The 'rules' from our Just Shagging Originator

Maintain a relaxed attitude at all times - drink if you want too, especially on your birthday. Thread precedent dictates if you drink to excess you will get a BFP (but not recommended)

Covet thy husband and enjoy every minute. Shag at ever opportunity - shag-capes and awesome superpowers optional.

Resist the lure of ovulation predictor kits, Taking Control of Your Fertility and the dreaded First Repsonse. Knowing where you are in your cycle is entirely permissible though!

Going to the doctor is permitted if you've had a stupidly long cycle but beware of the dildo-cam-scan.

Keep acronmyage to a minimum! EWCM is now to be referred to as 'pant snot'.

Keep us up to date with gossip!

***

Although all most of these rules are well and truely broken!! But we try to chill - honest

Sorry to hear that vallinna. I posted another thread and have spent more of the day googling than I should have done and I've started to come across other people like you (and possibly me) - PCOS with no other significant symptoms.

I'm just going to go in there and stamp and cry until they give me Clomid, I reckon.

Let us know what happens when that arse of a nurse calls back.

vallinnapod · 23/09/2010 13:58

Oh Brassica, what a mess. I hate how you can't get hold of doctors directly. My DH got JIAR results over the phone with the "Fine for any treatment" line but failing to mention low sperm motility. Fecking twats.

Today's dildocam showed no real change...nurses will ring me later as to what next. Arses.

Takethat - I am as normal as they come in terms of weight, body hair and hormone levels but still have PCOS.

takethatlady · 23/09/2010 13:55

Oh brassica WTF is it with fertility doctors? And normal doctors for that matter? I'm dreading tomorrow. There's a really nice doctor at our surgery who was so lovely to me over the phone after the mc, but one of the other doctors treats you like a total time waster. I can't remember either of their names as I hardly ever go so it's pot luck who I'll end up with tomorrow.

Hope you get those results back today.

Yeah, maybe the thyroid thing is it, though again I don't really have any other symptoms. Will bear it in mind as another thing to ask them about. Might as well badger them into hearing me with as much medical info as I can get my hands on!

BrassicaBabe · 23/09/2010 13:40

Oh, the medical professionals in my life get better....!

DH had JIAR test last Wednesday. It's too much to hope for that they would ring us when the results are in. So I rang them and booked an appointment. The receptionist confirmed that the results were in.

The GP calls DH today along the lines of "what can I do for you" Hmm. Apparently the results weren't in and told DH to call again next week HmmHmm.

So I call back. Ask them if the results are available. They are. And ask surgery to deal.

They call DH back and make a fecking telephone appointment for Monday!!! HmmHmmHmm

Ridiculous! I ring then back again, tell them it's not good enough. I don't mind mistakes happening, but DH and I are not going to wait until Monday just because they've made one!

Now the GP is out on rounds and they've left a message asking for her to call back today.

Of course it all has to be done by telephone tennis because they can't speak directly to me. And DH like most men is fecking laid back and will take as gospel whatever he's told. Bless him, but Angry!

Ok. Rant over. Fecking incompetents!

What about underactive thyroid taketat? A friend was recently investigated for AF all over the place, tiredness etc. They looked into PCOS and decided in underactive thyroid in the end.

Good luck with dildocam vallinna. I totally get why you'd think of going straight for IVF. As much as I've carried on drinking and working and living my life while ttc, I really do feel my life has been on hold for six months. There's only so many times you can tell yourself 'this might be the last time I get to do x, y and z'. When you've done everything for the last time 100 times it starts to get old, doesn't it?

Didn't know you could add friends on FF brassica. I'll add you. I'm with you on ignorance not being bliss - the month before I tracked my cycles I didn't know what the hell was going on and I was a monster raving lunatic.

Wish I'd gone to the docs this morning because I can't wait until tomorrow. Can't really find anything it could be but PCOS and I'm not overweight, my BMI is 22, I don't have hair anywhere it shouldn't be, etc, and I was tested for diabetes at a routine medical check a couple of years ago and there's no sign of raised insulin levels.

Got to stop wallowing and start working!

vallinnapod · 23/09/2010 11:51

Brassica - the complete bitch attitude assertiveness is something I have learned is INVALUBLE. You really need to know all your options and possible outcomes. I am genuinely gobsmacked at the 'ignorance' of fertility clinics bearing in mind the emotionally sensitive condition they are treating.

I am glad you have some peace of mind!

I will rant report back after my scan (provided I don't need to post bail fist Wink)

BrassicaBabe · 23/09/2010 11:41

I was beginning to think we'd lost you vallinna. I can understand your thoughts on going straight to IVF. All of these little appointments here and there must really fecking add up!

takaethat I think FF helps keep my obession in check. I have to know what's going on. Ignorance is def not bliss! (add me as a friend if you fancy Smile)

Well I've spoken to Mr Consultant. Soooo much nicer and easier to communicate with than Mrs Fuck Off Receptionist.

