I have become a ridiculous tester in the last couple of months. opk, hpt, ridiculously early tests, finding a range of receptacles which i can get away with, even purchased a perimenopause test (I'm 32) because you could P on it. And it's one where you expect bfn!
Have hidden an empty deodorant lid in bathroom cabinet as new receptacle of choice.

Join me if you are in the 2ww or are a compulsive tester who needs a good fishslap to stay away from the hpts! I failed at the JS thread as I violated almost every rule!

Katy what a nuisance! very shoddy NHS service. Fx for tomorrow for you.

OP posts:
skandi1 · 28/09/2010 22:04

what a PITA!!! Sorry to hear of the delay, Katy. Don't those useless NHS folk know that this is an emergency? Having to hang on overnight is terrible.
xx

KatyCustard · 28/09/2010 21:06

Thanks Skandi. Unfortunately the results hadn't come back when I phoned this evening so will have to ring tomorrow. Grrr.
I'm at work all day but I'll let you know tomorrow evening.

skandi1 · 28/09/2010 16:42

oooh katy that sounds exciting!!

lets us know when you have news.

fingers are crossed for you!

KatyCustard · 28/09/2010 14:11

Just been to dr who sent me down to the hospital for a blood test, and the results will be through by 4 apparently. I explained I was on cucle day 43 or 44 and that we hadn't had sex since the end of August and that HTPs were all negative, but the Dr felt that as there is a (small)chance I could be pregant he needed to rule that out before anything else. I Felt like a right old fraud as I know it'll be negative, TBH at this point I am now desparate for AF to start so that we can just get on with trying again!

KatyCustard · 27/09/2010 22:59

I found that site yesterday. It's a brilliant resource, but I had the same thought Kat, she must have spent even more money than us! Grin

kat2504 · 27/09/2010 21:13

Yeah, she has compared all the brands too! She must have spent a small fortune!

OP posts:
rosieposey · 27/09/2010 21:00

I love that site. I think she is taking it a bit far using tap water and breast milk but hey - all in the name of poas'ing and its pretty informative too.

skandi1 · 27/09/2010 20:53

Broodywantscoilout,

Have you ever been on the website below??

If not, do look. Most helpful when it comes to info on evap lines false positives and negatives for every brand of test out there.

www.peeonastick.com

All I can say is that the lady who runs this site is the Queen of POAS! Hats off to her as its really useful (at least for us obessives Grin ).

Did you know that there is a volcano is Costa Rica called Poas?? Wink

kat2504 · 27/09/2010 20:01

If it is clearly pink it is positive. If you think it is really a lightish grey then it is probably not. Just read that you were trying to compare tests. If you still aren't sure then take a digital perhaps? A clearblue with conception indicator worked for me 4 days early last time. If you wait 48 hours before doing it you should get a clearer result. How many DPO are you?

OP posts:
broodywantcoilout · 27/09/2010 19:57

as this threads quite active im hoping one of you can help me- do u know anything about evap lines? how do u know if its that not a bfp? can evap lines b pink?

kat2504 · 27/09/2010 19:54

When I did conceive I didn't actually need a pregnancy test to tell me that I was pregnant. Obviously I did at least a dozen! But I knew about 4 days early from the symptoms. As we know the symptoms of PMT are quite similar, but I just knew something was different. I wasn't even trying at that time.
I think this month now I have had bfn, I can ease off the ridiculous symptom spotting and pokage of the chest area and start planning when to get the opks out in October. Of course it isn't over until AF arrives so perhaps one more test this week before I drink a bottle of red.....

kat: sorry about the miscarriage. yes, i see your point now, about wanting to know if you had conceived, hadnt thought of that before! you might even have converted me! i've never conceived before, trying for first. but the million dollar question is, as ive never done an early hpt, if i had conceived iwould never have known it. but no, no, no i cant think like that, my mind would explode. i wouldnt be able to handleit. yet, it would offer us an insight into our fertility problems, would it not...who knows, i'll let you know if i succumb. i think it may be beneficial if we were to know whether we could conceive or not...mmmm let me sleep on it. but thanks very much for opening up a differnt but interesting and very useful perspective. like you so rightly said, the end goal is the same yet there are many ways of going about it... you may have started something here...Grin

kat2504 · 27/09/2010 19:39

yeah it is madness. To be honest, much of the time with hpts I'm kinda expecting the bfn. We all know the risk of chemical pregnancies and to be honest, I know at least 2 of us have had a m/c, so no strangers to heartache. I never meant to be pushing the tests, just a light hearted acknowledgement that we are not all quite so good at waiting till af is overdue. I know I couldn't wait a whole week after AF is due. I've not had a CP before so I am not speaking from experience. But I have had a miscarriage and I can say that I would actually like to know if I had conceived. Not everyone would feel that way of course. Maybe I wouldn't if it did happen to me.

ttc is something of a roller coaster, we all go along it in our own ways!

