PCOS and TTC! Anyone want to join with me?

AnnieBeansMum · 14/10/2010 15:29

I ladies. I have DD1 (almost 3) and DH and I have begun talking about TTC #2. It took nearly 4 years to conceive DD1 and we finally had success with a course of clomid.

I am now in Canada and have just been referred to a new gynecologist who is apparently the leading expert in PCOS in Canada. So hopefully he will be able to help speed things along. I don't think I could take another 4 year wait.

Does anyone else want to join??

Coconuts Mine also was confirmed by ultrasound scan as I had not had a period for a year after coming off the pill, along with weight probs etc.
Good luck

boba82 · 03/11/2010 19:11

Hi coconuts I had a lot of symptoms you've mentioned but it was an ultrasound that confirmed my suspicions. Not long to wait then you should know. Good luck.

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 03/11/2010 18:56

I am going for a scan on the 9th so im part way there. I will pop back in when I know more :)

thank you highheels

highheelsandequations · 03/11/2010 16:53

coconuts as far as I know, you need to tick 2 or more boxes of the symptoms of PCOS, as it's a syndrome with a whole host of manifestations. I was diagnosed after an ultrasound showed polycystic ovaries and blood tests showed hormones consistent with PCOS. I was seeing a gynaecologist at the time due to period type pains at strange times and irregular cycles. You might find the verity website gives you some useful information.

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 03/11/2010 13:44

Hi all, Just popping in to ask how to get the diagnosis for PCOS?

I'm pretty convinced I have it and it has been mentioned before.

I have had gynae problems for 5 years now, have had 2 mcs and also have a DD who is 2.7.

Have been TTC#2 since I came off the pill in march but haven't had a period since June.

I get period type pains all the time and have a definite fullness to my right hand side. I'm gojing for an ultrasound on the 9th to investigate the fullness and have had countless bloods taken but not on the correct day as I've had no period.

My LH is more than double my FSH which I know is a factor.

I'm 23, not hugely overweight think I'm only slightly over normal, have no excessive hair or skin problems.

tinky19 · 02/11/2010 11:01

I'm feeling very proud of myself. Joined Weight Watchers this morning. Hate the fact I can't do it on my own but it has worked in the past so hopefully will be the push I need.

Fairygodmother1 · 01/11/2010 19:39

Hi ya,

Just catching up so bear with me -

Pip I've been on o bleeding the whole time I've been on Met & before.

Bri I've had a funny cycle for the past 5-6 months almost bleeding on & of every two weeks for two weeks at a time. It's really getting on my nerves Angry Thought that met would help with that. DR & Cons don't seem that worried - as long as I'm not aenimic then they aint worried. That inuriates me further & feel like I'm hitting my head against a brick wall!!!!!

Boba Welcome. I tried clomid - not successful here, best of luck!!!

Thanks highheels you have given me some hope. I'm quite similar to what you've just described (108 day cycle!) After reading a PCOS book I'm now on loads of supplements and a low GI diet. Hope I'm as lucky as you soon!

highheelsandequations · 01/11/2010 17:14

Miffles been ttc for approximately 18 months (probably a little longer now, started to lose track of real time and just counted cycle days with recent neverending cycle), went to doctors this time last year to ask about clomid. Finally received my magic pills in May. Was given 3 cycles on 25mg, made me ovulate but no baby. I was then told to wait until my next period then schedule HSG. I meanwhile started acupuncture, vitamin b6, vitamin d and calcium, agnus castus and a spoonful of honey with royal jelly and bee pollen every day! Also read various books on alternative remedies and tried to take on board what I could. Have not had a period since 23rd August! Was starting to go mad with a neverending cycle (longest ever) and wondering when I would ever be able to have my HSG and so more clomid. Assumed the cycle was annovulatory as so long but on CD69 (!!) got my BFP. It ties in with some EWCM spotted around CD54-56 so assuming my body actually managed to ovulate on its own!

Sorry if that was long and rambling but hope it gives you lovely ladies some hope. Was starting to research costs of IVF and feeling very down when it actually happened. Don't know if it was the vitamins, herbs, acupuncture, relaxation, coincidence or luck but my new moral is to try anything and everything!

Hope everyone's okay and had a good weekend.
xxxx

pip and tinky I took met initially just before I got pregnant with DD, so had high hopes this time around! However it seemed to actually lengthen my cycles (from 43-49) and I had some irregular bleeding. So I wasn't that happy. Went to GP and she advised me to stick with it, which I did - partly I'm taking it to avoid m/c, so would like to keep on with it if I can.