My progesterone level off clomid was 31. Quite acceptable. My level on clomid was 19 and classed as low. He suggested upping my clomid from 50mg to 100mg. He's also going to send me more forms for blood tests next month.

He's quite lovely and plyable, biddable, easily suggestive, happy to help. But I do wonder what would happen if I wasn't on their case. I'm pretty sure they would just leave me to it. It's not fair for others who have a quieter more trusting personailty. They are losing out.

Already thinking ahead to cycle #8. Are you with me viroids?! Or I have driven you all mental with my 2WW.

Fingers crossed for a couple of BFPs soon.

vallinnapod · 23/09/2010 11:25

Cor, tell you what - this thread is a bitch to catch up on if you let it slide for a couple of days! Grin

Hope all is well, sort of skim read so my apologies for not keeping up to date

Miffles - I have dildocam today... am wondering if they will let me in after my Monday rant Blush plus I followed it up by telling them there was no way I was paying for that scan Blush Blush oh, well....twats.

Hey brassica - despite being queen of the dildocam and one cycle of clomid down I'm not sure I can help with your other thread query. Because the dildocams had shown bugger all was happening I didn't really pay any attention to my blood test results (which I am assuming showed I didn't ovulate).

Not sure what I am going to do if today shows no more progress. Think I will ask to take 10mg of Letrozole (as opposed to the 5mg I am on). This will use up all the Letrozole I have left. If that doesn't work then I am going to have to go down injection route Shock

Not sure I can mention this here but am really close to just saying sod it and going for IVF because it will actually be cheaper than slogging away as we are.

takethatlady · 23/09/2010 11:05

Also, FF has added 3 years to my age, randomly. Grrrrrrrrrrr.

takethatlady · 23/09/2010 11:02

Aw, have a nice time with DH. I've just made up three months of charts from memory, the bits I've written down, and imagination on FF. Going to print 'em out and take them to the doctors tomorrow and try to make them believe my body is a wreck.

FF believes I ovulated when I think I did for this month, but it's still weird that my temperatures are over half a degree lower than they were last month.

I'd better do some work now instead of pissing about on google/MN/FF, breaking all the JS rules :)

BrassicaBabe · 23/09/2010 10:02

I'm working from home too today. Just doing enough so that they know I'm here. But wallowing in The Pit at the same time. Will nip off and spend a few hours with DH soon for some company

OP posts:
takethatlady · 23/09/2010 09:32

brassica sorry to say it but yes, it looks like it to me Sad. But it does look like you ovulated, too, which has got to be good news. Hopefully Mr Consultant will not be such an arsehole as Mrs Fuck Off Receptionist and you'll get some clearer answers today.

I haven't done my charts online but I may do it today so I have something to take to the doctors. May make up some temps for a couple of cycles ago, just to make it more convincing. I'm hoping they'll put me on Clomid too.

I'm working from home today. Wish it was Friday so I could just get hammered.

BrassicaBabe · 23/09/2010 09:19

I'll join you lot in a sneaky GnT, vodka, wine, pimms. Not fussy today!!

I've just call the consultant's witch secretary again. "Are you the same Mrs Brassica who rang yesterday? I'll pass the message on when I see Mr Consultant" "When will you see Mr Consultant" "Lunch time today". Well you could have fucking told me about that yesterday eh bitch?!

Hope Mr Brassica's JIAR results are okay today too.

takethat would you agree that AF looks imminent? I'm on a 26 day cycle. My Chart

OP posts:
takethatlady · 23/09/2010 08:58

Congrats on JSing josie, let's hope this is the beginning of more carefree shagging to come :)

Sorry for AF nervous and for your body mucking you about too. Sometimes ttcing is like a sick joke.

Yep, I'm charting brassica, though I've let it go a bit this month. I've been ttc for six months now, though I'm still only in cycle 4 because of fecking body. Waiting a minimum of 5 weeks just to ovulate is enough to drive anyone nuts though, in my defence. Don't worry about feeling glad you're not down here on your own - I'm on here to find other nutters going through the same thing and I'm glad I found you! Wink

Haven't been to the doctors yet nervous but if the-one-who-can't-be-named doesn't turn up today I'm going tomorrow. Just got to try to get them to take me seriously - I know they're going to say that I've come off the pill and had a miscarriage so things are bound to be all over the place. But I know this isn't normal. Plus because they wouldn't believe my chart they thought I was 7 weeks pregnant and having a full-on miscarriage when I know I was only 4 and it was a chemical pregnancy, so is much less likely to have buggered up my cycle.

