Hey All

Thanks for the messages. I got given clomid by my GP without even a consultation! I only spoke to him on the phone and he advised I get my 21 day bloods done..when they came back that I hadn't ovulated I rang him again and he prescribed clomid for 2 months but also referred me to a gynaecologist. I think she was surprised I'd been given it so easily!

I don't have PCOS and have always had regular periods so assumed my low progesterone was my only problem. She wants to check DH out too. Highheels what you said makes sense..think she wants the complete picture.

Just frustrating as I wanted to crack on when I know the clomid makes me ovulate!

I've to get day 2 and 21 bloods done next month. I bet I won't ovulate though!

Ah well, going to try and forget this TTC over Christmas.....the stress of it really doesn't help. Maybe next year will be all our years!

xx

confu3ed · 14/12/2010 20:32

Warlin that sounds insane why give you something and then tell you not to take it. But I suppose if there is a prob with your partner then it's a waste of time. My dp's sperm test was done and results back in a month.

Some people do get pg on the month they stop taking clomid, so all is not lost yet. Good luck x

highheelsandequations · 14/12/2010 17:49

warlin my consultant didn't want me taking the clomid until DP had had is semen analysis as he said it's bad for your body to take too much clomid so you want to make sure every cycle has the best possible chance, so if my DPs results had come back showing problems they might have wanted to try something else instead of/as well as the clomid. I know it seems awful waiting (it took more than 6 months for me to get my clomid after first going to GP to ask, and I already had the PCOS diagnosis!) but it is worth getting a complete picture first. Not sure why they gave you the one cycle first though, maybe they wanted to check the clomid does what it's meant to? And yes it is posssible to ovulate after taking clomid for a cycle, I did :) (although it was on CD59!!!)

Waves to everyone else, how are you all?

boba82 · 14/12/2010 15:25

That seems strange warlin but they are the experts. Did they say why they wanted you to stop? It seems strange they let you take it last month without doing these tests then?

confu3ed · 14/12/2010 11:59

Thanks really I do feel old to be trying great to know that there is hope! Sickness is a really good sign, apparently the lack of it was a sign that things were not going right for me when I miscarried last year.

Warlin might try the fish oil as the clomid doesn't seem to be working on it's own for me!! I do the ov tests but don't know if tgey work really as I get positives every month SWI like mad but still no BFP :(

Hi to everyone else x

Warlin · 14/12/2010 11:38

Hi all

I need some advice....

Had my first gynaecologist apt this morning. I have been taking clomid for one month and it seems to have worked in that I ovulated...(yippee). She did a scan on me and all seemed fine there and then she took some swabs. However she wants me to stop the clomid until we get all the results back and until my DH has his sperm analysis done (which can take up to 2 months apparently!).

It's frustrating as I'm keen to keep going with the clomid since it seems to make me ovulate (no pg this month though), but now I am being told to wait for up to another 2 months before going back on it.

Part of me wants to keep taking it anyway...but I know I should prob do as she says.

Do you think that clomid kick starts something and that I might now ovulate without it? She wants me to get my bloods done on day 2 for a general hormones and again on day 21...

I suppose I just need to be patient but I'm also scared they will find something else wrong...I'm hoping my only problem was that I didn't ovulate and that is now fixed...but what if it's not.

And the maternity unit I had to go to was full of couples getting scanned and newborns which didn't help!

Any advice?

Sorry for the rant!

boba82 · 13/12/2010 12:04

warlin I have just been reading the same thing in my PCOS book!

Warlin · 13/12/2010 09:17

Hi all

SNOWBALL
I have just finished my first month on clomid (50mg). I got bloods taken on day 21 last month and this month and have my first apt with a gynaecologist tmw so she will hopefully tell me if it's made a difference. I have been doing the OPKs though and still don't seem to be ovulating. What is Oromone? Do you have PCOS or anything? I haven't heard of that one. I'm going to ask for a scan to see what's going on.
I didn't notice many side effects on the clomid other than hot flushes and being a bit more moody and tearful!

