Time for us to move home again ladies!

OP posts:
AnytimeNOW · 20/10/2010 11:17

So sorry Keziah so unfair that you GP did that...I'm sure most of us have suffered depression at some point in or lives! and just because you did the sensible thing and sort help, it comes back to bite you in the bum! just wrong!Angry hope you have lots of support around you X.

Thanks KC you have posted some fantastic info on here, a help to all I thinkSmile.

Went to see my GP today for blood results.
He said all was normal...so I asked for a breakdown, he wasn't keen but told me...

FSH 6.8
LH 16.1
PROG10.9 (mc cycle so knew it would be low)
Didn't tell me the rest but said all ok?.

He said he had discussed me with the other GP's and has agreed to refer me to the recurrent miscarriage clinic in Liverpool.

Not for fertility as such but to find out if I have a medical issue?...more bloods to be taken next week for Lupus, dp sperm results due back today as wellHmm.

So now just need to wait for gyna appointment...till then guess dp will need to keep his pants on!!!.

Hope everybody is doing ok...X

P.S changed my mame, was LJG before.

Will re-post list with my new name.

KnackeredCow · 20/10/2010 09:57

Oh Keziah, hun. I am so, so sorry to hear your news. That's devastating. Sad

I don't understand why GP had to tell the FC? I have a history of depression, hence the psychotherapy, but my GP isn't going to tell the FC as they don't commence fertility treatment until there's a full recovery. As she said to me, it's natural for a woman who wants a baby to feel down and sometimes this can develop into depression to which you can be more susceptible if you've been ill before. It is a chicken and an egg scenario. Her advice was not to say anything to FC, and given that, I assume she won't divulge.

I am wondering what your GP's motivation is for telling them? As NHS treatment is still funded by the PCTs then there is no financial benefit to the GP, which there might be when we move to GP commissioning.

I am wondering whether you might need a solicitor on this one. Not sure if it could be challenged under the Human Rights Act or something like that? I'm wondering if Fedup is lurking as I believe she's a lawyer / QC?

I would certainly raise a complaint to your GP and then move Practice.

Just a question, could you afford to go privately and would they treat in that scenario? If cost is preventative, is egg share an option? I am not sure what your personal feelings are on donation, but my local FC (and many others) offer it if the woman is producing healthy eggs. My FC charges £665 per cycle of IVF / ICSI if you egg share.

I'm really sorry Keziah. Nothing anybody can say will make it any better. But just remember you DO deserve a baby. Please try not to give up hope.

We'll miss you but I understand that you need a break. I really do hope they over-rule the decision and you do get your cycle in January.

Take care

xxxxx

ovumahead · 20/10/2010 07:05

Hi all,

Can I join you please? I've just ordered a CBFM from Amazon, it will arrive soon I hope! We've got a very small window in which to TTC #2 (before January) otherwise I'll have to wait until I've got a new job in the middle of next year to ensure I get maternity pay... No pressure then!!!

Hoping you lovely ladies will be able to offer me plenty of advice about the CBFM! Really intrigued to see if I'm actually ovulating or not!!

Conceived quickly last time, but I was 27 and had just come off the pill which I know can make some people super fertile. I'm now 30, super stressed and quite fat! Sad Blush

Keziahhopes · 20/10/2010 00:48

Hi - was due to have first injection of ICSI today, as male factors stopping us getting pregnant ... gp blocked it literally at last minute - ie we turned up at clinic to be told "not allowed to treat you" - and incidentially even if this is overruled it will not be January before any treatment can happen.

Why - cos of my mental health. Sad Sad - in the past.

So can't concieve naturally - years of trying proven this and now hopes shattered. If I was an alcoholic, a single 38 year old (apologies if this applies to anyone) or in a same sex relationship I would not be discriminated against (unless gp knew about alcohol intake I guess) and could have treatment privately or on nhs. Not me, I don't deserve it.

Therefoer I cannot be on this board anymore - as I cannot conceive, however good I think the CBFM is. All the best to those of you just starting out ttc and for those who have been here that much longer, I really hope you get what you desire xxx

notnearlyasblondasiwas · 19/10/2010 19:36

Hi everyone can I join you? I am 33 and we are trying to conceive number 2, we have a 1 year old daughter. Periods only re-started after I stopped breast feeding when DD was around 7 months, so have had 5 months of anything from 18 days to 40. Am on my first cycle with clearblue and have had a high since day 8 and now on day 18. Am hoping that I am ovulating but who knows! This is our first month trying but we have to be targeted as to when we "try" as we are living with my mother at the moment whilst we renovate, and she never goes out!

