Hi Ladies

Not so good news for me. I went back to the doc on Fri and Mon and my follicles haven't grown beyond 12mm this month (Day 17). He wants to abandon this cycle and has prescribed me progesterone. He also discovered multiple cysts (PCOS), so I'm now on metformin. He's upped the dose of clomid to 100mg, but because of my age he says this will have to be the last month.

What I'm wondering is whether I should leave it a couple of days before taking the progesterone, just in case the follicle grows (I know I'm probably clutching at straws now). Last time I didn't ovulate until day 20 (although that was with a HCG trigger). It's so disheartening when cycles don't work:(

Lychees - how did the IUI go?

Highheels - I also had a lot of bleeding with my ds and was given additional progesterone (due to borderline levels). I think by 14 weeks you are really in the clear. I know how hard it is to relax after such an experience. Take good care:)

confu3ed · 17/01/2011 22:19

Great news higheels! And thank you for the advice, I have postponed my next scan until a week tomorrow when I should be 71/2 - 8 weeks so should see a heartbeat then.

Wow Popsy not long now!! Are you ready?

Safarimama hope the docs went well!

xx

popsy1 · 17/01/2011 11:17

Great news highheels.

Hi to everyone else hope you are doin well.

I'm 32+ 2 weeks now. It's all getting very close. My consultant has spoken about inducing me at 38 wks so even closer :)

Will post properly when I'm not on my phone.

Xxxx

Stac2011 · 16/01/2011 14:40

fantastic news highheels x

highheelsandequations · 16/01/2011 13:39

confu3ed we didn't see a heartbeat until 6 weeks, and even then the consultant wouldn't confirm it was definitely there until the scan the week later. Try not to be anxious and scared although I know its hard. I suppose the decision about the scan is whether you think it's likely to make you more anxious or give you some reassurance. Hope everything goes well for you.

Warlin I know how frustrating it can be, you just need to keep in mind that all the tests and preparation you're doing now are just making sure your baby has the best possible chances. It took a year from our referral to the FC to getting the BFP but it happened eventually.

Hi safarimama, the ladies here have been lovely to me, hope you get lots of support here on your (hopefully short) journey to a BFP.

We had our appointment at the EPU on Tuesday and everything is still looking good. Midwife was lovely and spent ages looking round with the scan and showing us different things. She couldn't get a good CRL measrurement as pip was trying to curl up but head measurements dated 14+1, exactly the dates I thought. She couldn't find any reason for the spotting, which she said was a good thing, and it seems to have stopped again so fingers crossed that was the last of our scares. Only 5 1/2 weeks to the 20 week scan now!

safarimama · 13/01/2011 05:33

Hi Confu3ed - congratulations on your BFP! It probably is a bit early to see a heartbeat, but I would go back in a week to 10 days as your doc suggests. I had scans every week from 6/7 weeks until 16 weeeks as I bled on-off until about 14 weeks. It's really nerve-racking - I totally understand - I didn't start relaxing until about 24 weeks!! I'm having a HCG trigger shot with my cycles which makes me ovulate regardless, but will ask my doc tomorrow about the follicle size.

So sorry Warlin - that is really frustrating. I can understand why you feel so low. Did you get your af? I would probably try one more month on clomid if you have it (and your doc did prescribe it). Have you been trying for a very long time? It took me a while to convince my DH to have a sperm test, but think it's worth it. You never know until he does whether you both have problems. Take care

confu3ed · 12/01/2011 21:50

Thanks Glittery and yes it would seem that the test indicators are way out. Had an early scan on Monday but they couldn't see a heartbeat, reckon its too early as not yet 6 weeks according to the scan, he suggested I come back in a week to 10 days for another scan and have one on Tuesday but DP thinks we should leave it a bit longer in case we don't see a heartbeat. I am trying not to stress about it but anxious and not sure whether to go to next week's scan or not! I went 12 weeks the last time only to be told that I had miscarried...scared!!

Good luck with the IUI Lychees!

Hi Safarimama. I get my BFP on 100mgs 50 didn't work as I did'nt ovulate on the month I had my bloods done, I am not sure if it makes your follicles bigger or not but it does increase your chances of ovulating.

