Hiya,

I put August as its a little late for July!

I'm TTC number 4(!)

Due to test on the 15th August but don't think we have much chance this month as its only our first and DH has been ill for a few days and now I've got the bug, so not much romance happening!

So just wonderded if anyone is just starting TTC and wanted to join me?

MadKatz, at least you know when to start POAS! I so wish I had started already so I would know what my body is doing right now!

TMI alert! I had a go at feeling my cervix for the first time in my life yesterday.Shock I am amazed that a) I could find it, b) it is so small! and c) I think I really will be able to tell the difference between, hard/soft and position.

I am hoping that combined with temping, checking CM and using OPK's I will become a fertility guru in no time Smile

MadKatz · 30/08/2010 08:11

Hi all,

I am temping goldmaple, and I do get the shift after ovulation, but its too late by then, which is why I'm thinking CM may be the only way I will be able to know when ovulation's coming up.

Period finished yesterday so looking forward to trying again soon!!

MummyAbroad · 30/08/2010 04:45

hi goldmaple Can you be the designated driver at the hen night and therefore not be able to drink?

lizandlulu I am planning to have a go at temping. I also just got the Taking Charge.. book. Its a great read. Did you sign up for the email lessons on fertilityfriend? They tell you all about temping too.

Nice tip Klou111 Now, where can I get some cheap folic acid?

xxxxxxxxxxxxx

KLou111 · 28/08/2010 18:09

Just been looking on ebay, and a seller called safe_screen (go to advanced search, search by seller) is selling pg strip tests in 5s, 10s, 25s, 30s, 50, 100s, and 500s!!!!

Works out about 18p a test inc delivery!!!

KLou111 · 28/08/2010 15:13

goldmaple, say you're taking antibiotics for a chest infection or something, you can't drink taking them :)

KLou111 · 28/08/2010 15:11

Hi all

Sorry, joined a couple of weeks ago (KatyLou111) and been unable to get on the net. Took last pill yesterday...soooooo excited!!!

WOW, can't believe the prices of those tests. Me n hubs are going on hol the end of September and have stocked up from our local £1 land!! They are £1 for 2, and we bought 3 lots when we saw them, as thought they wouldn't have them for long, but now I know amazon.co.uk have got them so cheap, I don't know what I was worrying about!!!

Just waiting for my last pill period, then we'll take it from there.

It's great reading all your posts, feels like you're not alone especially as we're not telling anyone.....well that is until hubby decided to have a few too many with a friend and turns out they are trying the end of September so will have someone to talk too on the phone.

My mum was a midwife until she retired a couple of years ago so would like to tell her but she'd cluck around like a demented woman, and like some of you have put on here, I couldn't stand the 'are you pregnant yet?' question all the time......too much pressure!!

Anyway, good luck to you all, am hoping I get a BFP by Xmas!!

goldmaple · 28/08/2010 15:09

I am definitely no expert but some people have a slight drop in temp when they ovulate, but usually the temp just goes up for 12-16 days after you ovulate and then comes down before AF. Toni Weschler wrote a great book about it all called 'Taking charge of you fertility'

question for everyone, I have a good friend's hen night next Friday... I won't be drinking but I'm not sure what to say. Any ideas for an excuse? All suggestions welcome!!:)

lizandlulu · 28/08/2010 09:37

is temping where you measure your temperature daily? see i even get that wrong, i thought you got hotter when you ovulated, but according that that fretilityfriends site, it drops?

goldmaple · 28/08/2010 04:36

I must go buy a fancy cup to wee in! :o

Madkatz - have you tried temping? after i got off the pill my cycles were really irregular and it helps predict when you ovulated and when AF is coming...

MummyAbroad · 28/08/2010 00:13

Bingo. ('cept in my world its really peeing in a cup and dunking)

lizandlulu · 27/08/2010 23:13

POAS .....peeing on a stick? Grin

MummyAbroad · 27/08/2010 22:48

cowboylover and catmad

you have admirably strong will power. I'm sure its better for your sanity to do it your way, save yourselves while you can I'm afraid there is no hope for me, I am a POAS addict Grin

To those asking about fertility facts, I recently discovered www.fertilityfriend.com when you sign up they send you email "lessons" to your inbox. Great stuff! I have learned tons, so cowboylover, EWCM means have sex right now!

Have a good weekend everyone! xxx

lizandlulu · 27/08/2010 22:19

hiya catmad, i know what you mean about some of the other places, all you want is abit of advice and you get flamed downGrin it is very friendly over here if you dont mind the gross bitsGrin

i still dont get all this cycle stuff. i mean i know roughly how to tell WHEN i am ovulating but dont really know how long between ovulating and af or anything like that. i thought women were fertile for around 4 days, but my mate said its only 2 days. i have been thinking all day about people who get pregnant by accident and how unlikely it is yet really commonHmm

NervousNelly · 27/08/2010 22:16

cowboylover I'm the same, refusing to buy any tests! if they aren't in the house, I can't be tempted Wink.

