Any recommendations? Not the "Thats not my..." would rather have something rhyming and with lovely pictures.

Big books with animals in.

misselizabethbennett · 20/09/2008 21:45

As a small baby DS's first favourite book was 'Baby Faces'. It was a round book with black & white photographs of babies. Hello baby, happy baby, sad baby, quiet baby, noisy baby, bye bye baby, if I remember rightly.

It's probably blasphemy but I don't really like the Very Hungry Caterpillar and neither does my daughter. Are we weird?

treacletart · 20/09/2008 10:15

Can't believe nobody has mentioned the Very Hungry Caterpillar yet! Ok so it doesn't rhyme, but it's essential to any board book collection! Both my little ones have been obsessed by it

OooWowOooArr · 20/09/2008 10:08

I recite Goodnight Moon to myself when trying to focus on sleep. Lovely!

Great suggestions here. Rod Campbell our most ripped and loved.

thaliablogs · 20/09/2008 09:51

owl babies

All the sandra boyntons, especially 'the going to bed book', 'barnyard dance' and 'hippos go beserk' (which I now know off by heart!

seeker · 16/09/2008 00:40

Any that taste nice?

Seriously - go to a charity sop and buy everything they've got. Quantity and variety at this age - you'll soon find out what he likes.

Each peach, pear, plum
Peepo
Dear zoo

These were favourites of both my girls...and they still remember the words now (aged 6 and 3)!

Washersaurus · 01/09/2008 22:29

sorry forgot the link Buster Bedtime by Rod Campbell

Washersaurus · 01/09/2008 22:28

Busters Bedtime is a fab little board book with loads of touchy feely bits and even has a tiny little book inside for you to turn the pages for Buster. Both my boys love it.

hana · 01/09/2008 22:20

really, children at that age will love any book you sit down and read to them!

raramum · 01/09/2008 22:18

another vote for Goodnight moon, and Good night baby is well loved by my seven month old. Wibbly pig is cute too.

halogen · 01/09/2008 17:16

Goodnight Moon is LOVELY.

thehairybabysmum · 01/09/2008 13:57

Both mine absolutely love the Hungry Caterpillar....its thte holes in the pages i think, love sticking their fingers in.

MuffinMclay · 01/09/2008 13:46

Goodnight moon

Hippos go Berserk

gladbag · 01/09/2008 13:40

Each Peach Pear Plum
and
Dig Dig Digging
were both firm favourites with ds(both have lovely pictures and are rhyming stories)

I'd also recommend the Barefoot Books boardbooks (see here)

halogen · 01/09/2008 13:31

Little Fish was my daughter's favourite from very early on. Not rhyming, but it is a story and has lots of repetition plus lovely bright pictures.

Mogsmum · 01/09/2008 12:46

Peepo Baby! is great my DS still loves it and he's nearly 3! Baby Einstein do some great picture books which my DS loved at that age but they're not stories.

MrsSprat · 22/08/2008 19:41

Sandra Boynton. Barnyard Dance is fun very rhythmic and not as annoyingly transatlantic as some of her others - "hey yoooooooooo guyzzzzzzz"

MamaChris · 22/08/2008 19:37

not lovely pictures at all. but ds's favourite (6mo) is baby touch rhyme book

kingfix · 22/08/2008 19:34

Another vote for the jellycat 'my xx book' series. we had the ducklings one and it was dearly loved. Also each peach pear plum, peepo, we're going on a bear hunt, dear zoo.
