My family was never bookie so, although I have enjoyed reading and discovering books since I was 12 or so, I feel I have missed out on the whole childrens literature thing, and I love how people reminisce and seem to really have taken their childhood favourites to heart.
I really want this for my DC but dont know where to start.
What do you recommend? What did you love?
(start from as young as you like, I have an almost 3yo)

TIA

For a 2-3 yr old, Billy's Beetle, the Blue Balloon and lots of others by Mick Inkpen (Kipper is his best known character, but I think less funny than his other books).

In a bit, Milly Molly Mandy, dated but perfect to read to a little girl maybe a bit older than your DD (say 4.5 plus).

If you have boys, Big Brother Little Brother by Penny Dale.
The Alfie and Annie Rose series by Shirley Hughes who also illustrated the My Naughty Little Sister books
Anything by Dr Seuss but particularly The Cat in the Hat.
I Want My Potty by Tony Ross, the illustrations are hilarious.
Come On Daisy by Joan Simmons.

We're Going on a Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen and Helen Oxenbury is fab too. DD (aged 2.4) loves it at the moment. We were on a country walk a couple of weeks ago and she started spontaneously chanting some of it - "swishy swashying" through the grass and "squelch, squerching" through the mud