Warlin will your GP prescribe Clomid? I know that they can especially if they know it works, maybe you should go and explain how anxious you are feeling?

Warlin · 12/01/2011 14:40

Hi All

Just got my blood results and my progesterone level was 10.3 (which means I didn't ovulate). It's so frustrating as the first month I did it it was 3, then I was prescribed clomid and it was 42...then they took me off the clomid until all my results are back (from swabs and have DH seman sample- which he hsan't got round to doing yet) and now it's 10.3. So so so frsutrated.

Can't believe they won't see me again at the hclinic until I have had my rhubella jab and DH seman sample done...getting out of work so difficult, esp for that! I know the problem is me and that I don't ovulate...I just need back on the clomid and it will take months at this rate.

I was presribed 2 months worth by the GP so going to start it again anyway next month (just for one month).

Just so so frustrated as we tried so hard this month and I really thought we were in with a shot.

Anyway sorry for the rant, I'm just really down about it all.

safarimama · 11/01/2011 06:10

Hi Lychees and Warlin

Thanks so much for the advice:). It's reassuring to know my follies are getting big enough.

Clomid certainly affected my cycles - last month I had my shortest cycle (33 days) in about the past 10 years. Before that they were always 60 days plus. I've had bad headaches on clomid, but otherwise I think its made me feel happier:)

Lychees - good luck with you IUI. Let me know how it goes. My doc has told me that if this cycle doesn't work then we could consider an IUI. When is IUI necessary? My DH had a sperm test and had very good results:o, so I'm assuming it's just my erratic ovulation which is the problem.

Warlin - that must be so frustrating. What tests do you need to have? I have read elsewhere that clomid may aggrevate certain conditions, so maybe that's what they are also concerned about? Will keep my fingers crossed that things work out for you. DS wasn't easy - I spent the first 16 weeks on bedrest due to a lot of bleeding. Maybe my body isn't ready yet to go through that again!!

Having a scan again on Friday morning, so will let you know how it goes

x

Lychees · 10/01/2011 16:07

Safarimama, just to let you know that I am having IUI this week and the IVF nurses have been waiting for my follicle to grow to at least 16mm before triggering ovulation [it's taking ages, I'm on CD18 and they still want me to wait until tomorrow night]. Therefore, at 16mm, conception must be possible. Otherwise, I assume they'd make me wait even longer. Hope this offers a bit of reassurance.

Warlin, thanks. Hope things start moving for you soon.

Warlin · 10/01/2011 15:45

Hi Safarimama welcome to our thread and hi Lychees.

I had my first month on clomid last month (50mg day 2-6). I normally have regular 32day cycles but didn't seem to be ovulating. The clomid did make me ovulate but my AF came bang on day 32. I have heard other people say it upsets the length of cycles though, so this is pretty normal. It didn't effect my cycle but Safarimama I would try it one more month on 50mg and then request a 100mg dosage. I think the higher the dosage the more chance it will mess with your cycle.

My cons then took me off clomid (which my GP had prescribed) pending further tests. Really frustrating as it made me ovulate but tthey want to see if I can now ovulate without it. I had my day 21 bloods done and get the results on wed.

Lychee- I have been using OPKS for months and have now stopped as I never had a surge (even with the clomid which made me ovaulate) and it was driving me mad! I was becoming obsessed and since they don't seem to work for some people I have decided not to use them, but to get my day 21 bloods done every month instead.

If I haven't ovulated this month I am going to start the clomid again (its in my cupboard) as I don't want to wait until I see my cons again as I really feel it's wasted months.

I didn't have any side effects on clomid other than hot flushes (and was a bit moody at times!!)

Safarimama, at least you already have a DS and therefore know that your body can ovulate and carry a baby to term....this is my first.

Boba how did the apt go on Friday?

Hope this helps and I'll let you know how I get on Wed.

x

Lychees · 10/01/2011 12:18

Hello,

I'd be quite interested to see the answers to safarimama's question as I have had a similar situation this month [my first cycle of Clomid].

Also, oh knowledgeable Clomid ladies Smile, can Clomid lengthen your cycle? I'm on CD19 and still no +OPK even though I normally surge on CD15/16 or 17. I'm a bit worried.

safarimama · 10/01/2011 11:44

Hi Ladies!!