Anyway, I'm in the "pre-period" stage today, so clearly not pregnant. This isn't a huge surprise as we didn't have our first unprotected attempt until the day after OV. I've since found a website that categorically says "YOU WILL NOT GET PREGNANT IF YOU HAVE SEX AFTER OVULATION". No come on, say what you really think Shock.

Anyway now that we've made the decision, I can plan better for next month :)

Good luck to all those waiting to pee!

catmad2010 · 27/08/2010 19:17

Hi I'm new to mumsnet too. I've just come off the pill, my husband works away and when he's home I work shifts too so I feel the same way you do...not easy trying to find the right time, especially when they're not here!

I'm a bit scared of forums as ones I've looked at for other things before seem to be a bit opinionated when all I want is advice and support really. Mumsnet seems different so good luck to everyone on here!

cowboylover · 27/08/2010 19:07

I am on purpose not going to get to many tests as I really dont want to keep POAS as I am trying to protect myself from the total feeling of being gutted I get when its a negitive even though I knew I was going to get it!

I am not sure if there will even be a wait this month as had EWCM for the first time on Tuesday so does that mean then I ovulated or did the next day? Didnt get to see my DH till Thursday so does that mean we missed our chance?

MummyAbroad · 27/08/2010 15:29

MadKatz Sorry for you. If AF arrives for me soon I have a the PlanB cheerup package all ready: Wine, Chocolate, Bath Salts, Candle.

GruffaloMama GrinGrinGrin at your DH hiding behind the sofa!

lizanlulu I have only just started with Ov sticks, but plan to use them in combo with temp charting. If I was at the same place in the calendar as you I would be SWIing like mad and repeat testing with Ov sticks as the LH surge is apparently quite hard to catch.

GruffaloMama · 27/08/2010 13:00

CM is cervical mucus thing I guess? Sorry not good at the acronyms thing. Somewhat more appealing than pant snot. I've heard about saliva ferning too but drying out spit and looking at it down a microscope seems even more obsessive than I'm (yet) willing to countenance. (Seriously, whose DP is going to get amorous if you pop into the sitting room saying 'my knickers are snotty my saliva is ferny'??? DH would hide behind the sofa.)

My cycle is always all over the place, but is better now. It used to be anywhere between 34 and 56 days. My GP last time said that as I was diagnosed with PCOS the best idea was just to get to it as there was no telling when I'd ovulate... So lots and lots of getting jiggy. Was easier when we didn't have a toddler Smile. But at least i feel that's taken the pressure off - we know that I am ovulating even if a bit randomly.

MadKatz · 27/08/2010 12:36

lol, gruffalomama re the telling strangers thing.

I find it so much easier talking on here than I do to my own mum, but then we've never had a very good relationship.

So 34 day cycle then a 25 day. Anyone else have up and down cycles and how do you cope with maybe not really knowing when you ovulate, or do you just rely on CM alone?

GruffaloMama · 27/08/2010 11:44

Sorry MadKatz. Non-mumsnet cuddle on its way.

I'm going out to buy some sparkly pee-catcher cups with immediate effect. If it's going to take as long as last time I might as well wee in style. At least the PCOS means I'm not tempted to do the ovulation test things. Guess it's all about the knicker snot. Gross.

Not sure what 2WW means - is it two week wait? I think I ovulated this week but am on a 5-6 week cycle so a while to wait before I can test reliably.

BTW why is it i can quite happily tell total strangers on an internet forum this but not even my mum knows we're trying again?

lizandlulu · 27/08/2010 10:44

Sad for you madkatz, its a horrible feeling isnt it. i did an ovulation test last ngiht as the ovulation calendar says i will be ovulating over this weekend, but the test was negative. so so so frustrated

MadKatz · 27/08/2010 08:41

Morning all,

Period started last night :(

Oh well, here we go again.

MummyAbroad · 27/08/2010 04:27

I'm still learning Smile

Knowledge swap please:

  1. Whats does 2ww mean?
  1. The internet cheapies have to be dunked in wee for 3 seconds - they are just thin strips of card as opposed to the fat spongey sticks that you buy in the shops.

Dont forget to use them first thing in the morning or after 4 hours of not weeing (HCG is more concentrated and you are more likely to get a good result.)

Have fun dunking!

goldmaple · 27/08/2010 00:31

Thanks for the info! I now have a bundle of internet cheapies being sent to me! I'm not even on the 2ww yet but I figured i'd stock up since I know I will be a test-addict :)

As for a wee cup... i thought you could just hold the test in the stream?? That was my plan... Guess I have a lot to learn!:o

Have OPK worked for anyone? I get a temp shift but never had a +.

MummyAbroad · 26/08/2010 18:51

love it Grin Might consider jazzing up my selection of wee catcher cups now.Grin
