had preliminary apt with consult... waiting on dye now to check for blockages... really hope that it's lack of ovulation thats causing the delay so that I can get cracking on clomid!Has anyone had dye? is it painful?

Good luck everyone! I havent got around to understanding stats list yet...

Hi pinky yes, it's about £1000 for tests plus clomid but the good thing about going private is that it all happens much more quickly. It is expensive, we were lucky (if that's the right word), an elderly relative of DH's died and left us some money which has covered my treatment so far.

Well AF arrived today (48 day cycle) and I'm having a month off clomid so i've just ordered 50opks from amazon to check if my body manages to ov on it's own this cycle.

Fairygodmother1 · 21/10/2010 19:14

reallygrumpy thats fab about the weight loss. My nausea stopped after being on mets 3 x day for 2 weeks. Gotta say it's really turned my stomach to things. I'm really put off creamy stuff like yoghurt & cream cheese!
Great news about weight loss though!!

Aww tinky know the frustration! Still think 2011 will be our year!!!

pinkypanther · 21/10/2010 10:14

Thank you reallygrumpy that's very helpful. I think the tests plus appointment plus Clomid adds up to £1000 or so? I think we'll be having a very frugal winter...

Am a bit cross with DH at the moment, yesterday I was on day 16 of my cycle (not that that means much with stupid PCOS, but anyway...) and he had been away with work since the weekend. He was supposed to come home early last night but instead went to the pub with his friend, got drunk, and stumbled in late - so no opportunity for SWI last night or this morning. Not sure how he thinks we're going to have any chance of conceiving if he doesn't keep his side of the bargain!

Tinky sorry to hear about your appointment and thyroid issues. I've always had a borderline dodgy thyroid (not sure if it goes with PCOS?) but they never say it's bad enough to treat. Hope you get sorted soon.

tinky19 · 21/10/2010 08:26

obviously they'll be scanning my neck as I don't have a nack!

tinky19 · 21/10/2010 08:26

Morning all.
Have just got back from the doctors and have been told again I can't have Metformin. This time it's because they need to sort out my thyroid first so I'll need to wait another four weeks at least before they retest that. Sadand to have a scan on my nack (any time in Nov/Dec)
I know that they probably have to wait but and in the grand sceme of things it's not that long but it's all just soooooo frustrating.
Grrrrrrr
Going to make healthy breakfast now.

reallygrumpy · 20/10/2010 22:15

Hi all,

congratulations 8RD how exciting!

pinky we've had to go private so I can tell you a bit about the costs... We had to have tests to start with- sperm tests for DH and a scan and the one where they use dye to check tubes aren't blocked for me. I think all the tests came to £400ish but the cons wouldn't have prescribed clomid without the tests. Appt with cons is £190 (I go with a long list of questions!) and 1 cycle of clomid plus monitoring is £400 but if the monitoring shows the clomid is working the you can use it for another 5 cycles without monitoring. Oh, and i've heard different experiences about how many cycles of clomid you can have but my cons will only prescribe a max of 6 because it increases the risk of ovarian cancer. Hope that helps.

I've upped my met to twice a day this week which has given me a horrible upset stomach but has led to a 4 pound weight loss Grin

womanlytales · 20/10/2010 10:33

Congratulations 8RD :)

highheelsandequations · 20/10/2010 10:28

annie sorry about arrival of AF, ((hugs)).

pinky hope you manage to save up quick.

fairy hoping AF is nearly finished so you can start your SWI and fingers crossed your cycle is getting back to normal.

Still waiting for AF to arrive, getting very fed up here, longest cycle in over 18 months, [hsad] Also dreading it arriving and phoning to book my HSG only to find there are no appointments and I have to wait for the next cycle. Plus was researching my FC yesterday and found out the waiting list for IVF is about 3 years so can't help thinking now that after all this waiting if we're then told we need IVF it's another 3 years to wait, don't know if I could stand that. Sorry, whinge over, hope everyone's okay.

Fairygodmother1 · 19/10/2010 19:32

Yay!!! OUR 1st BFP from 8RD!!!!!![hgrin]

I'm waiting for AF to finish so I can get back to SWI. I hope it's in next few days which would show I'm getting my cycle back to normal!!

pinkypanther · 19/10/2010 16:53

Yay! Congratulations 8Rubberduckies! Feel v pleased for you (even though I've only been on the thread a few days...)

Wally - couldn't have been ovulation pain could it? Hope you're feeling ok now.

Annie - bad luck about AF Sad. Onwards and upwards and let this month be the lucky one!

Highheels thanks for the info about the costs your way. I did a little bit of internet research and think that a consultation plus some Clomid might be about £300 so I'd better get saving!

AnnieBeansMum · 19/10/2010 14:48

I knew it....AF caught me last night. Oh well - we'll try again and keep our fingers crossed. Sad

Congratulations 8RD Smile
AnnieBeansMum the most regular my cycles have been is every 3 months. Temp charting has never helped me either but appreciate the link 8RD.
hope you're feeling better wally

highheelsandequations · 19/10/2010 09:41

Congratulations ducks [hsmile]

Pinky I don't know how much consulations cost but do know that IUI costs 270 quid at our clinic and IVF costs 2600. I believe that GPs aren't supposed to prescribe clomid anymore because of the lack of tracking but you hear so many variations on how people are treated it's difficult to know what's what.

wally hope you're feeling better.

wallydog · 19/10/2010 00:25

Congrats 8RD - wonderful news!

I was in A&E yesterday with suspected ovarian cysts! Had sharp pain in left ovary area that would not go away.
Feel better today - just like a grumbling low period pain now! On codeine, although not very strong!!!!
Got appointment with GP on Wed to hopefully be referred for a scan! Hope to get sorted soon! Hmm

Miffles · 18/10/2010 22:12

Congrats 8RD - that's excellent! Yay yay yay! [hgrin] The first of many, I hope. Really pleased.

I'm spotting but really pathetically and have been for a few days. Despite the fact this is generally how AF starts, I'm still trying to convince myself it means something else! Refusing to test, as timings so don't work out...only 3 weeks since last AF.

DP was so impatient he just got on his bike up to Tesco and bought 4 tests. Just done another one and there's definitely a line there Smile Smile Smile. Looks like I'm the first of many positives on this thread, let's hope it sticks Smile

pinkypanther · 18/10/2010 20:25

Aargh! Rubbish for you 8Rubberduckies. I do reckon you are preggers though! Keep us updated Smile

Fairygodmother GP said she couldn't prescribe Clomid herself, only the Assisted Conception Unit could, and they wouldn't see me on the NHS at all, as I have DS. So I guess I'm looking at a private consultation fee if the Met doesn't work. If anyone else has gone private just for a consultation what did it cost? I'm freaking myself out with thoughts of £5000 IVF treatments.

For the purposes of the list, this is my first month of trying. I consider this month a practice run, so no pressure yet!

AnnieBeansMum · 18/10/2010 20:04

Sad Oh no 8RD! Sorry you have to wait even longer for your results! I hate when the tests don't work.