Thing is, even if I do conceive I'm likely to have more chemical pregnancies because I'm releasing 'geriatric' eggs into an 'impoverished' womb. Nice, the things you find on google.

nervous have a G&T for me. Actually I hate gin so make it a vodka and diet coke. And make sure it's a double. 9.30am is a perfectly reasonable time to drink in my book, especially if your period has arrived!

BrassicaBabe · 23/09/2010 08:55

Wooo-hooo for the good sex joise. Glad you are back in the saddle Grin

I feel your pain nervous. I'm 37 (and a half!)

cross posted again! Thanks, but I'm not holding out much hope it has to be said :( It was probably a ridiculous thought anyway - I'm 36 and in my first month of TTC, and as for the ridiculous notion of a holiday baby - pah Hmm. Who was I trying to kid???

JosieSmith1 · 23/09/2010 08:44

Morning, just quickly popping on before I head off to Durham Prison (for a visit, not being chucked in!) Grin

Tooth still horrendously sore, haven't slept for 4 days, gonna bite the bullet and go to the dentist... if it doesn't stop by Monday Blush

Good good news on the JSing front, had major breakthrough last night and it was gooood!!! GrinBlush All it took was a flash of my bare arse Grin and he said he just couldn't control himself! It felt so good to do it without thinking about getting pg. Far too early so was just good old fashioned JSing Grin

Will catch up properly later

NervousNelly · 23/09/2010 08:44

Cross posted brassica. I think the charting is allowed, and given I'm no spring chicken I think I will be following you down that route asap. Though I won't give up on the JS spirit Wink

BrassicaBabe · 23/09/2010 08:41

Still fingers crossed for implantation bleeding nervous

OP posts:
NervousNelly · 23/09/2010 08:38

takethat and eskarina I believe it stands for Evil Red Tide of Doom Shock. Not sure that there's an acronym I actually "like" as they are all a bit weird, but for some reason no-one on MN seems to just say period. At least ERTD has a bit of humour to it, given how annoyed we all are when it turns up! I find AF a bit cringe-making Blush

Yes I do have the touchpad and suspect it's that, perhaps the backspace was because my cursor was hovering over the back button on my browser. It drives me mad Angry.

takethat no wonder you are frustrated. Apologies but I can't remember if you've had any investigations into your irregular cycles so far? It does sound like it's worth following up. It's scary when your body doesn't behave as it's supposed to! I think it was Vallinna (but apologies if I'm mis-quoting) who was to be seen recently poking her stomach and shouting at her uterus to work Confused. All gets a bit mental.

On the mental note, I think mine is over for another month :(. Having had regular periods for as long as I can remember, this one has fucked about - in the first real month of TTC, typical. Stupid body. I'm not quite sure if I'm at CD1 yet, but certainly was blood when I wiped this morning (waaaay TMI, sorry). This on/off has been going on since Sunday. Not in the normal pattern either. In a normal month I'd have expected brown spotting to have started yesterday, with full period starting on Sunday (ie tampon needed). This month it started on Sunday, a week before I was due; and has been very on and off, and generally pinker, hence my wondering if it was implantation. Looks like no, just my ERTD AF fecking period. Oh well.....wonder if the bar sells gin at 9.30 Hmm

BrassicaBabe · 23/09/2010 08:30

Sorry you are also in the pit of doom takethat. (Sorry, I can't help taking some comfort that I'm not down here on my own). In the words of scary atm I think you need to get yourself to the docs. Maybe the pill was hiding some underlying condition? PCOS or the like? Sorry this is driving you mad too. Hang in there.

I think ERTD is Evil Red Tide of Doom or the like - AF.

Well my temps dipped classically today. (This is my first month charting) This means that the progesterone levels have significantly dropped and is apparently the cause of PMT. So I'm convinced that it's game over for this month too. I believe takethat and I are charting. This is serious rule breaking Wink. But as I'm about to enter TTC month 8 and takethat is not far behind me I think we can be excused Grin

OP posts:
takethatlady · 23/09/2010 08:16

Hey all,

I don't know what ERTD stands for either eskarina and I've always wondered. My usual trick of googling it doesn't work either.

nervous, thanks for the discount! I'll shop here again!

Good luck calling the doctors today brassica. I hope the bitchy receptionist got the reading wrong because she was too busy and important to do her job. What a cow.

We seem to be having a parallel 2ww experience this time, though stressful for different reasons. I cried at work yesterday and then again when I got home. Starting to lose the energy to keep things in perspective. My body certainly is playing silly buggers miffles. The NHS website says that it can take up to six months for your body to settle into regular cycles after coming off the pill. It's been six months for me now, and my cycle lengths have been 32, 47, 51 and now I'm on day 37 and I don't even know if I've ovulated.

