Does anyone else get a lump in their throat (and at one reading tears in their eyes) when they get to the page 'AND SHE CAME'? It gets me every time.

Owl Daddy is obviously out at the Owl Night Shift earning to keep Mummy and kids in the style of nest to which they are accustomed!

MehgaLegs · 09/07/2008 20:31

I have perfected my owl baby Bill voice over the years.

TooTicky · 09/07/2008 20:29

Oh yes, Let's Get a Pup.
And The Mousehole Cat.

OverMyDeadBody · 09/07/2008 20:25

NQC does the male owl hang around to help bring up the chicks in real life? Because if not then nothing wrong with him not being present in the book.

Anyway, I like sotries where only one parent is present, it's more realistic for DS that way. MOst books seem to favour the two kids and two paretns type of family, so it's a welcome change when no father figure is featured.

Heartrending. Totally heartrending. You are not alone.

notnowbernard · 09/07/2008 20:20

'Let's get a Pup' gets me EVERY TIME

Was reading it with tears rolling the other day. DD1 was very empathetic, bless her

NotQuiteCockney · 09/07/2008 20:20

Oh good god I hate Owl Babies. Makes me want to shout and throw things. (And where is the fecking Owl Daddy?)

I'll Love You Forever does it for me, particularly the bit where the son rocks the mum.

naswm · 09/07/2008 20:18

Owl babies is the best book ever - taught my DS1 so much about separation etc Even now when I have been stuck at work etc and late picking them up from after school club I have said something along the lines of 'I am so sorry I was later than you expected me, but you knew I'd come back, just like in the Owl babies'

Actually this is a bit of a wake up call for me thinking about it

maidamess · 09/07/2008 20:15

Any kids book with a Grandad in just tips me over the edge.

maidamess · 09/07/2008 20:15

Mole and the Baby Bird....Sob...sniff...parp

OverMyDeadBody · 09/07/2008 20:12

Nah. Guess how much I love you just doesn't do it for me really. The one-upmanship displayed by Big nutbrown hair gets on my tits.

OverMyDeadBody · 09/07/2008 20:09

You guys think Owl Babies is bad, you should try reading Little Beaver and the Echo (also by MW I believe). That will really choke you up.

harpsichordcarrier · 09/07/2008 20:09

oh and the end of Winnie the Pooh

eekamoose · 09/07/2008 20:08

I always have to whisper the last page of GUESS HOW MUCH I LOVE YOU because of choked up situation (cringe) and I'm well 'ard, me.

harpsichordcarrier · 09/07/2008 20:08

and Guess How Much I Love You
and Peepbo

The effect wears of after you've read the book for the 4587694th time, believe me.

JoanCrawford · 09/07/2008 20:05

Yes you are a wuss but so am I!

Have you read 'No Matter What?' god that chokes me EVERY time.

"Love like starlight never dies...."

OomphreyCushion · 09/07/2008 20:05

DS1 used to want this story at bedtime for about six months.
I became immune.
Eventually!

tassisssss · 09/07/2008 20:03

I cry at Dogger too.

And Little Baa

chutneymary · 09/07/2008 20:02

A difficult read at 18 weeks pg. Can barely get through it some nights. Mind you, DD1 has recently discovered the Mr Men, which is torture of a different kind.

Cammelia · 09/07/2008 20:01

And as for Quentin Blake's "Clown"