Last cycle I took soy and have still had some odd bleeding around dc 12-13 or so, but ov'ed on cd23.

As I say it worked well the first time and lots of people have lots of success with it, so tinky it may be good for you. pip sorry you have had woes though, have you gone back to the doc?

tinky you do have to take soy right at the beginning of the cycle, no matter how long it is, so if you have a definite period you could try it. It makes things worse if you take it at any other time, though.

boba82 · 01/11/2010 10:14

Hi miffles, I have a CBFM which I bought before the PCOS diagnosis and have decided to use again this month as have leftover test sticks. I'll let you know how I find it. Did my first one this morning and it came back low so as expected so far.

As for the Clomid I check on google first and the general concensus was to take it at night to avoid side effects. I took it before bed and have no side effects to report, just hope it does the trick!

I'm kind of similar position to you as I have blocked tube but want to try Clomid first before IVF route but will be joining dreaded wait list v soon as it's 2 1/2 years here Sad Good luck for your appointment tomo x

Miffles · 31/10/2010 20:43

Congrats Highheels - wonderful news! Can you remind me what your story was? Was it clomid? Share the hope!!!

Welcome, Boba. There are more people with PCOS than you'd think and we try and support each other. Did you have any symptoms from the clomid? Hopefully you'll be getting busy over the next week!

We're back to the consultant tomorrow. Had some blood tests done so results back. He had said we have the choice of clomid (limited chance of success due to DH's swimmers) or assisted conception (IUI/IVF or ICSI). We're going to ask for some cycles of clomid first, see how that goes.

What is the thinking of OPKs when on clomid with PCOS? I know the party line is don't bother, but what have people actually found? Thanks.

Hope everyone is ok. Fairy - how's the metformin going? And well done brilaunt on the weight loss. Amazing!

tinky19 · 31/10/2010 19:49

highheels, that's wonderful. Smile

highheelsandequations · 31/10/2010 09:44

Thanks grumpy, just need to relax now and try to enjoy it!

reallygrumpy · 30/10/2010 21:56

highheels that's wonderful news, huge congratulations!

highheelsandequations · 30/10/2010 19:54

I just got a BFP, shaking like a leaf and not sure whether to laugh or cry :)

boba82 · 30/10/2010 18:17

Hi ladies could I join you please?

I've recently been diagnosed and have just finished my first round of Clomid 50mg, on CD9 @ moment. Been TTC 18 months with not a whiff of a BFP, cycles all over place etc.

Looking for advice & support as no-one in same boat in RL.

tinky19 · 29/10/2010 17:46

Yes i'm curious too lucy as i'm hoping to start on metformin once my thyriod is sorted.
Also, is their a need to have regular cycles (less then one every 3 months?) for soy to work?

pipistrello · 29/10/2010 15:45

Ooh lucy could you tell me more about metformin buggering things up for you? I started taking it 3 months ago and have been bleeding/spotting almost constantly since then. How did it bugger things up for you and for how long? Did you leave it to sort itself out, or go back to your doctor?

Sorry everyone to crash in with lots of questions. I have been lurking on this thread but hadn't posted.

lucysnowe · 29/10/2010 14:35

Hi all!

LOL I seem to belong to more and more TTC threads these days. Smile

Was diagnosed with PCOS just before I had DD, miscarried in Jan, have been TTC since then. Started on metformin a few months back and it buggered things up for a while but things are back on track now, I hope.

For the last couple of cycles I've been taking soy isoflavones on cd3-7 which have shortened my cycles considerably and I am really really hopeful they will do the trick. (8rubber apologies, cos I was shilling them on the other thread as well, but I am a bit excited about them and feel the need to recommend them to everyone!!)

Anyway, more info here:

P.S - FG1 - I find if I eat massive amounts of fruit like pears, strawbs and pineapple between meals I lose weight much more quickly... oh and drink tons of water. Something to do with metabolism they tell me!? hope this helps. good luck

brilaunt · 28/10/2010 17:43

Hi Fairygodmother1,I've lost weight with Slimming World!!! I've not stuck to it really rigidly but I have been really careful Monday to Friday and then enjoyed nice things on weekend! It's taken me ages but I've haven't felt really deprived of anything. I've got my 2nd apt in clinic end of Dec and desperately want to get my weight down to bmi of 26 before then which means me losing over a stone by Christmas... I'm going to try and bite the bullet and do it! glad you've enjoyed half term... I find hols can be hit and miss! Although I really look forward to them, sometimes having the time off makes me realise how much I want a little one! Oh well, it will come together for us all I'm sure! I dont understand the situation with your period? Has your cycle been a long one?

Take care. ba