Plus the NHS website says that in adolescence periods should be regular after a couple of years. I had periods for four years before going on the pill and they were all over the shop - 4-10 weeks apart (usually nearer 10), and so heavy that when I was 16 I flooded my (white) jeans within an hour of getting to school and had to go home and change. I had no periods at all on my pill for 9 out of the 11 years I was on it so I practically forgot about it, and my mum put it all down to adolescent irregularity at the time.

So now I'm pretty convinced there's a problem. And I'm fucked off about it. I'm sick of waiting 7 weeks to get a period and having hardly any ovulation times to get pregnant. I'm fucked off I had a miscarriage and that having long cycles makes that much more likely to happen again. And I'm pissed off that I could have had all this sorted out when I was 16 and not waited until I'm 28. I know it's not the end of the world but if I could just have regular four week cycles at least I'd feel I had a chance. And even though DH is an absolute star and this would never even occur to him, I hate it that it's my body causing the problems because I feel like I'm letting him down.

Rant over. Just finding it increasingly difficult that I don't feel I even have a fair chance of conceiving. I know people are in worse situations than me, and that this is probably fixable. Angry

Eskarina · 23/09/2010 07:32

Sorry you're having problems with the netbook Nelly Does it have a touch pad just below the keyboard? My laptop does and I find that I often catch the pad with the edge of my palm and it jumps the writing to wherever the cursor is. V V annoying!
What does ERTD stand for? I can guess what it refers to, but it sounds much more evil ominous than AF!
Enjoy the end of your holiday.
Brassica good luck with getting anywhere with the consultant today.

AF that never was seems to have disappeared again. As I don't appear to be pg this time round I want it to get on with it quickly and go away so we can start trying again.

NervousNelly · 22/09/2010 22:37

Right, first off, I'm not sure if it's PMT or genuine anger, but I've nearly thrown my netbook across the room. I had just written a massive long reply to you all, and suddenly it went pageback pageback pageback to the main menu. It has this new "feature" when I'm typing that will cause it to suddenly imagine I've given it an instruction to jump 5 lines above and start typing in the middle of a word I wrote 5 minutes ago. Any ideas?????? F*cking thing.

Right - and breathe..... onto more interesting matters!

Brassica I think I'm turning mental for lack of anything else to do. I read Shopaholic cover to cover yesterday afternoon and am now on page 528 of the second in the Millenium trilogy today. Normal service will resume next month, when I'm back at work grumble grumble. Hope you get some good advice on your other thread! Oh though just saw your last post, can't really offer words of wisdom but you aren't quite due so still time isn't there? Fingers crossed for you.

thanks milano - at least I knew that honey was an issue somewhere Wink. Off to google what I really should be thinking about just now (in my maybe I am/maybe I'm not crazy time!)

woo hoo takethat for being my first customer you can have 50% extra free! Grin. Still keeping everything crossed for you - no AF is still a good sign, yes? Or have I missed the point somewhere along my self obsessed recent ramblings?

eskarina I don't think so, but dual-personality disorder would explain my current state of mind Confused

Don't worry truffkin had one just for lunch! And half a bottle of red for dinner. Normal service has been resumed! Oh, and in honour of the thread, a shag in between!!! Tip for Josie and all others with seemingly dis-interested OH's, the trick that works for me every time is "can you please rub this moisturiser/after-sun into my back". OK admittedly it's easier with aftersun but any old moisturiser works. OH can't EVER stop at just my back ahem... Grin

miffles back Saturday. . ERTD due Sunday. Hence the madness! I love your justification for mid-week wine though :)

Harder great news about the holiday - can you forgive me for mine now Wink.

Right I'm off to stalk this MN legend that you have referred to, to see why she's so interesting Wink

BrassicaBabe · 22/09/2010 22:03

Yah, boo, sucks for the BFN takethat. My temps increased as they should this month and on paper it looked like ov had taken place. But blood tests seem to say otherwise Hmm

Thanks all for the kind words. PMT seems to have hit (which is a double pisser) and I had a little cry this evening. I very rarely fecking cry! The consultant never rang back. Wonder if the old boot of a secretary gave him my message after trying to give me her medical opinion Hmm I will turn into the bitch from hell tomorrow and demand some answers. Also DH has a telephone appointment with GP for restuls of his JIAR test. I think all of this testing is just getting to me. I'm not sure how to get the mental strength to go through this all again. I have no idea how to chill the feck out!

Miffles I've not had any clomid side effects that I've noticed.

I agree the meerkat woman is slightly scarey Grin