Anyway, blah blah about me, hope we are all on the bus soon

KnackeredCow · 19/10/2010 14:03

Hi All

Will post properly in a bit, just wanted to respond to EmmaC

Most GPs don't know what tests should be done and will order basic endocrinology tests and won't specify the days on which they should be done, which means the FC will refuse the referral (as I have discovered). You'll need to be assertive. I booked myself in for the correct day and asked the HCA to confirm that progesterone had been ordered (which she did), but in actual fact it hadn't. HCAs aren't medically qualified and DH and I suspect she didn't understand what was being asked. If I'd had the nurse, she's have checked with Dr and they'd have noticed the omission on the blood forms.

The second problem is actually getting booked in with the nurse on the day you need the tests done - the nurse at our practice was full so my repeats are being done by a doctor tomorrow before surgery.

It's the endocrinology tests that need done on specific days. So here goes (got DH to explain this to me). The minimum endocrinology tests they need to do are:

TSH - to show that you do not have hypo or hyper thyroidism

Prolactin - high levels inhibit ovulation.

Progesterone - should be done 7dpo when this hormone peaks. Progesterone is released by the corpus luteum after ovulation, so if you haven't ov'd you won't have an increased amount. A level >30 confirms ovulation. On average a woman ovulates 14 days before AF and therefore the test should be done 7 days before AF is due. Most GPs are unaware of this and as it is called the "day 21 progesterone test" if they do order it on a specific day (unlikely in the experience of a lot of ladies on this board) they'll probably book you in for day 21. This is only the correct day if you have a 28 day cycle. It should be done on day 28 for a woman with a 35 day cycle.

LH / FSH - they will automatically do this with the progesterone test but to confirm that you are not perimenopausal (when levels of FSH rise) it should be done on day 2 - 6 when levels are lowest (if it's needed). I haven't had day 2-6 FSH / LH done, but DH has assured me that's OK as there's nothing to indicate that I am approaching menopause (only 31 and have very regular cycles).

Sorry for huge post, but hope that helps. I wasn't assertive enough which is why I've been recalled. I think I'd change how to approach the consultation if I was to start again. That said, hindsight is always 20/20 Smile

EmmaC29 · 19/10/2010 12:59

Lychees Sorry just read your post, sorry to hear they were done at the wrong time, how frustrating for you Sad. Does these people not understand how much of an emotional rollercoster TTC is and how any set back can be really demotivating [sad}.

Hope you get them done soon and have your results x

EmmaC29 · 19/10/2010 12:49

Hi All Not been on since Saturday, had a spring - well Autumn clear out on Sunday and totally took up my whole day - found things we'd not seen for a good few years!

Welcome Alien06 hope your stay is a short one on here Smile.

Keziahhopes hope your Tonsils are feeling better hun x

MissLolita my husband hasn't a clue when my Peak Days are etc! I don't tell him, i just take the initiative and hope he doesn't object! He said to me ages ago 'don't be telling me its today we've got to do it today etc'! Eek! Its puts him under pressure all that stuff, so i just tell him when AF has arrived and then he knows it didn't happen that month, we do talk about 'nothing happening' though, maybe i should be brave and speak to him tonight about this week, being 'the week' as i'll get my peak on Fri as it hasn't come today and i'm either day 12 or day 15 everymonth! Eeek!

ijg72 and KC When you have tests done at the doctors do they arrange them for certain days in your cycle? I've not been yet, planning on going on Nov, as i've heard there can be a 6-8 week waiting list to be referred for tests, is this correct?

Sorry all for the long waffley post!

Bye, Bye! x

Lychees · 19/10/2010 10:20

Hello All, the NHS really know how to waste money. The public sector doesn't seem to be as careful about its spending as it should be. I had my first set of 21 day bloods done at the wrong time because no one explained to me when they should be done and I didn't research beforehand. And I mentioned to my DR that I had longer than average cycles but he didn't seem to have listened.

Ljg, hope you get some answers soon. And wishing you a speedy physical/emotional recovery.

Keziahhopes · 18/10/2010 19:59

KC - litany of errors in my testing too, to then end up feeling impatient when at the FC!! Though did have all tests, eventually. Didn't mind when in queue for transvanginal scan or HSG as can understand those waits and they are useful tests!!

KC - am loving Downton ... lovely relaxing Sunday night. What a shame they only have 7 episodes made and we have to wait another year for another 7 to be made!!!

ljc - waiting for bloods sounds sensible. I not have any losses but years of nothing made me low - it was when waiting for tests etc that I finally felt things were happening. Big hug for you - it is ok to be low, but sorry that you are (((ljg))))

ljg72 · 18/10/2010 18:36

Thanks KC it's soooo fustrating knowing that the tests will have to be repeated at various stages next month!