REALLYGRUMPY
Sickness is def a great sign. It must be so exciting to feel that something special is happening inside you..! Good luck!

ALL
I went for to a fertility nutritionist last week and she was saying the most important thing to support ovulation is Omega 3 (and suggested taking fish oil suppliments). She also recommended falxseed to balance hormones. I bought a huge bag and me and DH are taking a spoonful with breakfast. It can't hurt!

highheelsandequations · 11/12/2010 17:08

just popping in to say glad the scan went well really

thereisthesnowball · 10/12/2010 15:48

Clomid!

thereisthesnowball · 10/12/2010 15:47

No mention of scans. I have to take 50mg Clomis for 5 days, wait a few days then take 2mg Oromone for 5 days. Oromone may have another name in English - I live in France. This is for 3 months - if that hasn't worked I book another appt with gynaecologist.

Thanks for the tip about taking it in the evening.

reallygrumpy · 10/12/2010 14:09

Hey snowball what dose of clomid have you been prescribed and are you going to be scanned? There seem to be lots of differences in treatment. As for the clomid, I found it gave me headaches and made me grumpy but the side effects weren't as bad on 50mg as on 100mg. Definitely take it in the eve. Ummm I can't think of anything else...

thereisthesnowball · 10/12/2010 10:03

Hello again - I meant to check back in earlier but have gone from a knee operation under general anaesthetic to the inlaws staying to DD coming down with chickenpox without even a couple of hours in between. Anyway we're under house arrest now so I have a bit of time to tidy MN.

So, what do I need to know about Clomid?

Reallygrumpy - sickness does sounds like a good sign. Fingers crossed for you and Glitterybits and anyone else who is pg, and to everyone else who is trying.

reallygrumpy · 09/12/2010 23:42

Hey all,

confused I'm 37 so 35 is definitely not too old!

glittery love the new festive name Grin. Well I had a scan on Tues and it was fine. Estimated I was 5+5 and could see gestational sac plus yolk sac. I'm going to have another scan in a few weeks but I'm feeling very sick which I'm hoping is a good sign.

confu3ed · 09/12/2010 23:07

Hey Glittery - Like the name! Yes my Mum made me feel great!!! Good luck for Monday!

Warlin - Clomid may not make you ovulate every month. It didn't me on 50mgs and don't know if I am each month now as I get one blood test every 3 months and I had it first month.

God I am going to be 35 soon, is there any hope for me??!!!!

Waves to everyone else x

Fairyontopofthexmastree · 09/12/2010 20:33

Warlin I know I ovulated the 2nd month & cos I did there was no more monitoring. So I don't know if & have since then! So it sisn't work because I didn't get pg!

Warlin · 09/12/2010 15:19

Hi All

Sounds like there are some real good news stories on this thread now! Good luck to all...it's great to see it's worth having hope.

Glitterybits- love the festive name!
I'm confused on the ovulation front. I did my OPK two days ago (day 20) and it was a really strong line...a tiny bit lighter than the test line but the strongest I've ever seen it. Was really encouraged so raced and DtD! Then yest there was no line at all. I'm not sure if this meant I have ovulated but I maybe missed the strongest bit of maybe my levels are up but not quite at ovulation...
I'm going to get my bloods done tmw and have a obs and g apt on Tue so I suppose time will tell. Slightly encouraged though. I'll keep doing the sticks and see.

Fairyonthechristmastree- What do you mean clomid didn't work..? Did you not ovulate or just didn't get pregnant on it? I don't think metformin would work for me as I don't have pcos....I just don't seem to ovulate. I feel your frustration though but keep the chin up. Look at the success we are having on this thread.

Confu3ed....maybe a break is the best thing. Everyone says it happens when you're least expecting it.

DH and me are off to a seminar tonight on eating for conception...will post any good tips tomorrow! DH gets annoyed when I get all down about not ovulating....so he thinks this will help me!!