Not all my poas-ing is hpts anyway. Knowing that ov is done with this month, I have at least had two negative results on the perimenopause tests! I need more things to dunk in the cup, perhaps for some non-fertility related ailments. I am also a hypochondriac!!

sorry for the lecture: just as i hit 'post'; i thought who the hell am i! but i cant bear to see you guys put yourself through all that misery. i promise my intentions are truly honourable and i did not mean to offend, if i did then feel free to slap me with a wet fish!

broodywantcoilout · 27/09/2010 19:32

thanks, i do know i shouldnt-and resistd when i fell pregnant with ds and dd. but for whatever reason feel like i just cant help myself!

fedupttcnosuccess · 27/09/2010 19:30

broody: you should be a part time sales rep for poas, as should all these other ladies pushing them, on mn. i'm not saying you are not genuine poasers, just that that way madness lies. just look at rosie and what befell her. i would advocate strongly that you steer clear of such things until you are certain that you are pregnant. early testing only leads to further heartache. think with your head. i am trying to save you ladies from further misery. theres enough to worry about re: ttc. i am in the same boat as you guys, but if i can stop stressing about one more thing that i dont need, then that is the option i will choose, and i urge you to do the same. best of luck x

broodywantcoilout · 27/09/2010 19:25

haha, there's a thread-watiting 2 test- which im always on. tho theres not much waiting involved 4 most of us, perhaps waiting 4 bfp but not so much waiting 2 test!! haha

KatyCustard · 27/09/2010 19:22

I do know what you're saying feduptcc, but for me it's insanely late testing. AF was due on the 14th! So in away I'm even more insane as the chances of me getting a bfp are so remote as to be non existent! Am of to the drs in the morning. The first response I did earlier had a line where the positive would show if it was BFP but it was white, with no hint of pink dye.

broody I've checked this thread about 6 times today (you can tell I don't work Mondays!), it's my new home!

broodywantcoilout · 27/09/2010 19:12

just wanted 2 say im loving this thread!!!
i knew i wasnt the only addict-but so many?! makes me feel so :-) 2 not b alone!
amazon-AMAZING prices!!-yet not good in that u can do many tests a day...and not feel one bit guilty....tho feel a wee bit silly!

fedupttcnosuccess · 27/09/2010 19:07

Rosie:soooo sorry for your negative hpts. Seriously would have been gutted. Cannot applaud you enough for the way you are so optimistic and have taken it in your stride. Very very well done you. Hope that there is some justice in this, and that when you DO get your next BFP it is for keeps and not just for heartache. Thank goodness for your beautiful family who you gain strength from. Thank you so very much for sharing your wisdom and experience. I shall try and put into practice all that you have suggested and keep my fingers crossed, and try to remain positive.
We have lots of tests conducted, but they have all pointed towards 'normal': whatever that may be. therefore the doctors have diagnosed unexplained infertility. Realistically speaking, if nothing improves then we will be pursuing ivf privately in the new year. although even that is not without its own set of perils. i'll join you on the cbfm thread, it's nice and cosy there, all for one, one for all xxx
katy custard, kat and lola: listen and learn... the problems of early testing have just surfaced with poor Rosie, now step back from the tests and leave well alone, until at least a week after af is due. unless you are as strong as dear Rosie and able to handle a chemical pregnancy. personally, I don't think i could be brave enough to deal with that...oh well, horses for courses, you have been warned....xxxx

Lola78 · 27/09/2010 18:24

Katycustard sounds like we are going through the same thing. Was due on 25th Sep (sat) and so far no serious positives on hpt. Totally unheard of for me to be late, am always spot on 30/31 day cycle. Keep feeling as though AF is gonna arrive any minute but she doesn't show herself. Very achey AF type pains in lower tum and back,

Did test this morn and was a very faint positive on Tesco hpt but it really was hardly there. Gonna leave it couple of days and try hpt again - clear blue this time. Maybe the words Not Pregnant might stop me POAS!!

kat2504 · 27/09/2010 18:17

Rosie so sorry to hear it didn't work out. Hope it doesn't take you too long to get another bfp and that it sticks next time. You're right about the perils of early testing but it is hard to resist though. Apparently 50 percent of conceptions end up this way before AF is due though. Still, must be a hard disappointment.

I did a test today -bfn, so think my luck might be out for this month.

I think you should probably be trying the day of the smiley face and the next two days and the two days before, but obviously you don't know exactly when the two days before are!

OP posts:
KatyCustard · 27/09/2010 15:42

Rosieposy I'm sorry it didn't work out for you. Baby dust for next month (that goes for everyone Smile).

Skandi1 I have a 6 year old dd who we had without even trying, and we thought we'd be totally relaxed second time around. Having been wasting loads of money in boots I've
just ordered on amazon today. However just had a moment of weakness when I nipped into boots for some calpol for DD, and I came out with a twin pack first response. Blush I really don't know why I do it myself. My head knows that on CD 44 I'm NOT going to get a positive. But the test is just sitting there, and I know I'm going to do it. I was just joking before about being addicted, but I seriously think I am. Am off to doctors tomorrow to find out exactly what's up.

skandi1 · 27/09/2010 10:43

Ah ha! Goes to prove that I have always known when I ovulated (thats me justifying all my POAS purchases.....).

Thanks Rosieposie.

Guess some more BD later just to be sure and then 2WW....

I didn't have any symptoms at all with DD so I'll have to wait to test. Well actually I had one but only in hindsight. And its a strange one too so am a bit Blush but here goes.... I felt "juicy" about a week before af was due (I guess a week after ovulation as I'm a 28 day girl). And "juicy" as in firm all over. Not to touch but an internal sensation in me. Particularly in my bum area. Kept touching it as I had this idea it was a bit JLoesque. Odd I know and I didn't think it was a pregnancy symptom until after I tested positive.

Not holding out much hope tho as there is no way it will happen so quickly again. particularly as I had an EM cs with DD and was told it could be more difficult getting pregnant again.

Oh well may as well try some symptom spotting.