Can't risk getting pregnant again until all bloods are done properly...can't emotionally cope with another loss...and DP has been very firm regarding that matter, hit him harder this time.

Hope everybody is ok? sorry haven't been posting much, just not bouncing back as quickly this time...feeling very old.

Sorry for the bleak post...X

KnackeredCow · 18/10/2010 12:18

Hi ljg

Yep my GP admits she got it wrong. The aim with progesterone test is to catch the peak 7dpo. On average most women ovulate 14 days before AF so the test should be done 7 days before AF due (probably not actually on day 21 for a good number of women). So with this in mind, it might help you calculate when you should have the test done. If they are looking at FSH / LH then it should be done on day 2 - 6 of your cycle. DH tells me that here they are trying to establish if a woman is perimenopausal and high levels in the follicular phase would indicate this. This test is less important if cycles are regular. However, I believe it's done if the IVF route is being considered as it is indicative of success rates.

Anyway my blood test was a complete waste of time (and money) to the NHS as it hasn't told them anything wrt my fertility.

So far my GP has managed to waste 1 double and 1 single appointment and 2 expensive tests by firstly using the wrong swab to test for chlamydia and secondly forgetting to ask the lab to check progesterone levels when my blood was taken (the lab doesn't do this automatically so the GP has to actually ask).

If GPs knew the guidelines better and didn't waste so many appointments, and stayed up to date with and read communications from the labs, then think how much money could be saved by the NHS....

ljg72 · 18/10/2010 11:43

Hi KC I also had those tests done on day 21 last week?? I'm no expert but I'm sure it was the wrong day? and also this is a mc cycle...so checking progesterone is going to be totally out as I haven't ovulated!.

And yes I am really good at researching, and go all prepared...but when I'm in with GP it all goes tits up! I clock watch and worry I've gone over my seven minutes!...Hmm

KnackeredCow · 18/10/2010 11:13

Hi Boba - yes have been referred to FC, although first referral got rejected. GP had got confused over blood tests so I'd ended up having FSH / LH done on day 21! Confused I am quite frustrated. There'd been an error filling out the form for endocrinology. Am booked in on Wednesday to have progesterone done.

I will make sure I mention surgical history and peritonitis when appointment finally comes through. Thanks for the advice. It can be difficult to be assertive when in front of doctors - or is it just me who find this?

Anyway, on a lighter note, is anybody as addicted to Downton Abbey as I am? There was an article about it in the TV guide part of The Sunday Times. Apparently the death of the Turkish duke mid-bonk is going to lead into a story of intrigue later in the series. Wondered if anybody had any good guesses as to what might happen?

boba82 · 18/10/2010 10:40

Hi KC. Yes they had asked about my history but didn't think it'd be a problem. My surgery was on bladder and bowel nearly 20 years ago. I totally empathise with the PMA & worrying. I am the bigest worrier ever and it's just not that simple to stop is it. I think you've been referred to FC haven't you? I would mention it to consultant then if they don't ask you.

Morning all

Izzy fingers crossed things sort themselves out for you. Glad you're enjoying acupncture, I miss having it, found it a great stress reliever.

Keziah Hope you're feeling better, can't believe you got tonsilitis again!! Thanks for your advice, I will keep it in mind if the Clomid doesn't work.

Lychees good luck with the BDing, it's exhausting stuff isn't it?!

Hello All Sorry haven't posted for a few days.

We had a lovely weekend - some friends came to stay with their 18 month old. I thought I'd find it a bit stressful, but actually had a really good time.

Welcome to Birdie and Alien. I hope you don't need to stay on this thread too long. Not in a bad way, but I really hope you get your BFPs really soon. Smile

MissLolita PMSL at the rampant rabbit. Grin

Boba Sorry to hear about your blocked tube. Before your HSG had they asked about abdominal / pelvic surgery in the past? I do know that there is a link between surgery and infertility due to the possibility that adhesions (scar tissue that causes your organs to stick together) have formed. The reason why I ask is I had an appendectomy as a child for a perforated appendix. I was really poorly with it and formed an abscess which developed into diffuse peritonitis (infection of the abdominal cavity). I have been suprised that I haven't been asked for a surgical history as yet.... DH tells me I am worrying unnecessarily as he points out it could be him (he hasn't had his SA done yet), but I'm finding it hard not to imagine worst case scenario. I do know I need to improve my PMA, but it's hard when frustration and upset follow AF's monthly arrival.