Anyway hi to everyone!! Congrats and good luck to those pg and babydust to the rest of us! x

Glitterybits · 09/12/2010 14:35

It's Broken with a slightly more Christmassy name! It's been a while so I thought I'd check in and see how you're all doing. Sorry to nonu and confu3ed that the horrible witch got you again. This TTC lark is so fraught with upset. boba Sorry to you too, although you do seem upbeat that things are getting back to normal, which is great. A step in the right direction, if nothing else.

confu3ed I'm sorry for what your Mum said. I'm sure that made you feel a million times better! Shock

highheels Sounds like you've just had to contend with one thing after another. I hope things are a bit less scary now.

grumpy How did it go? I'm hoping no news is good news. x

popsy You sound like a very strong person to have gone through all that!!! It's not a wonder we all think it's going to go wrong occasionally, is it?

Lady By my estimations, I'll be due on August 1st, so very early days yet. I think I'm 6+3 today. Going for a reassurance scan on Monday and absolutely sh*tting myself!

Warlin Any sign of ovulation yet? Sometimes it takes a while for the clomid to get into your system and for the dosage to be accurate, so try not to be too disheartened. I didn't ovulate until day 20, and that was early by my standards.

Waves to stac, snowball, Fairy and anyone else I might have missed.

Fairyontopofthexmastree · 08/12/2010 23:15

Warlin I've just turned 30 & been trying for 3 years! Clomid didn't work & now on 4th month of metformin. Got hosp app on monday!

Pops not long left now girl...

Hey lady long time no hear!!!

Ladybird10 · 08/12/2010 19:22

Hey All

Stac hope af wasn?t to bad, have you not got anything to take for the horrible pains, methanamic acid is really good, don?t know what i would have done without that when i was getting af. It?s so nice to have 9 months off.
I?m on fb, don?t think you have added me though.

Brokenbits i was also terrified of it all going wrong, i still am to be honest, i have days when i think how it could go wrong but i know the chaces are very small. When are you due?

Hey popsy sorry you started to worry, i don?t seem to get on here as much. So excited to meet my little man, wish it would hurry up lol. I also haven?t bought much, we?re going to start doing his room after xmas and buy everything then, wanted to get xmas out the way first.
Glad your glucose test came back clear.

Good luck everyone and stay positive, this time last year i was still plodding along trying to get pg and now a year on i am 23 weeks pregnant. Still scared but happy that i can get pregnant.

xxx

stac14 · 08/12/2010 04:47

quick post, metformin is a drug usually used for diabetes that has been found to help women with pcos. It helps you ovulate. I got bfp while only taking metformin and my princess was 5months yesterday. Will pop bk ltr x

confu3ed · 07/12/2010 21:18

Nonu - Lots of people get pg when taking a break from TTC as the pressure is gone. I was thinking of doing the same myself a couple of months ago, but DP convinced me we should go on. Maybe this month will be your month, fingers crossed x

Warlin - I have no idea what they will do next. I will find out after xmas I guess. I will ask for metformin though and some investigations as I have only had blood tests.

boba82 · 07/12/2010 15:42

confu3ed I know I hate it when people say that, they just don't get it do they?

popsy good luck with the remainder of your pregnancy x

nonu maybe a rest will get you your BFP. x

warlin give it time. I didn't ovulate until CD28 and that's been my fist cycle. I'm hoping for shorter cycle this time!

Warlin · 07/12/2010 10:01

Popsy1- what an awful time you have had but things def look promising for you now. Fingers crossed this time your luck is in. What does metformin do?

I am in my first month on clomid (regular MC but don't seem to ovulate). Day 19 now and no sign on ovulation. Depressing. Not due to go back for another month but want to take a higher dose next month.

Confu3ed- I thought clomid either worked straight away or it doesn't. Will they give you clomid again or what will they try next for you?

Nonu- a break will probably do you go as it does wreck your head all this TTC. At least you already have a child...this is my first and so frustrating that things aren't working properly.

I've just turned 30 and wish I'd tried sooner now!!

nonu · 07/12/2010 08:41

good luck for your scan tommorrow grumpy

i also think that after this cycle might take break from TTC as DH says atleast we have one DD, think about those who are struggling to have one also.....

anyways fingers crossed for all.....