I hope you don't mind me joining your forum - I really need some friends to help me through this crazy clomid life!!

A little bit about me. I'm blessed to have already conceived one ds 2 years ago (after 4 years of ttc and ovulation problems). We've been trying for the second for about 10 months and I'm now on my second cycle of clomid (50mg, 2-6). The first cycle (50mg, 5-9) I had follicle tracking and they only found one follie at 16mm on Day 19. My Doc gave me an HCG trigger, so I did ovulate, and I got my af 14 days later(:(), but I'm wondering now why my follie was so small so late on in my cycle? I read somewhere that follies need to be 20mm to be viable, but want to trust my doc that he knew what he was doing! Would a higher dose of clomid give me bigger or more follies?

I know 10 months is not long, but I'm kind of desperate as I'm getting old (35) and worry about the risk of Down's and things like that.

Babydust to you all:) x

Glitterybits · 08/01/2011 22:36

Ooh a very belated congratulations confu3ed. That's wonderful news! I'm very happy for you. Lovely way to start the new year.

I wouldn't worry too much about conflicting dates at this point. Those conception indicators are renowned for being inaccurate. My test certainly was given my first scan! I always knew it was a bit dodgy because I knew the exact date of conception, but the Clearblue test had other ideas. Still, does make you wonder about multiples! Grin

confu3ed · 08/01/2011 19:39

Hi Stac and thanks!

Higheels I cannot believe your doctor told you to get fit whilst pregnant when your BMI is as low as it is. Mine is pretty much the same as yours and the doc told me to put on weight! I have stopped the gym though as too tired and don't want anything to go wrong. Had a funny turn whilst shopping today felt really like I was going to pass out and so tired when I got home. The same thing happened yesterday, looks like I am going to have to avoid doing much for a few weeks till this goes away :( annoyed home alone tonight and missing a party, but all for a very good cause!!Is 12 weeks your first midwife visit?

x

highheelsandequations · 07/01/2011 16:26

really glad everything went well with your scan, it's nice when they can give you a reason for the spotting as well instead of it "just being one of those things". How was your booking appointment?

Warlin my main symptoms have been exhaustion, larger breasts (32D --> 34E by 9 weeks), very sore brests (although much better now) and hunger. Bloating and wind too Blush. I've had occassional bouts of nausea but mostly if I've gone too long without food or have got extremely tired. The exhaustion has been the worst, have actually cried to DP on more than one occassion about it, have felt too tired to move from the couch once home from work.

Boba hope your appointment went well.

confu3ed bloating and tiredness are definitely signs. Your fertility consultant will probably do a scan and if I remember correctly, at 6 weeks they could definitely see a yolk sac and saw a flicker next to it that may have been the heartbeat. Definitely should be enough to confirm the pregnancy and check it's in the right place (one of the first things I was worried about). They'll probably give you a scan appointment for 7 or 8 weeks as well when you should definitely see a heartbeat. My GP was even more useless than yours sounds, he told me pregnancy is not an illness, I should make sure I get fit (before getting pg by BMI was around 19-20 and I exercised 4+ times per week Confused) and to wait to see the midwife at 12 weeks to ask any questions! Hope everythins continues to go well for you.

stac nice to see you popping in, I am keeping my positive thinking hat on :)

Enjoy the weekend ladies.
xx

Stac2011 · 07/01/2011 01:44

thought i had already posted Confused i'm on my phone so will post quick and catch up tomorrow. Congrats confu3ed. really how many weeks are you? high i spotted when pg try not to worry. fairy meant to say on fb that clomid can be more effective with met dont understand why they cant give you some. Do you have any you could take? at everyone, hope your all well. Be back tomorrow x

confu3ed · 06/01/2011 20:54

Higheels - Seeing the pregnancy progress sounds amazing! Thanks for the scan tip too. Would still like one as I need to know that there is something there. I am so bloated and tired so if they are signs then fantastic! Best of luck for Tuesday ;)

Really wow, 3cm already how exciting!! Great news that they know what is causing the bleed and chill out loads!!! Good luck for tomorrow a booking appointment makes it sound so real eh?!!!!!