Anyway, hello to everyone else that I've not specifically mentioned.

Hi Birdie and Alien - waving hello- welcome!

I got my first CBFM peak on Friday morning - possibly the most exciting thing I've seen in a long time (and yes, I should get out more!) Since then we've been, ahem, giving it our best shot, to the extent that my dh started complaining today. Apparently he has feelings and can't just 'perform' or some other rubbish Smile Anyway we've tried our best so now it's a waiting game...

Feeling far more relaxed about the postroom incident - I told a very good friend this afternoon and she beat me hands down as someone in her office had a rampant rabbit delivered in a package that had become open in transit! She claimed it was a joke present but no-one really believed her! Grin

Izzy really interested about acupuncture - I might give it a go

Welcome Birdie and Alien*.

Alien, just switch it on every morning and one day the test stick symbol will be flashing up [normally CD6 in the first month of use]. Then, you'll need to POAS and put it in the CBFM for "analysis". You will normally then need to POAS everyday after that until it records a peak [three bars and an egg will show on the left of the screen when this happens].

We BD at least every other day once I get highs then on both my peaks and my high after the peaks.

Good luck!

Boba, sorry HSG showed a blockage. Hopefully Clomid will kick start and regulate your good side and then you'll have a good chance every other month. It's much better odds than some people have and they have still managed to conceive naturally. Fingers crossed for a BFP for you way before you reach the end of the wait for IVF.

AF is due for me tomorrow and I don't feel any different this month than any other so .... Next cycle we are going to try to BD every other night from the end of my period until the start of the next to cover off all possibilities [phewShock]. Then, if December arrives and we still don't have our BFP then we might be going back to the DR.

Hope everyone has had a nice, relaxing weekend.

Keziahhopes · 17/10/2010 19:29

Hi waves to everyone - sorry not been around, stressful week at work, then got ill again with another bout of tonsillitis etc.

Boba - sorry about blocked tube, but great they already treating you with clomid ... and hope that works for you with your other tube. There may be an up to 2yr delay for IVF at that hospital, but you have the right to be referred to any hospital your PCT will fund - this is what I have had to do, after the consultant wouldn't even offer us clomid despite there being problems enough for our PCT to fund us straight to IVF!! Start injections on Tue. So if you getting clomid, I would think giving that time to work is helpful for you - and then ask about medicated IUI - because if they monitor you during that as long as you ovulate from the other ovary then you have great chance of it working. And if that hospital will not do anything for you and you meet pct criteria for ivf I would seriously look around for which hospitals you could go to with shorter lists!!!

Just a quick post to say hello

Lolita i am feeling all Blush for you, I would have been squirming!! However, as others have said, postroom guys must see all sorts of deliveries - yours won't be the most gossip-worthy to cross his path and in fact there's a high chance he didn't even register what it was. You will remember it way after he has forgotten entirely Smile

boba - sorry you didn't get more positive news at your appointment. However try not to feel down about the ivf referral - it's great that you can get "in the system" now. Chances are you will not need it but at least you know that it's there as a sort of back-up if you get that far.

Well my acupuncture was really good and I also got some good advice about diet and supplements etc. She thought the gp should have listened to my concerns about the luteal phase since short LP can be caused by lack of progesterone, so it's not as simple as saying, well length of LP doesn't natter because it's all down to progesterone. If that makes sense. Anyway she thinks she can help, the acupuncture itself was very relaxing and energising too iykwim, and I'm going again next week (she suggested twice a month). That was in day 9, then coincidentally on cd10 the CBFM went up to high - which is early for me, but could be good news seeing as my problem was ovulating on day 18/26. Trying not to get too excited because last month it did stay on high for ages so I could still ov late, but I think it's a good sign so far. Fx for a peak at a "normal" time if the month!

Have a good weekend everyone! x

Hi All, Welcome Birdie hopefully your stay on this forum will be a short one in a good way [smile).

MissyRaines my hubby works shifts and so I pray every month the special days don't land on his 'late shift' such a pain!! My monitor has been showing high since day 6 but as i ov on either day 12 or 15 (it varies each month) today, day 9 could be an important day!

Miss Lolita glad its a little bit more bearable at work, you just dont want everyone knowing your business do you x

I'm really hoping its day 12 for me this month, as day 15 will be Fri of next week and we're at a wedding 2hrs away in the morning, so the chances of getting on it Saturday night are going to be very slim after a 2hr drive back home late at night and a 6.45am get up for my DH on the Sun! Arrgghh!

xx