The docs was pretty pointless really I said I had done a test, he took some dates and apart from referring me to the EPU to have my cervix examined not much happened. Apparently my cervix needs checking as I had an op a couple of years ago to remove pre-cancerous cells and they remove part of your cervix which may mean that they have to put a stitch in to hold the pregnancy..nice! He did say to keep my appointment with my fertility consultant on Monday as he will probably do a scan, fingers crossed, I will be 6 weeks +1 then so hopefully will see something! He also told me to try not to worry and referred me to the midwife!!!

Warlin good luck for weds, but you need to remember that clomid doesn't necessarily make you ovulate every month, I know I had one month on 50mgs when I didn't.

Boba good luck for tomorrow :)

boba82 · 06/01/2011 13:27

Hi warlin I go to FC tomorrow so we'll see then. I know it's soo hard to keep thing in perspective!

Warlin · 06/01/2011 11:59

Hi all

Really glad you're scan went ok, you must be relieved. At least you know what the spotting is...just make sure you rest.

highheels have my fingers crossed for you for Tue, but at least if you feel pregnant, that is a good sign. What have your symptoms been?

Confu3ed good luck with the scan, really hope it's ok. Your post made my laugh in relation to the sample...DH has all that ahead of him but at least he can do it in his own home. I got my 21 day bloods done this morning but have to wait until Wed for results. If I haven't ovulated it back on the clomid and will put pressure on DH to get his analysis done. All the waiting is frustrating.

boba what about you? Have you been back at the doc about increasing your dose? It has only been 2 months though, so be patient. Not that I can talk, I have had one month and totally impatient!! Chin up, hopefully we will get there eventually.

boba82 · 06/01/2011 10:25

really glad all ok on your scan, take it easy!

highheels good luck for Tues. x

confu3ed how'd you get on?

reallygrumpy · 06/01/2011 09:54

highheels fingers crossed all is ok at your scan, the waiting is so stressful. Well my scan went ok, the bleeding's due to a small haematoma (0.8cm) behind the placenta and I've been told to take it easy, no lifting DD and no exercising and I'm likely to have more spotting. I'm having another scan a week on Monday and I've got my booking in appt at the hospital tomorrow.

confused I'd echo what highheels about not having a scan too early, although that must be hard given that you're not sure about dates. It has been exciting seeing the foetus growing on the scans, it's now 3cm!

highheelsandequations · 05/01/2011 17:05

really hope everythng goes well with your scan tomorrow, you'll be able to see your LO starting to look more like a baby :) Let us know how you get on.

confu3ed hope you get some good news at the docs. Just one word of advice about early scans, I had one at 5+2 thinking I was further on than that and they couldn't see anything at all so had a bit of a panic, then had repeat at 5+4 when they saw a sac, then at 6 saw yolk sac then at 7 saw heartbeat.. If you can hold out till you're sure you're past 6 weeks (or even longer) I think it'll be more reassuring for you. We've been lucky to see our pip develop from a dot to a baby due to so many scares, seeing the heartbeat for the first time was just amazing (especially after being greeted by a nurse saying "well, it's not looking good is it?")

Managed to get through to EPU on phone today and they've given me an appointment for next Tues. Midwife said it's probably nothing to worry about, especially if I'm still feeling pregnant but unfortunately there's no way to know for sure without taking a look. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

confu3ed · 04/01/2011 22:31

Thanks Warlin :) Hopefully your DH will do the sample soon, my DP also found it hard, apparently aiming for the pot is not much fun! Sorry if TMI but the mental picture I had afterwards was hilarious, and it totally lightened the mood!!!

Higheels seeing doc tomorrow so may find out more and will push for an early scan. I get what you mean about time going slowly, I am taking one day at a time at the moment as really scared of miscarrying again. If your docs are not worried about the spotting that's great, they are after all teh experts! Just stay positive, you are past the 3 months now so doing great!Plus lots of people have spotting for months.

Thanks Really, yes going to ask for a scan tomorrow, plus have a consultant appointment on Monday and I know there is a scanner there so may go even though I have the BFP.

Boba getting af each month is awful, but clomid can and does work, fingers crossed it will be your turn next.

x
